Is joining us, everyone cheers and applause but first, there is a major food crisis that is gripping great britain. Britains telegraph says the kfcs chicken shortage forces stores to close across the u. K. And some customers are not happy. It does seem unbelievable. All the chicken farmers, surely there are enough chickens. Its a chicken place, surely they have enough chicken. We want to get down and have food and cant do that today. My reaction is angry, sad and disappointed. Trevor british kfcs are out of chicken. Finally, an International ProblemPresident Trump can understand. Hes going to be on the first plane out, like, we need to help these people middle east dont worry britishers, this is a job i was born for laughter by the way, was i the only person who thought it was weird that everyone who eats kfc in the u. K. Is a kid . And on top of that theyre so polite. Even in britain a kid throwing a tantrum in a fast food place is, like, mother, im angry, sad and disappointed. Truly, if i dont get my popcorn nuggets fort withi shall be forced to throw my body on the floor in protest. Ahhh ahhh well, thats it, then, pip pip. Cheeryo laughter now, as sad as those mini harry potters are, thats the kind of thing that kids are supposed to be sad about, that they cant get the lunch they want. Unfortunately, kids in america are dealing with much bigger problems. We already know the tragic story of the parkland, florida shooting. A 19yearold who purchased multiple weapons walked into a high school he was expelled from and shot and killed 17 students and teachers. Even though these shootings are happening more an more frequently, i refuse to get used to it and refuse to accept the idea nothing can be done. My first instinct is to talk about limiting guns, but im an idiot. I get it. You know, in my dumb mind, i keep thinking gun violence is somehow related to guns. laughter havent quite figured it out yet. But the one thing i am sure about is that a lot of people in america think that after a shooting, that is not the time to talk about guns. Yeah, apparently its way too soon. You see, there needs to be a waiting period before you can just get a gun conversation going. Its a lot more responsible. And now if you told someone that they had to solve gun violence but they couldnt talk about guns, most people would be, like, well, then, theres nothing i can do. But most people are not fox news. Because over the last few days, fox showed us that once you remove the obvious solution, you have no choice but to get creative. We need to protect kids, and that means weve got to have metal detectors, weve got to have experienced cops, i dont care if theyre retired or theyre still cops working in the schools, and weve got to be able to have perimeter controls. Trevor is she still speaking about schools . Because sounds like she wants to build a compound in the walking dead protect the kids build a perimeter around the wall i need them dead now so the idea is dont touch guns, just turn the school into a fortress. Why stop with cops and perimeter patrols . Why not post snipers on the roof . Dig a mote, fill it with guneating sharks yeah, stick the heads of other School Shooters on spikes outside the school to deter another attack laughter that seems like a crazy idea. You cant have a school with snipers and armed guards patrolling the perimeter. No, apparently we need those guns in the classroom. We should start thinking about arming teachers. A minimum of six to eight teachers and administrators trained in the use of firearms. Its an issue of not enough superior fire power to stop these killers. Trevor so now you want teachers to have guns. Like, my teacher didnt even know who was talking in class. laughter now you want to trust them to shoot the right kid . Think about it. How many times did your teacher yell at the kid next to the kid who was talking . Huh . Like, one time my teacher tried to hit one of the kids with a blackboard eraser, missed the kid and hit the kid next to him. You want to give these people guns . Its absurd. Like a Game Show Host walked into fox news and says next category, worst way to solve gun violence. Go might be fun to live in their world, if you think about it. A world free of embarrassment, no idea is too ridiculous. I have tons of those ideas. Ill give you one now. All right, look, the problem is school shootings, right . So lets just get rid of the schools. Yeah. laughter stick with me, people you cant school shoot without a School Everyone gets homeschooled, that way no one can shoot their friends because Home School Kids dont have any friends. Problem solved cheers and applause actually, that was kind of fun, yeah. All right, all right, fox news. Its your turn again. Selfdefense classes are the best thing for a kid. So its time we actually think about this rationally and go how do you improve upon this . Well you train them. Learning combat, learning handtohand combat. Trevor handtohand combat . Does this guy know what a gun is . You see, its only handtohand if both people agree to use their hands. Handtohand combat will only help you if the other person isnt armed or if their weapon of choice is a wooden board. Relax, everyone, ive trained for this very specific moment. Come here hiyah and these ideas are price less, that gives me another one. All right, i got it. laughter i got a few complaints about my homeschooling idea, so scratch that. We keep the schools and equip them with huge supermagnets, right, and then when the shooting starts, a teacher presses the button and the magnet grabs everything metallic. Yeah, well lose a few kids with braces, but thats the price of freedom laughter cheers and applause now, look, the truth is we cant blame people on fox for coming up with ridiculous ideas. Its not their job to be responsible for solve problems at all so they can just shut up and drivel. Solving problems is the job of congress, or at least i thought it was until florida senator marco rubio schooled all of us. Someones decided im going to commit this crime, theyll find a way to get the gun to do it. That doesnt mean you shouldnt have a law that makes it harder, it just means understand, to be honest, it isnt going stop this from happening. Trevor nothing inspires like a lawmaker who doesnt believe in the power of laws. Like a pastor who said, i would pray for your cancer but who knows if it works. I dont know. laughter and legislators are super restrictive when abortion and everything else. Only when it comes to guns, theyre all zen look, man, if the universe wants it to happen, its going to happen, man. Yeah, were all just flowing down the river of time. laughter so another mass shooting and were in exactly the same place dont talk about the guns and dont bother changing the laws. It feels like nothings ever going to change, except this time, there was one big difference those meddling kids. Six days after the School Massacre in parkland, florida, the nations jot are seizing the meg phone, theyre demanding changes to americas gun laws. Tuesday students meet with state lawmakers in tallahassee and from there prepare for rallies this week in parkland, florida, and across the country next month, including a march on washington. It has to be more difficult for someone whos mentally ill and disabled to acquire weapons like an ar15. We dont want to disarm america. We want to make america have to work for their weapons. A 19yearold who cant purchase an alcoholic beverage should not be able to purchase an ar15. They say tougher gun laws do not decrease gun violence. We call b. S. trevor goddam, these kids are not messing around wow yeah cheers and applause i mean, this also just goes to show how upside down everything becomes when guns are involved. Like, now, kids are acting like adults and adults are acting like children, because youve got senators, like, youre taking my favorite toys this is so unfair and the kids are, like, you cant have them if youre not responsible enough to handle them i hate you youre not even my real father i hate you laughter these kids are inspirational. Town halls, marching on congress all the while mourning the loss of their fellow schoolmates. What they lack in experience they seem to be making up for with sharp moral clarity. I know some people think theyre just kids, can they really make a difference . Think of it this way, their generation found a way to make it cool to eat tide pods. So theres nothing they cant do. Well be right back. cheers and applause everyone has a thing. That binge watch over the weekend thing. More checkingin or checking out things. That tripledouble thing doing it yourself or tagging a friend thing. More revolutions in the making thing. That play like a girl thing. That fourlegged friends thing. At t gives you more for your thing. More entertainment, internet, and unlimited plans. More for your thing. Yeah, thats our thing. This is google home mini. Its got the Google Assistant in it, so its super helpful. Watch this hey google, good morning. Google voice good morning, claire. Its 52 degrees with a chance of rain, so you might want an umbrella. Oh, thats thoughtful. Itll also read you the news, look up traffic, and tell you google voice your first meeting is at 9 00 a. M. And you know how sometimes youre in bed and you cant get out of it until you hear that one song that google voice okay, playing your get out of bed playlist. song from the lion king yeah, it can do that too. Its google home mini, and the rest of the google home family. trevor welcome back to the daily show. cheers and applause this weekend this weekend, black panther smashed box office records. cheers and applause earning hundreds of millions of dollars. Dont worry. If you havent seen the movie yet, it just means youre racist. Im kidding. Youre racist, but thats not why. laughter anyway, theres one person in the know when it comes to hollywood. Our resident movie king roy wood, jr. , everybody wakanda to you wakanda to me, wakanda, wakanda trevor wakanda, my brother. So im guessing you saw the movie . Oh, dude, saw it once, twice, six times, trevor, saw it in a black theater with black people, it was a black ass Movie Theater. cheers and applause trevor i dont understand, how did you know it was a black Movie Theater . It was above a food locker, trevor. Trevor thats a point. A black ass theater, man. Look, this movie is a phenomenon. Its like black hamilton. Trevor isnt hamilton black hamilton . Not like this, trevor. First of all, nothing where seats are 400 a ticket is the black anything. laughter i guarantee youve never seen black folks act like this for a movie. People are showing up with musical instruments, they are dressed in these beautiful outfits. Black panther yeah wakanda drum beats if you thought black people were loud this theaters before, wait till we bring out drums we dance at all the movies next stop peter rabbit stay strong, brother peter mimicking drum beats did you feel the blackness . I tell you who could feel the black naysness, white people. I saw white people on twitter, they didnt even know if they could come to the movie or note. Trevor they were, like, can white people come to black panther . Can they . Of course its not an actual black panther meeting. Everyones welcome. Bring the kids, join the fun, dress up trevor whoa, whoa, youre okay with white people dressing up as the characters from black panther . Yeah, for as long as they dress as one of the two white characters in the movie. You got a choice, a skinny dude and a muscle dude. Trevor you can choose, right . Yeah. Trevor heres the thing thats fascinating, roy, the movie is resonate ago lot with the black community. Do you think its about representation, the powerful black women we see, the visions of afroefuturism . Or, or its just a dopeass movie. Look, i dont mean to go all James Baldwin but did you see the fight scenes . The pole, pulled it out, did the wig, the flip, she was on top of the car, then the car flipped, and he flipped and trevor spoilers, spoilers. That was in the preview, man trevor i get it. But you have to admit for many black people this movie makes you feel Something Special inside. Of course. Wakanda touched me because its nice to have a black movie thats not about slavery, singing or slinging dope. Its just a fun fantasy film, and black fainty is not even that outlandish. For black people, a good fantasy is just us chilling in africa having a good time. Thats all we need and a couple of fine cars would be nice to do the flippy thing. Wakanda wakanda to you trevor wakanda, everybody wakanda to me, wakanda cheers and applause let me tell you a story about a beer. Rooted in the heart of america. Raised by generations willing to sip, share, risk, remember. This is a story bigger than beer. This is the story of beer country. [i feel you by depeche mode playing] of beer country. You understand i want whats best for you . Im gonna check it over here. In here. Now starting at 199 a small town in the heart of tennessee. Where families and neighbors Work Together to make every drop of our whiskey. If you cant get here, just look for one of our postcards. We send them all over. They look like this. cheers and applause trevor welcome back to the daily show. My guest tonight portrays Branch Davidian leader david koresh in paramount networks sixpart series called waco. Gary . No, its walter. Garys been reassigned. Reassigned . Why . David, i need to tell you that my bosses have run out of patience with you. Every day we try and show you men good faith, but all you want to do is fight. Im tired i dont want to fight no more im alive everyone in here is alive. Weve got children, were american citizens, and youre doing wrong by god and by man and every day youre adding to your wrong. David, youre the one whos doing wrong. No, no, no, no trevor please welcome Taylor Kitsch cheers and applause welcome. First and foremost, happy birthday cheers and applause trevor oh, man i had to. Trevor thank you very much. Happy birthday to you, too. laughter welcome to the show. Thanks for having me. Trevor im a huge fan of yours, have been for a long time, but ive never seen you in a role like this. For people who dont know, what was the waco siege about . An event in 1993 that was a cult, a Branch Davidian religious group in waco. Texas, that basically ended up in a 51day standoff with the atf and f. B. I. And ended with it burning to the ground and 76 people dying in that building. Trevor its a tragic story, and its laid out in this mini series in six parts, and its one of the most confusing stories on an emotional level, because you play koresh, all right. You play david koresh, the leader of what some people call a cult and other people say, no, no, it was a religious organization. Right. Youre playing a complicated character and youre making us like him. How do you think you achieve that . My first mistake in prepping for him was in the first few weeks where i was judging. Obviously, theres some reprehensible stuff hes done or did, and once i stopped judging that and trying to understand why he did what he did or led the way he led and studied the way he studied, because through prep youre listening to hundreds of hours of calls with child protective services, with gary, the lead f. B. I. Negotiate, and his crutch was the bible, it was the unknown, and he could lay fear into that. And when you cant prove or disprove that, he has something to stand on. Trevor right. Thats how brilliant he was with that. He was an incredible manipulator. He really gave purpose to the davidians, and he was a selfproclaimed messenger of god. You know, so with that comes ego. Trevor right. And you start to see you see in that clip by the way, thats the first time i saw the clip. Trevor wow. Yeah, id never seen it, so its interesting to see that. Trevor youre like that all the time. Yeah, thats me in the morning,. Trevor your character is so intense. Heres whats interesting, david koresh is a character who is a great manipulator and a lot of people dont realize, to be a great manipulator, you have to be charming, you have to be charismatic, you have to be what many people would consider a nice guy doing really, really obscene and horrible things, but the people within his parish, many people would see as normal apart from the beliefs they have. Right, and i think that goes with the purpose and i think, in that sense, he could give that purpose. It really does go down to, like, he would tell you when to eat, when theyre going to have some sermons. Some of the sermons would be an hour to 36 hours. Trevor wow. So, in the sense of testing these people, like, they would fall asleep, wake up, and still be in the sermon. Trevor wow. And hes just and when youre there in the compound, hes created this system of control, and this is a guy that comes from abuse and zero control. Trevor right. Left at 14, memorized the bible by 17. So he has that over anybody on the planet. Trevor when you look at the parallels between where america is now and where Many Americans were back when the waco siege happened, i found it interesting that many people were in place of distrusting both the media and the f. B. I. Do you see how its easy for people to begin to believe a narrative where they go i dont believe anything thats happening around me other than what i know . Without a doubt and i think, in 93, thats what it kind of encompassed in the sense that the f. B. I. Was the media, so they did block off the press. Theres a threemile perimeter around the compound. Trevor wow. So from, obviously, the press to also even when it was burning down they didnt even allow the Fire Department to come stop the fire. So youre dealing with, on both sides, somebody thats answering to god and then youre dealing with the a. T. F. Whos answering to somebody who has an ulterior motive to the f. B. I. Thats the amalgamation between all the its a perfect storm. When the government knocks on your door with a 51day gun fight, theres no trust there. So i understand why they didnt come out in that sense, but during the siege with the children, i think thats something ill always have questions about et. Trevor its questions that you have, we have, but the show does a great job of posing those questions and creating a great story. Youre amazing. Thank you. Trevor thanks so much for being on the show. Thanks for having me. Trevor waco airs wednesdays 10 00 p. M. On paramount network. Taylor kitsch, everybody well be right back cheers and applause bring home the taste sensation.
