the world. i'm kasie hunt. it is december 7, 5:00 a.m. in washington, 4:00 a.m. in tuscaloosa, the site of the final gop debate last night ahead of iowa. and more importantly, the first primary contest, the caucuses of the 2024 race, will take place less than six weeks from now. what we saw last night was chris christie, nikki haley, ron desantis, vivek ramaswamy fighting to become the gop's top alternative, the number two, to the far and away frontrunner donald trump. >> i have delivered results. that is what we need for this country. >> we passed pro-life bills, we moved unemployment 11% to 3%. >> i think that i can reach the next generation. >> took a good 20 minutes before any one of the four said the obvious out loud. >> the fifth guy who doesn't have the guts to show up and stand here, he is the one who as you put it is way ahead in the polls. yet these three guys are all seemingly to compete with cold more, he who shall not be named. >> the name of course donald trump. without him on stage, nikki haley had a target on her back. >> you have a corruption problem. and i think that that is what people need to know. nikki haley is correct. >> her wall street liberal donors make money in china. they will not let her be tough on china. >> i love all the attention, fellas, thank you for that. >> with little to lose, chris christie put the focus back on trump and would not let up. >> is he fit to be president or isn't he? governor desantis, you're a smart man. you are not answering. is he fit? no. is he fit or isn't he? >> you have your thing -- >> i don't have my thing. you are talking about him being 80 years old. is he fit -- [ everybody talking at once ] >> wow. let's bring in our panel. former senior adviser to tim scott's presidential campaign, matt gorman, former white house deputy secretary sarah matthews and from bloomberg christian hall. good morning to all of you. i want to start with broad takeaways here. matt, i'll start with you. all eyes were on nikki haley and she handled this debate a little differently than she has in the past. is this something that will help her continue the momentum we've seen or were there moments that are not going to work in her favor? >> it was a little different for her than it was in the past. i was curious whether she'd be a little dismissive of the attacks that came her way or whether like the previous three receives able to strike back a little bit harder. she didn't really strike back as hard as she did the first three. i thought ron desantis actually got better as the debate went on. he landed some points on the exchange with her whether china or transgenderism. he is somebody who actually has gotten better in a relative sense over these last four debates. he stood out for me over the course of the night as someone who actually overperformed. >> interesting. i want to show everyone, you mentioned how people were going after nikki haley. as i watched some of these moments, it did seem to me that she kind of stepped back from the way she had taken on some of the attacks head-on in the previous debates, but she got some backup from chris christie, the new jersey governor, who honestly was back to form in this debate it seemed to me. but take a look at how christie defended nikki haley and sarah i'll ask you about it on the other side. >> we're now 125 minutes into this debate and he has insulted nikki haley's basic intelligence. not her positions. her basic intelligence. she doesn't know regions, she wouldn't be able to find something on a map that her 3-year-old could find. if you want to disagree on issue, fine. but i've known her for 12 years which is longer than he even started to vote in a republican primary, and while we disagree with some issues and we disagree with who should be president of the united states, what we don't disagree on is this is a smart accomplished woman and you should stop insulting her. >> pretty remarkable, sarah. >> yeah, i thought chris christie did a better job defending nikki haley's campaign and candidacy than he did his own honestly last night on stage. and i think that that speaks volumes. and i do think that maybe if i'm reading the tea leaves here if chris christie does end up dropping out, i know he said time and time again that he won't drop out before new hampshire, but if he does, or even if he drops out sometime after that, then i think that we could see potentially a nikki haley endorsement coming from him because he definitely had high praise for her. and she was definitely taking all the arrows last night and i thought that she performed well amongst all that pressure. and i do agree with matt though, it did seem like there was a change in strategy and i wonder if that was a decision by her team to just not punch down. because she obviously has the momentum on her side and has had the rise in the polls. and so it felt like she just chose to rise above it all and i thought she looked like the adult in the room. >> basically trying to say hey, thanks for paying so much attention and at one point she said you know what, no, i don't want to respond. there is no -- why should i give them the time of day basically. christian, i want to turn back to donald trump who obviously was not on the stage. and show a little bit more of this exchange where chris christie really pushed ron desantis on this question of whether or not donald trump was fit for office. take a look. >> is he fit or isn't he? >> you have your thing -- >> no, he is the thing. you are talking about him being 80 years old. is he fit? [ everybody talking at once ] >> let him -- >> he won't answer. >> he is almost 80 years old. >> he's afraid to answer. >> christian, i mean, christie is not wrong here. donald trump is in fact looming over this field despite his absence. what were your takeaways from this? >> absolutely. i mean, a really big part of chris christie's campaign was really focused on, you know, taking down donald trump. in big part through the debates. if you were christie, i'd be a little bit nervous though about how he is going to make it on the next debate stage or even how he is going to continue in the race. but i will say that the biggest obstacle for nikki haley in new hampshire is chris christie. so i thought it was really intriguing how he went into this defense of nikki haley on the debate stage last night. i think it was a little bit of a peek into what could happen if he does decide to step aside. >> yeah, no, i think that it is the question. i think that you put your finger right on it. and it was interesting to me that christie has been out there attacking -- trying some attack lines on nikki haley in television interview, but we didn't really see that on the debate stage. gary tuchman has been spending time during these debates hanging out with iowa voters which kind of gives us a bit of an interesting window into how this is being received. not by those of us here who work and breathe this all the time, but by the likely caucusgoers that will make some of the decisions here. take a look at a little bit of what gary learned from voters last night as this was unfolding. watch. >> who thinks christie won the debate? zero of the eight. who thinks desantis won the debate? one of the eight. who thinks haley won the debate? one, two, three, four, five, six. who thinks ramaswamy won the debate? zero. >> pretty telling there. not a single hand goes up when he asked if christie won the debate and many when asked about whether nikki haley did. that really does seem to me to be the dynamic right now in this race. and raises further questions about what chris christie does in the context of new hampshire. >> sure. and i guess my question would be he is at 11%. he is not at 2% or 3%. at the end my boss senator scott was. and so really if you are him, there is no real reason to get out yet. as long as you are polling at that level, polling above desantis in new hampshire, i think one of the things that caught my eye, and i didn't watch the whole segment with gary, was whether votes were changed. i think in large part to have a game changing moment. what i mean by that, a moment that actually changes the polls in large part. not just 4% to 7%. i think what hamstrung a lot of the debates, without trump on the stage, you can't have a moment like christie kneecapping marco rubio or elizabeth warren going after michael bloomberg in 2020 on his settlements. so i think what you need do, to make real lasting polling changes, you need everybody there. without that, you have these small incremental increases only. >> a very good point and of course again no trump -- without trump, how we won't leare can't learn whether or not things can actually fundamentally change here, which of course his team knows. we'll have more with this panel later. i'm grateful for all of you being up early with us this morning. this up next, police in las vegas identify the suspect in a deadly shooting at unlv, what makes this gunman different. plus secretary of state antony blinken offering praise and criticism on the israel-hamas war and what is next for kevin mccarthy. just week after losing his speaker's gavel, he is out. welcome back. secretary of state antony blinken offering new perspective on the israel-hamas war. speaking on the king charles program last night, blinken praised israel for taking what he called important steps to better protect civilians in southern gaza. at the same time he says more needs to be done describing the death toll as gut wrenching. clare sebastian is live with more. what does blinken say he wants to see? >> reporter: yeah, we've heard this from him before, but he said we can't have a repeat of what happened in the north in the south. this is something that he's said on a recent visit to israel. he said that there were positive signs from israel in the latest stage, that they are designating safe area, that they have this new system that he alluded to where you can look at a qr code and it shows you which neighborhoods that you need to evacuate from and where to. but he said more needs to be done, they need safe corridors for people to move to the safe areas, once they get there, there needs to be enough food and water and medicine. so i don't think that he has a conclusion yet on whether things are different now in the south. certainly that is what we heard from the state department spokesperson on wednesday saying that it is still early days. they wouldn't say whether or not things are actually different in how israel is conducting the war at the moment. and of course something to bear in mind in terms of protecting civilians, it just got harder now that they have moved to the south because this is where so many of the civilians from the north have already evacuated to, kasie. >> clare sebastian, thank you very much for that report. up next, the u.s. military just grounded an entire fleet of aircraft after a deadly crash. we'll tell you why. and more of nikki haley catctching heat t at last ninig rerepublican d debate. quick hits across america. police have identified a 67-year-old college professor as the suspected gunman behind the deadly shooting at the university nevada las vegas. three people were killed and a fourth person was injured. no word yet on a motive. pentagon is grabbing its entire fleet of osprey aircraft following the deadly crash in japan which claimed the lives of eight air force members. preliminary investigation found technical problems with the aircraft. a nevada grand jury has indicted six people for allegedly acting as fake quleek tors working to overturn joe biden's election win in 2020. the state's attorney general saying we can't allow attacks on democracy go unchallenged. all right. time now for weather. the powerful storm drenching the pacific northeast is pushing east bringing the threat of severe weather and even tornados to the southern plains. let's get straight to our weatherman derek van dam. good morning, always great to have you. what should people be looking out for today? >> i think residents across the pacific northwest are going to be happy to say finally good-bye to this atmospheric river that brought the flooding and deluge of rain and snow recently. but no one across the deep south wants to have the sloppy seconds. this storm will bring that energy to the gulf coast states and produce the severe weather threat that you mentioned. first on friday, this is more of a hail threat across arkansas, northeast texas, southwestern portions of oklahoma. and check this out, i want you to see how the threat increases for the day saturday. so we're trying to give you a head's up because we are looking for the potential at least for some severe thunderstorms that could become a bit cyclonic, meaning that they could have some twists in the atmosphere, maybe a tornado or two popping up, but that is for the day saturday. again the hail threat on friday. this is the storm system that has brought havoc across the northwest, it is coming to an end, but cooler weather behind it is allowing for the changeover from rain to snow. so a few inches of snow across the spine of the rockies. but notice how that transfer of energy moves across the eastern half of the country. picks up a bit of gulf moisture and then we start to see the thunderstorms fire up because we get the collision of air masses. and then along the east coast, this weekend, saturday into sunday, this will be a major rainmaker and potential windmaker for many of the east coast cities. so if you are traveling out of d.c., new york or boston, you could have travel plans interrupted this weekend. snow will stay north of i-95, but overall, a wet weekend. i do believe thursday and friday. so today and tomorrow will be dry, but saturday and sunday, that is a different story for the east coast. you can see the high parked across the southeast, that is bringing the pleasant conditions to atlanta and charlotte, but it is that storm system across the northwest that will change the southwest forecast going forward. here is a quick look at the temperatures. kasie for you once again 48 and beautiful in the nation's capital. >> lovely, but looks like i'll have to exhaust my children inside this weekend. derek, thank you very much. up next here, four republican presidential todays facing off to become the party's second choice after former president trump. we'll have a look at the debate's most memorable moments. and former house speaker kevin mccarthy says he is resigning from congress. how he says he wants to serve america in new ways, ahead. good morning, thanks for being up early with us. i'm kasie hunt. with the iowa caucuses less than six weeks away, four candidates went after each other on a heated and sometimes insulting debate stage. they sparred over a number of issues trying to set themselves apart to become the number two to frontrunner donald trump. trump of course skipped all four debates including this one. and his absence loomed large. >> the fifth guy, who doesn't have the guts to show up and stand here, he is the one who as you just put it is way ahead in the polls. and yet i've got these three guys who are all seemingly to compete with voldemort, he who shall not be named. >> nikki haley who has gained momentum in recent months became a target for ramaswamy and desantis. >> her donors, these wall street liberal donors, they make money in china. they are not going to let her be tough on china and she will cave to the donors. >> i don't have a woman problem. you have a corruption problem. and i think that that is what people need to know. n nikki is corrupt. >> governor haley, would you like to respond? >> no, it is not worstth my tim to respond to him. >> and chris christie saying his rivals are afraid to take on trump. >> i think that we have an opportunity to have somebody who we don't have to worry about. >> he won't answer. >> he's almost 80 years old. >> he is afraid to answer. >> no, i'm not. >> either you are afraid or you are not listening. >> no, it is not. >> a simple question. is he fit? [ everybody talking at once ] >> let's talk more about this. thanks for being here. christie fiery there. he also pointed out the multiple felony indictments against trump. this is really the big question looming over this field. he has skipped all of these debates. do you think that what we saw play out on that stage last night moved the needle at all? >> it is hard to say. i think that what we saw on stage is that nikki haley was cemented as the ascendant candidate for a constant second place. christie is really the only one to say you should vote for me instead of voting for trump. from haley and desantis, we hear sort of the measured criticisms and then you have someone like vivek ramaswamy saying january 6 was an inside job. so there is not really this concerted effort among all the candidates to try to draw that contrast and now we're just a few weeks away from iowa and the time period to sort of make that distinction has probably already passed. but they are clearly not taking advantage of it on the debate stage. >> arit, what did you take away from christie? he aggressively defended nickki haley against attacks in particular from vivek ramaswamy. i think that that leads to speculation that he might be willing to get out of the race and back nikki haley even though he's said that is not the plan. >> yeah, he could be looking to sort of say like, you know, haley -- of the people on stage, haley might be the person that he is the most sympathetic to or the one that he could stomach seeing advance further. i think the other thing too, vivek ramaswamy has really come across as very annoying to a lot of the candidates and to a lot of republicans. and so going against vivek ramaswamy and saying like hey, what you are saying is unfair, like you are attacking someone's character, going after him probably makes christie look good too. >> i appreciate your directness. sometimes it can be difficult to talk about that and there is a lot of that sentiment certainly in the private conversations i'm having about people and how they feel that -- they don't enjoy vivek's presence on the stage. but it can be hard to stay. arit john, thank you for your time this morning. and sarah, matt and christian are back with me to talk a little bit more about this. i want to keep the conversation all on the big picture here beyond the debate stage itself. yes, this was the last debate before the iowa caucus and the new hampshire primary in january. and again, i just want to repeat, this is still a race for number two to try to take on joe biden. and i want to bring kind of back to the big picture that we have been talking about with the recent comments that donald trump made about being a dictator on day one. republicans have said that his defenders have said that he was joking there. president biden actually responded to some of this yesterday at a fundraiser. he did not speak on camera about it. but he basically said again that -- if we could put it up on the screen -- he says god bless me, what do you think that means when it comes to upholding federal truss t and treaty obligations. he was at a tribal event. and he says something else is at stake, future of american democracy, not a joke. and then matt, we heard on stage from chris christie about this. i want to show everyone what chris christie had to say. >> he's made it very clear there is no mystery to what he wants to do. he started off his campaign by saying i am your retribution. eight years ago, he said i'm your voice. this is an angry bitter man who now wants to be back as president because he wants to exact retribution. >> and let me put this question to sarah first and matt you can weigh in as well. sarah, you worked for donald trump and have since been outspoken in talking about the danger that you view that he poses. how cdo you view what chris christie said and how this is playing out broadly? >> i thought that was probably chris christie's strongest moment actually. and it highlights something that i've been vocal about too, which is that the donald trump of today is very different than the donald trump of the 2016 campaign. back then, he was running on a vision to make america great again. and was a voice for those who felt left behind by this country. and today that is not the message at all that we're seeing from him. he literally is campaigning on saying stuff like i am your retribution. and he has talked about proposing things such as weaponizing the doj to enanlgts react revenge on his political enemies and doing away with parts of the constitution. when people say we're worried about the democracy, it sounds ala alarmist. but there have been these dire warnings ever since 2015. but the thing is that we need to be paying attention to his words and what he is actually saying. and so i don't think that it is necessarily a joke when he says i'm going to be a dictator on day one. and he was actually given multiple opportunities during that interview with sean hannity to say that he wouldn't break the law or that he wouldn't, you know, abuse his power. and he side stepped the question and tried to play it off as a joke. but i think that that is very telling that he wouldn't just outright say no. >> and matt gorman, there is reporting out there about how trump's advisers view this dictator question, that even before that sean hannity interview, they were urging allies on capitol hill to basically push back against this idea. and i think to sarah's point, you could see sean hannity in that interview trying to get him to say, no, i will not be a dictator. the reasoning for the campaign to be concerned about it, the general election because there does seem to be? concern among people who work for trump that this line of conversation is problematic for the general election. how do you -- how do you view that in this context? i know you and i talked yesterday, he is clearly making a play to the base of the republican party, and mitt romney out there saying yeah, his base is fine with these authoritarian tendencies, but there is this potential tension between the primary voters and general election ones. >> yeah, i think a couple things can be true at once. and it could be a very trumpian clumsy way intentionally or not of talking about what you want to do executive power-wise on the border and energy. but you are right, this does reinforce a concern republicans have where he said if you want to make this campaign about revenge, or as chris christie said retribution, this will hurt you. especially when you have a president like joe biden with approval rate maning in the 30s have an opportunity to talk about the voters. so making it about yourself hurts you to win a general election. so those two things can be true and i think that is what christie was trying to point out there. >> and speaking of president biden's approval rating, christian, we can put up on the screen a graph that is relatively stark. and this was the most recent cnn poll, that 37% that you can see there now, this goes back to march 2021, right after he was sworn in, he was above 50%. took that really significant dip with the afghanistan withdrawal. but this is the lowest we've had him in this job approval survey. if you are the biden white house, the biden campaign, how are you viewing what played out on stage last night? i know that they seem to think that the fight against trump would be an easier one. but we also know that the hillary clinton campaign made that mistake back in 2016. >> yeah, i mean, i'd be really concerned. i know that former president trump has said that he is excited to run against joe biden and joe biden believes that he is the one to take on trump. but just looking at the debate last night, even if it is not donald trump being the nominee, nikki haley as an example i think at one point she said that i'm the one who can defeat president biden. she was really strong in the debate. i think that again she showed viewers that she is a very strong dedebater. she was clear on the issues. she was very -- she does a very good job of being able to get some zingers in. and so i'd be concerned if you were president biden just being able to see president biden on stage next to any of the other candidates last night, taking into consideration the job approval rates, i'd be very concerned. >> so speaking of nikki haley, i'm glad you zyou raised that be this is the overarching theme. can anyone break out enough to actually take on trump for the republican nomination. we can show you just a little bit of how haley pushed back at the various attacks. you can see she was the target of the attacks and we'll show you how she responded. watch. >> only person more fascist than the biden regime now is nikki haley. >> i love all the attention, fellas, thank you. >> her donor, these wall street liberal dough noors make money in china. they are not going to let her be tough on china and she will cave to the donors. she will not stand up for you. >> 15 seconds. >> first of all, he is mad because those wall street donors used to support him and now they support me. >> i don't have a woman problem. you have a corruption problem. and i think that that is what people need to know. nikki is corrupt. >> would you like to respond? >> no. it is not worth my time to respond to him. >> sarah matthews, what did you make of how haley handled all of this and how do you think her performance affects what had been a pretty upward rising trajectory and fumomentum in polling? >> i think that definitely her strategy was to try to not be as contentious maybe as she had been in the previous debates. she obviously saw in those debates that she had kind of sparring moments with vivek particularly. but i think in this debate she chose to try to rise above it and look like the adult in the room. and i will say it was a strong debate performance from her. do i think it was her strongest that she's had? no. i think that desantis and chris christie probably had their strongest debate performances to date. but i think that she still looked like that she was the person who is rising in the polls and the others looked like their campaigns were flailing and that is why they were attacking her so aggressively. >> matt gorman, quick last word. >> a quick note, one argument we didn't hear against trump was on electability. i think with the recent polls showing him beating joe biden, other folks had to resorter to things whether it was moral grounds on christie, drama on nikki and more conservative on desantis. >> interesting note. grateful to have you all here on this early morning. thank you very much. up next here, former house speaker kevin mccarthy resigning from congress. what it means for house republicans' slim majority, up next. the power goes out and we still have wifi to do our homework. and that's a good thing? great in my book! who are you? no power? no problem. introducing storm-ready wifi. now you can stay reliably connected through power outages with unlimited cellular data and up to 4 hours of battery back-up to keep you online. only from xfinity. home of the xfinity 10g network. kevin mccarthy calling it quits. the california congressman announced yesterday he will not seek re-election in 2024. in fact he is leaving congress at the end of the year just months after being ousted as house speaker in a dramatic wa battle with his conference's right wing. >> when the stakes were the highest, we rose to the challenge. we were willing to risk it all no matter the odds, no matter the personal cost. simply put, we did the right thing. but now it is time to pursue my passion in a new arena. while i'll be departing the house at the end of this year, i will never ever give up fighting for this country that i love so much. >> mccarthy announced his decision in a "wall street journal" op-ed. he did not mention his historic ouster. he touted the party's accomplishments. and let's bring in mychael schnell from "the hill." i think all of us who have known and covered kevin mccarthy smiled, nodded, maybe were minorly amused by his own description of persistently cheerful, that is what he said in his "wall street journal" op-ed. i have to be honest, i was not surprised to see that he was leaving. were you? >> no, and look, this has been the stunning rise and stunning fall of kevin mccarthy this year. but look, his time with the gavel and his time in the house had been difficult all year long. it started with the protracted speaker's race in generjanuary after that, it was legislative battle after legislative battle. him getting pushed to the right at times, squeezed by those conservatives. and of course it came down to his decision to put a clean continuing resolution on the floor to avert a government shutdown. and that was the last straw for eight led by matt gaetz bringing the motion to vacate and deposing mcscar acarthy from hi position. so after that speculation swirled would you stay in the game, would he stay out, would he run for re-election, finish his term. he openly said this was a tough decision and it would be a gut decision. at the end of the day, he decided to tap out early. i don't think that anybody is too surprised just considering that he had been at the top of the house, top of the gop conference. he didn't really have a police -- place in the conference afterwards. >> and very unusual to have a former speaker remain. the fact nancy pelosi has stayed as basically rank and file member i think a lot of people were surprised that she does that. but pelosi obviously handles things a little differently. but let's talk about the majority in the republican house now. because this honestly, mccarthy leaving makes mike johnson's new job all the more difficult. clearly mccarthy doesn't care. but explain why and how much harder -- it will be that much harder -- marjorie taylor greene put it in stark terms. >> yeah, this majority is slimming and slimming and slimming. now with kevin mccarthy leaving, house republicans essentially can still only afford to lose three votes on any partisan vote. but they lose that cushion. so this narrows the house majority which at the start of the congress was slim. i don't think that anybody could get this slim. and you mentioned marjorie taylor greene, of course very close ally of kevin mccarthy, has spoken out against the eight republicans who forced this vote to oust mccarthy and has since been critical of speaker johnson. she bluntly said yesterday i hope nobody dies because if anybody dies in the republican conference, that slims their majority even more and brings them in very close territory of losing the majority. so in any way that you look at this, kevin mccarthy's leaving capitol hill at the end of the year is significant for house republicans. you bring this back to speaker johnson. we are heading in to a very high stakes period of legislating appropriations, there are two government funding deadlines next year. leaders still want to pass funding for ukraine and funding for israel. there is that vote on opening an impeachment inquiry into president biden, expected next week. but if it gets punted until next year after the recess, these are all going to be heavy lifts on any day. now having an even smaller majority, it gets that much hard i. >> it does indeed. mychael schnell, thank you very much for being here. just ahead, lebron james speaking out about guns in america after the shooting at unlv. welcome back. in the wake of yesterday's mass shooting at unlv, lebron james says it is ridiculous that there have been no changes to gun laws. andy scholes has the bleacher report. good morning. >> good morning. lakers are in las vegas preparing for the in-season tournament semifinals later tonight. and lebron said it is really sad that we have to keep having the same conversations without any change. >> the ability to get a gun, ability to, you know, do these things over and over and over and there has been no change, it is literally ridiculous. makes no sense that we continue to lose innocent lives on campuses, on schools, at shopping markets. it is ridiculous. it is ridiculous. and the fact that we haven't changed anything, it is stupid. >> lebron and lakers will take on the pelicans in las vegas later today. here is the colorful court for the semifinals. correspond to espn, the nba told the lakers they couldn't wear their black jerseys because of contrast problems with the court. not sure the gold jerseys will look much better, but we'll wait and see. the other match-up, bucks taking on the pacers. and before this all started, there were questions how serious the players were going to take the in-season tournament, but they have been all-in. >> we play in the best league in the world with a bunch of the greatest competitors in the world. so i mean, i don't know if people really care what the prize is to be honest with you. you just want to win because you want to say you did and others didn't. >> the opportunity to be the last man standing. the prize at the end is something that could have an impact on a lot of people involved. and we got an opportunity at it. so high stakes, something to be had. >> yeah, high stakes is right. each play he gets $500,000 if they win. pacers and bucks going to get things started 59at 5:00 easter. and special version getting started at 7:30 and winners will face off in the nba cup saturday night. doluka doncic became the fit player to record a 25 point triple double in the first half. the mavericks star posted 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the blowout over the jazz. he finished with 40 points in three quarters. and we have the first blockbuster trade out of baseball's winter meetings. yankees acquiring juan soto from the padres in a seven player deal. the three time all-star played just two seasons in san diego after being acquired from the nationals. soto still only 25 years old. he will be a free agent after this upcoming season. and finally, panthers tight end in the concussion protocol but his father says that he is dealing with a much more serious issue. he posted his son has been diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia after suffering a concussion during the panthers loss to the bears four weeks ago. and he added slow recovery, don't know when he will be back. prayers appreciated. a team spokesperson told cnn t that hayden hurst returned in a limited capacity. post amnesia is forgetting something that happened before and after. so scary situation there. >> very scary indeed. here is hoping that he can recover there. briefly, juan soto, i miss him here in washington. what do you make of this? >> well, the yankees offense was dreadful last season, so you knew they would do something. they got trent grisham in that deal as well. and so yankees might be looking more like the yankees next season unfortunately for your orioles. >> i was going to say, let's go os. thanks to everyone for joining us.
