that includes sheltering able-bodied combatants, also to store munitions or as a shield for military action and again, israel moments ago said they've uncovered concrete evidence of a hamas terror presence inside that hospital compound and we are waiting to see what evidence that is and there let's go to cnn's ed lavandera who is in tel aviv. ed? >> hi, john. as you mentioned, the importance of what is unfolding there at the al shifa hospital inside of gaza is crucial, not just from a military perspective, but also from a public relations and credibility standpoint as israel is engaged in this military offensive inside there of gaza and what is found there will ultimately go a long way in determining how people feel about how exactly all of this has unfolded there inside of gaza. as you mentioned, israeli defense forces saying they have found concrete evidence of hamas military fighters using that area around and underneath specifically the hospital grounds and that is the massive area that you're talking about around there during the heart of gaza city and we know that these military officials say they will release this information later today. military offensive inside of the hospital started early this morning so it's been going on for more than 13, 14 hours at this point here in israel and in gaza. a lot of attention being focused on this. we had heard from a palestinian journalist inside the hospital who described israeli soldiers that entered the hospital and were engaged in fire fights and an israeli defense force spokesperson denies that claim. >> there was fire exchange before we went into the hospital. we engaged with enemy before we entered and since we were in the hospital there was no engagement whatsoever inside the hospital at this moment with the patients or anyone else. >> john, and of course, at this moment, a great deal of concern about the hostages that remain in gaza. so far israeli military officials say they have not found any evidence or any signs of hostages there. if they do have that information they have not shared it yet and the headline is we are awaiting more information on what the israeli military is saying concrete evidence of the structure and organizations inside and underneath this prominent hospital in gaza. >> you talk about the public facing nature of this. israel has talked about this hospital for years as being a shield for terrorist operations and since october 7th they've made clear this is one of their goals in their invasion of gaza and even overed last 24 hours they've been very public with what they have been doing there. this doesn't appear to be something that israel is trying to conceal from the eyes of the world, albeit, we don't have cameras on the ground or reporters there at this time. >> that's true. israel is clearly aware of the public sentiment around the world that is critical of the way the israeli military has operated inside of gaza, but israeli military and government officials here have been steadfast in that they are here to dismantle the hamas military operations. they say and have said for quite some time that they believe this organization uses the areas underneath these hospitals to protect themselves, to use civilians as shields from protecting themselves from military strikes. they are described as a very cynical operation by hamas to operate this way and clearly, the world and those who have been very critical especially in the operations here around the al shifa hospital, jordan, for example, said it was appalled by the actions that the israeli military was engaging in the areas around that hospital. so there's been a great deal of criticism about it. israel very aware of that criticism around the world, as well. >> ed lavandera in tel aviv, keep us posted. kate? egypt's minister of health now says that they are trying to coordinate the transfer of neonatal babies from al shifa hospital. upon evacuating the hospital, tells al jazeera there is no place to move 40 incubators outside the hospital and that these babies are in severe danger. israel put out this morning, john was talking about it that it says shows the idf delivering medical supplies today. cnn can't independently verify this as we are not on the ground and haven't been able to reach the hospital for confirmation. let's go over to cnn's nada bashir in jerusalem. nada, the hospital is now under israeli control. what are you hearing about the conditions at the hospital? >> well, look, kate, there is a huge amount of concern for the safety and security of patient, of medical staff and of other civilians who have taken to the al shifa hospital in search of shelter. as you know, there have been fears about the hospital complex as well as the ground fighting which has impacted the hospital buildings directly over the last few days and of course, a huge amount of concern over this raid which took place in the early hours of the morning. as we know, the idf is targeting hamas infrastructure and says it has gathered evidence of a hamas command center beneath the al shifa hospital and again, this has been denied by hamas. the military presence has been denied and rejected by doctors on the ground inside al shifa and these doctors are now working under the most challenging, most difficult circumstances not only with the ongoing bombardment and want only with this raid which many feared and also because of the deteriorating humanitarian situation. we heard in the early hours of the morning from a doctor who was inside in al shifa as this raid was ongoing. take a listen to what he had to say. >> we can't look out the windows and doors and know what's happening. [ indiscernible ] again, it's a totally scary situation. >> what are those sounds, doctor? i'm hearing sounds? >> it's continuous shooting from the tanks. >> as we know, the israeli military has allowed for safe evacuations from the hospital, but what we are hearing from health officials on the ground is that it isn't safe enough to evacuate patients and civilians as well as medical staff and for many of these patients including those in the neonatal unit, they require a special medical evacuation and the circumstances around the hospital right now simply do not allow for that. kate? >> nada, thank you so much. sara? >> let's discuss this now with democratic congressman jared moskowitz of florida on the house foreign affairs committee. you just returned from israel with a bipartisan group to talk with netanyahu, to talk with some of those whose loved ones had been kidnapped and are hostages in gaza. let me first talk to you about what's happening at the hospital because we have new information. the troops are now in -- israeli troops are now in gaza's largest hospital and hospital complex saying hamas has been using it as a command center which hamas is still denying and the idf has concrete evidence of that, but today the specifics were a bit fuzzy when one of the members of the israeli military spoke with our morning show, cnn this morning and just listen to what the military spokesman told us this morning. >> we find certain things and that's all i can say at this stage. we understand there's a substantial hamas infrastructure in the area in the vicinity of the hospital, potentially under the hospital and what we're working on will take us time. this war is a complex war and we are taking very, very cautious actions in a very specific area inside the hospital. >> potentially the tunnels under the hospital and israel have said that they exist somewhere in the complex. we also heard from another spokesperson said they went in because of hostages and others say no, that's not why they went in. are you concerned about the differing stories and they're in the middle of an operation which gets complicated and do you have any concern about the stories from the idf? >> u.s. intelligence has also confirmed that they believe there is a hamas infrastructure below that hospital. so it's not just the israelis. with that said, look, i'm deeply worried worried about civilians in the hospital that hamas won't let leave and i'm worried about these unborn babies needing the medical tools, incubators and things that they need and the israeli government is trying to get them out of that hospital, but we've got to stop listening to hamas? why are we listening to hamas propaganda? >> this wasn't hamas. this was the differing from the idf military. >> we mentioned that hamas denies that they have an infrastructure below the hospital. why are we listening to them? our infrastructure is below the hospital? i mean, the israelis wouldn't be there, and there wouldn't be all of this focus on the hospital if they didn't have evidence that they're being looking for, if they didn't have access to tunnels, if they didn't have the technology to see below. they are there for a reason and that's why there is a continued focus on the hospital. this idea that israel is picking on a hospital trying to hurt people is the hamas propaganda that they want. hamas could have let those people leave weeks ago, right? they could have let them leave and they held them at gun point because what hamas wants is hamas wants to use the palestinians, the innocent palestinians as propaganda. they want them to die and then they want to put those images all over television. israel doesn't need to just protect israel from hamas. israel needs to protect the innocent palestinians from hamas, right? the only way we're going to get peace in this region and get to this two-state solution is to get the innocent palestinian people away from hamas. >> you talked about that and hamas has also not been truthful in some of the things that it's done, for sure, and you talk about the two-state solution. we just heard from the king of jordan who has basically said that because of the way in which israel has respondeded to this terror attack that happened on its soil on october 7th that he doesn't see that a two-state solution is even possible at this point. do you think a two-state solution is possible? >> well, it's not possible tomorrow, right? >> but look, the king of jordan has been committed to trying to stabilize the region. he's been a partner with israel. i'm sure they're having disagreements right now over how things are going. but no, i am hopeful that there can be a two-state solution on the horizon. it's hard to see that now, obviously, but look, when this phase is finished and they have eliminated hamas' infrastructure and when they've gotten the palestinian people away from hamas and they feel like israel is secure from the hamas attacks, my hope is that the arab world along with the united states and along with israel will figure out a way to link the gaza strip and the west bank and establish a palestinian state. >> all right. let me ask you about your trip. >> you met with israel and there are some 239 people all wondering and waiting and in fear for their loved ones, including children and including grandparents and what did you hear that stood out to you? >> well, while we're all focused on this war between hamas and israel and obviously the innocent palestinians that are caught in the middle. the families of the hostages are also caught in the middle and that was clear to me. obviously they support israel defending itself and they're deeply worried about where their loved ones are and in the tunnels and are they not in the tunnels and are they alive? are they okay? and this uncertainty that exists and how hamas is using it like propaganda with video of a hostage and misinformation. they are torturing these families and the overwhelming majority of these are not soldiers. these are innocent civilians. some of them are kids. one of them was a pregnant woman and one was a holocaust survivor. they took peace advocates and they took people who were fighting for rights of palestinians. they didn't care if you were a jew, they took you. and so i mean, these families are deeply worried. they'll do anything for some positive information. i know there's negotiations going on, and i can't comment on that, but i am hopeful that the qatari government figures out a way to get >> i think all of the families and all of the people in the world want to see that happen. these are innocent civilians who were taken through no -- absolutely no fault of their own. i do want to talk to you, quickly about what is happening in congress. you had a bit of a spat, if you will, and i hate to go from something so serious to something trivial, and there is work to be done i want to play what happened with comer during the committee. >> that is bullshit. >> you look like a smurf going around with this stuff. >> the american public -- why should they believe you? >> you've already been proven a liar. >> who has proven me a liar? you? >> yes. >> it was a very uncomfortable exchange and i don't think i've ever heard the word "smurf" on the floor there. how do you continue to find solutions for the american people? >> well, look, the chairman and i are becoming fast friends and -- [ laughter ] >> i mean, look, i work with republicans all of the time and i work with the republican administration and i know how to be a bipartisan guy and unfortunately what the chairman has done for the last several months is he's gone on television trying to paint this idea that joe biden did something wrong and he has no evidence to do that and i was trying to treat the chairman with the same rules. i'm not saying the chairman did anything wrong, maybe he did, maybe he didn't, if, innuendos and that's what the chairman has been doing every night on fox news. i want to point out to the american people the hypocrisy. clearly he needs a mental health day and i hope he gets that, but highway he reacted in my opinion has shown the chaos that republicans have been in in the last ten months. they removed their speakers, they can't pass bills and they can't fix the debt ceiling without the democrats and they can't pass aid with ukraine or israel without the democrats and you are seeing just pent-up frustration on the republican side. so as far as i'm concerned i'll work across the aisle and i'll work with my republican colleagues where i can for the betterment of the american people, but at the same time i'm going to call them out when they're misleading the american people and manipulating them because of donald trump for electoral purposes. >> you certainly did that to representative comer. congressman moskowitz, thank you so much for joining us this stalled. the supreme court rejected a student loan forgiveness plan and high prices from food to housing are fueling economic anxieties. >> i do think that everyone is willing to hold the with that. >> rachel carroll's first vote went to biden and says she doesn't regret it given the alternative and finds herself disappointed by priorities of the white house. >> if they can fund a war they can find the money to pay off our student loans. >> young voters were a critical component of the president's victory, particularly here in georgia where biden defeated donald trump by only 11,779 votes out of nearly 5 million cast. exit polls in 2020 show that voters 18 to 29 made up 20% of the georgia electorate, the only state of the top six battlegrounds where the percentage of young voters exceeded the national share of 17%. biden won young georgia voters by 13 polls according to exit polls, but now aier before the 2024 election, surveys show a far closer race with voters under trump accountable, we have to hold biden accountable. >> so, john, the margin clearly is very key. again, the president carried georgia by just 11,779 votes so every coalition is important, particularly younger voters who expressed to us concerns about the economy, student debt and more. the biden campaign says, look, they are aware of this. kevin munoz, a spokesman for the campaign told from the events in the middle east to carry out attacks here at home. >> evan perez joins me now from washington. you've been watching this through, what stood out to you. he talked about hamas quite a bit in this speech that's still going and he's talking right now. >> that's right, sara. one of the things that the fbi director has been very, very concerned is the skyrocketing number of threats associated with obviously, the events happening in israel and the hamas-israeli war and the number of people who are now being threatened, jewish-americans, muslim-americans and arab-americans are all on the receiving end of these threats and what they're talking about is a rogue gallery of terror organizations and everyone from al qaeda to isis and to hezbollah and hamas have called for some attacks against americans and so that's one of the concerns that he is most focused on as part of this hearing today, sara. >> he talked about and the last thing we just heard from him about some people associated with hamas who were under investigation. was there any more clarity as to exactly what that meant? was it money being given? was it a relationship? any more clarity on that? >> well, historically, one of the things he talks about is historically hamas, people associated with hamas have been most focused on financing, raising money here in the united states to finance the organization and the hamas itself has been mostly focused on carrying attacks and carrying out attacks in israel. that is now something that is being reassessed by the fbi and he talked about that that includes sheltering able-bodied combatants, also to store munitions or as a shield for military action and again, israel moments ago said they've uncovered concrete evidence of a hamas terror presence inside that hospital compound and we are waiting to see what evidence that is and there let's go to cnn's ed lavandera who is in tel aviv. ed? >> hi, john. as you mentioned, the importance of what is unfolding there at the al shifa hospital inside of gaza is crucial, not just from a military perspective, but also from a public relations and credibility standpoint as israel is engaged in this military offensive inside there of gaza and what is found there will ultimately go a long way in determining how people feel about how exactly all of this has unfolded there inside of gaza. as you mentioned, israeli defense forces saying they have found concrete evidence of hamas military fighters using that area around and underneath specifically the hospital grounds and that is the massive area that you're talking about around there during the heart of gaza city and we know that these military officials say they will release this information later today. military offensive inside of the hospital started early this morning so it's been going on for more than 13, 14 hours at this point here in israel and in gaza. a lot of attention being focused on this. we had heard from a palestinian journalist inside the hospital who described israeli soldiers that entered the hospital and were engaged in fire fights and an israeli defense force spokesperson denies that claim. >> there was fire exchange before we went into the hospital. we engaged with enemy before we entered and since we were in the hospital there was no engagement whatsoever inside the hospital at this moment with the patients or anyone else. >> john, and of course, at this moment, a great deal of concern about the hostages that remain in gaza. so far israeli military officials say they have not found any evidence or any signs of hostages there. if they do have that information they have not shared it yet and the headline is we are awaiting more information on what the israeli military is saying concrete evidence of the structure and organizations inside and underneath this prominent hospital in gaza. >> you talk about the public facing nature of this. israel has talked about this hospital for years as being a shield for terrorist operations and since october 7th they've made clear this is one of their goals in their invasion of gaza and even overed last 24 hours they've been very public with what they have been doing there. this doesn't appear to be something that israel is trying to conceal from the eyes of the world, albeit, we don't have cameras on the ground or reporters there at this time. >> that's true. israel is clearly aware of the public sentiment around the world that is critical of the way the israeli military has operated inside of gaza, but israeli military and government officials here have been steadfast in that they are here to dismantle the hamas military operations. they say and have said for quite some time that they believe this organization uses the areas underneath these hospitals to protect themselves, to use civilians as shields from protecting themselves from military strikes. they are described as a very cynical operation by hamas to operate this way and clearly, the world and those who have been very critical especially in the operations here around the al shifa hospital, jordan, for example, said it was appalled by the actions that the israeli military was engaging in the areas around that hospital. so there's been a great deal of criticism about it. israel very aware of that criticism around the world, as well. >> ed lavandera in tel aviv, keep us posted. kate? egypt's minister of health now says that they are trying to coordinate the transfer of neonatal babies from al shifa hospital. upon evacuating the hospital, tells al jazeera there is no place to move 40 incubators outside the hospital and that these babies are in severe danger. israel put out this morning, john was talking about it that it says shows the idf delivering medical supplies today. cnn can't independently verify this as we are not on the ground and haven't been able to reach the hospital for confirmation. let's go over to cnn's nada bashir in jerusalem. nada, the hospital is now under israeli control. what are you hearing about the conditions at the hospital? >> well, look, kate, there is a huge amount of concern for the safety and security of patient, of medical staff and of other civilians who have taken to the al shifa hospital in search of shelter. as you know, there have been fears about the hospital complex as well as the ground fighting which has impacted the hospital buildings directly over the last few days and of course, a huge amount of concern over this raid which took place in the early hours of the morning. as we know, the idf is targeting hamas infrastructure and says it has gathered evidence of a hamas command center beneath the al shifa hospital and again, this has been denied by hamas. the military presence has been denied and rejected by doctors on the ground inside al shifa and these doctors are now working under the most challenging, most difficult circumstances not only with the ongoing bombardment and want only with this raid which many feared and also because of the deteriorating humanitarian situation. we heard in the early hours of the morning from a doctor who was inside in al shifa as this raid was ongoing. take a listen to what he had to say. >> we can't look out the windows and doors and know what's happening. [ indiscernible ] again, it's a totally scary situation. >> what are those sounds, doctor? i'm hearing sounds? >> it's continuous shooting from the tanks. >> as we know, the israeli military has allowed for safe evacuations from the hospital, but what we are hearing from health officials on the ground is that it isn't safe enough to evacuate patients and civilians as well as medical staff and for many of these patients including those in the neonatal unit, they require a special medical evacuation and the circumstances around the hospital right now simply do not allow for that. kate? >> nada, thank you so much. sara? >> let's discuss this now with democratic congressman jared moskowitz of florida on the house foreign affairs committee. you just returned from israel with a bipartisan group to talk with netanyahu, to talk with some of those whose loved ones had been kidnapped and are hostages in gaza. let me first talk to you about what's happening at the hospital because we have new information. the troops are now in -- israeli troops are now in gaza's largest hospital and hospital complex saying hamas has been using it as a command center which hamas is still denying and the idf has concrete evidence of that, but today the specifics were a bit fuzzy when one of the members of the israeli military spoke with our morning show, cnn this morning and just listen to what the military spokesman told us this morning. >> we find certain things and that's all i can say at this stage. we understand there's a substantial hamas infrastructure in the area in the vicinity of the hospital, potentially under the hospital and what we're working on will take us time. this war is a complex war and we are taking very, very cautious actions in a very specific area inside the hospital. >> potentially the tunnels under the hospital and israel have said that they exist somewhere in the complex. we also heard from another spokesperson said they went in because of hostages and others say no, that's not why they went in. are you concerned about the differing stories and they're in the middle of an operation which gets complicated and do you have any concern about the stories from the idf? >> u.s. intelligence has also confirmed that they believe there is a hamas infrastructure below that hospital. so it's not just the israelis. with that said, look, i'm deeply worried worried about civilians in the hospital that hamas won't let leave and i'm worried about these unborn babies needing the medical tools, incubators and things that they need and the israeli government is trying to get them out of that hospital, but we've got to stop listening to hamas? why are we listening to hamas propaganda? >> this wasn't hamas. this was the differing from the idf military. >> we mentioned that hamas denies that they have an infrastructure below the hospital. why are we listening to them? our infrastructure is below the hospital? i mean, the israelis wouldn't be there, and there wouldn't be all of this focus on the hospital if they didn't have evidence that they're being looking for, if they didn't have access to tunnels, if they didn't have the technology to see below. they are there for a reason and that's why there is a continued focus on the hospital. this idea that israel is picking on a hospital trying to hurt people is the hamas propaganda that they want. hamas could have let those people leave weeks ago, right? they could have let them leave and they held them at gun point because what hamas wants is hamas wants to use the palestinians, the innocent palestinians as propaganda. they want them to die and then they want to put those images all over television. israel doesn't need to just protect israel from hamas. israel needs to protect the innocent palestinians from hamas, right? the only way we're going to get peace in this region and get to this two-state solution is to get the innocent palestinian people away from hamas. >> you talked about that and hamas has also not been truthful in some of the things that it's done, for sure, and you talk about the two-state solution. we just heard from the king of jordan who has basically said that because of the way in which israel has respondeded to this terror attack that happened on its soil on october 7th that he doesn't see that a two-state solution is even possible at this point. do you think a two-state solution is possible? >> well, it's not possible tomorrow, right? >> but look, the king of jordan has been committed to trying to stabilize the region. he's been a partner with israel. i'm sure they're having disagreements right now over how things are going. but no, i am hopeful that there can be a two-state solution on the horizon. it's hard to see that now, obviously, but look, when this phase is finished and they have eliminated hamas' infrastructure and when they've gotten the palestinian people away from hamas and they feel like israel is secure from the hamas attacks, my hope is that the arab world along with the united states and along with israel will figure out a way to link the gaza strip and the west bank and establish a palestinian state. >> all right. let me ask you about your trip. >> you met with israel and there are some 239 people all wondering and waiting and in fear for their loved ones, including children and including grandparents and what did you hear that stood out to you? >> well, while we're all focused on this war between hamas and israel and obviously the innocent palestinians that are caught in the middle. the families of the hostages are also caught in the middle and that was clear to me. obviously they support israel defending itself and they're deeply worried about where their loved ones are and in the tunnels and are they not in the tunnels and are they alive? are they okay? and this uncertainty that exists and how hamas is using it like propaganda with video of a hostage and misinformation. they are torturing these families and the overwhelming majority of these are not soldiers. these are innocent civilians. some of them are kids. one of them was a pregnant woman and one was a holocaust survivor. they took peace advocates and they took people who were fighting for rights of palestinians. they didn't care if you were a jew, they took you. and so i mean, these families are deeply worried. they'll do anything for some positive information. i know there's negotiations going on, and i can't comment on that, but i am hopeful that the qatari government figures out a way to get >> i think all of the families and all of the people in the world want to see that happen. these are innocent civilians who were taken through no -- absolutely no fault of their own. i do want to talk to you, quickly about what is happening in congress. you had a bit of a spat, if you will, and i hate to go from something so serious to something trivial, and there is work to be done i want to play what happened with comer during the committee. >> that is bullshit. >> you look like a smurf going around with this stuff. >> the american public -- why should they believe you? >> you've already been proven a liar. >> who has proven me a liar? you? >> yes. >> it was a very uncomfortable exchange and i don't think i've ever heard the word "smurf" on the floor there. how do you continue to find solutions for the american people? >> well, look, the chairman and i are becoming fast friends and -- [ laughter ] >> i mean, look, i work with republicans all of the time and i work with the republican administration and i know how to be a bipartisan guy and unfortunately what the chairman has done for the last several months is he's gone on television trying to paint this idea that joe biden did something wrong and he has no evidence to do that and i was trying to treat the chairman with the same rules. i'm not saying the chairman did anything wrong, maybe he did, maybe he didn't, if, innuendos and that's what the chairman has been doing every night on fox news. i want to point out to the american people the hypocrisy. clearly he needs a mental health day and i hope he gets that, but highway he reacted in my opinion has shown the chaos that republicans have been in in the last ten months. they removed their speakers, they can't pass bills and they can't fix the debt ceiling without the democrats and they can't pass aid with ukraine or israel without the democrats and you are seeing just pent-up frustration on the republican side. so as far as i'm concerned i'll work across the aisle and i'll work with my republican colleagues where i can for the betterment of the american people, but at the same time i'm going to call them out when they're misleading the american people and manipulating them because of donald trump for electoral purposes. >> you certainly did that to representative comer. congressman moskowitz, thank you so much for joining us this morning and giving us your different analysis and ideas on what is happening with the israeli-hamas war and what is happening in congress. i appreciate your time. thank you. moments ago the fbi director warning of a heightened terror threat against americans. what is he basing this on and with less than a year to go until the 2024 election, president biden faces an uphill battle with a key group of voters. all right. this morning, president biden is facing a warning sign in younger voters. they were kit critical in helping him win the white house in 2020 and now they're telling cnn's jeff zeleny, maybe not so much. >> people may not vote because they all say when this happened under the biden-harris administration. >> as kry singleton looks ahead to the next presidential election he's thinking back to the promises he heard president biden and vice president harris deliver on a visit to atlanta. >> pass the freedom to vote act! pass it now! >> on that winter day the president was closing in on his first year in office. hopes were high for singleton and other students on the grounds of clark atlanta university and morehouse college. since then voting rights legislation stalled. the supreme court rejected a student loan forgiveness plan and high prices from food to housing are fueling economic anxieties. >> i do think that everyone is willing to hold the administration accountable for some of those promises that were made and if they don't happen i think it will be a scary election. >> for all of the warning signs facing the president a year before the election, the skepticism and apathy ofof youn voters rank high. >> folks just feel poorer right now than they did two years ago. there will have to be a lot of conversations about how we feel like our issues are being heard. >> nebila parks is the young of the for woman to win a seat in the senate. she went door to door in the atlanta suburbs, joining a coalition to help biden turn the state blue. that coalition, she said, could fracture by the president's handling of the israel-hamas war. >> young voters know you can't bomb your way to peace and security, and so we do feel uncomfortable with that. >> rachel carroll's first vote went to biden and says she doesn't regret it given the alternative and finds herself disappointed by priorities of the white house. >> if they can fund a war they can find the money to pay off our student loans. >> young voters were a critical component of the president's victory, particularly here in georgia where biden defeated donald trump by only 11,779 votes out of nearly 5 million cast. exit polls in 2020 show that voters 18 to 29 made up 20% of the georgia electorate, the only state of the top six battlegrounds where the percentage of young voters exceeded the national share of 17%. biden won young georgia voters by 13 polls according to exit polls, but now aier before the 2024 election, surveys show a far closer race with voters under the age of 30 here in georgia mrit 46% for trump and 44% for biden according to a new york times/sienna college poll. >> the excitement is not as high as it was last time. >> elon gibson ask his classmates wish they had more aspirational and generational choices. >> we have to pick between two different people who are very, very old and up in age. >> we would like to see biden pass. >> the vice president, whose college tour brought her back on campus this fall resonates more. >> i think she sparks that energy. when she came to morehouse it was fun. i feel her passion. >> with biden at the top of the ticket, potentially facing a rematch of the 2020 race, voters say the burden rests on him to deliver on his promises and not take their support for granted. >> just as well as we hold trump accountable, we have to hold biden accountable. >> so, john, the margin clearly is very key. again, the president carried georgia by just 11,779 votes so every coalition is important, particularly younger voters who expressed to us concerns about the economy, student debt and more. the biden campaign says, look, they are aware of this. kevin munoz, a spokesman for the campaign told me this, n yext year's election is deeply consequential for young people and we're highlighting how an extreme maga,a jenda would devastate the safety and freedom of young people. we will meet younger voters where they are and earn their votes. john, one thing that's clear from talking to so many younger voters here. they have their work cut out for them, no doubt. the biden campaign is hoping for that contrast if trump wins the nomination to go again against president biden. john? >> one year to go, jeff zeleny, thank you very much for that report. kate? a warning from fbi director chris wray that the israel-hamas war has in his words, raised the threat of an attack against americans in the united states to a whole other level. what he's still telling congress this morning about the potential new terror threats to the united states and also what the fbi is monitoring in terms of investigations as this war continues. we'll be right back. as we speak, fbi director christopher wray is testifying about the heightened threat here in the united states because of the ongoing war between israel and hamas. wray says the fbi is conducting multiple investigations into individuals affiliated with hamas. listen. >> since october 7th we've seen a rogue gallery foreign terrorist organizations call for attacks against americans and our allies. hezbollah expressed its support and praise for hamas and threatened to attack u.s. interests in the middle east. given those calls for action our most individual concern is that individuals or small groups will draw twisted inspiration from the events in the middle east to carry out attacks here at home. >> evan perez joins me now from washington. you've been watching this through, what stood out to you. he talked about hamas quite a bit in this speech that's still going and he's talking right now. >> that's right, sara. one of the things that the fbi director has been very, very concerned is the skyrocketing number of threats associated with obviously, the events happening in israel and the hamas-israeli war and the number of people who are now being threatened, jewish-americans, muslim-americans and arab-americans are all on the receiving end of these threats and what they're talking about is a rogue gallery of terror organizations and everyone from al qaeda to isis and to hezbollah and hamas have called for some attacks against americans and so that's one of the concerns that he is most focused on as part of this hearing today, sara. >> he talked about and the last thing we just heard from him about some people associated with hamas who were under investigation. was there any more clarity as to exactly what that meant? was it money being given? was it a relationship? any more clarity on that? >> well, historically, one of the things he talks about is historically hamas, people associated with hamas have been most focused on financing, raising money here in the united states to finance the organization and the hamas itself has been mostly focused on carrying attacks and carrying out attacks in israel. that is now something that is being reassessed by the fbi and he talked about that republican from indiana, thank you very much for being with us. have you heard reports of member on member violence yet today? >> listen, how we do with fighting, and the conversations are good, but when they go personal it's probably not necessary and it's a waste of energy where we have real problems to deal with. >> how do you explain what happened? >> listen, i wasn't there. i'm assuming you're referring to speaker mccarthy's situation. if it is true he just probably -- it's not wise. speaker mccarthy was frustrated and he was the speaker without having a vote and he had the opportunity to govern and the republicans didn't feel that, you know, some of us that he did a good job and we have a new spook are speaker now and he has thing ahead of him and kevin needs to get over and move on. >> you noted that you have a new speaker now and he has a tough job ahead of him. you may not be making it any easier. you voted against the continuing resolutions yesterday to fund the government. you're not giving him much of a honeymoon, are you? >> we gave him some honeymoon and i was willing to give him some time to deal with our appropriations, but i was very disappointed that last second he added the farm bill and actually put it until the next fiscal year, until october and this is an important bill because we have to improve the competition with smaller farms and how we can have americans healthier and have better foods. i think we need to think about that, and i was very disappointed that we decided to -- this issue and i don't think it was wise and i'm not sure if there will be a lot of governing happening in the election next year. >> there were actually more democrats that voted for this than republicans. is this what you thought you were getting with a speaker mike johnson? >> listen, as i said, his honeymoon is much faster than for kevin and of course, democrats continue there and the legislative under nancy pelosi and they should be pretty happy and a lot of us were willing to give him some time, but we also wanted to move some other policy or at least not add some other things that he should have done and now it will be a test for him. in the next few months we will have to deliver on serious issues including on that commission and including the appropriations, and i hope we will find common ground and that the democrats will come onboard because these are very important issues. >> you say you hope, but do you think voters in indiana and the rest of the country should be prepared for a government shutdown in january or february? >> listen, unfortunately, no one wants to shut down this government and this government needs serious reform. i wouldn't worry about that. i would worry about the elf well of spending and we'll spend over a billion dollars in interest and we'll have to refinance pretty much half of our bonds at a much higher rate and what's happening with the economy and inflation, we may have a very, very serious fiscal issue. when we said our future generations and children and grandchildren will have problems? no. unfortunately, we'll have them r right now and we have to become adults and deal with these issues. >> have to become adults and perhaps the line that congress should take as a lesson given the events of the last few days. congresswoman victoria spartz, thank you so much. >> the great state of indiana. that's the required way we refer to it. >> recuse! recuse yourself! israeli officials say they have uncovered concrete evidence that hamas has used al shifa hospital as the as has used the facility as a terror headquarters. a senior official also saying they will be publishing more details including footage of this later today. it's not justice rail. the white house is now reiterating that u.s. intelligence shows hamas has a command center in al shifa. that raid is still ongoing, though and hamas acknowledged that the hospital is now under israeli control. cnn's orrin lieberman has more for us from tel aviv. >> the israeli military operation going into shifa hospital began early wednesday morning and at this point it has continued for the past 13 or so hours with no indication on how long it might take. the idf has long accused hamas of using gaza's hospital, the al shifa hospital complex, as a base for terror infrastructure, as a command and control center and they also have evidence and intelligence that that is what hamas uses the hospital for. a senior israeli military official who briefed reporters says they have evidence specifically showing hamas uses al shifa hospital and they'll put it out at this point and that's expected some time later on today. the officials say they've been preparing for this specific operation for a couple of weeks and required specialized training for the difficulties and the complexities of operating inside a hospital. israel went in with arabic speaker to communicate with the doctors, the officials and the patients and the civilians the doctors had been treating some 650 patients and over the past several days and weeks had been home to thousands who were seeking shelter from the fighting outside. this is also some video released from the idf earlier today that shows them dropping off incubators, medical supplies and baby food. we have geolocated to al shifa hospital and because we are not on the ground in gaza we cannot independently verify what is happening there because of the difficulties of reporting in gaza at this time. there are reports and we have spoken with officials at the hospital of ongoing fighting on the streets outside and the israeli military says from have been no gun fights and exchanges in the gun fire on the complex itself. they haven't been specific on where they're operating. this shows you how large the complex is. they say they're operating in a very specific part of the complex and they won't be more precise about where that is. according to the israeli army radio they have not found evidence of hostages being held at the hospital and that, too, part of the ongoing effort of the israeli military in gaza. >> orrin leishman on the ground for us still recovering from the injuries that he suffered in that hammer attack which included a skull fracture. cnn's veronica is outside the courthouse for us. what was it like with depape in the courtroom? how did he act in court and on the stand? >> it was really interesting to observe, kate. he actually got very emotional at some parts, started sobbing when talking about former president donald trump and the lies that he said the media spread about the former president. this is a man who is clearly enraptured by conspiracy theories. he talked about how 9/11 was an inside job and other
