cnn central starts right now. strong words and the most direct condemnation yet of civilian deaths coming from america's top diplomats. secretary of state antony blinken saying, quote, too many palestinians have been killed in the israel-hamas war. >> and election officials on alert this morning after a string of suspicious letters were mailed to election officers across the country, some containing fentanyl. one georgia election official calling it domestic terrorism. >> we are now days out from yet another government shutdown. right now congress has no plans and no clear path to avoid it. i'm kate bolduan. john and sara are off. this is cnn central. secretary of state blinken coming out with his strongest comments really yet in urging israel to do more to protect civilians in gazaa. israel has agreed to small windows, pauses each day for civilians to get out of the combat zone in northern gaza. just ending minutes ago. blinken making sure the administration doesn't think this is enough. --. >> much more needs to be done. to protect civilians and to make sure humanitarian system treats -- far too many palestinians have been killed. far too many have suffered. these past weeks. >> blinken said this just as more explosions were being seen this time near two of gaza's hospitals where israel says hamas has placed some of its headquarters underneath. the extent of the damage there not known, but both hospitals report they are still operating and treating patients. we also have new video to show that is showing the aftermath of an apparent strike near a third hospital al shea hospital in northern gazaa. you can see people who are belied and pleading for help in the courtyard in the aftermath of it. this is a hospital housing many people seeking cover. 1/4 hospital, this one for children has been voupded by tanks. that -- surrounded by tanks. that director has been asked for help in evacuating doctors and patients there. let's go over to cnn orren lieberman in tel aviv. let's talk first about the comments from secretary blinken today. what could be the impacts of those words? >> what we'll see with forces israeli leadership and the idf change, how they operate. certainly, there are no indications thated with the idf saying they have surrounded gaza city. we can clearly see from those videos the idf moving deeper and deeper into the heart of gaza city including hospital leaders there surrounding some hospitals with strikes taking place very close to and according to those officials impacting those hospitals. that, of course, as gaza's health sector already under a tremendous amount of pressure with a number of hospitals already having to close or shut down different departments. that has placed an even greater strain on health system there and the aability to treat gaza civilians there and palestinians this. comes as the palestinian ministry of health in gaza run by hamas and in the west bank report that the death toll now, the number of palestinians killed here has surpassed 11,000 including 4500 children and 3,000 women. that part of what compelled secretary of state blinken to say more needs to be done here. the suffering on the part of palestinians, he says, iss. meanwhile, as you pointed out, the humanitarian corner that the idf allowed closed just a few moments ago. we saw pictures coming out of gaza, one of the many north-south corners. thousands more seemed evacuated today. we'll wait for the official number on top of tens of thousands yesterday and tens of thousands the day before trying to get out of northern gaza where the idf focused a lot of their efforts. there we have seen the results of that, the destruction as the idf tries to destroy hamas and go of aits underground infrastructure. >> yeah, and so many people taking advantage of these evacuation windows to get out by foot, by cart as you can see, in the videos coming in for days now. thank you, orren, so much. >> we're following details about the highly anticipated sitdown between joe biden and chinese president ping. the meeting is set for next wednesday in the san francisco area and it comes as multiple crises unfold at once so does the white house expect this to ease growing tensions between the two countries here? >> president biden is facing a big task as he is prepared to meet with xi jinping, this comes after he's trying to stabilize the relationship further after there have been tensions and strains over the past year. it's unexpected that there will be a major thaw in relations simply from this meeting. but aides say the fact he's sitting down with xi is a positive sign as well in. announcing this meeting today white house press secretary jean pierre said, quote, the leaders will discuss issues in the u.s., bilateral relationship, the continued importance of maintaining open lines of communication, and a range of reged global issues. now senior administration officials say they are hoping that this will start to present a framework that the u.s. can have in trying to maintain competitive relations in china, while also trying to avoid any misperceptions or surprises of between the two countries. but aides have also been realistic there may not be any concrete outcomes coming from this exact meeting it. will be the second time the two lead are meeting since biden became president. officials say president biden is prepared to raise a host of issues in this sitdown with jinping. that includes pushing president xi on trying to reestablish the military-to-military communications which china had ended about a year ago. there is just expected to be discussions about the conflicts in israel and ukraine, as the u.s. has really urged china to take a more constructive role in both of those conflicts. they are also expected to talk about some issues of agreement, things like cli the officials say the president is prepared to push jinping on issues where they disagree, issues related to human rights as well as taiwan. of course, this meeting is also playing out, as you're seeing significant global tensions in those conflicts in israel and ukraine. but president biden is hoping this meeting with xi will help stabilize the relationship between the two countries. seeing these tensions over the course of the last year. >> well a lot of threats to keep an eye on there. on the home front, i want to shift because i think it's important to note president biden also announced new protection for veterans in observance of this veterans day. how significant are the changes and when are these protections? >> president biden often says one of the country's only most sacred obligations is offering support for veterans and their families and he's announcing steps today to do just that. that includes offering free healthcare and nursing home veterans to the veterans of two. they are also trying to speed up eligibility to those exposed to toxic burn pits to a program that will offer additional benefits and programs that will protect families from fraud and scams. while the federal government is observing veterans day today, tomorrow president biden will travel out to arlington cemetery where he will lay the wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier and deliver remarks for veterans. of course, the president has promoted veterans in his agenda, something he believes draws bipartisan support. >> signs at the white house. thank you so much. >> so this morning election officials across the country really are being forced to a new level of high alert after a string of suspicious letters were mailed to election offices in at least six states. some of the letters mailed to washington state contained fentanyl. you see all the six states right here. a letter addressed to georgia is also suspected of containing the extremely dangerous drug that honestly shoulded poison. the justice department and the fbi, they are now investigating. we're following this. joining us now. nick, what's the latest? >> hey there, kate. good to see you. investigators are treating all these letters as if they are linked. they were sent out at the same time. that will lead investigators to track down who is responsible for this. early this morning georgia secretary of state indicated that there could be already a potential suspect that's been identified. he, of course, is secretary of state here in georgia and fulton county. maybe a familiar name to a lot of our viewers. it was one of the election offices that was targeted and drawn the ire of the president as well as conspiracy theorists, election denyers. it was yesterday where he called on election officials and candidates to denounce his activity. and earlier this morning on cnn this morning, he talked been all 159 countries here in georgia are now going to be prepared in the 2024 cycle for us piicious activity. >> we're going to make sure we prepare all 159 counties and prepare them for this. make sure there's energy that and available for -- narcan for those who rev this mail and train them in that use. >> there are crazy people out there who will go to any extreme to disrupt, interrupt, bear, open, transparent elections in our country. it's my personal belief that this is probably a forerunner to what we can be prepared for in 2024. >> georgia officials are being very full at a press conference yesterday. fulton county has been the target of harassment and poll workers here. you remember shane ross and ruby freeman. they were targeted by far-s theorists. it's certainly a concern here in georgia and beyond. you have several states being targeted by these letters. of course kate, all this happening amid a backdrop of threats and political intimidation against election officials nationwide. kate? >> nick, thank you so much for putting that all together and following this for us. let's talk more about this. joining us right now is special -- is retired fbi super advisory special agent dan broner. good to have you back in. dan, so they have got multiple investigations federal authorities have right now. the fbi. what will they, should they, and are they, do you think, doing at this moment to track down people behind these suspicious letters? >> good morning, kate, thanks. the fbi and all these six different states, but most importantly, all 56 divisions are are aware and prepared for this incident. this is not a new incident. to the 2023 ricin case and a similar incident in engineers he. they will be working closely with inspectors. they will be getting all that material to quantico to the labs to be test. they will be looking at the stamps, the dna. they will look at fibers. they are going to try to determine the origin of the envelopes, where they were purchased, the point of entry of where they entered the postal line. with the postal inspectors. each one of these things, each one of these are clues towards the investigation. most likely, fbi headquarters is going to be coordinating all six divisions and getting them all together and getting all the materials, so that there's one division, which has one clue and georgia has another one. they will be brought together so there's one repository, one person and one organization, one unit at headquarters that is going to bring it all together. they are looking for i hads. they are going to work with the -- identifyers. they are going to look at qaun quo -- quantico. they are going to look at way the letters were written, what kind of language was used to indicate who may have been the person with the letters. the indications may additionally lead to more leads. the fact that there are far left organizations symbols on there may be something that will throw them off. my gut instinct says it's a little bit too much of them trying to claim responsibility, and in fact, that fulton county was targeted as well as specifically also leads me to believe that it could be, but most importantly, the fbi and u.s. postal service will not leave any lead unturned and look at both directions. >> they are not leaving any assumptions. first, they follow the leads and then they will figure the motivation. so you mentioned ricin. and when you hear suspicious letters, you think of ricin. you think of anthrax scares. you don't necessarily think of fentanyl. and the fact that even in wash state, they detected fentanyl in the letter. you mentioned fulton county georgia, it's suspected that fentanyl, the letter contained fentanyl. will we know about -- what we know about fentanyl is how deadly it is. a few grachbz table salt equivalent of fentanyl can be lethal -- grains. it's a drug i generally think we should be calling it a poison. what do you think of this? i don't know, this evolution now that they are putting fentanyl in letters like this? >> well it's something that the fbi has prepared for. i'm not an fbi hazmat expert. there are plenty of fbi agents who are extremely knowledgeable and they work with homeland security. they work with all the other hazmat teams statesies, so they are prepared for this type of incident. i -- state agencies. i think that fentanyl changes the envelope, changes the perspective of how this will be addressed. i don't know if the amounts were deadly enough to cause damage to the air of the individual who was opening it. obviously, as the georgia secretary of state just stated, this is going to change the election process, but it's not going to halt it. i don't think that everyone is going to adapt. i think all 56 fbi divisions are going to work with all their state partners in preparing their election officials, in getting them understanding of how to open the mail-in ballots. i think that's going to change the election in 2024, versus how it was in 2020. all these mail-in ballots are going to have to be looked at with a little bit more scrutiny, a little bit more testing, but i think that the goal of the individuals is the going to be -- is not going to stop the process. >> it's also just a scary new tentacle of the terrifying scourge that fentanyl is in all communities. now this going -- now this is kind of leak a new avenue and horrific use that fentanyl is being put to use for. dan, thanks for coming in. appreciate your time. omar? >> well kate, with one week left until a government shutdown, some not so encouraging words from senior republican congressman. he tells cnn what you would say after hosting a family for thanksgiving. the house is a mess. plus, exclusive cnn reporting about who could be called to testify in former president trump's classified documents case. it includes everyone from mar-a-lago's plumbers to the chauffeur. and two florida sheriffs deputies are in the hospital after being what's described as a violent ambush. we'll show you the shocking video of the suspect ramaming h. -- car into them. fully divided congress, a new house speaker and just days left before the next government shutdown, a recipe for a real mess for sure. federal funding expires on november 17th. so maybe we should not be surprised. a senior republican describes it this way to cnn. quote, speaker johnson will have to thread a difficult needle while walking a high wire in gale-force winds. sounds like you do something everyday, lauren, and do you it so well. where do things stand with this one? what are you hearing? is there anything on the table? >> well right now, we are all waiting to see what speaker johnson decides to do know from a source i spoke with this morning is that we are expected to see some legislative text tomorrow at some point. that will, of course, outline the path that republicans are deciding to move forward with. but what exactly that path looks like kate right now is an opened question. as of yesterday lawmakers talking late into the evening said they do not have a good sense of which way speaker johnson was actually going to lean when it came to whether or not to pursue this two-step strategy where you have a number of government agencies that would be defund on one day. other agencies that would be defunded on a later date. that is the preference of some members of the house freedom caucus. then you have moderates and people who are veteran appropriaters, who have been arguing behind the scenes to johnson that this is just a short-term fix, that the better way to go about a funding showdown with the white house is to try to pass as many of their individual spending bills as possible, and then set themselves up for january when they can have a larger funding fight. in the meantime, the argument from some of those members has been let's just do a short-term as clean as possible spending bill that might include some kind of israel aid or some kind of debt commission, but nothing that would really set up a massive showdown with the united states senate. it's just not clear what speaker johnson is going to do. as you noted, this is really his first big test as a newly minted speaker. so far this week, he's had a couple of setbacks. they tried to pass a number of individual spending one-year bills on the house floor this week. there were differences between the moderates and the hard-liners on two of those bills. they had to pull them. obviously, it just shows you that this speaker has the same problems that kevin mccarthy dealt with when he was speaker of the house just last month. >> kate it is confusing and while there's no clear path and while we may see legislate you have texts. one thing i want to ask you about this step-by-step shutdown i -- not in all the years i've covered shutdowns have i ever heard of this is even a concept. is this a new thing? >> well this is something that conservatives have wanted speaker johnson to pursue. but you are not alone in your confusion, kate. a lot of republican senators have also argued that they have no idea how that would actually work in practice. kate? >> stand by, stand by, my friend. good to see you, lauren. thank you so much. omar? >> stand by, stand by. well let's bring in political white house reporter for associated press kim and bloomberg mario parker. we have a lot to talk about. i want to talk with you. we're kind of picking over the conversation. mccarthy isn't speaker anymore, but he was the last time we flirted with a government shutdown, which is ancient history six weeks ago at this point. listen to what he said yesterday about the current speaker mike johnson. >> will the speaker confront the same problems you had? >> no. look, you get a honeymoon. but it was personal. it was been ethics complaint. we can't go through it again. >> so the question is, is this going to be different from the mccarthy-era fights? >> well the former speaker is certainly right. that speaker mike johnson does have a little bit of a honeymoon era right now. i do think that no matter how controversial his move was with democrats, some republicans and certainly, the white house. being aggression did earn him goodwell conservatives that he was going to have to cash in and beg to use at a later date. that later date may be coming up soon. mccarthy and conservatives hard right in this conference was certainly very versatile. mike johnson does not have that among other house republicans. neither among moderates or the hard righters conference. etion broadly well liked. once you get down to brass tacks and you have to govern, he is facing the same problems the former speaker did with the narrow, narrow majority that house republicans have and with the coalition that you have in the house. you have moderates running for reelection in districts that biden won in 2020, and you have the hard right, who are unyielding and don't want to compromise on issues of spending nor on many other issues. that is an incredibly difficult, you know, tightrope to walk for speaker johnson. we know he's in the more conservative side of things, but as a leader, as someone who has to actually govern, this really is a test for him. we don't know how he's going it deal with those issues just yet over a week away from a shutdown. >> of course, really the first major test outside of getting the speakership himself. i want to stay on capitol hill but on the senate side. joe mansion announced he wouldn't be running for reelection. obviously, a very slim margin for democrats on the senate side especially since west virginia governor justice seemed to be a strong candidate on the republican side out of west virginia right now. what options do democrats have right now? how are they preparing for potentially a power shift in their ranks? >> so i think that at best, what democrats are preparing for right now is perhaps a 50-50 senate. right now democrats control the 1-49, and even if joe mansion were to run for reelection, the west virginia, keeping the west virginia seat was going to be seen as very hard. i think that it's really safe to say that basically, west virginia is a safe republican seat with mansion not running for reelection. that means that there is a really tough -- democrats have to hold onto their seats. it's actually pretty conservative as montana and ohio. very difficult challenge for democrats in the year ahead. >> yeah, yeah. is stand by for us because i want to bring in mario parker here. so mario, with mansion retiring at this point, some of them obviously worried about him launching a presidential bid that could threaten president biden's campaign. how do you see a potential launch for the presidential bid affecting a campaign with biden's? >> there's deep consternation on the part of democrats this mansion could jump into the race. this is probably the worst scenario for democrats the you saw in his statements and glimpses may be when he talks about canvassing the country, speaking if there's an appetite for americans for some type of movement, right that word movement is like -- >> he's like stealing things out. >> exactly, exactly. the democrats in 2024 ching, the last thing you need is mansion coming in and bloodying up biden. bloomberg, we have a poll shows that the seven swing states that will essentially decide the election, biden is trailing former president donald trump, who is currently the front-runner by about six percentage points. a lot of those states that democrats will be essentially defending senate seats in lot of swing states as well. >> just quick really fast, give me 15-second elpitch on top issues from those polls looking at immigration over things like the war in israel. is that a problem for biden? >> that is a problem for biden because he's cast himself as this foreign policy hawk that's going back to traditional values. americans are showing they really want him to focus more on the border. >> we'll see what happens. thanks for being here. thanks for being. there we'll very much more of course coming up on all these topics later in the show. kate? >> thanks for being here and thanks for being there. you too. coming up for us, a plumber and woodworker. prosecutors say they are the eyes and ears of mar-a-lago, and now they may be called to testify in one of the, federal criminal trials against donald trump. also, this. why robert deniro's production company is having to pay his former assistant $1.2 million? we'll be right back. the power goes out and we still have wifi to do our homework. and that's a good thing? great in my book! who are you? no power? no problem. introducing storm-ready wifi. now you can stay reliably connected through power outages with unlimited cellular data and up to 4 hours of battery back-up to keep you online. only from xfinity. home of the xfinity 10g network. to exclusive cnn reporting this morning, what do a plumber, a maid, a chauffeur and woodworker have in common? they all could be potential witnesss in donald trump's criminal trial in florida. at least that's what sources tell cnn. prosecutors are building their case against former president over his mishandling of classified documents found at mar-a-lago. we have kate with this in washington. what more are you learning about who may take the stand in this case? >> omar, these are the types of people who would be the eyes and ears of the mar-a-lago resort after trump left the presidency. and they are the types of people that not only did investigators find them whenever they were investigating this case and deciding had you to charge it, they are also the people that are very likely to be called to the witness stand to testify against donald trump when he goes to trial. right now, that trial is set for may of next year. we're waiting to see if the judge moves that date back and how far she pushes it back. it's been more than a week where the judge said, i'm going to let you know when the trial will take place and what other deadlines will be. we still haven't heard from her on that. but these people are important because of two things. one, they were the people who were noticing things around the mar-a-lago property, who may be able to paint the picture for the jury of what it was like inside the trump was behaving, how things were moving around. the woodworker for instance noticed stacks of papers they looked so suspicious they looked like movie props to him. he wasn't sure what they were but they may have been classified documents. the second thing these people will be able to do is highlight just how unsecured mar-a-lago was once you were inside the gates. there were temporary employees around. there were maids cleaning bedrooms. and these people are access to the very same locations. the ballrooms, the bathroom, the bedroom suite of donald trump where classified documents were kept, where the justice department has been able to find that based in photographic evidence, or where they believe classified documents may have been stored inside boxes being touched by people, who wouldn't have security clearances. so all of this could be very important at the trial of donald trump. big question though on whether those people, whether these witnesses will tell their stories publicly before donald trump thinks thanks his voters -- faces voters in presidential election. >> you highlight two very important factors in this. obviously, the intricacies of what these people might be saying if they are called to testify. but also, whether the judge keeps the timeline of this case on track for before the election or whether it ends up getting pushed after. we will see. kate thank you as always. >> let's talk about this polling with former federal prosecutor with new york. thanks for jumping on with me. what do you make of caitlin's reporting on this? the range of people the special council is talking to? what does it say about their investigation? >> listen, it means they have been doing a thorough investigation, so they are talking to everybody, who has been in that property. they have seen things that were untoward, that were out of place. and, you know, it sounds like would have recording as of the really talking to these people and quite possibly use them to tell the story in the jury. >> the attorney running for president, i'm speaking to cnn. let me play this for you. >> what you want to see in the witness list is a broad and deep witness list that could cover every potential contingency, every potential exit ramp that the defendant may have to try to justify his or her conduct that you believe is based upon evidence is criminal. i think what you're seeing is how thorough jack smith's investigation has been, and that there's no one who has seen or heard anything at mar-a-lago regarding these documents, who is going to be immune from testifying if they believe they have vanity information. >> and they are going to the next step. what do these people, a plumber, a woodworker, a chauffeur, a maid -- what do they do for the special council's case if they are called and put on the witness stand? >> that's a good question. i think they actually add a lot of credibility to the case, right? because these people are just going to be able to provide a glimpse into what happened in mar-a-lago, a sort of slice of time, the woodworker in mr. trump's bedroom and things like that. but they are going to bolster the case. so the case will come in piece by piece. everybody will provide a little bit and then the government is hoping that it all adds up to a conviction at the end of the day. >> yeah. i want to ask you about another slice of the legal troubles that donald trump is facing. today an ally of trump's republicanwoman filed a judicial complaint about the american judicial conduct against judge goring. this is the judge handling the physical fraud case against donald trump. i'll read a quote from the filing as the team put out. it says, this judge's bizarre behavior has no place in our judicial system where the judge is not offering the defendant's rights to due process in a fair trial. it also says, simply put, the judge goring has displayed a clear and judicial bias against the defendant throughout the case, breaking several rules in the new york code of conduct -- several rules in the new york code of judicial conduct. do you see a basis for this? and what can happen with the complaint -- when a complaint like this is filed with a state commission on judicial conduct against a judge? >> so if the complaint has merit the commission can launch an investigation and look into it. you know, this complaint i think stefanek should have done more legal research because there is a lot in there that's legally wrong and she discusses the summary judgment opinion issued by the court and seems to sort of discredit that opinion. i mean, that is sort of a normal process in every civil case in this country that there's an opportunity to seek some rejudgment, which is what both parties did here. so i think she has some legal infirmities in her complaint here that they are going to make the commission rather dismissive of it. >> thanks for coming on. really appreciate it. >> thank you. >> omar? well kate, some breaking news in this hour. the man at the center of a major new jersey manhunt connected to charges in the january 6th attack on the capitol is now in custody. cnn paula sandoval has the latest on what happened here la, walk us through how this came to an end. >> reporter: omar, this development into cnn a few minutes ago marks the conclusion of a search that was about 48 hours in for a former military police officer that according to law enforcement was wanted in connection for the january 6th attacks on the capitol. his name is gregory yedman. police in new jersey confirming in the last few moments that he surrendered to authorities, turned himself into authorities without incident. quick background on this. it was about two days ago authorities moved in on his home to exit a search warrant. according to authorities, yedman fled by jumping over a fence. yedman previously served in the new jersey arm he national guard as a military police officer. he also mentioned he had previously spoken to usa today saying he had been at the capitol the day of the attacks, but he insisted that he did not commit a crime. in fact, that he was even interviewed by federal authorities and that everything had been sorted out the way the least had been resolved in his own words. here we are now just two days after the search was launched for him and authorities do have him in custody. main question to answer still and we're working to track this down for folks, omar, are the details of that. warrants the authorities were trying to execute when yedman fled. >> i know you'll stay on top of it. paul sandoval, thank you so much. coming up for us, the latest on a violent ambush on two florida police officers captured on video. their status and more details on why the suspect targeted them next. so there is some dramatic new footage coming in this morning of a violent and terrifying ambush of two florida deputies. police say that they were targeted by a man who was, quote determined to kill them. we're going to play some of the video for you in a moment. of course, at first i want to warn you that it is graphic. it is disturbing. it shows the deputies responding to a 911 call. a man had left the scene, but then came back. and according to the sheriff, deliberately sped up his car and violently collided them with the deputies who were in you could consider the worst possible place standing just in front of their patrol car. now the audio of this clip has been removed because it's too disturbing. let's watch this together. now cnn's isabella rosales has more on this. she's seen more of the individual yeses joining us now. isabelle, can you walk us through what is known and not known about what happened and how are the deputies doing? >> hey, good morning. that video -- those videos, multiple videos are absolutely horrific. at last check here, these deputies were airlifted. there are two of them airlifted to tampa general hospital to undergo surgery to try to save their lives and their legs. one of the deputies may actually lose his leg. that is according to sheriff chad of the hillsboro county sheriff's office who said that leg might have to be amputated. so let me walk you through this. this happened in brandon. thiss east of tampa. these deputies critically injured after responding to a 911 call by a man whos, as you mentioned, determined to kill deputy sheriffs. a woman on thursday called 911 indicating that she was in fear for her life of her son, who was behaving erratically. so deputies showed up to the scene there and tried to keep with ralph, who was in his car in the driver's seat, but said that boozey refused to speak to them, and then backed up off the driveway and drove off. but then he came back. we're going to show you a closer look at this video. but another warning. this is extremely graphic. you see buzey rounding his car, rounding the cul-de-sac and speeding up. one deputy actually jumps out of the way to avoid getting hit. there he goes. violently collides with corp os brido and santos who were standing outside of the patrol car 10 feet away when they got hit. here's the sheriff. >> these deputies never had a chance. they didn't have a chance to get out of the way. our agency has been rocked t today. fortunately, we won't be planning a funeral regardless of how intended and determined this suspect was it take a deputy's life. -- to take a deputy's life. >> obviously, heartbroken and outraged by what has happened to his deputies. lives and this is what happened after they gave him multiple commands, but when he refused to comply with the commands, they used the tasers there, and then they arrest him. buzey is facing three counts of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer. governor ron desantis has commenteded on this on saying that we don't tolerate attacks on our law enforcement officers in florida, and the coward who brutally attacked these deputies will be punished. kate? >> thank you for going through that with delicacy. omar? >> that is disturbing video. how the newly attacked tax brackets could start changing your paychecks in january and secretary blinken's strongest words yet to protect civilians in gaza and the region ahead. i could use a little help. yeah, there's a lot of risk out there. huh ♪♪ hey, is this thing hard to learn? nah, it's easy. huh. you know, i think i'm going to ride it home. good thing you chose u.s. bank to manage and grow your money. with our 24/7 support at least you're not taking chances with your finances. yeah, i think i'm gonna need a chair. oh, ohhhh. a bit of good news this morning. i know. you can't believe it is coming from me. starting in january, folks could see more money in their paychecks. this is linked to the irs releasing new tax brackets to tamp down inflation. we have more details, vanessa. what are people going to see? >> it could be significant for a lot of americans. every year the irs readjusts the tax brackets, and they have widened all of them. take an example if you were making $45,000 in 2023, your tax bracket was 22%. this year, because of the widening of the brackets, you are only going to be taxed at 12%. so that is significant savings for everyday americans. now, one of the ways to save is through deductions that is not counted against your income and taxed against it. so for married couples, it is $1,500, and singles, it is $750, and head of the household it is up to $1,100 and those small amounts could push you into a lower tax bracket, and for folks who have chidren, if you qualify for the child tax bracket and if you have three or more children, it is increasing up to 7,830 up from 4,530, and so a few dollars to come back. this is applying tincome starting next year and going into effect when you file for your taxes in 2025, but something to look forward to. the irs is clearly taking into account that people are paying more every single day and they want to make sure that we are all taking a little bit more home in our paychecks, so good news starting in 2024. >> let's leave it there for the moment, and just, we can all take it together. thank you, vanessa. omar? >> kate, speaking of money. one week to avert a shutdown, and congress is out today. what the senior republicans are saying about a plan next.
