Republican president ial candidates will take to the debate stage for the first time next week. How theyre expected to take on each other and trump, even if hes not in the room. When incidences of brazen theft and robbery occur it shatters the feeling of safety. Los angeles is cracking down on the smashandgrabs. How theyre planning to put a stop to those heists. And a buck cant get you very much these days, but in one city it can get a house, but, of course, with a lot of strings attached. Former President Trump has under a week to turn himself in at the Fulton County jail here in georgia. He and 18 codefendants are charged with plotting to subvert the 2020 Election Results in georgia. Fulltown County District attorney fani willis has set august 25th as the deadline for his surrender. His arrest will likely look different than the arrests in three other cases. Formal Officials Say they will treat the defendant like any other tft. Paula reid looks at the complicated situation involved. Reporter good morning, amara and victor. The Da Fani Willis has given all defendants until next friday at noon to surrender. Right now its our understanding that donald trump may do his surrender toward the back half of the week. Now, heres with ease going to happen when he surrenders. Hes going to surrender to the Fulton County sheriffs office. It typically involves a mugshot and fingerprints. The mugshot is important here because remember at the federal level they did not take a mug shot of the former president. They said they use them for Law Enforcement if someone goes on the lam and trump is one of the most recognized people in the world. They dont need a mugshot for that. Its unclear if Fulton County is going to make that kind of exception. The other difference between state and federal appearances here is hes just going to be processed next week. Then a judge will schedule a court hearing. At the federal level, all of this will happen on the same day. The judge will have to schedule a hearing and the District Attorney has asked for the initial appearances of all of these defendants to happen the week of september 5th. Victor, actmara . Thank you. What do you anticipate is being negotiated right now between trumps attorneys and williss prosecutors, and how do we expect things to play out even though local Officials Say were going to treat trump like any other defendant, but that doesnt seem very likely considering hes a former president and theres a lot of Security Precautions surrounding him that well, one of the biggest things theyre going to have to deal with statutorily is if theres a significant risk that the accused will be intimidating, hell be staying in. I cannot imagine bail will not be set. Hes the most recognizable person probably in the United States if not elsewhere. I suspect theyre discussing dollars. Time is going to be an issue. Secret service is going to be an issue because that rice city stale or Rice Street Jail has a notorious history for being reviewed or investigated by the Department Of Justice for some issues at the facility. So as you know, you have the former white house Chief Of Staff mark meadows whos also charged in this whos trying to get the state case moved to the federal system. Many suspect trump and his lawyers will attempt to do the same. Do you expect that, and if so, how strong are his chances of him getting his case moved to the federal system . Theyre going to argue as mark meadows has. This is my job. I was president of the United States of america. I was following my rules and obligations i had as president of the United States of america. The problem will be among other things is thats not completely accurate. In other words, yes, you might have been the president and you might have been doing certain things as your job and as your role as president of the United States, but what you were doing here was fraud that goes well beyond the means of responsibilities. Id remind people the president s job is not to count votes, challenge votes in the state of georgia. Thats not his role. There are people who can do that. Thats certainly not him. Hes going to have some difficulties taking that case and bringing it to the federal courts. Now trump is being accuse of being the head of a criminal enterprise to overturn the 2020 Election Results here in georgia. Weve heard a lot about rico, which is at the heart of this indictment. Why rico . Does it have to do with the penalty and potentially flipping witnesses . All the things you mentioned are very valuable. Whats also important to know is when people hear the statute, they think Organized Crime. They think mafia or mob. Thats not the case. Its smaller or less frightened types of situations. This is not atypical when theres believed to be a structure and organization as likely as that term can be used or approved, people who have a criminal objective or goal and they all share in that goal and that criminal objective to overturn the criminal election in georgia. Specifically its a fiveyear minimum. Thats a significant and herb sentence. When you have people at the top such as President Trump with his 13 charges and people at the bottom, theyre exposed to the same five years, and if im one of those people charged, theres a strong likelihood i may say why should i . Hurricane hilary is marching toward baja california, and its packing a punch with wind speeds topping is 30 miles an hour. Hilary is still 236 miles offshore, but its already impacting rain. The worse is still to come. The officials warn the amount of flooding could be catastrophic. This morning Southern California is under its first ever Tropical Storm warning. If hilary makes landfall there it will become the first storm to do so in nearly 84 years. Cnn meteorologist Allison Chinchar is tracking the storm this morning. Theres history made even before potential landfall. What do we expect . We could expect even more history to be made especially in terms of historic rainfall. The winds are sustained at 130 miles an hour gusting up to 160. We do anticipate this storm is going to weaken because its going to head into Cooler Watersle thats not good for storms like this. By the time it makes its way into california, its go to be a Tropical Storm. As it weakens, the field of rain is still going to be very widespread. Youve got Tropical Storm warnings that include san diego and other interior portions of Southern California as whelp rain is going to be the biggest story here. Youre going to see the outer bands as early as this afternoon. Then by overnight tonight thats when you start to see the heavy rain begin to push in. It will last almost the entire day sunday before finally starting to let up by the time we get to the latter half of the day on monday. Because of that, youre talking almost 48 hours of rainfall here. We have a high risk for excessive rainfall and the flood threat here. That includes portions of Pam Dec Palm Desert and other areas. Most areas, its widespread, 2 to inches. Some could top out 8 to 10. Some of these areas, 2 to 4 inches is a years worth of rain. Youre talking a years worth of rain for some of the communities. Just about a day or two at most. Some of these communities may end up getting 4, 5, 6 inches. Now youre talking multiple years of rain in a few days. Its not just california. Youve got arizona, utah, i nevada, and other portions. One other thing. Weve got more systems were continuing to watch. Hilary is not the only one. Weve got four other systems were watching in the atlantic. These two Western Systems could likely have impacts as we go later into next week, so well keep a close eye. What do they do if they run out of money . Reporter victor, they simply dont want to get to that point. Theyre asking congress for more money. As you mentioned, its been a recordbreaking year and excessive weather disasters. That is something the agency has had to contend with, and fema officials tell me theyre growing concerned as the funds are expected to deplete by the mid to end of this month. The fema administrator has told white house reporters this week they anticipate there are enough funds for the initial response to maui but any delays could put recovery into next year. Take a listen. We have enough funding to support the ongoing effort. It would if we dont have additional funding, it would delay the Recovery Project into next year. Some of the other consequences to the delay is that they would not be able or they would be hindered in trying to deploy assets in people to different areas that may be experiencing or may experience a natural disaster. Take Hurricane Hilary for example, they can at least try to prepare for the recovery on the back end. It makes it all the more difficult. Now, the white house has been monitoring this, and they have requested 12 billion in additional funding, but thats a request thats part of a broader supplemental going to congress that already faces an uphill battle. And by the way, congress is still in recess. So all of these challenges still facing fema as it works to respond. We should also know in regards to maui and the president s trip there, i have met with officials who say theyve been meeting to come up with creative ways to bring about housing or making the energy grid more resilient. You know, i think this is an interesting question. I think its worth noting weve had two years of rapid inflation. People are still feeling that. They blame the president. So i think that that is to some degree why you havent seen these numbers rise higher. That said, we have seen Consumer Confidence bounce back in recent months. I think theres some hope for the Biden Administration that thats going to feed through in the economic approval ratings. We havent seen the full effects yet. Its interesting the people are more didnt about the economy or the Consumer Confidence is higher, but they sour on the handling of the economy by the president. Weve seen a really interesting split screen for consumers for a while now. If you ask them about their own economic prospects like are you going to get a job, get a raise, they feel really good about the job market and their chances but they feel bad about the economy overall. Its an unusual economic moment where we have a very, very strong job market. Inflation has come down dwight a bit, so you can see people start to feel better about the state of things just because theyre not watching the items in the Grocery Aisle tick up steadily that you cover the fed. Were a month out from today from the next one. Whats the expectation . I know theres more data to come over the next four weeks, but if were looking at another rate increase. Yeah. This is the several trilliondollar question at the moment. No one knows if were going to have another rate increase. Wall street is saying probably not. I think the assumption is that weve seen a lot of slowing of inflation and the fed is going to want to see how that plays out before putting any restraint on the economy, before hitting those brakes harder. But its still something officials are talking about. I think the economy has surprised them with how strong and resilient. Its surprised everybody. Nobody was pencilling in, gross tracking it at the level is currently. The Job Market Keeping Chugging along. In an environment like that, i think the question is can fed officials feel comfortable that inflation is going to slow down the whole way and theyre going to release data releases to figure it out and we could get a word from Jerome Powell whos going to give a big speech from jackson hole which is the feds conference this friday. Sanjay gupta breaks it down for us. First to get things straight, if a cancer is diagnosed before the age of 50, its considered an early onset diagnosis. What they found and this serves as a warning sign the number of diagnoses have been increasing over the last ten years or so. Let me show you the specific numbers here. If you go back to 2010, there were roughly 100 to 110 diagnoses made in the population of people, again, under the age of 50. Fast forward, thats been about a 3 up crease. That may not sound like a lot, but if you start to project that into the future, you start to see a number of Cancer Diagnoses in younger people. Overall in the country, theres maybe a million and a half diagnoses made every year and roughly 50 in the early young stainless. Its increasing and continue to increase unless somethings done about it. Most of the drive was among women and people in their 30s, a little bit more of the context there. If you look at the common cancers that were driving this increase, they were primarily breast cancer, colon cancer, and thyroid cancer. Why is this happening . Thats the big question. Its a point of debate in the cancer community, but it seems to be two major things. One is were better at finding the cancers earlier er. The screenings are more sensitive and we may be finding more cancers this way. Another big component seems to be our Overall Health, specifically things like obesity. Think about this, when we feed our bodies too much glow k glucose, were feeding not only our normal cells but cancer cells as well. Theyre getting a lot of energy from these calories that were taking in. Obesity, we associate with Heart Disease and diabetes, but we do have to think about this with regard to cancers as well especially in younger people. Getting screenings, thats important, you know, for both breast cancer, colon cancer starting around 45 if you have no increased risk. But, again, also thinking about your Overall Health and specifically things like obesity. The number f people who are obese, the percentage of people who are obese at this young age now is higher than its ever been, and thats probably driving what were seeing with cancer as well.
