a federal judge threatened, and specifically contact information for georgia grand jurors plastered throughout right-wing web sites. how donald trump's legal troubles are leading to further security issues, fear of violence. and heartbreaking accounts from hawaii, as wildfire victims are starting to find the remains of their family members. >> what he had seen was not just a body, but the body of a 15-year-old kid who had way more life ahead of him. plus new warnings on north korea possibly testing a missile capable of reaching the united states. i will ask john kirby about those plans, as most leaders most concerned from south korea and japan. ♪ welcome to "the lead." we're going to start with the justice lead, and the high price being paid for some individuals doing their civic duty. police are trying to figure out hout best to protection the grand jurors who earlier this week voted to indict donald trump and 18 other co-defendants. indictments in fulton county georgia, including the names of all of the jurors who served on the case. now those jurors' names, plus photographs, social media information, even some home addresses, not all of which are even necessarily the right ones, now all circulating on social media, with experts saying some anonymous users are calling for violence. paula reid starts off our coverage, also a federal judge in a separate trump case. >> reporter: tonight, georgia residents who served on the grand jury that indicted former president trump for trying to overturn the 2020 election are facing threats and getting doxed online. they were serving on that grand jury doing their civic duty, and now they've basically been putting on the x. >> reporter: even home addresses purporting to belong to the grand jurors are not circulating on far-right web sites lie forechan. their names were published on page 9 of the indictment, a public document, as is the practice in georgia. experts say -- >> this is really a quirk of law in the state of georgia that the names of grand jurors come out with the indictment. this is really the first time we've seen this kind of thing come out in a national case. >> what i'm going to do now -- >> reporter: cnn cannot independently verify the details, and it's unclear if the information circulating online is that of the actual grand jurors or just people with the same name. jen jordan testified in this case, and set says this my impede the ability to get a trial jury. >> everyone will know who they are. just to be able to sit a jury of people who would be even willing to put, you know, their lives on the line will be really, really difficult. it's not just the grand jury under threat. judge tanya chutkan received a threatening voicemail earlier this month. according to court documents, a texas woman called chutkan's chambers, left a message threatening to kill anyone who went after former president trump. they also allegedly threatened to kill sheila jackson lee as well as people in the lgbtq community. over the last week trump has repeatedly posted to social media, speaking directly to the fullen county grand jurors and judge chutkan, saying, will someone please tell the grand jury that i did not tamper with the election? and saying that chutkan obviously wants me behind bars, very biased and unfair. we have also learned that longtime ally and sometimes attorney rudy giuliani went down to florida to plead to help him with his legal debt. we're told trump offered some vague assurances he would help, but the only help from the pac. they paid off over $300,000 for one specific bill, but giuliani's attorney says he did not expect any more help on those debts. we look into the evolution of rudy giuliani. it's called "giuliani, what happened to america's mayor?" that's saturday night at 8:00 eastern only here on cnn. joining us is michael moore, former district attorney for the middle district of georgia. i want your reaction to the alleged personality information of some of these jurors being posted online. i understand when someone is indicted in georgia, the names of the grand jurors are included on that indictment. noel the sensitivity of this case, though, should more have been done to prevent something like this? >> well, it's a pleasure to be with you. i do think there could have been steps taken to ask the court to seal the indictment or do things like that. we do have a balancing of the public's right to know and certainly an accused's rights to know who sat on the grand jury. if you this i about it, it's important for an accused to know that, because they can determine whether or not a grand juror might have been related to one of the victims in the case or something. so there's a legitimate reason that lawyers and defendants need to know that, and that they have a right to look at it. certainly in this case i think there were things that could be done. judges, prosecutors, we expect this nonsense to happen. everyday laymen who serves for pennies a day, really, on a grand juror should not be subject to this. so, probably the best thing that can happen is to have some swift action to both protect those people if in fact those addresses are correct and the personal information is deemed to be correct, and then to also go after folks who may be sending messages or intending to do harm. it is public information that is accessible at the courthouse. the fact that the names are out there i don't think there will be much that can be done other than some protection. specific threats, voicemails, e-mails, those types of things certainly somebody sitting out in front of somebody's house in a car, they need to be addressed quickly by law enforcement to send a message it can't be tolerated. >> when the indictment was released, i was surprised to see the names of the grand jurors on there. i'm not as familiar with the georgia legal process as you are. are they -- i know there's a major gang trial going on right now in georgia. i believe you're still in jury selection, voir dire. are the names generally released like that? even if a gang member is on trial? >> generally the indictments have listed at the very front that the citizens of the state of georgia, county of fulton charge the accused, and it has the fact of every grand juror that serves. therapy name will be stricken through if they're not present, but otherwise they'll be -- again, there are reasons a defendant needs to know that. so that's important. in this case, and that may have been one of the reasons that it may have been more appropriately suited in federal court, but, you know, something should have been done, i believe. some consideration should have been given to protect them. that clearly was that done here. >> a source tells cnn that negotiations are still ongoing between trump's legal team and the fulton county district attorney's office. what details are they negotiating? >> there's been talk about whether or not there will be mug shots, photographs, financialer prints, all this kind of thing. there's a question of what location he should report to, whether it's the jail or some other location. there will have to be coordination clearly between -- i hope that this goes off sort of like just a puff of wind and nobody really knows about it. it's better for the secret service, ultimately for law enforcement, for the president to come in, be processed quickly, and then be shuttled out to an arraignment at a later date. but, you know, where we are now, i don't know. i expect there would be some effort to either make a statement about it one way or another by the former president, but we have to admit -- and i think that's one of the frustrating things about this case. we all want to say he'll be treated like everybody else. the fact is it's a former president. we have to make some considerations and concessions. >> especially in terms of his concern and safety which he's entitled to. michael moore, thank you so much. i want to bring in jeulia kayye. when this threat against federal judge chutkan, do you think there's enough security measures in place to protect federal judges? >> yes. it's never enough, because they obviously consider themselves private citizens. in the old world when no one knew a judges name and they weren't attacked by a former president. there's things that the judge says, i'm married to a judge that would know what to do. don't put your kids on social media, don't put things on social media to give your existence -- that gives the kids' existence in real time. it's not just the judges, but the entire family and others related to the judges that are at risk. this is new in terms of the threat environment, because the judges are being specifically mentioned by the former president in these cases. >> the atlanta police department says that its members are working on helping the fulton county sheriff with any potential safety and security issues for the grand jurors in that case. do you do you go about protecting these people, what threats are real and what is just hot air? >> you do two things. one is defense. the grand jurors now snead to know this is circulating on these horrible web sites. they don't know what the threat environment is, and then, you know, tell them to be vigilant and provide them with the kind of security they may need, at least for the time being. some of them may be picked out based on race, so, you know, if all the african american grand jurors are picked out, you want to give them specific authority. then you go on offense. every single one of these people that is out there online doing whatever, threatening -- not just words, but threatening individuals or the grand jury as a whole is committing a federal crime, or at least there is evidence to suggest that they want to undermine the judicial system, and that is where it's going to take prosecutors and investigators to investigate them, let them know there's no goofing around anymore. we know what the threat environment could be for these grand jurors. i have to say one thing about georgia. this is not a statute that requires it. this is just case law and supreme court case law, so there might -- this is something that georgia officials are going to have to deal with in terms of not just the protection of these grand jurors, that may be too late, but of course the jurors coming up. i'm all for transparency, i'm all for public information, but as michael was saying, these are ordinary citizens doing their civic duty. they didn't sign up for this. so we need to take it seriously. juliette kayyem, thank you so much. coming up, the horror playing out in hawaii. some people are finding everything gone. others trying to cope with the reality of loved ones lost. some of their heart-wrenching stories are next. and is the looming factors that could make gas prices worse. and the disturbing activity recently directed as religious institutions, who might be behind it. all learning to save andnd spend their money with chase. the chef's cooking up firsts with her n new debit card. hungry?
