A new deadline in the federal prosecution of former President Trump expires in hours, and this as intrigue in georgia grows. The grand jury that handed up the indictment against him are back at it meeting in washington, d. C. , in the federal courthouse, and this as Special Counsel jack smith and the Trump Legal Team have a 3 00 p. M. Deadline following the election of the subversion case, and this is as the trumps team wants looser rules about what evidence he can share publicly before the trial. And trump says that the prosecutor is on a Political Campaign to restrict his first right. And the judge wants this hearing scheduled before the end of day friday. All of this is coming as cnn has learned that this man, trump ally, bernie keric has met with jack smiths team, and the former new york commissioner is a long time ally with Rudy Giuliani and coordinated with him post election, and we have Jessica Schneider on this, and pick where you want to start, but what should we expect of this deadline today. Yes, omar, the judge here, she has been aggressive and she wants to settle the issues over this proposed protective order, and she does want this hearing by the end of the week, and what she is telling trumps team, and counsel is that they need to submit their availability before that hearing by 3 00 today, and we have seen the back and forth in Court Filings around Donald Trumps team is trying to subvert his First Amendment rights by in this protective order restricting what he can disclose publicly once he has received that evidence in the case. The counsels team has fired back and saying that allowing trump to share what he gets before trial will damage the case, and the goal of the defendants proposed protective order pretrial publicity is antithetical to the justice, and so trump wants to use everything that he might get and all of the evidence handed over to drum up the supporters on social media and the Campaign Trail. So this is continuing to be a fight, omar that the judge is determined to put to rest by the the end of this week, and a hearing will happen before the close of day friday, and then at that point, it will be set in stone once she decides what from this proposed protective order will go into effect, and it is going to be determined what donald trump can and cannot share with his followers in the Social Media Site Truth social. And so now, in the Fulton County grand jury into the Election Returns overturn in Fulton County, georgia, Lieutenant Governor duncan says he will testify. Yes, the Lieutenant Governor saying he is willing to comply with the subpoena he received to supply testimony before the grand jury who we assume is going to be hearing the case before former President Donald Trump and his many allies, but listen to what jeff duncan said on cnn yesterday about why he believes it is important to comply with the subpoena. Yeah, ill be there to answer the facts as i know them to continue the process to discover what actually happened in the post election period of time and we cannot repeat it asnd i done it happen in My Home State Ofda Ga and a lot peoples lives have been uprooted and soiled. We dont know that the District Attorney is going to necessarily call all of the witnesses that she has called to provide testimony, but she has to craft a narrative around what donald trump and his allies were trying to do around the election, but geoff duncan has been critical of Donald Trumps efforts to overturn the election, and it is clear that a number of presentations that went around were not sanctioned by him even though he was the Senate President at the time. So, she has witnesses on deck, and that is interesting to me, and other subpoenas to other people as well, because it indicates that they have maybe some work to do before the indictment comes, and yet the roads are blocked outside of the courthouse already, and it makes one wonder, is this going to happen, and if so, when . Well, the interesting thing about these witnesses, and again, geoff duncan has been subpoenaed, and jen jordan who is a former Democratic State senator, and george chiti who is a independent journalist and all who have testified before a grand jury have spent months and months of testifying and so there is a sense of what these folks will say if they are asked questions, and so what appears to be happening is that the District Attorney is going to be happening is if we make this presentation before a grand jury what kind of voices can we use to build this narrative around what was happening whether it is a crazy presentations before the state lawmakers and whether it was the assembling of the fake electors or the republican fake electors in georgia and the witnesses can kind of speak to that. Again, the question is timing. There are grand jurors who meet twice in Fulton County, monday and tuesday, and the grand jury hears cases of murder and robbery yesterday. So it is unlikely to see the indictment today. We expect the presentation to take two days, and it could be earliest thursday this week, but possibly next week, john. And the work laid out before them is so interesting. Thank you for explaining it very well, sara murray. And also to talk about this is the host of the its complicated podcast, and sara murray knows the ins and outs of this investigation in georgia really better than anybody. And people have been on standby for quite some time waiting for the indictments to come down from the georgia investigation, and as sara was laying out, the former Lieutenant Governor geoff duncan is handed a subpoena to testify, and how do you see this as the court is kind of on lockdown . As sara has pointed out the witnesses have testified before of a special grand jury and what we are seeing right now is the finishing touches put on the case by fani willis and her team. So ultimately, what they are doing is to considering, hey, any issues or additional questions that we need to ask, and things that we missed, and maybe they are trying to add some additional testimony that we didnt get out earlier, and all signs are pointing to august being the month that this is going to be coming down, and as sara noted that extraordinary measures that Willis Office is going to point to security and this really being the indictment. And then on the Special Counsel case, trumps team responded overnight of the protective order that the prosecutors asked for the limit what trump essentially can share publicly in terms of evidence as they head up to trial, and one of the things that trumps team said in pushing back or pushing for less restrictions th the prosecution said, this is what they saihe filing in a trial about First Amendment rights, the government seeks to limit First Amendment right, and worse, it does so against the administrations primary political opponent in an election season in which the election prominent candidates have campaigned on the indictments and proliferation indictments. What do you think of this . It is a lot of flash and not much substance, kate. It is not a disagreement of the scope of the protective order. Both say they should be having a protective order. Both sides in civil and criminal case, and very narrow disagreement, and there is this wrapping around it all of this talk of the First Amendment and theres the included the photo of biden in the mug of the filing, and all of it seems to be more for show and all of us to discuss in the media rather than anything with a lot of substance and not much meat in the bun so to speak. Republican president ial candidate and former federal prosecutor Chris Christie was on cnn and talking to Anderson Cooper and he said very clearly in his view that mark meadows is a cooperating witness in this case, and first, amongst other reasons, because he is barely mentioned in the indictment. And listen to how Chris Christie talked about it, renato. It could be the worst testimony for him outside of the family members, because mark meadows was with him constantly. And involved in all of it in georgia, the electors. He was a very involved Chief Of Staff in my experience. He made sure that he was in every meeting and every conversation. And we remember, there are hundreds of Text Messages that he turned over to the Special Counsel that he kept. Many have speculated the same that mark meadows is very conspicuously not mentioned in indictment considering his role in the Trump Administration and do you agree with Chris Christie . Yeah, Chris Christie is a pretty savvy and experienced former federal prosecutor himself, and he has good instincts here, and ultimately the mark meadows hired a very, very good defense attorney, and they pursued a very savvy strategy to keep him out of the january 6th hearing, and ultimately, it sure looks like jack smith is making a decision that mark meadows is a witness and not a coconspirator in his mind. And if that is where he has put him, he may not formally be a flipper in some sense, but he may be providing testimony that supports Text Messages to help fill in blanks that helps jack smith prove his case. Omar, it is another day, and another shakeup in the ron desantis campaign, and last month, it was rank and file members where he made deep cuts to the staff, and now at the top, and his manager who led the Desantis Operation going back to the Reelection Campaign last year is out as Campaign Manager, and this a move that some behind the scenes have been pushing for, for weeks. You been hearing the rumblings of all of the campaigns and the financing and messaging, and they saw it as a reflection of the Campaign Manager who does not bring a lot of experience to the job, but trusted in desantis circles. So now, desantis is bringing in the decision to change gears and bringing in James Orthomeyer who bringing in more ideological alignment with desantis to the job. He seen as enforcer of desantis agenda in the legislature, and all of the cultural battles that he has been wading, but he also does not bring a ton of experience to the job like his predecessor, and he does not have a lot of seasoning running president ial campaigns, and so they are bringing in other people to help on that front, but this is a concern that people who are supporting desantis, donors and otherwise have been concerned for weeks. We are going into almost a full month of stories and headlines about the shakeup of the ron desantis campaign. And the concern is that this change being made now a month after we saw the initial reports of changes to the campaign, it is just adding more and more bad headlines at a time when they need to change the narrative and talk about what Governor Desantis is going to do for the country and how he is going to beat President Trump, and here we are in august talking about the massive changes to the campaign, once again, omar.
