2319 text messages that mark meadows voluntarily handed over to the committee. the messages really give an extraordinary glimpse at how meadows was doing trump's bidding. how they were trying to overturn the election when they knew that there was no widespread election fraud. remember on december 1st, their own attorney general bill bar said there was no evidence of election fraud. but this shows what they're doing and saying behind the scenes in realtime. even when they know otherwise. let me just tell you the text messages include messages from trump's family, donald trump junior, ivanka trump, jared kushner, as well as white house and campaign officials. rudy giuliani, hosts from the fox media. lots of gop activists. rally organizers and even people like my pillow ceo, mike lind eln. there were text messages with 40 current members of congress including ted cruz, representatives moe brooks, jim jordan, and marjorie taylor greene. >> it's extensive, and one of the many bits of information this reveals and underscores, is that no matter what many of those people are saying now in the moment, on january 6th, there were desperate pleas by people who are very mump trump supporters -- much trump supporters for help. >> there are some surprises. what do we already know? we know that people on january 6th were reaching out to meadows trying to get then president trump to do something. what you see in the logs is that meadows is flooded with messages. and here's a surprise. one of the first members of congress according to the log to reach out to mark meadows is none other than marjorie taylor greene who is a staunch trump supporter, and we're going to start with that one. she says, quote, mark, i was just told there is an active shooter on the first floor of the capitol. please tell the president to calm people. this isn't the way to solve anything. now, we're going to hear more from her later. she changes her tune the next day, but that day she's worried. and concerned about what's going on. also, you hear from mulvaney, former acting chief of staff. quote, mark, he needs to stop this now. can i do anything to help? representative william timmens, the president needs to stop this asap. and from reince priebus, former chief of staff, rnc chairman, all capital letters, tell them to go home, three exclamation points. we've also seen a couple texts before from donald trump junior. now we have the full picture. so in the past, we know that he had texted meadows. he's got to con tem this. you -- condemn this. meadows responds, i'm pushing it hard. i agree. donald trump junior, this is the part that's new. this is one you go to the mattresses on. they will try to f his entire legacy on this if it gets worse. these texts really underscore what the committee has been talking about, which is what was donald trump not doing for these hours, these 187 minutes, when his staurchnchest supporters an his own family are trying to get him to stop the violence. >> there's so many threads. first, donald trump junior quoting the god father is rich. but all these people were doing and saying the right things, make it stop. only after, they changed their tune to say things that are in denial of what happened. this is all january 6th. >> right. >> but you've also obtained texts going back to election day. tell us what you've learned about what mark meadows was hearing when it came to the conspiracy theories and the distorted reasoning. >> right. one of the interesting frequent exchanges is a group text of the inner circle. this is ivanka trump, hope hicks, jason miller, bill step yan, jared kushner. on november 5th th, ivanka trump texts meadows and the group. quote, you are all warriors, capital letters, of epic proportions. keep the faith on the fight. then on november 7th, just hours before the election is called, the theories about how to fight are already coming in. trump's former energy secretary rick perry, former governor of texas, texts meadows, quote, we have the data-driven program that can clearly show where the fraud was committed. this is the silver bullet. so you see that starting right away. just for the record, previously we've reported at cnn another rick perry text. he denied it. it was his phone. cnn has confirmed from multiple sources, friends and colleagues of his, that that is his phone number these texts were coming from. in fact, these texts on the meadows log show he signed his name and telephone number at the end of the text. just for some context about mark meadows and his role for the most part, his replies are short. sometimes he does not reply at all. we do not know whether that's because parts of these were deleted or because redacted because he made claims of privilege. but i will say this from 30,000 feet. when you look at these messages, if this is what meadows turned over willingly to the january 6th committee, you have to wonder what's in the rest of the documents, because these are so damning. >> they certainly are. rick perry signing his name on the texts and his phone number is interesting also. the other thing we should just note, you mentioned so importantly that open question of what trump is doing all this time. he doesn't -- he -- the former president, still to this day, as far as we know, does not text. so all of these people were getting to mark meadows, including donald trump's own son, because they knew that was the only way to reach him. to reach the president. >> right. so there are no donald trump president texts here. it's also interesting some other people who are not here, but remember, this is what the committee has obtained, not everything. meadows is fighting. he's withholding things. so i think one of the interesting things has to do with the fact that someone like rathensberger, the secretary of state of ja ja does not respond. meadows reaches out. no answer. >> that's interesting. a good tease. we're going to talk a lot more about that later in the show. as always, fantastic reporting. jam jamie, thank you. >> we are going to talk about that. also a new exchange with mark meadows and sean hannity and the texts that he, mark meadows, sent to the georgia secretary of state. plus coming up, new russian attacks on five train stations in central and western ukraine hours after two of america's top officials visit kyiv. do you think any of us will look back in our lives, and regret the things we didn't buy? >> reporter: a few significant things. first, the u.s. diplomats going back into ukraine is quite noteworthy. the secretary of state blinken told the ukrainians that was going to begin this week, and of course, it underscores the u.s. commitment to ukraine. showing solidarity. showing support, maintaining strong diplomacy with the country. now, these diplomats are going to be going into ukraine for day trips into lviv, a city on the western side of ukraine. they are not going to be resuming operations at the u.s. embassy in kyiv at this time. secretary blinken said that is something that is being looked at. it will probably take a few weeks for them to make that determination, but they are going to be resuming going into ukraine at least during the days. and when it comes to the biden administration and how they view this war at this moment in time, secretary austin said that the united states hopes that russia will be weakened to the degree that it can't carry out this type of invasion into ukraine after this war has concluded. and, of course, we have heard from biden administration officials that they believe ukraine must win, that russia is losing at this point they are failing in their objective to take over the entire country, but it is significant that secretary austin said the united states wants to see russia weakened, essentially so it doesn't have the military capability to invade other european countries. and that appears to have longer-term implications for russia that the united states would like to see outside the c confines of just the ukraine war. >> yeah. kylie, and it's noteworthy that the president did finally name a u.s. ambassador to ukraine. i spoke with victoria, a congresswoman, who grew up who was from ukraine who was pushing for this administration to be more aggressive in returning its diplomatic presence, even more aggressively than what we've heard today. thank you so much for that report. i want to go now to lviv. cnn's scott mclain. what do we know about the attacks on rail stations? >> dana, the timing here is pretty interesting considering that this u.s. delegation of the secretary of state and the defense secretary had just left ukraine, and arrived on safe nato ground early this morning. and then a few hours later the air raid sirens sounded in lviv. not long after that we heard that within the space of one hour, five different pieces of railway infrastructure scattered around the country were hit by these russian missile strikes. now, what the russian goal of these was, i don't know. but it appears when you look at the railway mappen, that all of these strikes were targeted at junctions. at choke points. so it is possible that the russians were trying to hamper or to cut off links between east and west in ukraine, and we know that the railway is such a vital part of this country. not only to get supplies in and out, but also to get people out of some of the most dangerous parts of the country. the governor said there were two strikes. five people were killed. 18 people were wounded. i went out about an hour from here to the furthest western strike. and it was near a set of train tracks. the governor released a video showing that an electrical substation which appeared to power the local station or the trains in that area, was hit. we weren't allowed to get that close on the ground, but what we were able to see is a remnants of russian rockets that had fallen out of the sky. twisted bits of charred and partially melted metal were sort of littering the ground everywhere. now, what they did not see is a large crater, and so they think that that was one of the missiles that was actually struck down before it hit its target. one other thing to mention, that is horenka. this is new drone video from this suburb of kyiv. it's the western suburb of kyiv. bucha, horenka, areas the russians were fighting hard for, shelled heavily, and from the drone footage, you can see the damage left behind. some areas look like they are flattened. there's extensive building, twisted metal on all the buildings. now they're going through, trying to recover bodies, trying to restore infrastructure, trying to find unexploited ordinance or mines that may be still in that area. >> yes. scott, the russian cruelty clearly knows no bounds. not just with the drone footage, but what you started to report on, those rail strikes and these are the means through this regular average citizens are trying to get out of that war torn country. thank you for that report. appreciate it. coming up, more details on our cnn exclusive including the never before seen text messages between mark meadows and fox's sean hannity. everybody be cool,? that's the ultimate in comp complicity? >> the reason mark meadows is to important to the january 6th investigation, he is the nexus between all the different factions of republicans and conservative-leaning people that wanted to prevent the certification of the election results. he had a foot in congress as a former member of congress. he had a foot in the campaign, directly involved in talking to bill and other people involved in the campaign. jason miller. of course, he was a white house chief of staff. so that meant a direct line to the president, and to members of his family and getting back to your point about these members of congress that were actively involved in this, and to your point, mj, senator mike lee was for it until he was against it, up until the very end, was pushing this idea that there was a way to prevent the certification of the election. it didn't end up happening, but that is in large part why so muching onner was on display on january 6th. because people believed it could happen. >> and you missed one group of people, conservative talk show hosts on another network, sean hannity. >> right. sean hannity is actually one of the people meadows texts with the most. there are more than 80 text exchanges. it starts right on election day. what's interesting is that sean hannity both seems to give advice. now, he's a well-known friend of the president, but he also seems to take some direction from meadows. this is on election day. sean hannity, hey, north carolina going to be okay. meadows, stress every vote matters. get out and vote on radio. hannity has a radio show. hannity replies, yes, sir, on it. any place in particular we need a push? this idea that the text messages appear to act as an echo chamber of forming trump's false claims that the election was stolen. i just think that someone like mark meadows was being constantly inundated as the text messages show, even when there were doubts about -- he's getting bombarded over and over again by people around the president. >> what's interesting about that, even though he seems to be kind to have repository for all the crazy ideas that everyone in the conservative eco sphere had as it related to this, at no point does he push back and say this is a bad idea. he talks about it maybe from a strategy standpoint. i don't know if that's the best course of action that we should take. but at no point was meadows stand up as a leader, as one of the most powerful people in the country at that time and say no, there's no there, there, we need to move on. we need to transition and figure out the next steps. he's complicit in all of this from the start. >> fantastic reporting in fact it feels like we're on the tip of the iceberg. there's so much more to look at and go through which i know you've done already, but we'll hear more about it later. thanks to both of you for your excellent reporting. and warsaw's mayor is warning his city is at capacity as it braces for another influx of ukrainian refugees. he's in washington asking for help, and he's going to be right here onset joining me live, next. he's finding some investment ideas with merrill. eyes on the ball baby. digital tools so impressive, you just can't stop. what would you like the power r to do? >> that's a good question. maybe there will be a need to build a reception center here or there, and we need to be prepared for that. also we granted ukrainians free access to our education, health care, social services. so we need help there. for example, we can hire ukrainian teachers to help us in the schools. we've enrolled already almost 20,000 kids in warsaw schools, but there are 120,000 kids in warsaw just from among the refugees. so we need help here as well. for example, we're doing an online teaching course for them to follow the ukraine curriculum, and we're teaching them polish. we need it support and computers. those are the specific things we're going to talk about. how to organize specific help for refugees and for cities such as warsaw which is taking most of the responsibility during the current crisis. >> it has been remarkable to see the generosity of the polish people and of the government toward the ukrainian refugees. but your country hasn't always been that welcoming. it was just at the end of last year, there was a different set of refugees, mostly middle eastern refugees, coming, trying to come to poland over the belarus border, and the government, the central government, really pushed them back. they responded by deploying water cannons, tear gas, even beginning to build a wall. why is this different? why are the ukrainian refugees different from those of middle eastern? >> well, things need to be said. i'm representing the opposition. we wanted to help refugees in 2015 and 2016. i was responsible for that because i was minister of european integration, but the new government, the conservative party government, they decided not to let anyone cross a polish border, and they were trying a populous game against refugees. when it comes to the recent crisis, putin and lukashenko wanted to destabilize europe by inviting refugees to come over the border. i don't condone with the government was doing with them. here the situation is completely different. every pole knows ukrainians are fighting for our freedom as well. there is of course also there is politically incorrect, but it needs to be said. there is a culture affinity. these guys are just like us. of course, there's an instinct of a heart to help them out. and the situation is clear. there's like david and goliath, like this goodness fighting an ultimate evil. everyone wants to help. at the end of the day, we need to share the responsibility. we cannot do it on our own. that's why it's important to talk to the american public and explain how the situations are on the ground, how the situations on the ground and tell our friends how they can help us out and how they can ultimately help ukraine. >> so it sounds like you're saying the u.s. government, ngo, national organizations, people are saying how can i help, and that's the answer. and i cwill say i got to witnes what you did in the social services, especially mental health. it's really frnl. >> it's very important. >> mr. mayor, thank you very much for coming in. >> thank you for having me. ahead, a stunning new assessment from the british defense secretary about russia's military forces in ukraine. so you only pay for whatchya... line? >> reporter: the judge just said the former president, president trump, is held in civil contempt and that he will be fined $10,000 a day until he cures this contempt. this all relates to a civil subpoena that the new york attorney general's office had sent to him in december. they say he hasn't complied with it at all. that he has produced zero documents relating to this subpoena. which they have said is impossible since he was the head of that organization. they said they need the records to complete their investigation and they're coming up on a deadline where they say they could be forced to take an enforcement action because of this looming deadline. the judge saying here, he says, mr. trump, i know you take your business seriously. and i take mine seriously. and that's when he said he would hold him in contempt. trump's attorneys have said they did comply with the subpoena. that they have no documents. that they have searched trump's file cabinets. that his attorney told the judge she flew down to mar-a-lago, questioned the president about the subpoena, went through item by item asking if he had anything related to the subpoena which he said he didn't. the judge said that was insufficient for her to say that today in court but not under oath in any court filings. so he left it open for her to correct this. or to even have the former president file an affidavit and say under oath that he has no documents that relate to this subpoena. >> k cara, thank you for that reporting. appreciate it. now back to what's happening in ukraine. 15,000 russian military personnel were killed in ukraine over the past two months. that's according to the british defense secretary. and that's more than double the number of american military death tolls in both iraq and afghanistan since 2001. just to put the figure in context. i want to go to foreigner assistance secretary of state under president george w. bush, mark kimmet. thank you so much, general. let's talk about what happened over the weekend. secretary of defense lloyd austin told reporters we want to curb russian military capabilities. listen to that. >> we want to see russia weakened to the degree that it can't do the kinds of things that it has done in invading ukraine. so it has already lost a lot of military capability and a lot of its troops, quite frankly. and we want to see them not have the capability to very quickly reproduce that capability. >> how should we interpret that statement? >> well, i think that secretary austin doesn't need any 13wer7ation when he says that. i find the statement a little bit worry some, because it gives the impression that we are not supported the territorial defense of ukraine but effectively fighting russia in a war by proxy through ukraine n. >> that's really interesting, because that was one of the things i was wondering how you read it specifically, because it's not just about diplomacy or military support. it's also about optics and posturing, and he clearly had that prepared. you've been in dicey situations, in iraq where political messaging is key. do you think that that was his goal, as you said, or do you think that maybe that's not really what he meant to telegraph, that all the sudden ukraine is a proxy for the u.s. to get to russia? >> well, i think we've gone out of our way not to provoke russia. we haven't set up a no-fly zone. we haven't provided high-tech equipment that we could. we haven't put american troops on the ground inside of ukraine. i think that's been done intentionally, not to send any provocative justification to president putin, and i'm afraid this statement could be interpreted as just that. >> and what would the potential ramifications of that be, that if you say it's provocative, particularly from a defense department that has been so careful not to do anything that's quote, unquote,-esque la tory? >> yeah. i agree, and there was a report this morning this morning that said we're intentionally not sanctioning putin's girlfriend, because it would be seen as provocative, and now this statement comes out. i think it just gives more justification to putin in his narrative with his people as to why we need to continue this war. and we want to be ending this war, not continuing this war, to reduce his military capability. >> this morning we saw russia attack five railway stations in the west and in central ukraine. first, tactically, what's the strategy, and secondly, do you think putin potentially deliberately ordered the strikes as austin and blinken were wrapping up their trip? >> i don't know if it was meant to send a message to secretaries austin and blinken, but it's a logical military tactic to go against the logistics hubs to slow down the weapons and equipment that's coming in from the west. so i don't see anything particularly illogical about it. i see something particularly horrible about it, because those same railway stations are being used to move refugees out as well as weapons in. >> yeah. and we have about 15 seconds here. if you can just talk quickly about what those railways are used to bring in to ukraine. >> well, simply we're talking about bringing in 90 halitzer. they are difficult to bring in by air. they're hard to drive across miles of open road. the quickest way to get them to the battlefield is by rail. >> that makes sense. thank you so much. i appreciate it. and thank you for joining "police d "inside politics". ana cabrera picks up our coverage after a quick b break. >> man: looks great. >> tech: that's servrvice on yor time. schedule now. >> siningers: ♪ safelite repai, safelite replace. ♪ ( ♪ ) ( ♪ ) ( ♪ ) throughout history i've observed markets shaped by the intentional and unforeseeable. for investors who can navigate this landscape, leveraging gold, a strategic and sustainable asset... the path is gilded with the potential for rich returns. “few of us will ever dive so deep into our cars, but those who do venture down into the nuts and bolts...” “you have to give all of yourself when you do something, and that's when you do your best.” for the best audio entertainment and storytelling. audible. do you think any of us will look back in our lives, and regret the things we didn't buy?
