What is your reaction to hearing the Text Messages, Information Being received by meadows . Good morning, brianna. Thank you for having me on. Initially, i was shocked, disappointed with what i was hearing in the committee. We were being tweeted out to mark meadows in realtime. It was disappointing and a little hard to hear because it brought back some of the memories of that day. In what did it bring back . You know, just when they were talking about how bad it was, the Arms Standoff at the house door. Just the memories of how bad it was that day. And going through our mind like when is this going to end and how is it going to end. Will we ever get some help up here. Listening to some Police Officers who have been through what you have been through, the insult to injury is reading those texts, which were very real. That was what people were thinking at the time. And then hearing some of those same people, for instance, fox primetime hosts, who were talking to mark meadows, urging him to take action and then later, you know, acting like this wasnt such a big deal, or even trying to cover up what their texts were about. Whats your reaction to that . You know, thats its kind of mind blowing, but it is not really surprising what people do Behind Closed Doors and they didnt think the messages would ever get exposed. And now they are remaining mum on them or are just upset because their information was leaked out or whatever. The truth always comes out. And im remaining patient with the committee doing their job and more and more truth about that day will come out. Just the truth. Thats all i care about, what really happened. But it is infuriating to say the least to see that the people who are publicly down playing it were behind the scenes panicking about how bad it was because they knew how bad it was. Some of them turned around and gave you and your colleagues awards, fake super la active awards for acting when you testified. What would you say to them now . I thought about it what my response to that was going to be. I cant believe myself that im actually going to Take The High Road here and whatever. The truth speaks for itself. And you can double, triple down, whatever number theyre on now. Just let them do what they do. The truth is coming out and people are seeing them for exactly that they are, fearmongerers and saying whatever they need to say to keep their audience entertained, i guess. What surprised you, harry, about what you heard . Thats the thing, i really wasnt surprised. I guess i try to be, like, fact based. I had my suspicions, but the texts just confirmed what i thought, that you guys are lying and you knew how bad it really was. What is your hope now . What is your hope moving forward with what this means for this investigation . Just the committee to do their job. I try to stay out of them doing their jobs. Like i said, im not not only am i a Police Officer, im a person who has a vote, an opinion. And i try to keep that out of the public a little bit. You know, my bias. However, im going to let them continue to do their job, and ill respond to the facts. And the facts, those Text Messages exist just show how bad it was that day and that the people there who publicly said it wasnt that bad, they knew privately how bad it really was. I just am hopeful that the facts continue to come out and the entire truth about that day is m made public. A rioter who assaulted an officer is now pleading for mercy before a judge because his sentencing is upon him. He said he is sorry that he believed trumps lies even though just weeks ago he was defending what he did. Whats your message to him . I dont have one. People who are found guilty in the Justice System needs to pay the price. Thats all ive got. At this moment im not about Offering Mercy or leniency. Im not in that position. Maybe ill get there. But now im not. And the people responsible need to pay. I wonder, harry, as you look at the sentences youre seeing being handed down to some of the people that you were squared off against that day but then the realization that trump may not face accountability for this. Its entirely possible that he runs for president again. What do you think about that disparity . You know, one of the main things that i really wanted to see when i started and seeking justice and accountability is that it be investigated. There is no doubt that the criminal Justice System has a lot of improvement that it needs. However, if they find that if they investigate it thoroughly and they find out that the people at the top, not necessarily the former president but anybody else may have said some things they shouldnt have said but wasnt criminally responsible, then i can accept that. I wont like it, but thats the law and the rule of the land. However, i could not accept the fact that they didnt even investigate it. I just ill cross that bridge when i get to it. Im just glad theyre taking a look at it and exploring the facts about what happened that day. Whats itlike to defend lawmakers day in and day out after we learn about their involvement and their texts . Do you trust them . The thing about being a Police Officer is it isnt necessarily about excuse me. A capitol Police Officer, it isnt about the person. It is about the seat. And thats whats important. You defend that seat. You defend democracy. And whoever is in that seat, it will change. Its been a different person. It will be a different person. That doesnt matter. That seat is important. Along those lines, what i truly did not expect was the reaction to Senate Minority leader Mitch Mcconnell to all of these revelations yesterday. I want to play that for you. I do think were all watching, as you are, what is unfolding on the house side. And it will be interesting to reveal all the participants who were involved. It will be interesting to reveal all the participants who were involved . That sounds like as close as youre going to felt to Mitch Mcconnell saying he supports the January 6th Committee and giving his approval of what theyre doing as though this had bipartisan support from the beginning. I want to take another bite at that. Mitch mcconnell, you and i know, is more than willing to say nothing at any time or dodge any question on earth. But he leans in there and said im interested to learn something here. Look, on one level its not too little too late. When the Minority Leader of the United States senate and by the way, he is minority by not that many votes, essentially is affirming the work. What he is doing is he is affirm approximating the work of the January 6th Committee. I mean, it wasnt that long ago that he did not support the January 6th Committee. Lets remember there is a reason it didnt go anywhere in the United States senate, and that is because of Mitch Mcconnell. Yeah. That said, i think it is enormously important that he is gently saying what they are producing is very important for the country because it does it will help potentially, if he stays the course, mitigate the upper on the right to say this is valid on the committee and partisan action. Mitch mcconnell voted against conviction for the second impeachment. He stood in the way of the Bipartisan Commission to investigate january 6th. But that same guy is saying its not nothing. There is stuff coming out. For any people who is saying this is nothing, Mitch Mcconnell doesnt agree. You said he did all the things to block the ultimate accountability for trump even as his wife had resigned from trumps cabinet because of january 6th. So Mitch Mcconnell has been on both sides of the argument here. But ill take it. Ill take it. We do need reliable accounting of what happened from january 6th. If he is willing to say he is watching closely, it helps. You know who else may be surprised . Donald trump. Cnn has reporting that trump is annoyed with meadows and was blindsided by his book and the materials he handed over. He writes a book where he makes all kinds of revelations and also hands over all kinds of documents and trump is surprised. Apparently mark meadows is surprised that trump was upset by it. This is a man who demands ultimate loyalty from everyone. Nobody knows that more than mark meadows, who sat by his side throughout january 6th. One thing we dont know is whether mark meadows took to heart the pleas from Donald Trumps son, laura ingraham, sean hannity and tried to make the case for trump. There is still a lot we need to learn about mark meadows. Why would he be surprised that donald trump is displeased . I wonder what meadows thought was going to happen . I dont see a Clear Strategy here . What did he think was going to happen when he wrote this stuff in the book, and turned this stuff over to the committee . I think in mark meadows, what we have seen throughout his course of his service to the country, has been kowtowed. We are seeing the same flailing in the wind here. You say principle here. But was asked about former Vice President mike pence. This is what trump had to say about mike pence. I think mike has been very badly hurt biff what took place with respect to january 6th. I think hes been mortgagely wounded, frankly. Because i see the reaction hes getting from people. Trump says pence has been mortgagely wounded by following the constitution. After signs to hang mike pence were all over the capitol, saying mortally wounded is not a coincidence but i think is enormously important to just remind ourselves that for as much as people on the left and on the right even may have been disa Incident Poed disappoid is because mike pence upheld the electoral count act by proceeding forth with the counting of the pal lots. I think what pediatricians are seeing and Mental Health professionals, teachers across the country are children are really struggling. This is something we saw even before the pandemic, increased rates of Mental Health concerns. The past two years it has gotten so much more challenging. They are struggling from grief and loss. Many have lost caregivers or people close to them. Increased use of social media has had an impact. Really across the board its been a challenging time and important to make sure we are taking care of our young people. Dr. Beers, how do you balance this as the United States could be approaching a new Covid Wave Heading into december and january . How do you balance clear Mental Health challenges, some of which have come from the reasonable restrictions that are in place but going into another wave. Is it possible this time you back off some of the restrictions because you have seen the Mental Health consequences . Its a really important question. It is important for children and adolescents to have Peer Interactions and to be able to participate in their, you know, day to day structured activities. So i think one important thing is when we are thinking about these Public Health precautions, how do we set them up in a way that prioritizes making sure our young people get to do the things, even if as adults we have to back off some things. That is one important piece, Prioritizing Making sure our young people goat to do the things they need to do. There are other things we can do, making sure we are increasing access to Mental Health services, working to increase access to, you know, adults who can help support them in School Settings or pediatricians offices so if kids are struggling we can get them the help they need what needs to be done there . You obviously cannot have a parent who is actually tuned in with what their kid is going through, not saying, hey, we cant fit you in for three weeks but were not going to be able to fit you in for months and months . This is very difficult. Again, this is something that was a challenge and a real problem. It was difficult to access Mental Health services. That has gotten worse over time. So i think a couple of things, we just really encourage parents, if their kids are stru struggling, to reach out to their pediatrician, to someone trusted at their school, a Mental Health provider they may know to talk it through. Were all in this together. Were all really approaching this challenging situation together. But we can help you and we can talk things through with you. We can help connect you to services in the committee. Even if it takes longer than we want. We can help make sure we are providing that support until were able to get there. All right. What are they looking into and who are they speaking with . John, this has been part of the investigation for more than a year, that they are looking at the accuracy of the Financial Statements that donald trump and the Trump Organization gave to lenders when they were trying to get loans and financing. The key thing here is, remember, they have already interviewed Michael Cohen eight times. He was the first to go public with this and it prompted the new York Attorney general to launch their investigation which merged in part with the d. A. s. What we have learned is more recently some people who worked at Deutsche Bank had been in, and they have met with prosecutors. We know that the accountant has met with prosecutors. He testified before the grand jury in the spring, the Washington Post reported he returned and was there for a brief session. That makes sense. In order to prove the Financial Statements this is one of the ones Michael Cohen made public to prove theyre inaccurate, you need to look at what the bank lenders were told, the representations they were given, and also what the accountants were told. It is interesting in this Financial Statement, there are two pages of disclaimers here. That makes it a little bit more difficult. This disclaimer says that trump is responsible for the preparation. The Accounting Firm said they didnt audit it. It goes on and includes six ways it departed from generally accepted accounting principles. And a user who had these unrevised Financial Statements might come to an entirely different conclusion. This can cut good for trump that his lawyers can say look at all these disclaimers. You know you have to take it with a grain of salt or it can cut against him because he doesnt have this i relied on my Accountant Defense here. They are not backing what hes saying, so to speak. This is why investigators have been looking at this. I wont say having a hard time. Thats why they are meeting with the people. This building was 68 stories high when it was 58. Right. You have one property in one years Financial Statement disappears in the next. It doesnt completely make sense. We should remember, too, donald trump has been asked about this under oath before in civil depositions. In those depositions he has put the blame on alan weisselberg. Part of the reason they might be having trouble, you have to show more than the numbers are off. You have to show an intent to deceive to be legally on the hook here. I want to ask you this judge, federal judge ruled that the house, the ways and Means Committee can get its hands on it and give trump the chance to appeal. He has been already civil audit for a decade. Whether that person could be intimidated. Theyre looking to say maybe they need to change the rules around audits and their oversight of the irs. It also matters because congress has, you know, theyre curious about what conflicts did trump have. We dont know publicly. We only know from other reporting. And what the investigators find, that wont become public unless there is a case. There is precedent. They have done it in the past making tax returns public. It is a trumpappointed judge saying trump is wrong on the law, saying the committee has a clear legislative purpose. But even though you are the right committee to get these documents, maybe it is not the most prudent thing to do, he says. Interesting. And if its the law, its the law. Expect that to change today and expect the fed to speed up its taper. The economy doesnt run too hot. They signaled as much earlier this month. But at this point the economy is very strong and inflationary pressures are high. It is therefore appropriate, in my view, to consider wrapping up the taper of our asset purchases, which we actually announced at the november meeting perhaps a few months sooner that means the fed will reduce bond buying faster than planned in march instead of june next year and the fed could raise Interest Rates next year. What the fed does, folks, has implications for everyone. Markets are accustomed to easy money, sending stocks to record highs. This could be a head wind for investors. If the fed tightens too quickly, it could hurt the economy, even cause a recession. Higher costs for credit cards, loans, mortgages, cars. Higher Interest Rates are coming next year. The Child Tax Credit, which currently supports 35 million families, will run out within weeks if the senate doesnt pass the build back better plan. That means 10 million children are at risk of slipping back into poverty. Van vanessa is with us in West Virginia. They relied on it to put food on the table and they could see them disappear. Reporter absolutely. Today is the day they are getting their last Child Tax Credit for a while if congress does not act. This is critical for millions of states, especially West Virginia, with one of the highest Poverty Rates in the country. We spoke to families here who say they hope that congress is listening. At breakfast, jesse and his Sister Madison can have whatever they want. But their mom, emily harden, says that wasnt always the case. There were a lot of times where we didnt have, you know, more than a couple of dollars and had to kind of decide, like, i wasnt going to eat so that he could eat. Reporter but now the family is on steadier footing thanks in part to a monthly tax credit for ctc, from the federal government. This year families are getting 3,000 per child ages 6 to 17, and 3,600 for children under 6. Thats up from 2,000 per child. Its been a really big deal for us. Reporter this single mom makes a modest salary of 34,000 as the pastor of the Church Of The Covenant in grafton, West Virginia. Bills have always been tight and still are, but the 6600 in Child Tax Credits shes getting makes a difference. Being less worried about those everyday expenses, which, you know, if youre worried about everyday expenses youre worried every day. I feel less stressed. Reporter but that stress is starting to build again. The Senate Must Pass the build back better bill by December 28th to continue ctc benefits at the current amounts. Part of the holdup is West Virginia senator joe manchin, who has concerns about the overall cost of the bill. We are potentially risking 50,000 West Virginia children who are benefiting from the ctc to either be pushed further down into poverty or actually cross into the poverty line. Reporter and across the country, its nearly 10 million children at risk. The butchers, down one salary after ana lost her job during the pandemic, said it would be devastating to lose the 6,600 in tax credits for their two children. The 4yearold and 15yearold are never going to go hungry. But its a different story for us. Sometimes we have to make those kind of decisions. Reporter 91 use their ctc on food, education and other basic needs. The butchers are looking to cut their grocery bill, but with prices rising across the board, its nearly impossible. Our food budget is pretty low at this point. I dont see us being able to go much lower than that. Its scary, because im not sure what our next step is going to look like. But with next years Child Tax Credit, santa may not be able to deliver on everything this year. We kind of had a budgeted set amount. And then we were thinking about what we could actually get them. Its a tough conversation this year. Reporter and its easy to forget that so many families are still recovering economically out of this pandemic. And, brianna, when the first enhanced Child Tax Credits went out in july, in just a few weeks, we saw the family with children, Food Insecurity dropped 24 in those few weeks. It is important to remember the Child Tax Credits are going to basic needs, food, shelter, education, and maybe this year a little extra money for christmas presents. Brianna. Yeah.
