Are they trying to bring weapons, et cetera. Are these changes in your view sufficient to prevent the potential for violence like we saw on January 6 . Well we have to be concerned with what the department of Homeland Security has put out, that the potential for violence from this group based on the chatter that their hearing and the past record of what happened on 1 6. So the recommendations that we made as far as hardening the capitol still have some work to do. The recommendations we made on hiring more Police Officers was re rejected by Senator Leahy. So when we left there were 300 officers short and we recommended they hire another 600 to 700 officers. That was not considered and not funded. So, much has been done. Weve got a new Capitol Police chief and new sergeant at arms in the house and the senate. And they have taken measures, responding to intelligence that is coming in. But, look, ryan jim, they have to be ready for everything. They have to be ready for ieds, bear spray, snipers, trump bombs, potential attacks on the d. C. Metro and the grid in d. C. Because when you deal with terrorism, you dont know what theyre going to do. If this alert that came out about a foreign terrorist group, not only would we have National Guard on the Stand By, weve had Delta Force on Stand By. But we treat domestic terrorism with a soft glove in the united states. And we allowed and give threats without taking actions. And it becomes a partisan issue. On the issue of the National Guard, because that is one of the key recommendations you had when you led your security review, make them on standby. Communication quicker so they could be mobilized quicker. Has that issue at least been solved . I understand there is 100 National Guard on Stand By at the armory. We recommended in the report that we have them 24 7, 365, just like we have National Guard jets on standby in d. C. But that was not accepted by Senator Leahy and his group. And in this case, they followed the protocol of the Capitol Police chief requesting National Guard be on standby and i understand that is the case. There is National Guard on Stand By at the armory. But what happened at the attack on 3 00 on sunday morning. Terrorists are not going to do anything to your script. They do it when it is most advantage to them and by 3 00 on sunday or monday morning, those national Guard Wont be standby. Those additional Police Wont be Stand By. Pfizers put forth some data saying immunity waynes about 6 every six weeks or so. That that is a piece of data but the immunity does not wayne for protection for severe illness. How severe are the break through infection, and all the way to people who are much sicker, does it seem to fall in a particular pattern, is that more so for the el elderly and how long does the booster last and how much does it reduce transmission, right . And that is a big question. How much do the vaccines reduce transmission. Let me show you quickly israel because theyre a Living Lab in some ways to what were seeing here in the united states. The immediate Crisis And Influx of more than 10,000 migrants who are camped out along the bridge along the u. S. Mexico Border awaiting processing. Now, you could point to the fact that you have to look at many of the migrants that are currently have been positioned under that bridge in Del Rio waiting to cross the border are haitians. What has been going on in haiti this year. Weve seen natural disasters, weve also seen a recent assassination of their president as well. All of that is going to continue to push people to make this dangerous journey. It is similar to what weve seen in previous years as well with central american migrants making the trek. Because of natural disasters an the pandemic. So that is outside of the government. But also lets be clear, the Border And Border crossings in how to manage it, how to balance deterrence with president bidens pledge to restore a system of providing protection for people crossing the border has been a major challenge throughout the administration. They have struggled to balance, maintaining the policies that trump did put in place, that have forced many of the vulnerable to return to those dangerous areas in mexico, while also surging enough staff and resources to actually process these folks you in a human way. One of the ironies here, right, which i think a lot of folks are aware of, is that the biden administration, except for the wall, have preserved a lot of tough Trump Administration policies one being title 42, giving the ability based on covid dangers of deporting people or even flying some of the folks caught at the border down to the southern Mexico Border as well. They have maintained one of the policies that honestly was, you know, zero Tolerance And Family separation aside, one of the policies that allow President Trump to close off asylumseekers to the united states, what has changed however, is that title 42 when it was first implemented, Border Agents were able to expel migrants back across to mexico throughout the border. What has changed is earlier this year, because of a lack of shelter capacity, on the Mexico Side of the border and as well as some mexican authorities not accepting the migrants that the u. S. Was attempting to return to mexico, the administration has now applied this Half Hazard Approach where some areas in texas, they are expelling folks, some areas they are not. Now it is also important to note there was a recent Court Decision this week that has now ruled that the administration is not going to be able to expel families, at least in the shortterm. So many of the folks, families that you see there, they will not be able to expel. They should be able to come across and ask for a chance for asylum. The other update that is worth noting is that also a recent Court Ruling said that the biden administration is going to need to restore another restrictive Trump Administration policy that requires for asylumseekers to wait in mexico until they receive a decision on their case. So going forward it is going to be interesting to see, one, in the shortterm how this administration is going to theyre saying theyre going to surge agents to this area to try and get those many of them vulnerable assistance. But it will also be interesting to see how they balance who gets to come in, and get asylum and who rather will be forced to remain in what were seeing, those dangerous areas. Yeah. Well theyre now looking into the circumstances of her death after the coroner made a request and the state Law Enforcement division determined new information there. Well the attorney for the Saterfield Family said that this defense that appears to be laid out right now by Alex Murdaughs attorneys saying that he had this 20 year Opioid Addiction, they dont buy it. That is just Nothing But Lawyer Spin Casting a defense that doesnt exist. The Murdaugh Family has been throughout this whole process not transparent. The latest one we just heard from the attorney from the family of the housekeeper who died a couple of years ago saying that talk of the Opioid Addiction in his words was lawyer spin. That the family was not being transparent. Youve also got him out this 20,000 Bond Versus 55,000 for the man that he alleged hired to do the hit to make it look like a suicide. When youre putting all of this together, joey, what is your gut here . What does all of this tell you about what is really going on . Good to see you. There is a lot amiss here. So first addressing the Bail Conditions which i think to be wholly deficient, the Justice System has to address everyone equally. You have a person involved in a major scheme to kill himself. It involves a 10 Million apparently payout that he was doing it for. There is admissions by his lawyer on national tv that in fact he did it. So hes admitted to all of the elements of this particular crime. He calls on September 4th saying he has no idea and by the way yes, i was involved so hes now talked to the police and you have 20,000. I practice in a very progressive jurisdiction in New York and i could tell you, 20,000 for far less of what Bail Conditions are, perhaps it has to do with his connections and everything else. So there is say lot here. And then we look at, really, a whole bunch else, erica that, is going on here as it relates to other deaths involved in his family. We know that back in june, that his wife apparently was gunned down. His son was apparently gunned down. He indicated that he had no involvement. We have a House Keeper that is dead. A couple of years before that. So i think it tells me that someone is not being forthcoming and i think that opens that all up as it relates to were you really involved in those things, were you lying then and are you lying now. And final point, when we talk about the issues if terms of Opioid Addictions and he was going through so much, those are not defenses. That is what we call mitigation. What is the difference. Mitigation is your clients is convicted and you go to the judge and you say your honor, my client was in a tough time and ep was in a tough time and that is mitigation and that doesnt explain the specifics to the defense of the crime. I think there is none so that is why his attorney was waxing poetic. And there are questions about gabby petito, the missing 22yearold. Her boyfriend who she was traveling Cross Country with home in florida hes not talking to police. I spoke with the public Information Officer for the local Police Department in north port, florida, this morning and he said very clearly that the Boyfriend Fiance Family has not been cooperative. They attorney say in a statement they are going to stay in the background. As a Defense Attorney, when you look at that statement, what is it really saying . So, erica, it is important to note, the family obviously is ailing, their in pain and they want answers but who could provide the answers but the fiance who she was on the the trip across the country, knowing what they did together, et cetera. But the fact is that as much as a Public Relations it would help him to be out there saying i miss here too and everything else, it is not from a legal perspective very helpful. So he has Air Right to remain silent and i think that his attorney is saying im exercising that right. So what it tells me is that he has information but he can implicate himself. And how often, erica, have we seen in past cases that you and i have dealt with where you have instances, Scott Peterson for example, when he said i just want my wife back and hes involved. So the best course of action any Defense Attorney will say is to keep your mouth shut. And final point, i think this case will be unraveled by all of the evident that is out there. And hopefully shes okay. Thank god, i hope she is. But you have instagram posts, they indicate where they were. What they were doing. Who they were with. You have this instance in utah where the Police Approach because apparently there was a domestic violence incident. So you have all of this digital trail and we live in a surveillance oriented society. And i think the fbi and resources will track back to where she was and i think theyll be major breaks in the case. I think we have significant Law Enforcement resources and personnel and hopefully that will bring a lot to bear on what happened and when and perhaps shes still okay.
