The department of Homeland Security has issued a new warning for potential violence surrounding a far right Wing Rally planned for saturday. It comes eight months after the capitol was attacked by rioters trying to overturn the president ial election. Ryan nobles has the latest. Reporter weve known for some time that Law Enforcement, Capitol Police, department of Homeland Security were concerned about what was going to happen here on Capitol Hill on saturday. We now have learned after reviewing an internal Security Memo reviewed by cnn that they are also concerned that this Security Threat could extend into friday, there could be folks that are attending the rally could show up friday and attempt to cause trouble. And it also explains why we saw the fencing of the Capitol Go Up so early, it went up late wednesday night, it was completely in place by thursday morning. At this Point Capitol Police still allowing people to go in front of the capitol if they would like, but at a moments notice they have the ability now to shut that area completely off to the public. We arent expecting a big crowd here. We should be clear about that. There were Tens Of Thousands of people in washington, d. C. For the January 6th stop the steal rally which was the prelude to the sninsurrection. The organizers of the justice for J6 Rally as they call it are only expecting around 700 people. But what Law Enforcement is concerned about, that it only takes a couple people to cause real trouble especially if some of those people come to this event with weapons. And that is a concern that they have right now despite the fact that organizers have said not to bring any weapons and to remain peaceful. The Capitol Police has asked for reinforcements, they have the National Guard on standby and they also asked for the help of the d. C. Metropolitan Police Department as well. And then of course a new Wild Card thrown into all of this on thursday when the former President Donald Trump who wont be at this event on saturday did put out a Statement Issuing Support for those who have been arrested for their role in the January 6 insurrection. He described the riot that led to the death of many people as nothing more than a protest. He said that those protestors are the victims of a between tiered Justice System and he once again completed his false claims about the election. And it is this misinformation that has Law Enforcement concerned. This is what makes protesters angry and they are worried that this could just lead to more tension ahead of what is a day that many are concerned about Coming Up on saturday. Cnn Law Enforcement analyst and former Secret Service a little jonathan wacro says it is true shal that strict security might bes are enforced and if it turns out Law Enforcement was overprepared, that is okay. We have to that these protective measures because we know that we have an unmitigated threat out there. It may not manifest itself on saturday, but we have to have that show of force. We have to understand that Law Enforcement since January 6 is no longer assessing the likelihood that any group that these types of groups, these far right groups, will engage in acts of slins. We know they will. There is video of it. So we have to be prepared for that. And if were overprepared and nothing happens, that is okay. We have to send a signal that were going to stand by our Law Enforcement, our intelligence and protect these critical assets no matter what. Independent scientific Vaccine Advisers to the u. S. Food and Drug Administration are meeting in the coming hours to discuss whether americans need Covid19 Booster shots but the experts are divided on the efficacy of a third dose. Jason Dason Carroll has the det. Reporter an Fda Advisory Committee will meet to discuss whether it is now time for some americans to get that added shot. This as some states have already made plans as they await approval of a third Dose Rollout next week. There is actually a pretty straightforward case to be made for why we should be allowing Booster Shots at this time especially for older individuals and people who are more medically vulnerable. Reporter an estimated a 5. 2 million people could be he will good i believe for a Booster Shot though there is still debate among doctors and Public Health experts on how effective that shot would be. Giving more vaccines to people already vaccinated will do very little to short of lessen the burden on hospitals. You have to get the unvaccinated vaccinated in order to really change the course of the pandemic. I was one of the biggest skeptics of the docs in the White House about boosters and ive become convinced particularly looking at the israeli data. While Booster Shots could amp up protection for those already vaccinated, the Nations Hospital System is overloaded with covid patients, most of whom are unvaccinated. Nearly 100,000 americans are hospitalized with the virus. Now for the first time since june, the cdc predicts new daily hospitalizations will decline between now and early october. In los angeles, vaccines will soon be required for indoor bars, Night Clubs and wineries. Vaccines or a negative test will also be required for large indoor events like concerts. We have got to break this covid cycle. These surges that were experiencing. We are not timid in terms of leaning in and anticipating the changing dynamics. Reporter in florida, the opposite mindset, today the state will begin punishing local governments for requiring their employees to get vaccinated, threatening a 5,000 fine for each violation. Meanwhile some big businesses are making head dway. So what should we expect to hear after the Meeting Today . Dr. Sanjay gupta, author of the new Book World War c has more. This is an advisory committee to the fda that will look at a lot of the data and try to make some sense of it. As best we can tell, there will be sort of four major questions that they are really trying to get at here. First of all, how much is immunity really waning. There has been some studies coming out of pfizer saying that immunity may be decreasing about 6 every two months. But again, overall for severe illness, vaccines remain very effective according to u. S. Data, really holding steady at about 96 . The other question, how severe are the Breakthrough Infections. When we look at Breakthrough Infections, it could be people who simply test positive and are surprised that they test positive, they dont have any symptoms, to people who have much more significant symptoms. Hoping that there is more details on exactly how severe the majority of these Breakthrough Infections are. How long does the Booster Affect last . We dont know the answer to that. Is It Something where you will get a big surge of protection for a little bit of time and then it will wane off as weve seen with other vaccines . And finally, how much do boosters actually reduce transmission. I think this is an important one. There is a lot of data coming out of israel, people often point to israel because israel is a bit ahead of us in terms of time line. They are more vaccinated about 63 of the population is vaccinated. And they have already been doing boosters since august now. So for over a month. But take a look at what has happened to their overall cases. Cases are actually higher now than they have ever been despite that high Vaccination Rate and even the instigation of boosters. So it really raises the question, are positive cases, are Breakthrough Cases really going to be the metric that the fda is going to use to determine whether or not people should receive a booster. We dont know the answer to this. In the past typically weve had a pretty good answer. We had a pretty good idea what the fda was going to do. Here i think at this point it is anybodys guess. So here is a look at where things stand globally. You can see the cases, they are down compared to the previous week in much of africa and western europe. China appears to be going in the opposite direction. Spains Health Ministry reports 75 of the population has now been fully vaccinated, but other European Countries are cracking down. The Health Minister says majority are Support Staff and many now have decided to get vaccinated. And italy is imposing some of the toughest covid19 regulations in the world. So ben, one can just imagine the outcry in the u. S. If the development here tried such a sweeping mandate. So take us through what is behind Italys Decision and how people are reacting. Reporter well, italy basically wants to get over this crisis, which has been going on since february last year. And most people dont seem to object to evermore stringent measures to try to bring the pandemic under control. Keep in mind, kim, that more than 130,000 italians have died from this disease. Last year the economy shrunk by 9 . This is a situation that is intolerable for most people and there is a realization among most italians that to get out of this crisis, most people have to be vaccinated. And if there are those who hesitate to be vaccinated, the penalties should be high. Therefore, now all public sector workers and private sector workers must show that they have either been vaccinated or have been tested negative or have recently recovered from the disease. If they dont comply with these measures, they could be suspended from their jobs and face hefty fines. Now, one of the members of the government coalition, the league, a right wing party, has objected to some of these members, but and called for protests. But the public response has been weak at best, most people understand that to get out of this situation, hard measures have to be taken. And therefore there hasnt been much of a protest, much pushback, to these measures. Which there have been a series of measures introduced over the last few months. For instance, italy was the first country to require all Health Care workers to be vaccinated. And then it imposed requirements for the socalled green passes at things like Sporting And Entertainment venues, museums and galleries and spas. And for indoor dining. And most recently, for domestic flights, for train travel, and Sea Travel as well. There have not been really many protests to these evertougher measures. Satellite images obtained by cnn appear to show construction at a North Korean nuclear complex, an area being built at a key Uranium Enrichment Plant leading to new concerns about pyongyangs nuclear weapons program. Reporter these were commercial Satellite Images that were analyzed by the Middlebury Institute and what they saw was exwhat they believe is an expense of the research facility complex. They believe that there is additional Floor Space being put in, something like 1,000 square meters, which could house 1,000 extra centrifuges. So what it effectively means were being told by Jeffrey Lewis one of the Weapons Experts there, this could mean that the amount of Weapons Grade Uranium that North Korea is able to produce could be increased by 25 . So if this is the case, this would be a very significant development. We also know that u. S. Officials according to two sources with knowledge of the situation do understand this situation. They acknowledge that North Korea could well be increasing significantly the amount of Weapons Grade that it is producing. Just at the end of august, we also heard from the iaea in a report that they believe one of the reactors was actually being restarted within the very same complex. So a lot of attention has been placed on this particular complex in recent months. And also this comes at the end of a very busy week here on the korea peninsula. And while many people scramble to get out of the country, so many others were unable to escape the taliban. Among those, Hins Shundreds of judges who fear Reprisal Attacks from men they jailed in the past. For more, lets bring in Anna Coren in hong kong. And so as you report unfortunately some women in particular have very good reason to be scared. What did you find out . When the taliban came into power just over a month ago, they promised had women would remain an integral part of society and that this generation of women who have been educated in the last 20 years could continue their jobs and be part of the workforce. That is clearly not the case. Instead, women are being repressed, they are being abused and those who held positions of power like judges now fear for their lives. They say they have targets on their heads. Childhood laughter shared by two youngsters who have no idea about the dangers they now face. Their mother was a judge in afghanistan, a profession now made impossible for women. The taliban has told them not to return to work. And now the whole family has a target on their heads. Translator a day or two after the taliban arrived in kabul, my personal number was called and i was threatened with revenge, threatened with murder. And i had to cancel my phone numbers. Reporter the family is currently in hiding, in fear of being hunted down by men she put behind bars. Some of whom have now been freed by the taliban. Translator because of this threat from the prisoners, i change my house once every four days, i hide there and try never to go out. Reporter her fear after a Police Woman pregnant was murdered by the taliban according to her family. A claim the taliban deny. Nobilla is one of around 200 Women Judges left stranded in afghanistan. Many of them presided over the worst cases of violence against women, including domestic abuse. Some had even traveled to the u. S. For a judicial education program. Under the cover of darkness and gunfire, a few dozen others have managed to get out. One experienced high Court Judge risked her life to flee the country after the taliban came looking for her. Translator five members of the taliban came to my area asking my neighbors about me. I relocated again because i was so scared that they could find me. Reporter this judge managed to escape with her nieces and nephews on a flight from kabul after days of waiting at the airport. She wants to keep their identity hidden as she fears for Family Members back home. They landed safely in poland. And are now trying to get to the u. S. But the Judge Cant forget the life she left behind. Translator now i feel like i lost everything. Imagine you have a personality, career, respect, a home, a car, a life and everything. And suddenly you leave everything. Reporter as Chaos And Uncertainty unfolds inside afghanistan, the u. S. Based international association of Women Judges is trying to help more of their afghan members to leave. But they say western countries need to do more. Governments need to be better, more ag iile, more generous frankly in giving admission to people who are in danger in afghanistan. Were not going to abandon them, were not going to forget them, and were not going to let the world ignore them. Reporter for those left behind, escape is their only hope as they see no future in their homeland under taliban rule. But she hopes one day that she will be allowed to return to the bench. Translator we have been working for many years to combat violence, Oppression And Justice and i want to continue with my work. Reporter her bravery in protecting afghanistans women despite the dangers was to create a better future for her daughters. A generation that now faces a Dark Reality under the new regime. Kim, this woman was incredibly brave and courageous in wanting to go on camera. Obviously show her face. And tell her story. But she said im speaking on behalf of the other 200 female judges in this country who are trapped. We are pleading with the united states, with the international community, to help us, to help us escape this country, escape taliban rule. But you know, it is not just these women. There are other women who are so desperate to get out of the country as well. I was speaking to a human Rights Activist who is still in kabul, she is running a shelter looking after dozens of women and girls, and she says she needs to get these people out as well. She said the taliban, they dont want to hear us, they dont want to see us. You know, she is wondering why they are hated, why women are hated so much now in afghanistan by the taliban. She says they want us to live a life not worth living. Just truly chilling words. Yeah, a Dark Reality as you said. Great reporting there, Anna Coren. Really appreciate that. An Atlanta School Community is at the center of an ongoing controversy after a mother claimed the principal was assigning black students to specific classes based on race. But many other parents are speaking up in defense of the principal. Nick valencia has the story. Reporter Mary Lynn elementary is located in a predominantly white upper middle Class Neighborhood in atlanta. Some parents in the district who would normally send their kids to Private School choose instead to send them here, in large part they say because of sharon briscoe, a progressive principal who paths lobbied for years to hire. But it is briscoes allegationed conversation about race based Class Placement practices that are now the focus of a civil Rights Complaint. She informed me that unit with a the black class. How did you react to that . A pit was in my stomach. Firs i was like what do you mean . Reporter of the six total second grade classes, kyla says that she was told by Principal Briscoe that black students including her daughter would only have a choice between two of the classes. In july, she and her husband who works as the School Psychologist filed the federal complaint with the Department Of Education. It may not be your 1950s Segregation where you have signs above Water Fountains in rooms, but it is the same thing. Reporter Atlanta Public Schools investigated saying that Atlanta Public Schools does not condone assigning of students to classrooms based on race. As such, the district conducted a review concerning allegations of this conduct. At the conclusion of the review, appropriate actions were taken to address the issue and the matter was closed. A spokesman for a. P. S. Would not disclose the actions that they took telling cnn that they do not share details of personnel decisions. Briscoe who is black remains the schools principal. I asked her why was she doing it and she said because she was building community and that is what she was doing. And i kept telling her that she was wrong. Reporter not everybody agrees with posey. Some Race Relations Experts believe that grouping students by race actually could create a healthier environment in classrooms. To be able to have that community inside your classroom can be comforting. Reporter could i are a banks, clinical psychologist, says there is psychological Research Supporting of idea of Critical Mass in the classroom for minority groups especially as a school like Mary Lin where black students make up an estimated 10 of the 599 students. To frame those classes as the black classes, that i think is problematic in the sense of how you frame it and how you articulate the intention and why it is happening. But i think that the desire to make sure that kids dont feel tokenized, that they can go to school and just focus on being in school and being a kid. I would never ever want my child to be the one black child in a classroom. Wouldnt wish that on anybody. Shortly after the poseys came forward, these mothers were part of a group of concerned black parents at the school who wrote a letter in support of briscoe. They asked us to conceal their identities because of ongoing threatening Phone Calls to the school in the wake of the segregation claims. They believe briscoe acted in good faith. If the race was used as a factor in the Class Placement, they say they are in full support. I grew up where i was the only black child in the honors classes in my High School for four years. And when i say that i still have trauma based on it, i still have traumais bad on it. It was very isolating. Principal briscoe is a black woman, she went to a black college, she raised two black sons. There is No One on earth who can say that she does not care about black children. Even the complainant herself ha community so No One black child is isolated. Reporter but the Poseys Say they violated the civil rights act. Posey also alleges an after School Program she ran at the school was threatened to be cut in retaliation for her complaint. A senior attorney for the naacp legal Defense Fund believes they have a case even if the principal says she was trying to do the right thing. The concerns about Ones Child being lonely are sincerely felt concerns. But be that as it may, the law is what it is and does not permit children to be assigned to classrooms based on race. Reporter in a statement to cnn, Bringsbriscoes Attorney se was he extremely concerned about the recent allegations. Given it is an active investigation, however, miss briscoe is limited in what information she can share right now, but is looking forward to telling her side of the story at the appropriate time and place. In her response saying that she wanted to build community, do you think it was done in good faith on her part . I dont know. Because for me, full stop, it is illegal. So i cant really get past if it is in good faith because it really doesnt matter at that point. It is wrong. Reporter we reached out to the Department Of Education to see if they are going to pursue the Poseys Complaint but they havent indicated one way or the other if they will. The Poseys Say that they want the leadership at Mary Lin elementary gone.
