Lets take a listen to what dr. Fauci had to say. Pfizer one of the companies that has the mrna has gotten the information and has been examined and things look like that they are ready to go. Moderna might be actually a little bit behind that. And if they are, what you might see a rather than the simultaneous Rolling Out of the Booster Promi er products, it m sequintal T Tal by a week or tw. And what is going on here is that there is an excellent chance that starting the week of september 20th, that folks who got pfizer will be able to start getting their boosters. It will be in Age Groups or groupings, but folks who got mod is more of a question mark. And so they are closely watching the data. Obviously israel has been giving Booster Shots. What do we know from that country . Right. So israel has been giving Booster Shots for weeks now. In Fact Anyone ages 12 and older can thousand get a Booster Shot and it is happening very commonly. And so they actually have data. It is interesting that the u. S. A much larger country has less data than this little tiny country in the middle east. So lets Take A Look at what israel has found because they have been Keeping Track of what has happened once they have given boosters. What they found in israel is that they have looked at more than more than this number have gotten boosters, but they examined more than A Million ages 60 plus. And after boosters their relative risk of severe disease went down more than ten times and that is data that the u. S. Is really looking at and that is most likely data that will be presented to fda advisers on September 17th for pfizer to say, hey, it is time for us to be giving Booster Shots. And israel, it is interesting, people are getting Booster Shots about five months after their second vaccine or more, that is when they are eligible. Bears watching. Elizabeth cohen, thanks so much. Overnight president biden approved a Disaster Declaration for New Jersey from this catastrophic flooding that we saw by remnants of Hurricane Ida last week. At least 50 people have died in the northeast. About half of them in New Jersey. And joining us now to discuss this is john bentz, director of Emergency Management for manville borough, which is one of the states hardest Hit Areas. Sir, thank you so much for being with us. You can first just tell us about having been such a hard Hit Area where things stand with your community . Thank you and good morning. At this point were in a cleanup and starting to go into a recovery stage. Youre cleanup began on friday. We do have somerset County Assistance coming in with contractors that well be sending in on tuesday to start cleaning up debris. At this point public service, electric and gas, are both in town with boots on the ground and starting to do Restorations House to house to see whether houses need meters, whether gas or electric, whatever houses may have had major flooding in it where the meters could have been understand water. And so they are starting to do that. Our local inspectors will bewat. And so they are starting to do that. Our local inspectors will be taking care of that and see where we are going forward. And there has been a Disaster Declaration coming from the White House of course. And were going to be seeing president biden visiting the Area Tomorrow to really see what is happening there on the ground. What do you want to come out of that trip . I know that our local elected officials in town, weve been fighting for years for Flood Control for our town. So the main thing is to see and to have, you know, money to help us with these people. Whether it is different things in regards to elevating houses or things like that, but again, our elected officials for years have been trying with this and working with, you know, the government to do that. And by the president coming here and visiting, were hoping that he sees what has happened. I mean, we had this in 1999 with floyd, in 2011 with irene and now were here with ida and ida ended up being worse than what floyd was in 1999. We heard the presidenT Talking about when he went to visit louisiana last week talking about Insurance Companies and that they werent paying out what they need to assist people who had beaeen displaced or who had had their homes damaged by flood. Are you seeing that where you are . At this point i have not heard anything at this point in regards to that. Again, our residents are just starting to get back to their homes once the water receded. And they were able to get back in start being ing on Friday Mo. So i have not heard anything but i would hope that in the past the Insurance Companies were able to help out our residents and we would hope that, you know, they are giving them their fair shot of what they deserve to get back and to help them rebuild and get their lives back together. This was a storm that originally we were only projected to get 3 to 4 inches of rain with possibly locally of 5 inches Wednesday Night in early thursday morning. And we ended up receiving 10 inches of rain in three hours. There was no way that people could prepare for this. So it is a disaster right now. And weve been showing pictures there in manville from thursday. You said the water receded on friday and folks are just getting back it their houses, which are uninhabitable in many cases. Tell us what they are going home to when they open the door to these homes that were under water. Mini mean, in some of the hardest head areas, it borders the Millstone River and also at The End of los valley, we have residents that went home on friday even, you know, thursday if they were able to get home after some of the water receded, and they are going home to houses that may have had a complete full basement full of water. They had water on their first floor. And we had multiple houses where we had foundation collapse. I would say at this point were probably at around 12 to 15 that have had some kind of compromise with the foundation where there is a collapse and our Building Department has been going around and post bing these buildings. So could be anything. Like you said, you come home and the one fortunate thing that i will say about this storm, the only fortunate thing, we did not lose power the whole time. So for some of the people that were able to if it was able to keep up, you know, Sump Pumps or electric in their house, people that stayed in their ho house, they had electric the whole time. Other than that, people are Coming Home to they dont know what they are Coming Home to actually. They could have a foot of water in their house when they were Coming Home, they could have five feet of water, up to ten feet of water. They didnt know what to expect. But as they got home over the weekend, people starting already to clean up. And we have around town you drive around, these hardest Hit Areas, again the Llos Valley an south Side Section of town, the streets, you know, it is just heartbreaking to see it again because ive been here, you know, since hurricane floyd, ive been through all of these now and each time it gets harder and harder to see this. And that is why we need the help in this town and were hoping you know, im hoping that when the president sees this, he works with our elected officials and they can help us finally do something to help our town. We know that you will be awaiting his visit and see what he says tomorrow as will we. Thank you so much for being with us. Youre welcome. Have a gooD Day. And a new School Year bringing the same debate over masks in the classroom. See how some School Districts are approaching the issue as covid cases hit new records for children. School quaback in session a more kids are hospitalized with covid than at any point in the pandemic. So how do schools keep children safe . Evan mcmorrissantoro with more. And as you mentioned right in the middle of school reopening season. Millions will be going to school all during T Delta Variant anD Different places are taking different approaches. So were starting to get a picture of what works and what doesnt. Were confident in what were doing and ill make a change if i see this is necessary. Reporter and this superintendents plan at schools in jackson county, mississippi, masks, vaccines, and quarantines are voluntary. He says that he has chosen Quality Education over pandemic fear. We lost a teacher to covid and it broke our i wept, but i need to make nonemotional decisions. But your nonemotional decision is to do nothing. That seems a little weird. Im using the data. And so, you know, i feel that our kids are safe relative to the other schools with those options. Reporter and there are around 9,000 students who started August 5 and the latest complete report from the district shows an astonishing 6. 4 of students have covid. Striker says the latest numbers are trending down, slightly. Medical director at the Los Angeles unified School District is running a program with a completely different preaapproa from jack souson county, mississippi. We have one of the largest Testing Programs where were testing all Student And Staff regardless of Vaccination Status every week. Reporter all adults inside Los Angeles schools are required to be vaccinated. Everyone is required to wear a mask. Just half of 1 of the students and staff tested were positive for covid19. Dr. Benjamin, a pediatrician leading a team of researchers studying the pandemic says even though it is early in the year, there is enough data to strongly suggest what works. If a School District does not have a mandatory Masking Policy and is not quarantining thousands of people by the second week of school, then that School District is very likely being irresponsible as it relates to Quarantine And Exposure of people at school. Reporter he likes Vaccine Mandates for adults in education like those in illinois, oregon and washington. Some districts like fairfax, virginia have taken the extra measure of requiring many studentathletes to be vaccinated. He likes that one too. Lunchtime is a big Worry Benjamin says. When masks come off, delta is on the menu. Portland public schools will serve meals outdoors as much as possible for Elementary School students. Nothing is better than universal Masking Benjamin says. If all of your School Activities are outside and people are more than 6 feet apart and you are holding all of your classes outside and all of your lurch onch outside, you mie able to get away without masking. So you can see the size of the challenge. I was zooming with people all over the country to get this picture. But the answer appears to be masking is the best way to keep schools open which is what everybody wants to keep kids educated the best way they can. But the politics is still getting in the way in a lot of place and were seeing early indications that some schools are already closing because they cant get a handle on delta. These choices have consequences. They clearly do. Thank you very much for that. Lets talk about this thousand with dr. Massena from John Hopkins Allchildrens hospital. Thank you so much for being with us to talk about really the School Year and so many different things that i think students and parents will be ebb countering. Lets start with masks and the fact that were seeing such different practices. Lets Start Fact that were seeing such different practices. What are your concerns . There is a lot of concerns obviously. We do support the Mask Use of all children in schools. And really in all public spaces right now, if you live in an area of a country where covid rates are really high. Im especially concerned for children who are too young to be vaccinated. Masks are really an important part of keeping them safe. They certainly are. And i want to ask you about 5 to 11yearolds in a moment. But first on masks, part of the debate, youve seen some parents who seem to think that its tantamount to Child Abuse to have children wearing masks all day and i wonder what you can speak to about those kinds of concerns and whether it is healthy for children to be wearing masks all day. So i know that that is a concern that gets raised a lot. But you know, the data really dont bear that out. Masks have been worn in Health Care for many hours a day for long time even precovid. So those of us in the medical community who are pretty used to wearing masks all day really have never really had any real issues, none have ever really been raised. And you also have to remember too that lot of children last year wore masks to school all the time. And no serious safety concerns were seen with that practice. I think there probably are some kids for whom wearing a mask might be more difficult. And if that is the team of situation that i think parents find themselves in, the best thing to do is to talk to that childs pediatrician. So what are the concerns that you have as we await vaccines for kids 5 to 11 . Well, i think that obviously school is the main concern because that is a long chunk of the Childs Day where they have to be indoors for the most part and around other children. And, you know, if you havent had the opportunity to be vaccinated yet especially if you are too young to be vaccinated and it is just not an option, you know, it really does put that child in a difficult situation. There is not a lot that you can do to protect those children, but i think that masking, social distancing, making sure all of the older children and older people in that Childs Life are vaccinated. For example if you have a 5yearold, make sure that everyone else In The House is vaccinated to protect that child. I think those are some of the things that we can do to ensure a safe year for those children until the time that the vaccines are approve and hopefully that will be soon. And what about testing . Ive heard examples of some schools that are doing universal testing each week, some that are doing a sample maybe more like 20 of the schools, some maybe doing no testing. You know, i think that testing is certainly a tool that we have to identify people early and so that we can isolate those people if we know them to be positive. And that certainly helps. I think testing on a large scale is very, very difficult to do logistically. So i do have concerns about really the reality of how that gets done. In the districts that can do it, i think that it can provide benefit. But it is a difficult thing to suggest that all School Districts do. Yeah, you can see how it would be tough logisticsly. Dr. Massena, thank you so much for being with us. And surging Delta Variant being blamed for a disappointing Jobs Report. Well speak live with Labor Secretary Marty walsh about the administrations efforts to turn things around. And cnn goes inside the new afghanistan as the taliban captures the final strong hold owing of resistance. As someone who resembles Someone Else. Uldve made. Call one eight hundred, Eight Million on this Labor Day, millions of out of Work Americans will no longer receive the federal Unemployment Benefits meant to ease the economic shock of the pandemic. This follows release of a pretty tough august Jobs Report which president biden says illustrates how the Daselta Variant is weighing down the economic recovery. Too many have not gotten vaccinated. And it is creating a lot of unease in our any and around our kitchen table. Some wanted to see a Laernlg Number Today and so did i. What were seeing is a continued Growth Month after month. Joining me now is Labor Secretary Marty walsh. Mr. Secretary, thank you for being with us. 7 Million People Today lose all of their extended enhanced unemployment benefit, an additional 3 Million loose part of it. How much will that hurt . People still will have unemployment in some cases. I think that the idea behind the extension was to continue to move our economy forward. Obviously this ending comes on a few days after a Jobs Number that was a little under projection. But certainly weve added 4. 5 Million jobs since the beginning of biden administrations and we need to move forward. Its a tough time. A month ago we current dealing with such high numbers and it seems like youre economy was moving in the right direction. Were still going in the right direction but we need to stay vigilant and get people vaccinated and get people safe moving forward. The one thing that we were able to do myself and Secretary Yellen is we sent letters to the states, all states, to let them know if they want to extend the benefit themselves, they can do that. Some States Unemployment numbers are very close. I dont think any states are doing that at this point. I guess my question is, we are where we are with delta this morning and clearly the Case Numbers are high. So given the situation, what plans does the administration have to perhaps readdress these enhanced extended Unemployment Benefits . I think that the administration needs to focus on the Delta Variant. We need it on focus to getting people vaccinated. I dont think that we should be trying to look backwards. We need to be looking forwards. Were seeing that this weekend last week and this week, were supposed to be opening schools. All schools will be in person and now we have highlights amongst children, we have areas where well get kids back into school. And that potentially is at risk. We have work in front of us to push back on this Delta Variant and we need to make sure that people i heard the doctor from the Childrens Hospital in the previous segment, you know, masks you need them and we need to get people vaccinated. This is not a political issue. I dont know when masks and vaccines started to become political. But people are dying and people are putting themselves at risk, putting people around them at risk. Right now we have about 70 of all adults have at least one shot and in some cases even better than that. We need to get people vaccinated. What is keeping people from filling these jobs . There are more jobs open right now than there are people to fill them. What do you think that barrier is . I think one of the biggest barriers is lack of child care. That was something that is out there. And other barrier is fear for their own Health And Fear for their familys health. You talk to people, those are two of the biggest obstacles. I think there is also some consideration going on here by people are they going back to the same job that they had prepandemic. At the department of Labor Weve gotten out hundreds of millions out into the communities for Job Training and workforce development. We also are using the american Job Center to connect people to jobs. So i think that were living in a pandemic and there is a lot of factors here. I think the 300 didnt have as much of an impact that everyone said it did. Well see as we move forward. But those states that ended enhanced Ben Enh enhanced benefits did not see any gains at all. Studies show it didnt have any affect at all so you are right about that. Lets talk about the budget, idea of 3. 5 trillion in a new spending plan. Joe manchin a democrat says he wont spend that much. He wont vote for a package that big. So how much less would the administration be willing to accept . I dont know if the administration is willing to go there. I think that we just need to continue to move forward. This build back better agenda is an investment in people. It is an investment in the cares economy, into Health Care, into our schools, investment in development and workers training. You mention 10 Million jobs i guess open, 5 Million people out of work. So an opportunity for us to reskill and retrain workers. There is 100 Billion there. Weve never made this type of investment. Federal government never made that type of investment in the Human Side of infrastructure ever. We have an opportunity now. There are people all over the country including West Virginia that will looking for Help And Opportunity and this is the opportunity for congress and the senate to step up here and make this good investment in peoples livelihoods. I see that you are talking to us there boston so a question of parochial interest, how come you feel about the mac jones era . Were excited about it here. Cam newton did a nice job here filling in. We want to return back to brady days and what it looks like so far, Mac Jones Is a lot of pressure on him. Just play one game at a time, one down at a time and listen to work with his coaches. Im sure he will feel better knowing that the Labor Department is behind him. Secretary walsh, appreciate your time. Thank you. The navy identified the five dead as naval crew men from virginia, california and Sarah Burns from Maryland And Bailey tucker of missouri. The cause is under investigation. A Florida Town is reeling from a horrifying mass shooting. Four people shot including a baby in its mothers polk sheriff says that the suspect is a former marine and had no apparent connection to the victims. Randi kaye is joining us with the charges that were just announced. Reporter good morning, john. It all started around 4 30 in the morning sunday morning. So yet morning. These are all the details we are getting from the polk county sheriff. He said Saturday Night a suspect was arriving at this home, a woman called 911 about a suspicious vehicle, apparently the man said that god sent me here to speak with one of your daughters. That man is brian riley according to the sheriff. The deputies responded, he was gone by that time, nine hours later though he showed up at the same house and so did the deputies. They engaged this Gunfire And Hhe eventually came out. They went inside and found and 11yearold girl shot multiple times and thalso a 40yearolD D 33yearolD Dead and the three month old infant also dead. A grandmother also founD Dead in another house on the property. We know a little bit more, he served four years with the marines, he was honorably discharged and also served in Iraq And Afghanistan and he was a designated sharpshooter. Investigators spoke with his girlfriend and this is what she told them. She said he had ptsd, office seen him depressed, and he came home and he said, you know, god spoke to him and now he can talk directly to god. And she said ive never seen that kind of behavior. Reporter sheriff also says that riley has no criminal record and he was working as a bodyguard. This is awful. Did the suspect Say Anything in custody . Reporter he described himself according to the sheriff as a survivalist and admitted to being high on Meth And Whechbs tak when he was taken to the hospital, he apparently tried to grab an offices gun. He was unsuccessful. But certainly they have a lot of questions for this suspect this morning. And this is horrible, keep us posted. Appreciate you being there. New questions are emerging about the many controversies surrounding republican Senator Ron Johnson. Political observers have watched his evolution from Midwestern Conservative to a fullfledged Conspiracy Theory promoter. So what happened to Ron Johnson . Sara murray went to wisconsin to talk to voters and fellow republican officials and i wonder what they told you. Reporter well, if you are a fan of Ron Johnson, you see the same grass Roots Guy that you elected many years ago, but there are 34reare Plenty of Cri Say that he is spreading dangerous conspiracies. As He Toys With Running for a third term, seems there is no controversy that he wont wade into. Whether Fueling Misinformation on vaccines, dismissing the Climate Crisis as b. S. I think that it is a hoax. Reporter or suggesting the fbi had Inside Knoll Owledge of January 6 insurrection but didnt thwart it. His apparent willingness to deny facts and spread conspiracies have led some wondering what happened to Ron Johnson. He was yoour guy. Reporter Mark Becker went from rallying behind johnson to campaigning against him in a few short years. Everything that he has done since Donald Trump, it has been so devoid of reality. Reporter Still Becker called Up Johnson to air his frustration over republicans pedaling unfound claims. And i said ron, Joe Biden won the election and he said yes, but 1. 5 Million people voted for Donald Trump, im not sue pid, i wont piss those people off. Reporter becker wrote a column and pressed johnson to voice his faith in the election results. Did you hear from him after you wrote that he had either door i editorial . I sure did. And so, yeah, crazy. So i got a text january 7. A day after the insurrection. Mark, it is my sincere hope to never have to see or speak to a low Life Wouleasel such as yourf again. Please stop trying to contact me. So they are still picking up glass on the floor of the capitol and that is what he is concerned about. Reporter johnson said that he called him under false presenses and johnson expected the call to remain private. According to johnson months later he went public with what he claims the conversation was about and anything who woulD Do that is a low Life Weasel and nothing they say should be given any credence. This Week Johnson was recorded saying that trump lost wisconsin. In Statement Johnson says those remarks are consistent with what ive been saying publicly on the 2020 election. And pointed to interviews where he admits biden won but he also continued to raise unfounded claims of election irregularities. To michelle, johnson is the same guy she brought to a Tea Party Event back in 2009. Hes always been a frank talker. He doesnt skirt around issues. He is not looking to make friends necessarily all the time. Reporter she says he won over the crowd with a personal story about his Daughters Heart Defect and concerns about governmentrun Health Care. When ron spoke, you could have heard a pin drop. Reporter but she was skeptical when he wanted to challenge Russ Feingold in the senate race. He wasnt from politics, he ran a business and im like campaign is County Fairs anD Dairy breakfasts and shaking hands 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Reporter but she helped him make inroads. And so combined with ads, johnson built a Washington Outsider Campaign dedicated to shrinking government and he won ousting feingold. We need to restore fiscal sanity. Reporter democrats were so convinced Johnsons Victory was a fluke they ran feingold again in 2016. And johnson notched another victory. This time alongside Donald Trump. What do you say when people are like what happened to Ron Johnson . I get two questions. Would not is w one is what happened to Ron Johnson and the other is why is he doing all this stuff. Reporter and he has followed johnson since 2010. Unusual to have a member from the senate from a 50 50 state as conservative as Ron John so is, not necessarily great General Election politics to be kind of to be where Ron Johnson has been on some of these issues. Reporter those issues include questioning safe and effective vaccines. Should you be exposing yourself or should a parent expose their child to a vaccine that we dont know the long Term Safety . Reporter and as the fda warns, it is dangerous. There are other things that we completely ignored. Reporter and johnson S Spokeswoman says that he wants the pandemic to end and hopes the vaccine will play a key role. She said johnson is also and advocate for early treatment. And he wants all drugs researched. A Gop Strategist says that his Frankness Appeals to voters. He is telling it as you sees it and a lot of voters say that is what they want. Reporter and as he grapples to seek another term ill serve two terms. More than enough time. Reporter and controversial comments ossaiing black Lives Matter protestors are threatening. I know they love this country that truly respect law enforcement, would never do anything to break the law. Had the tables been turned and President Trump won the election and those were Tens Of Thousands of black Lives Matter and antifa protestors, i might have been a little concerned. Reporter Johnson Spokeswoman says that he condemned the violence but respects those who protested legally. And meantime johnsons remarks are invigorating a prcrowded field. He is a person who has morphed into the guy who will say the racist part out lied. Were talking real Archie Bunker here. Reporter and with candidates using johnsons words against him. He speaks his truth and unfortunately, he is delusional. Reporter i was talking to one former staffer of Ron Johnson who said what you need to understand about this guy before he was on conservative Talk Radio and conservative television, he was the guy who was listening to conservative Talk Radio and yelling at the television. And in case you are wondering how this is playing with former President Trump, he has already endorsed johnson for a third term even if he hasnt said that he will run get. And i was covering him in 2010 and it was interesting because the senate is a particularly elite place. And i remember talking to him, he didnt really seem like he fit in in that regard. Yeah, he kind of came in as this like conservative business guy, Plastic Manufacturer and people sort of look at him now and they say, notice, what happened. We elected you and you lived in this reality with us and now they see a guy who seems very different. A fascinating report. Thank you for traveling all over wisconsin for that. Here with Exclusive New Reporting Is Cnn White House correspondent, kate bennett. Less than interested, kate, what does that mean . On a scale of melanias interest, which is you know, shes not the most enthusiastic political spouse that American Politics has ever seen. Its not super unusual, i think, that she isnt interested in really picking up the mantle here and going back for a second round. People i spoke to who know her very much think that was a chapter in her life thats over, its private, she wants to return to her private world. She wasnt a prolific presence on the 2016 campaign, either. People stopped seeing her, the campaign stopped asking her if she wanted to do events because the answer was always no. President trump at the time saiD Dont bother her. So shes already sort of set the precedent that is not something she wants to engage in. Look, she didnt come to the White House right away. She waited to come to washington from new york. I wonder, do you know what she thinks about all of this talk of Donald Trump 2024 . I think she thinks its jusT Talk. People i spoke with know that she is sort of allowing Donald Trump to have his political ambitions again. Their lives are independent, always have been, but they do come together, they do discuss things, she does give her opinion. But i think she has established she is independent, she is private, she has not utilized the platform of First Lady that her predecessors have, and i think that is also part of the story, seven months out of the White House, many of them have established offices, foundations, causes that they believe in, that they were inspired by when they were first ladies. Melania trump really hasnt done any of that and i think thats a signal to really show just how disinterested she is in becoming another Second Term First Lady. It took her so long to come out with her initiative, which actually delayed the second ladys initiative, which was pretty interesting. Just didnt have a lot going on there with the counterparts to the President And Vice president. I wonder, in Donald Trumps calculations about running or not, does that dissuade him at all from running, or no . I dont think so. He was never a candidate that sort of needed or wanted the womans voice. So many president ial candidates in modern history rely on their spouse to fund raise or get the suburban voter. Hes never been one of those people. In 2016 he had Ivanka Trump as a surrogate. Again, i think that Melania Trump is an enigma, when she does come out shes incredibly popular with the trump base. But they sort of respect shes private and if it isnt broke, i dont think shes really going to fix it. Who would campaign with him . Thats the thing. I dont think that this is a candidacy that necessarily needs that softening theme. Usually the women are so sex ist and antiquated. They humanize the male candidate, they are able to put a filter over what hes like at home, as a dad or husband. AnD Donald trumps constituency, never to me at least or voters, seemed to need that. And, therefore, i dont Think Melania is essential in his campaign. Nor is she particularly relatable in that sense. I think shes projected a traditional some people call it coldness, whatever you read into it. Getting to know her has been a challenge and thus getting to know him through her would be a fruitless endeavor, i think. Its fascinating, because its kind of unprecedented, yet again, if he does run what its going to look like. Kate, thank you so much. New day continues right now. Good morning to our viewers here in the united states and all around the world. Im john berman, along with brianna keilar. This is a Special Edition of new day. It is monday, september 6th. It is Labor Day, but honestly no holiday for the White House. This morning there are questions about the rollout of Booster Shots for covid thats supposed to start in two weeks. White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain is refusing to say if the goal will be met, but promises the president will follow the science. A source tells cnn the Pfizer Vaccine Booster plan remains on track for the week of september 20th, but it could take a few weeks longer to move forward with boosters from moderna. Now, covid keeps surging with the country averaging 160,000 new cases every day. We havent seen these kinds of numbers since january. They are three times higher than we were seeing last Labor Day, around half of the country right now fully vaccinated. There is a positive sign, and that is a slight drop in hospitalizations. The Delta Variants twomonth surge has generated a sharp rise in public fears about contracting the coronavirus and a reduction in Vaccine Hesitancy. Joining us, cnn senior data reporter, harry anten. I want to start with the good news, vaccinations have gone up. We are seeing a drop in hesitancy. Yeah, we are. Look, i like good news, especially on Labor Day as we head into the fall. Look at this. Will you receive a Covid19 Vaccine . Look at where we are right now among adults, the people who have been eligible the longest. 75 say that they have already gotten one. Thats what the cdc reports. Look how much thats risen since late april. At the same time, what do we see . Unlikely to get the Vaccine Hesitancy has been dropping from 32 in january, down to just 17 now in new abc News Washington Post poll. Thats a good number. Once you start getting down to 10 to 15 , you are getting potentially a very high Vaccination Rate if people follow through. My favorite statistics, maybe that youve ever shown me, is just how popular the Covid Vaccine is. If you can get 75 of american adults to agree on anything, youre in some pretty good territory. Have a Christmas Tree in your home, about 75 of
