The airport has resumed flights to domestic destinations. There are flights to the cities of kandahar. There are also aid flights coming in which is crucial because the country faces a terrible humanitarian crisis. There are no commercial international flights coming in. The difficulty with those flights is damage to the airports and a lack of personnel, Air Traffic personnel. At the moment there is no radar approaching which means that it is almost impossible for flights, commercial flights to come in. But it is a priority for the international community and indeed for the taliban to get that airport back up running. And were expecting strenuous efforts to be made to try to get it running in the coming days. Youre there on the ground in kabul. Can you give us a sense of what it is like at the moment . When the remnants of Hurricane Ida swept through the northeast u. S. Last week, the devastation left behind was catastrophic. Polo sandoval is in New York following the pace of recovery in one of the hardesthit areas. Reporter were in one of those queens neighborhoods that was hit particularly hard by last weeks flash flooding. There are multiple residents in queens that have told me theyre hoping the federal government will come through with some kind of financial Assistance Package that would help them rebuild, in some cases simply repair what they lost during that flash flooding. New York Governor Kathy Hochul called on the biden administration to expedite the kind of sishl assistance, not just for local governments but for New Yorkers as well, those who have been struggling to rebuild. Over the weekend, she actually toured some of these neighborhoods and saw firsthand what many of those neighbors are having to deal with now. The governor signing this new Disaster Declaration with the president s approval potentially leading the way to and kind of individual assistance. Some of these folks would need to replace some of what they lost. We did spend time hearing from some of these folks who said they are worried this help may not come. This is barbara martinez, who turned to a local center here where the city is offering some support. She says thats still not enough, she needs more. I came by here today because i thought i might be able to get assistance. My hot Water Heater is shot, cant get a plumber. My boiler also gone. And all weve been told with everyone thats here today is, call 311, file a complaint. Which i did, and it was closed down. I dont know what to do. We need financial assistance. We need to get back on our feet. Reporter also over the weekend, nypd releasing some very dramatic video that was actually taken on wednesday during the height of the storm. In it you can see officers desperately trying to reach an area that had been submerged underwater. This was one of those Basement Cellar apartments that the city is taking a closer look at. In this particular case, first responders having to pull back until they could actually pump the water out of that living space. This does include the city of new orleans, where the Heat And Humidity will make it feel like its in the Lower 100s at times throughout monday. Look at new orleans. That Heat Index could get up to 97 degrees monday afternoon. It could get up to 95 degrees in morgan city. And gulfport, it could get up to the Mid To Upper 90s as well. The Heat Index is what it feels like on your skin. Your bodys not able to Cool Down efficiently because of the humidity. So the actual thermometer in new orleans the next couple of days that actual reading will be around 85 to 90 degrees. But the humidity will make it feel like its in the Mid To Upper 90s on your skin. And thats extremely dangerous. Thats how you start overheating. And you start having heatrelated illnesses. And considering the fact that so many are without electricity, that means that we dont exactly have that time, that ac to really Cool Down. So do make sure that you stay in the shade, you take it easy if you can, and drink plenty of water if youre out there.
