Ive seen a lot over the last several hours, kaitlan. Let me tell you. Right now im standing in manhattan. The good news is ive made it into manhattan. The Bad News is im 147th and riverside drive. Now, behind me, this is a sight you dont think youre going to see in new York City very much. Which is a tree down blocking the road. Let me do some Hightech Camera Work here and try to spin my camera around here just so you can really get a close look. This is a giant tree. These Trees Line Riverside drive. You can see this one came down overnight and just smashed that poor volkswagon sitting there. And now this road is all but impassable and actually now if you want to see something interesting, now whats happening is these cars are all going the wrong way on a oneway street trying to work their way around the car. I saw a near accident a minute ago someone going the right way tried to come the other direction. You can bet the tempers are flaring. This is amazing. The issue isnt the wind last night. As you said so much rain has fallen in this area this summer and especially over the last few weeks that the ground is just inundated. So you have these trees that just cant stand up anymore. The ground is like slush. And theyve been falling over. Now, as i said, this is the good news. What youre looking at here is the good news in the sense that for me, at least, is i made it into manhattan from where i live about 20 miles north of the city. My way in, this has been like a two and a half hour odyssey, the way in was nuts. I think we have some video of that. We were headed south into the city and at one point the roads were completely stopped at a standstill. Traffic was stopped because all these cars were simply abandoned. You can see in the dark, all these cars just abandoned. They were abandoned on this is the south Ward Direction of the Saw Mill for people who know the city. Cars abandoned, about 20 cars or so abandoned on the South Side of the Saw Mill just left there. The thing is they were all headed in the north direction. Again, these cars have been trying to get around maybe some Flood Waters there. They went to the other side. Headed in the wrong direction. They couldnt take it so the drivers left and went away. I didnt see any drivers in the car there, but i saw all these abandoned cars. The Tow Trucks were just starting to arrive as we pulled out of there. So again, honestly, youre better off not even trying today in new York City. Stay home if you can in New York or new York Area because everywhere you turn scenes behind me like this. Just traech rouse. Its treacherous. Ive never seen anything like this. We should remind people, this is a Flash Flood Emergency, not a watch, not a warning. And the Weather Service says just how rare these are. This is the first time one has ever been declared in new York City. And they say that these are reserved for exceedingly rare situations when extremely heavy rain is leading to a severe threat to Human Life and catastrophic damage. And john, we do know that several people have already unfortunately died. Look, i will tell you that on the way in i have seen ambulances. I was driving through one neighborhood trying to get through. And i saw a man being taken from his house on a stretcher. I can only imagine how hard this is for people with medical conditions. I can only imagine how hard it is for people who may live on the ground floors or below ground with the Flood Waters there. There have been lives lost obviously in the new York City area and New Jersey. As the day goes on, we may learn even more. Thank you, john. Stay safe. Well get back to you. The trees, the ground is extremely soft, so please be careful, of course. I do want to go now to the governor of New York, kathy hochul, who is joining us by phone. Of course, governor, i imagine youve been up all night. What can you tell us about what the latest after this catastrophic flooding that hit New York and the rest of the northeast . Well, yes. This has been absolutely stunning on a scale, people were caught off guard and so shocked. The residents who thought they would safely be able to go down to their basements or take the trains all of a sudden just this absolutely unprecedented Storm Event changed everything. New York City has been paralyzed. Weve been in communication with the mayor hes on top of this as are his teams. Were concerned about the subway. Peoples lives are disrupted when theyre not able to get to their regular commute. We have major disruptions on metro north, the long island railroad. Some restoration in the subways. So we literally through the night had Transit Workers going through the tracks to make sure they were safe. Theres a lot of flooding. No lives lost there. Were very concerned about this. There will be a massive cleanup. But i will continue to urge people to stay home. Check on your neighbors. Give everybody a call. Make sure theyre okay because people are just stunned by what happened last night. And we knew that there was going to be a lot of rain last night. We just didnt know it was going to be this much. What have you heard from officials as this was breaking overnight this happened so quickly so much of this rain we should remind viewers fell in just one Hour W when you look at the numbers in staten island, brooklyn, queens, bronx, unprecedented is almost an understatement. This is first time ever weve had a Flash Flood Emergency declared. I declared a state of emergency last night. And what that does is allow us to deploy more resources and have more flexibility. D. O. T. Trucks can undertaking ativeties they normally would not be able to do. Were engaged. In terms of what were hearing on the ground, people are just shocked by this. This is an event that we start deploying resources to the region the night before and in the morning before and we were preparing for this, but once that rain starts coming down the skies open up and it just was unrelenting. Theres nothing that the people can do other than look up with their jaws dropped and say what is happening here. And the pictures that people are taking and posting on Social Media through the night were just incredible when you think about it. But, you know, we want people to know we have leadership in place working with our cities but also the counties. West chester was hard hit. Still a lot of people without power there. Theres still about 4,000 without power in new York City. Nassau, suffolk were all hit. So ill survey the Damage Today and offering the assistance wherever the County And City leaders need it. And were prepared. New York State is Use Toddy Sassast disasters. You cannot imagine how much rain fell out of the heavens last night. Governor, do you think people should be staying home from work right now . Because we heard thats been a big concern is that people are waking up trying to go to work. Theres no subway really to get on. Theres only about five lines and service and theyre experiencing severe delays. Yes. And the safer place is home right now. And just give us some time to have complete restoration of the trains. We know how to do this. We know what has to be done. The protocols that have to be followed to make sure its Safe Tr for people to go back into the stations and the tunnels. We want people to monitor this site. News. Mta. Info and check that before you leave your house if you are one of our mta commuters. Or take the trains. Make sure you know that the train is running and that its safe to do so. But i would suggest unless you can walk closely to work, you do not want to venture out into the streets until everything is cleared because a lot of debris down. Again, were still restoring power. Its dangerous when theres live Power Lines out there. So, i would just urge people to sit tight and let us do our work. Let us continue cleaning up and well let everybody know when its all over again. This is one for the record books. Theyll be able to tell their grandchildren that they witnessed something that some have said only happens every thousand years. I havent been around that long so im not sure but thats what people are describing. Its unprecedented. Yeah. We were told its a one in a 500year kind of storm. Governor, before i let you go, one question, does new York City especially have the infrastructure to deal with a storm like this . Or are there going to be changes made going forward . You cannot prevent a scale of something like this but the answer is how you prepare in advance and how you respond. New york is prepared for this. We have had so many events from Superstorm Sandy To Tropical Storm Irene to countless events. We deal with flooding all the time in the state. And so, we have the assets. We deploy them early enough so we stand ready to help in any community that lets the state of New York know. Were also contacteding people proactively, saying tell us where you need our help. Well always do an Afteraction Report to find out if any of the systems broke down in the process and i want to know that answer in case it did. But in the meantime, theres just some things you Cant Control and that would be mother nature. Governor hochul, thank you for joining us this morning. Well check back in with you later to see how the assessment of the damage is going and once those subway lines are back up. Next, i want to go to Shimon Prokupecz is assessing whats been going on in the Subway Stations. Last time we checked in with you there were people there since 10 00 p. M. Last night because they simply had no way of getting home. Are there any more lines running than there were about an hour ago . And there are people who have been here since 10 00 p. M. Are still here. I just met another woman here on the other side of the platform here who has been here since last night. There is some glimmer of hope here. Let me show you whats going on as i turn this camera around. This station this train has been sitting here since 9 45 last night. Is going to leave now. But its only going one stop, Downtown South to 34th Street. And what the mta is going to do is theyre going to turn it around at 34th Street and then bring it back up town to that side to get all of those people to work. Many of the people here now are trying to get to work. There are construction workers. Mostly ive seen a lot of construction workers. As you can see here, kaitlan, let me show you the doors here are closing, but this train is only going one stop. Many of the people who are still here are trying to get to brooklyn. And the problem is the power is still out in brooklyn. Thats why this Train Cant go to brooklyn. Theyre still working on those tracks. So what theyre going to do is turn this train around theyre going to pick up all these passengers. I dont know how far up town theyre going. But i can tell you on that side there are people who have been here since last night. I can also tell you in about the last 30 minutes or so let me show you this again, in the last 30 Minutes Someone from the mta finally came down here and started talking to people and explaining to them how they can get home. Other lines. Because some of the other lines are working. The a train is going downtown and it is also going up town. So finally after however many Hours Someone is finally explaining to people how they can maneuver around the subway. Its been really tough for some people here because they have literally spent the night here, sleeping on benches. You can see it in their faces how tired they are. A lot of them coming off work shifts, trying to get Home And Theyve been here since 10 00 p. M. Last night. Couldnt get home because they just cant get in cabs, couldnt afford ubers, couldnt afford cabs so they stayed here all night hoping that somehow the subways will start working and they would be able to get home. Many of them didnt want to leave to get water, to get food because they were so afraid they were going to miss the subway. So hopefully now maybe people can start moving around. Theyve been running some Test Trains as well hopefully for these people out here all night hopefully this means they can get home, kaitlan. Yeah, shimon. Hoping to get service somewhat like normal by The End of the day. I want to bring in Beverly Price A nurse who has been essentially stranded from being able to get home after this flooding happened last night. So, beverly, what happened . You were leaving your house to go to work last night when this flooding got started. Yes, when the flooding started, yes. Were you in an uber . Were you trying to take the subway . I was in the uber white Stone Bridge to connect to a bus. And then there were no Buses Running because of the water. The Bus Wasnt going over the bridge but the bus was coming back to Main Street. I jump on the bus and get off at Main Street to go to Jamaica Avenue and then they say no bus that went to jamaica. Theres 7 feet of water in the road. 7 feet of water in the road. Yeah. So there were no buss going. We know a lot of these buses were stranded. Where were you . Left at a Bus Station . I was left at the Bus Station. Then i have someone at the 7 Train Run in. Yes, but its delayed. I went down to get the 7 train and i was on the 7 train for 20 minutes. Then you got on the 7 train, came over here to where we are on 42nd street. Yes. Were there a lot of people a lot of people. A lot of people stranded down there, yes. How long have you been down there . Oh my god, ive been down there since 11 30 something . Since 11 30 last night . Yes. Because theres no way for you to get home to where you live which is in queens or the bronx . I live in queens. So theres no way for you to get home essentially because ubers were delayed, taxis you couldnt find. There are no buses. No Buses Running. No trains running. So what was it like being down there . A lot of other people also stranded down under ground in the Subway Station with you . Yes, theres a lot of people. A lot of people coming up. A lot of people dont know what to do because number 1 train not going nowhere because service is suspended. How long have you lived in New York . 30 years. Have you ever seen anything like this . Nothing like this. And you are aware of the weather before you went to work last night. Did you expect it to be this severe . I didnt expect it to be this severe. I would not leave my house. Yeah. So how do you plan to get home . What is your plan over the next several hours if those Subway Stations are not restored until The End of the day . Well, i dont know. Someone told me the a train is running. Im trying to get a train or a bus or something. Right now i have to go to queens to brooklyn to take care of my dad. Hes 93 years old. Your dad is in brooklyn . Yeah. Where was he during the storms last night . Brooklyn got a lot of this flooding. Someone was with him in the apartment. Is he on higher ground . Yeah. Yeah. And have you checked in with him today . I check in with my sister. Theyre okay. Thank you, beverly, for joining us. We hope that these Subway Trains start running again soon so you can get home safely and get back to work. Thank you very much. Thank you, beverly. Were going to continue our coverage here in New York, of course. Were seeing a lot of people still unable to get home as beverly was just saying. She was trying to go to work last night. She had been stranded in a Subway Station since 11 30 p. M. We will continue this coverage right after this. Someone who rs Someone Else. I appreciate that Liberty Mutual knows everyones unique. We are in New York where, of course, the northeast has seen a lot of flooding overnight as the remnants of Hurricane Ida have swept the area. There are currently states of emergencies under way in New York and in New Jersey. So right now i want to go to the mayor of passaic, New Jersey, hector laura, where overnight theres been a substantial amount of flooding, at least one person has been killed we were told after being trapped in the Flood Waters. Mayor, what can you tell us about what youre seeing . Were now dealing with the aftermath of the storm. There are still areas that are Flood Wrd were trying to block off the roads and divert all traffic to alternate routes. As you mentioned last night, our city had a tragic loss of life as a result of this storm. An individual was stuck on a street where the levels of Water Rose over six feet. Through the heroic efforts of firefighters, police and emergency responders, two Family Members were able to be rescued out of the vehicle. Unfortunately firefighters began to be pulled under the vehicle and they had to stop their efforts and we lost a life last night, a 70yearold individual. We also have gotten reports of two young adults and they have been swept into the river. This morning our firefighters will be going into the river to attempt to locate the bodies. We continue to try to ascertain whether individuals who are left their vehicles abandoned made it home or in hospitals. Obviously on monday we took all of the pragmatic steps necessary to prepare for the storm, like cleaning storm drains, but No One could predict the impact that this storm would happen with such intense rain all coming down so quickly. It truly devastated areas around our state and specifically here In The City of passaic. And specifically here In The City of passaic. We continue. But i must stress that the efforts and commitment of our police, Fire And Emergency responders resulted in countless lives being rescued and saved. And mayor, how many people are missing right now . Are there people who are unaccounted for . We presently have two individuals who are reported they may have been swept in the river. We have 60 individuals that we evacuated from our Downtown Area because of the potential of the river, which crested last night and came over the banks. We were concerned with the High Tide at 5 00 a. M. , but currently there are two Missing Persons reports were filed. 60 individuals that were evacuated and continue to assess the damage and going to properties that we saw that were flooded. We will be tallying up throughout the day and trying to make sure that every individual is accounted for. Obviously vehicles can be repaired. Property can be replace Bud Loss of life cannot be returned and our priority In The City is to ensure that we can account for every individual that we possibly can. This is why its so important for individuals when they hear reports to stay home and stay off the roads during storms that they please listen because nothing can be so important, more important than your life. Thats whats so unfortunate is that so many people were out On The Road as this flooding has happened. Because it happened much quicker than any one expected. Did you say there was six feet of water in your Downtown Area . There were areas all around our city. In the area where we unfortunately experienced a loss of life, i must say our prayers and support go out to the family of this individual, that area had over six feet of water. The Fire Department and police had to call off efforts because our Fire Truck literally got stuck in the road. We have ambulances stuck On The Road. There were areas in our city where we saw up to eight feet of water because of the intensity and just the areas in our Flood Zone which normally get flooded during storms. But yesterdays storm, again, No One could predict the impact. No one could predict the impact of that storm in our city. Fire trucks getting stuck On The Road. That really does give you an idea of just how much this caught people off guard. Mayor hector lora, thank you. Well come back and check with you and of course were hoping and praying those two people unaccounted for are found soon. Thank you for joining us. You i want to go to Cnns Christine romans also in New Jersey. Christine, last time we checked in with you we were seeing a lot of abandoned cars after people were driving. The mayor said there, they got caught up in these floods. What are you seeing right now . We talked to some of those owners coming back to check on their cars right now and theyre totalled in many cases. The cars behind me were completely submerged last night. Where im standing right now, kaitlan, the water was up to my waist here where im standing. So there was water. These streets were rivers essentially. And people either had to abandon their cars and in some cases the cars were floating from where they had left them in any case. Clifton, New Jersey, is where i am. The schools here were supposed to start today for the first day of school. That has been cancelled. Over in newark, i mean, you can just see when you look at these new pictures we have from downtown, newark, you can just see how much water was standing and you can see how many people had to abandon their cars there as well. And in newark at the airport, terminal b, the Baggage Claim, these pictures were viral as well. The Baggage Claim flooding there. So if youre flying today, be careful, there are going to be more cancellations. Were told the Parking Lots are open now at newark airport. Again, you might want to check ahead of time because what happened here in New Jersey, all over the northeast last night, was record setting. We have just never seen this much water so quickly, three inches an hour at one point here where i am right now. Three inches an hour and it was already a very wet july. July and august. So there was just no place for all of this water to go so quickly. There were also power outages, downed trees. There were Tornado Warnings last night. So this was a really one of a kind kind of storm. Kaitlan, its remarkable really the path this storm took. 1,400 miles, 7 states. This was the Back End of ida. What a devastating, Treacherous Path she took here when she came here. Kaitlan . Yeah, christine. We keep saying the remnants of ida. They were very strong remnants now that they swamped the new York Area and unfortunately its also turned deadly. Thank you, christine. We will check back with you. We have more on the Breaking News here in New York after many people have been left stranded overnight in Subway Stations, Bus Stations, unable to get back to their homes or to their jobs after this flooding caught a lot of people off guard. We have more on that coming up and also more on the Breaking News out of the Supreme Court after they have now broken their silence on that restrictive Texas Abortion Ban. Thats next. My name is monique, im 41, and im a federal contract investigator. As a single parent, i would run from Football Games to work and trying to balance it all. So, what do you see when you look at yourself . I see a person thats caring. Sometimes i care too much, and thats when i had to learn to put myself first, because i would care about everyone all the time but im just as they are. But we are also covering some other Breaking News that happened overnight and thats the Supreme Court breaking its silence and now weighing in on this restrictive Texas Abortion Ban that went into effect the previous night and many had wondered why they had not said anything so far. Now they have saying theyre going to decline to block this restrictive ban. I want to bring in Cnns Joan and jeffrey toobin. Joan, what can you tell us about what the decision was that the Supreme Court has made here and remind our viewers about this Texas State Law and why people were so concerned about it . Sure. Good morning, kaitlan. I cannot overstate the magnitude of what happened last night by a 54 vote for women in texas, for constitutional rights nationwide and for the justices themselves and their relations with each other in a very bitterly divided set of opinions the justices let explained why they had not intervened the night before when this Texas Ban on abortions went into place. And as you say, remind our viewers that its essentially a Sixweek Ban on abortions. Most women dont even know theyre pregnant at six weeks. And the law in texas had an unusual Enforcement Mechanism in which State Officials arent the ones who are going to ensure this ban but rather private citizens have socially been deputized to report and bring a case against anyone who assists, Aids And Abets a woman with who is more than six weeks pregnant to have an abortion. The justices had let this take effect at midnight a day ago and last night with two minutes before midnight, kaitlan, the justices issued this opinion. The five conservatives in an unsigned opinion, it was justices alito, thomas and the three new Donald Trump appointees, neil gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett said they do not see the injury right now to women or to Health Clinics that brought the case in letting this law take effect. That right now there are too many complicated legal issues. In some ways conveniently threw up their hands to say this is something we cant handle this time. Justice Sonya Sotomayor said theyre hiding their hands in the sand. Chief Justice John Roberts appointed by george w. Bush signed on with the decenters saying this is unprecedented, such an unusual law. It appears to be written To Evade Judicial Review and thats exactly what happened here. Again, i just Cant Stress this moment. One last little postscript, it was one year ago this month that ruth Bader Ginsburg suddenly died. And Amy Coney Barrett succeeded her. This case last night is only possible because of these new five justices. And the absence of ruth Bader Ginsburg. Yeah. Donald trump is no longer in office but were still seeing the reverberations of that decision and that time that he did have. Jeffrey toobin, what is your response to this dramatic move by the Supreme Court . Well, i think just the moment important thing to emphasize is that texas, a state with 29 Million people in it, abortion is illegal for all intents and purposes. This has never happened in an american state since 1973 when roe v. Wade was decided. I mean, this is an enormous event in the lives of the american people and of course especially american women. Because this has been a constitutional right that has been understood and reaffirmed over and over again by the Supreme Court. But Donald Trump said repeatedly he was going to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will vote to overturn Roe Versus Wade and thats what they have done along with Samuel Alito and clarence thomas. And they have done it in a way that i think calls into question the legitimacy of the court as an institution. They didnt even wait to hear a full argument of a case. They just sort of did it on the spur of the moment without hearing a full case by declining to intervene in this case, they have effectively overturned roe v. Wade in texas if not in the whole country. And i think, you know, at least the Supreme Court owes us is explanations for what they do and we didnt even get that from them yesterday. Yeah. It is surprising we did not get any kind of explanation behind this. And as you just said, trump said when he was coming into office those are the justices he wanted to see on the Supreme Court. So, it wasnt exactly a surprise to anyone. But Senator Susan collins repeatedly insisted as they were confirming several of these and including the last one that President Trump had, former President Trump had confirmed amy kconey barrett, she believe Roe Versus Wade was settled law. I do not believe that breath kavanaugh. His precedents overturned. He noted that roe had been reaffirmed 19 years later by Planned Parenthood Versus Casey and that it was precedent on precedent. He said it should be extremely rare that it be overturned. And it should be an example so you have obviously full confidence . I do. Well, so much for that. Yeah. So much for that. You know, i think a lot of people kaitlan, the whole point it has been precedented. Susan collins and the Dissenting Justices Last Night said look at where our country has been for nearly 50 years to in just after 72 hours of thought essentially as Justice Kagan said to effectively reverse it is a major development. Jeffrey, go ahead. Well, no. It just i dont know if Susan Collins was deluting herself or being dill luted or simply lying or was lied to by brett k kavanaugh. I think everyone knew or most people knew at the time what she was saying was not likely to be vindicated and it now has been proven to be false. But, you know, this you know, i remember when i covered Supreme Court nominations and John Mccain always used to say elections have consequences. And Donald Trump was elected and there were three vacancies during his tenure. And he filled them with abortion rights opponents. That was one of the major issues or should have been in the campaign and now were seeing the consequences. And believe me, this is just the beginning. Texas will be a model for the rest of the country. The Red States that want to ban abortion and they are already starting to do it. So we are heading to a system where there will be abortion illegal in major tparts of the country, not the whole country, because many Blue States will keep the right, but we are heading very quickly to a system where abortion will be illegal in a third or more of the country. Jeffrey and joan, thank you both very much. Well be waiting to see what President Biden has to say but he has not weighed in but yesterday he said this Texas Ban he believed violated constitutional rights. I do want to get back to the other Breaking News, though, here in New York and in New Jersey, where the remnants of Hurricane Ida have swamped the area, left many people stranded, either in Subway Stations, in cars, on buses, in their homes at least eight people are now dead and so i want to bring in the New York democratic new York City mayoral democratic nominee eric adams. Eric adams, what are you seeing this morning . And what did you hear about this overnight as this flooding really caught everybody off guard . Yes, thank you so much for having me on. And it caught everyone off guard. I spent almost until 4 00 a. M. This morning just really moving around the city. Early in the evening for the first time i saw complete flooding on the outbound side of the brooklyn bridge. I never witnessed that before while i lived In The City. And its just was a real devastation. The number of lives that were lost and its a real Wakeup Call to all of us how we must understand how this Climate Change is impacting us. And eric, what are people who are stuck supposed to do . I was just talking to beverly price. She was on her way to work last night. She has been stuck in a Subway Station since 11 30 p. M. Last night and was with other people stuck there since 10 00 p. M. They have no way to get home. What are they supposed to be doing right now . Right now its imperative to wait this out. We have people stuck on trains. As a former transit police officer, one of the most dangerous things you can do is to walk on the Track Areas and leave the train. You have to allow the Emergency Service individuals and organizations and agencies to get in, get the people out of the system. Right now this is one of those moments where you have to wait this out, let the water recede and let the emergency people get in and do their job. This is where we are at this moment. Eric adams the democratic nominee for mayor of new York City, thank you for joining us this morning. I know you had a late night. Well check back in with you later. Up next, we are going to continue with our coverage of what is happening here in New York. John berman has arrived on the scene and he will be joining us live right after this. So, the situation is, we had just as much rain up there around the city, 3 to 5 inches. It came down so quickly. Trees down, just everywhere because the ground has been saturated. Roads impassable. That wasnt the worst of it. The worst is the parkways and highways headed into the city catastrophic flooding overnight and we have seen some of the video, there were just cars abandoned. Abandoned the middle of the road. At one point, traffic going in was at a standstill. And i saw, you know, 20ish cars just abandoned on this parkway. And clearly there have been Flash Flooding. The ground was covered in this mud and this dirt and these cars were just left there. No drivers to be seen. And they were all headed in the wrong direction so every one overnight must have been scrambling to get to where they could. So wherever the roads were closed, people were trying to work around the closed off areas and navigate their way into the city and its just a mess. Its really difficult to get in. And its a Flash Flood Emergency, the first time its ever happened in new York City, which is higher than a Flash Flood warning. Thats what i think most people are familiar with. Flash flood watch, a warning, this is a Flash Flood Emergency reserved according to the Weather Service for events where there is potentially the threat of catastrophic damage to not only Property And Transportation but Human Life. And weve seen that unfortunately now we were just talking to the mayor of New Jersey who was saying that people were swept away in Flood Waters. They have people unaccounted for. And we know eight people have died here in New York now as a result of this. These are deadly effects from Hurricane Ida. I believe it. I saw on the way in, i saw ambulances when we had to wind our way through neighborhoods taking people out of homes on stretchers, whether they had had medical emergencies and couldnt get out because of the floods. Whether because they were stuck in water maybe in their basements or first floors, i dont know. But clearly there are a lot of people affected and you could tell it was i did see in addition to Cars Abandoneds accidents. Where you had Cars Point and had smashed in ways that were just unnatural. Clearly swept away at different times. Right. I think the Question Weve seen in new York City is how people are getting home because that has been a massive problem where people were out about as this happened. It happened so quickly here. It wasnt a slow rainfall that happened over the course of several hours. This happened where a lot of this fell in one hour and people were out commuting. We talked to beverley price. She was on her way to work. She tried to get to the bus stop. They said there are no buses, no buses coming. She got to the subway. Its delayed, she got on one and could not get to another. Shes been here, not at home, not at work since 11 30 p. M. Last night. The subway is the main artery people use to get around here. Its incredibly delayed. Theyre hoping to get it back online fully by the earned of the day. Right now as people are going to work, a lot of them are walking, weve seen some driving. Nowhere near the level of traffic you see over in Times Square this time of the morning. Normally this place would be packed. I would say given what ive seen the last 2 1 2, three hours, this is a little bit of an Odd Scene seeing people out. Im thinking there are people here who maybe went to bed, you know, at 8 30 or 9 00 last night, are waking up now seeing blue sky. They dont know what happened. But if you just get a little bit out of the city where these roads are just a mess, really, you cant imagine going to work today like these people here are who can just walk out of their homes. And the governor of New York was saying they dont want people going to work right now. They want people staying home so these Emergency Crews can get there to assess the damage because that, of course, is a big concern. That a lot of people were unreachable last night as this was playing out. It played out overnight. People werent home. They were In The City. If you had cell phones, you did get warnings, these Flash Flood warnings. Its not that you dont pay attention to them, you do, but you dont understand what it means if youre in the new York City area or the northeast. What do you know about Flash Floods here . We havent really had this type of Flash Flood as you were just saying. Right. Im not sure people even knew how to react to that type of warning. No, i think people thought we talked about it yesterday. We thought there was going to be a lot of rain here. Eric adams said he has never seen something like this since hes lived in New York. We were saying this is the level of this. You expect a lot of rain. Youre not expecting this much. Our friend brian stelter, he is an anchor of variety of sources.
