Afghanistans effective government. U. S. Military leaders say a decision to extend the withdraw dead line must be made by today. Because that would provide enough time to make plans for pulling out the 5800 troops on ground In Kabul when the mission ends as well as to remove equipment and weapons. More than 21,000 people were evacuated from afghanistan in just the last 24 hours. And an unprecedented operation. 4500 people are now waiting for evacuation flights inside of Kabul Airport this morning. A little more calm than in recent days. Cnns Jeremy Diamond is at the White House with more on the G7 Meeting underway. I suppose the question is will White House officials bracing themselves for a bit of shilacking from their allies on this. Reporter there is no question that they know that President Biden is going to face tough questions and pressure from the allies. Especially the United Kingdom and france who have been vocal about the need to extend the Withdrawal Deadline past August 31st for afghans that have helped the u. S. And other foreign nationals an the afghans that have helped other coalition forces. The u. S. Has the largest force on the ground at Kabul Airport and facilitating Air Traffic Control and the security of the airport and coordinating that security with the taliban on the perimeter. But the taliban are being adamant that they will not allow the united states to extend the deadline past August 31st which raises the question of how President Biden will handle that increasingly firm position from the taliban. We know that in the leadup to this G7 Meeting and this advice from Military Leaders that the president needs to decide today if that withdrawal is going to go forward. That yesterday the Cia Director Bill burns met In Kabul with the taliban deputy leader, one of the top political leader currently In Kabul and a cofounder of the taliban, a remarkable meeting that we understand was made at the direction of the President Of The United States who asked ambassador burns, the cia director, to go to kabul and meet with him, clearly part of this in the leadup to this decision by the president as to whether or not to extend that August 31st deadline. So well see, but today again, jim, does indeed appear to be decision day. That g7 leaders meeting underway and the president expected to speak this afternoon to address the american people. Jim. Well well be waiting for that decision. Jeremy diamond, thank you very much. This morning as pressure builds on President Biden to extend that deadline for u. S. Troops to withdraw, evacuation efforts, theyve been accelerating. Both inside the Kabul Airport, but also outside. Right now there are around 7,000 evacuees handgun housed in germany. Theyre waiting there, kind of a Midway Point before departing to the u. S. Atooka is live. What happens there and for how long. Reporter well for how long is the big question. And for me evac uees it is the only question. Many still wearing the white wristbands that get them access into Kabul Airport. Some have been here for two days and they tell us that they expect to be here for possibly up to seven days while they get processed and by processed i mean figure out who are u. S. Citizens, Green Card holders or special visa holders. Once they have that cleared up and that is the responsibility of the State Department then they board a flight to the united states. We saw this morning one of the first commercial flights that have now been activated to bring Eva Evacuees to the u. S. , a delta Airlines Flight and about 700 people have left the Air Base and should be in the united states. So the process is moving forward. But it is slow when you consider that there are about 7,000 people here and only about 700 who have left so far. What a remarkable change for the people going from a taliban controlled afghanistan to the u. S. Perhaps in a matter of days. Atooka schubert, thank you. The United Nations have received what it described as harrowing and incredible reports of executions of civilians and new restrictions on womens rights under the taliban in afghanistan. That is the word from the u. N. High commissioner on Human Rights speaking this morning at a u. N. Emergency session in geneva. What is the risk to women there . People who work for the u. S. And others . Joining me now are people doing their best to save lives. Kelly deconsillas who sits on board of advisers for the Institute Of World Politics and Leslie Shwighter and founded a university for afghan women. Thank you so much to both of you. I know you have incredible l lifesaving work youre trying to do right now. So i want to ask you to help our viewers understand the need and what it is like. Kelly, could i begin with you. Youve spent years in the Intelligence Community and you know how this kind of stuff works. Tell us what the is that the womens whose lives are trying to save are facing right now, women who attended university there . Sure. Well first, jim, thank you for having me on. Let me talk because it changes every hour, the situation on the ground. And it is significantly changed over the last ten hours. The shift of power is fully in the Talibans Court for any entry right now into hkai which is the airport In Kabul. The taliban has set up a blockade out of the perimeter known as chevron so not letting anyone through as of right now. Men and women have been beaten, whipped, shot, killed and within the government contractor community, the hkai gates are known right now at the gaunt lent. I could tell you this, even the british military who have been wildly more successful than the u. S. And bringing their sivs and own citizens through The Gates are now at a stand still according to our reports on the ground. That is a remarkable and alarming development. Youre saying no access to the airport for these people right now, kelly . Reporter that is correct. There is no access as of right now. I also did receive a report about two minutes ago that the Aircraft Fuel is also running low on the military side. So this may effect the pace of the evacuations moving forward. Goodness. That is sad news to hear. Leslie, i want to speak to you. You founded what is a remarkable institution in afghanistan, a university for women. Right now, there was some 600 female students that you wanted to help get out because they are under threat there from the taliban. Were you able to get out about 50. What happens now . What threat to the women face now . We hear of the taliban going doortodoor marking doors with red Spray Paint to identify them as students. Thank you, jim and thank you for having me on. Let me just make one correction. I have been involved in the university for about 15 years but it was really mrs. Laura bush that is responsible for founding the university and it is coed, it is the only not for profit private Coed University in the history of afghanistan. And today, actually, marks the 15th anniversary of a complex Terrorist Attack that we had on campus that killed seven students and a total of 15 people. So i dont think we thought at that time that our moment could become darker but it is today. I spent time yesterday, im in doha with some of our students that weve been able to evacuate and it was a fascinating experience to talk to these, all of these girls. One of them said, i only left afghanistan with my passport and some afghan soil. And she said to me, she said, i miss my family, it was a terribly difficult thing to leave. But i need to continue my education. And then she told me that she wanted to write a book and she wanted to go back and to the country. So this is a kind of courage that were dealing with. These students have had to have courage to belong to the university from day one. Yep. As american university of afghanistan, a Coed University. Theyve been brave from day one. No question. A Coed University and taliban paying attention to the female Students Something they dont believe in. The taliban has given u. S. Forces until The End of the month to leave the country. It is a week away. President has an important decision today, is that enough time to evacuate the thousands in that country that still want to leave . So, it is a question that i push back on when people say do we need more time . Yes, of course we need more time to get as many people out. But i think the question that we need to be asking is or even pushing is we need to change the paradigm of currently what is going on outside of The Gates. As as of right now, you have the 82nd Airborne inside of the gate and we need them to secure one gate even if it is one owe two hours every day to allow Safe Passage for people to come in. You truly cannot get through from a mile out. There are multiple checkpoints. Within the community were trying our best and using maps to tell people where to go. But it is such a precarious situation right now. It is extremely difficult to do. Im hearing from others as well that they cant get even secure convoys to the airport. Theyve been turned away. Leslie, youre university was an example of progress in education. Your university that helped work for, for women and for men too, an open education. Is that all of this progress now lost with the taliban now taking over . Would you like to think not, jim. Our in tent is to continue this university. I will tell you that Qatar Ambassador has been a hero to us In Kabul helping us to get our students out of the country. We will continue these efforts to get our students out of the country. Education city will be the hub of our new university as we develop Satellite Campuses at the American University In and in kurdistan and Central Asia and other locations. This university will not close. We are continuing. And our hub will be doha. And well be involving with education city. Our students will be able to continue attend the american university of afghanistan, but also they hold classes at georgetown and northwestern and carnegie mellon. So we will continue. Kelly, that is for the lucky ones that could get out. There are many who arent getting out. An alarming when weve spoken about how real the risk is to them to convey to ourers the urgency of this need, tell us what may await students who are left behind . Sure. So i think something that the narrative that we hear a lot right now in the news is the taliban going doortodoor. But i dont know if the public truly appreciates what exactly that means. So the taliban is using everything from Night Vision goggles to Sniper Rifles and armored vehicles supplied bus us through the streets Of Kabul looking for those who worked with or supported the view of the west. So as you could imagine, anyone that is worked as an afghan national Security Force like you said earlier on program, they mark their homes with Spray Cans to label the occupants who are family members, i have heard horrifying reports of young women having their Head Scarves pulled off and hair set on fire, raped or killed or they become property of the taliban. So as you can imagine, jim, young female students from american university absolutely unequivocally qualify for this most vulnerable status. We need to get them out of this country. Young women as property of the taliban. Goodness. Listen, kelly and leslie, we know you have tremendous work to do here. We hope you get the help that you need. And thank you for coming on this morning. Thank you. Thank you, jim. Well, this morning a developing story. We learned that the president , the Vice President harris, her Travel Delegation from singapore was delayed because of what theyre describing as a possible anomalous health incident. Natasha bertrand is here to explain what that means. This is about concerns about a potential attack on americans . Yeah. So u. S. Officials dont exactly know what the anomalous health incidents are. Whether theyre attacks or kind of the incidental symptoms that people are experiencing because of some kind of, you know, spying by foreign adversaries. This is the havana syndrome. Right. So this is something affecting hundreds of diplomats globally for a number of years now. And their symptoms range from the worst which is things like traumatic Brain Injury to vertigo to nausea so sometimes it forced Career Government officials to retire. And the u. S. Government doesnt know what is causing the incidents. The best guess that they have right now is it is some kind of directed Energy Device that a foreign adversary is directing at cia officials, at diplomats globally. But again, as i mentioned, it could also be that these foreign adversaries are trying to collect intelligence that then have the weird side effects. So at this point, we dont know why the Vice President actually decided to delay her trip to vietnam. Whether this was perhaps like a member of her advanced Team Or Someone at the embassy who reported these symptoms. Details are scarce but it is difficult enough to delay this. Youll stay on top of what happens next. Thank you very much. Still do to come, President Bidens agenda in jeopardy. Could Nancy Pelosi break the stalemate with her own party. Sources are telling cnn now that house democratic leaders and moderates are close to a deal after clashing last night over the last several days over infrastructure, the Budget Resolution, when they vote on what. Cnns Melanie Zanona is on Capitol Hill to break down the details. Moderates spoke to one of them yesterday on the air, they want the Infrastructure Vote first, theyve been insisting on it. Progressives tied to the larger Budget Resolution. Is there a meeting of the minds . Is there is a way to make both sides happy . Reporter after a tense standoff, cnn has just learned that House Democrats are now closing in on a deal that would allow them to move forward on both the bipartisan Infrastructure Bill as well as the Budget Blueprint that will set the stage for a massive Reconciliation Package that includes so much of bidens economic agenda. Speaker pelosi telling House Democrats in a Caucus Meeting that they are close to landing the plane. Not quite there yet, though. What were learning about this emerging deal is it would have three main elements. Number one, it could include a guaranteed passage of September 27th for for the bipartisan Infrastructure Deal. So they would wrap up a procedural and final Passage Vote all into one and number three it would also include nonbinding sense of Congress Language to sort of spell out the entire procedural process which has been a source of the Tension And Drama in the caucus. So things are moving in the right direction. This is certainly a good sign. It is not quite finalized and we are still waiting to hear reaction from the progressive wing of the party. But, look, all of this underscores how fragile the democratic majority is and how complicated this process is. Tension in the caucus. That could be a netflix series. Thank you. What is happening . Now joining me now Catherine Clark of massachusetts, serves on Appropriations Commissions and thanks so much for taking the time this morning. You heard my colleague there outline a potential deal here. Is that accurate in your view and are you close . Well, thanks, jim. It is good to be with you. And yes, we are close. Negotiations are ongoing. We are trying to address all of the concerns that members have with process. But coy tell you what gives me great confidence is that every member that ive spoken to is committed to the build back better agenda. We know this is our moment for Transformational Change to put Working Families at the center of our economy. And that is exactly what, with President Bidens help, we are going to do. Okay. So well be on the floor shortly. I am confident that we are going to be able to address the concerns of process because we understand what is at stake. Okay. And it means an inclusive economy. So, if true, there is a vote then on the infrastructure, bipartisan Infrastructure Deal by September 27th, that gives the moderates what they wanted, they wanted that vote first. What did the progressives get in terms of commitment on the broader agenda . Because there is disagreement in the caucus over the Size And Scope of that . You know, what we have always said is that we are not going to leave women and Working Families behind. This is a yesand situation. Yes, celebrate the bipartisan Infrastructure Bill but it is the foundation. We also need to make sure that as we are looking at a 33year low of women participating in the work force, that we are looking at that and doing everything that we can to establish universal prek and expand childcare and make sure families have access to home care, these are critical pieces of the build back better agenda and were going to bring them together because we know that this comprehensive Transformational Change. This is our opportunity. The american people elected us because they want to see action. The process issues are going to resolve themselves. But what were going to do is bring this change to the american people. Yeah. And quickly. Well on that bigger plan as you know, it is not just process. There are fundamental public disagreements over the price tag. 3. 5 trillion underestimates the cost when you run it through cbl estimates. Not only do you have nine House Democrats who say that is too high, you have Joe Manchin and you need his vote in the senate to get this stuff through too who said it is too high. Are you, is the leadership, are progressives willing to deal on the size and the cost of this to bring that number down . Listen, we are going to look at the size of this and how we pay for it and we have very strong proposals to pay for it by making our Tax Code fair. Making it work for Working Families. Far too often it is worked only for the very wealthy and for corporations. We are saying it is time that we put forward a package that is paid for and that makes sure that we are building back better with a more inclusive economy. That is our commitment. Our pact with the american people. And that is what were going to do. Okay. But Today Beginning of that process, today we are going to pass a Budget Resolution and we are going to pass the John Lewis Voting rights act to make sure that we are doing both things. Protecting our democracy, making sure that every american has that right to vote, and making sure that every american can participate fully in our economy. Okay. Okay. To work and make those investments in climate change, and in our Working Families that americans demanding. I guess those priorities. But you mentioned taxes. That is another issue of disagreement within the democratic caucus. That is been an issue for representative gottheimer and others. Are you, as the leadership and crucially are the progressives because you need their votes, willing to negotiate on Tax Hikes in that broader deal to pay for it . Is that a red Line Issue . Listen, jim, we are first and foremost legislators. So, yes, we are going to negotiate. This is a starting line. But i tell what you is not negotiable, is that we dont act at this moment. This pandemic has exposed an exacerbated challenges of american people. The challenge of women and women of color in participating fully and getting paid a decent wage that they could raise a family on. We see the american people and the challenges that they face and were going to meet them. And we are going to do it by making the System Work for them. That is our commitment to the american people. That is what were going to do. Well folks you heard it there first from the Deputy Speaker that theyre close to making a deal on this. Congresswoman Catherine Clark, thank you so much for joining us. This tremendous display of a Team Work and focus resulted in a Passenger Count of 12,600 individuals leaving afghanistan in just 24 hours. To date 63,900 american citizens, nato and other partners, personnel, afghan, Siv Applicants and vulnerable afghans have out of harms way. Now safer and on their journey to a better life. And a majority of these people, approximately 5,000 or 58,700 of them have left just since august 14th. I want to reiterate that were able to achieve this level of increased departures because of u. S. Military personnel and our partners work around the clock to conduct this highly important mission. Including airport security, and flight operations. To that end, were seeing Increases Pace and increased pace in the Flight Schedule at kabul. As of yesterday, in the last 24 hour period, one aircraft left on or about every 45 minutes. As we look beyond kabul, and in order to maintain a steady flow out of afghanistan. We rely on the intermediate stages and Safe Havens in Cent Com and the ucom aors and processing and facilitating on ward movement. It is been challenging to keep up with the flow. But we are made progress in caring for and safeguarding these vulnerable individuals and getting them moving on ward. We are committed to doing more. And to continue to expand and improve our facilities. From adding shelter to additional sanitation, Hand Washing stations, refrigerator trucks, providing Cold Water and the appropriate food and were working with our partners to increase this capacity as soon as possible. In the U Com aor, they have started departing to on ward destinations. So far 500 ark and travelers have been screened and departed for the united states. U com has received 8,000 evacuees since August 20th and considering German And Italy and spain in preparation to receive more flights to allow greater throughput to the united states. As i mentioned yesterday, the number of temporary Safe Haven locations across europe and The Middle East now stands at 14. This allows us to expedite Movement Out Of Kabul and gives us flexibility from the station bases. Were is appreciative to of the support from our allies and partners. We remain focused on the mission of bringing as many people home as quickly as we can. An update on North Com operations. In the past 24 hours, four flights landed at Dulles International Airport with more than A Thousand passengers. Again, these passengers and their families will go to one of the four Military Instillations designated as processing locations. All of this progress stems from the Team Work and professionalism, especially of our Inner Agency partners here in the states. We know more hard work remains, that our personnel in afghanistan remain vigilant and we share the sense of urgency in this effort. Well continue to keep you updated on afghanistan through the week. Lastly, as we look at haiti, the Department Of Defense continues to support the u. S. A. I. D. In haiti, they conducted 56 missions and assisted in the saving of 40 lives and delivered more than 35,000 pounds of good supplies and medical supplies to the people effected by the 7. 2 Magnitude Earthquake in haiti. Four united states marine Corp N22 ospreys arrived to provide additional options for personnel and supply. These are in addition to the Coast Guard Aircraft supporting humanitarian relief operations. U. S. Maritime vessels continue to support also. That concludes my update. Thank you, john. Okay. Before we get to questions i have a slight update on the baby count. As The General let you know yesterday, three babies total just to clarify, one was born on the c17, that is the one i think you know about. The two other were born shortly after arrival at ramstine in the hospital there on base. So two were born at the in the hospital shortly after arrival. Im told that moms and dads and babies are all fine and healthy and all is looking good there and if we could get more information on this, ill be able to provide it a little bit later. Leta. John, a couple of questions. I know that you are not going to be able to answer whether or not the deadline is going to be extended beyond the 31st. But can you give us some perspective from the military, can you get all americans out in the next several days by the 31st . Do you need more Military Bases in the united states to house them . Do you need more through putt in order to get that done . And do you need to increase the pace . Go ahead, keep going. And the other day The General told us there were about 2500 americans that had gotten out but that number has increased over the last several days about how many have gotten out so far. About how many americans. Okay. So all the deadline, im going to miss some of these, leta, so walk me back. Youre right, there has been no change to the timeline of the mission which is to have this completed by The End of month. We continue to make progress every day in getting americans as well as Siv Applicants and vuln vulnerable afghans out and you heard the number that The General briefed just a minute ago and the vast majority of these individuals are afghans. So, we are remaining committed to getting any and owl americans that want to leave to get them out and we still believe certainly now that we have been able to increase the capacity in the flow, we believe that we have that that we have the capability, the ability to get that done by The End of the month. You asked for i think bases. Here in the united states was another one. Do you believe you need to increase the number . That is possible. That we might be looking at additional u. S. Military instillations here in the united states. Right now we are looking working with four of them. Fort lee, Mcguy And Bix and in new jersey. Those are the operating now and beginning to see a flow of Siv Applicants. And it is very well possible that we could need to use additional u. S. Military installations here stateside as we make those decisions and as were able to announce them, we certainly will. But we want to make sure, just like In Kabul, that airlift wasnt a limb iited factor. When we get individuals to the united states, that temporary, safe, secure and accessible temporary lodging is not the limiting factor to their ability to get on with their new lives and to finish the process. Im sure you have three others that i forgot about. The general told us that 2500 have gotten out. What is your assess. Now as to the fub that have gotten out of afghanistan and do you think you could get all of them out. I think ill answer the second part of that. I think for all americans who want to leave, the State Department is working very hard to contact them and we are getting them out every day. And that is not going to change. And i understand the question about the specific detail. I would just tell you that several thousand, we know several thousand americans have been safely evacuated from afghanistan. I understand that is not the degree of specificity that you want but that is as far as i could go today. Several hundred just yesterday were able to get on to the airport for follow on transportation. So it is every day we are moving americans out of the country. Tara. Barring any factors, do you anticipate that you will be able to keep this Pace Up for another 20,000 in the next couple of days to maybe have 100,000 evacuated by The End of the week. That is definitely the plan, tara. But as you know, the through put is a function of many different factors including weather. So our plan is to continue this pace as aggressively as we can. You heard general lion speak to that i think very specifically yesterday. That is the goal. That is the intention. One final one for you. The babies that were born on the aircraft and on the at the u. S. Side of the military base, are they considered american citizens. Weve gotten that question. That is a good question. We dont know the answer to that. Ill have to punt to my colleagues at the State Department or immigration. I dont know the answer to that. And just to remind it was born on the aircraft at flight and two born shortly after the flight arrived into ram stein. If i could get you any more details, i specertainly will. And there is an opportunity for now seeking speakers for Keesler Airport bases. I dont have any announcement on future possible instillations that might be of use. We will do this in a rolling fashion, tara, as if and when we decide we need additional installations, well let you know as soon as we possibly can. John, has the u. S. Started preparations to leave in order to leave by August 31st . When does the u. S. Military have to begin making those preps . When does that decision have to be made. Im not going to get into a specific tiktok here. Just as when we were talking about the retrograde out of afghanistan at large for the military, we were very careful about the details that we provided. The threat around the airport is real so im going to be equally as judicious about the information that we give out. But roughly speaking you need at least several days to get the amount of forces and equipment that we have at the airport to get that safely and effectively retrogrades. I wont get into a specific tiktok. And this is going to be the pace and whatever the daily extraction is going to be, that is going to be up to the commanders on the ground to determine what they are going to move and how and when they are going to do it because we have a mission all the way through to continue these evacuations. So you have to be able to do both and it is a balance. And the secretary is going to trust the judgment of our commanders on the ground to properly meet that balance. But it sounds like youre still working on an August 31st deadline. Were absolutely still aiming toward The End of the month. And are the public statements by the taliban the same as the private statements being made to u. S. Officials . About the deadline and when u. S. Should leave. I could tell you is that the taliban have have been very clear about what theyre expectations are as well. But the public and private statements are the same . Without getting into details, im not seeing much dissidents. And you could talk about the Fire Fight that took place today, a Second One Outside of the airport and there were some arrests by the by the taliban of some socalled isis people taking videos of the airport. I dont have those details. Were working with Cent Com as that is currently ongoing. So i know that Cent Com has continued to do that and there is no security, if you would, breach or any problems there at the security of the airfield. Is the u. S. Providing any intel to the taliban about an isis threat. I know the commanders on the ground continue to communicate to ensure that the safety of not only around The Gates but the other checkpoints so that he we could continue to process vulnerable afghans, other coalition folks and american citizens in. When this evacuation began, there were already close to A Thousand u. S. Troops at that airport. So just to be clear, when were talking about pulling u. S. Troops out, were talking about pulling all of the troops, where you go to zero at the embassy, is that correct . No, i followed the question. That is correct. So you have to take out more than you put in . Yes. Yes im so how does that happen without the active cooperation of the taliban to keep the crowds away as u. S. Troops first thin out their perimeter and then pull back. How about The General takes that in just a second because i think hes much more informed than i am. But were just making the larger issue that any retrograde out of or drawdown if you will, out of an environment that you cant assume that is always going to be permissive, is one that has to be done very carefully and it has to be sequenced in a very methodical way so that the Safety And Security of our people and the people who we are trying to protect is considered of paramount importance. And so we arent going to be able to tell you, once we start to effect this withdraw, and like i say were still planning on end of the month, were not going to provide a tiktok every day of exactly what were moving out and at what pace. So that we could limit vulnerabilities in the Information Space and in the actual physical space of the airport as we move out. But it is all done in a very careful methodical way so that you could preserve as much capability to the very end that you need and as well as security, for our folks an the people that we are trying to safely evacuate. But ill turn it over to The General. Mr. Kirby, you covered that very well. I would just add to that is that security is para mount during any phase of an operation. So as you look at, as we go forward here, the Dmcommanders E going to continually communicate and coordinate to ensure that security is set to allow all of those flight operations, all of those things to continue to The End. Does the methodical and orderly withdraw that he just referred to, does that require the assistance of the taliban . I mean it requires the coordination that i think were doing right now. To maintain that security. Yeah, there is no question that, david, as we work through this, the daily communication with taliban commanders is going to have to continue. That is just a hard fact. Does their promise of cooperation expire on August 31st. Im not going to speculate about or even speak for them or for their intentions. That we are again, we are the the mission has been to end on the 31st. That is the assumption that we are working towards. And well just have to keep moving forward. Carla. Thank you. Are there any additional Air Evacuations in the city Of Kabul, has the u. S. Military did any revacuations of any sort outside of the city Of Kabul because there are a lot of mesh americans not In Kabul. Ill let The General take that. When you talk about evacuations, you mean going out and we continue to closely coordinate to ensure the safe arrival of americans and others on hkai. So we have not gone any further Air Operations this time but as i said earlier we continue to ensure the capabilities that weve had and as required that were able to do so. Is there a plan in place to help Extract Americans who are outside Of Kabul at this point . We are always planning and assessing what needs to be done to help americans get to hkai to Kabul Airport. I havent gotten to the phones at all. Let me start doing that. I need my glasses. Jack from foreign policy. Thanks, john. Im just wondering, do you have a specific update on the the through put now obviously youve obviated the 9,000 number and you mentioned the evac flights but is there a update on your goals for daily throughput. I think as you go back to what general lion said last night and for those that right now the pace, the throughput that were able to maintain, as i said earlier, about is a plane every 45 minutes. But also that is also driven upon the requirement of what needs to be taken out. So right now we assess that we have the required air flow, not only u. S. Military but as you said, you saw the numbers of our coalition or our other partners that are coming in. We assess that well be able to maintain the throughput that weve seen in the last two days and then we will continue to assess what the requirements are from here forward of what we have to get that throughput into kabul. So youre looking at about 20,000 per day . I actually, i were trying to get as many out as we can. And so if we could exceed what our previous expectations were and vefwe have and that is a Go Thing and continue to drive that at that. Two questions. Firstly is the intention to get every american out as want to live and as as many Siv Holders or as many afghans out as many americans that we could get out as fast as possible and as many of our Siv Applicants that we could get them out as fast as possible, as many vulnerable afghans that we could also work towards getting. But its we understand the challenges of time and space here. Were mindful of that. That is why we are trying to continue to keep up this capacity and even improve it if we can. And just to Follow Up to the question, you have the ability to get all americans out that want to leave and you said several thousand. Do you have a percentage of how many americans have been removed, more than half have been removed. Cant give you that number because i dont think is a perfect number that we know with certainty and you cant forward an american to tell you that theyre there and we encourage them to do that. The State Department has a robust set of Communication Vehicles at their disposal in a country like afghanistan. We want to know when americans are there. But they dont have to tell us. So that is why it is difficult for us to give you you know, the denominator there. And how many are there. And what i could tell you, this is out of my lane but ill do it any way, the State Department has been working very hard to reach out to those who they know are there and who they hear are there. To communicate to them, to let them know what Evacuation Plans are possible and achievable for them. So theyre working very hard at this. Our job at the Defense Department is to help facilitate them, theyre Safe Passage to the airport and then getting them manifested and getting them on a plane out. But the ones that are registered, have more on less than half of the americans registered, have they been evacuated . I dont know. You have to go for the State Department for what they have on the registry and i think we could tell you that is an imperfect Data Base because not every american has to register. So it is perfectly conceivable that y that you might have an american in afghanistan and still pipes up and said i want to get out and were going to help that person get out to the best ability that we can. Barbara. I dont really understand. This is the Answer Weve gotten for days and days from every podium in this town. Even if this administration does not have the denominator, that is not my question. My question is can this administration tell the american people how many americans is has evacuated from afghanistan . And if you cannot, can you please explain not the denominators, why cant you just say the number. Barbara, i think were going to leave it at several thousand right now. And understand that is not a satisfying answer to you. I would tell you that the number literally changed almost by the hour. But so does everything else. I understand, barbara. Were going to leave it at several thousand right now. May i have a Follow Up since everybody else asked like eight questions. Thank you. I have two other followups if i may. Just to clarify, general taylors answer, if there had been no missions outside Of Kabul, could you tell us about missions that have taken place at least outside essentially the Fence Line of the airport and my other followup is as you prepare to depart, whenever that happens, your previous retrograde includes provisions for destruction of weapons if place. Could we assume that this part of the effort to leave afghanistan will also include that what you cannot put on an airplane, any weapons that you cant put an on airplane or any items that you would destroy in place. I think The General answered your first question. There is no other additional operations to speak to. We continue to facilitate Safe Passage. I mean outside Of Kabul, i believe. There are no additional operations to speak to that im aware of. Outside. Outside of the airport either. But we continue to facilitate Safe Passage for americans and sivs as they need to get to the airport. And as i mentioned to aleta, just in the last 24 hours coy tell you that several hundred americans have made it safely to Airport Gates for further on transportation. With u. S. Government assistance . Im going to leave it at that, barb. And as for your question on retrograde, the short answer is yes. As a part of any retrograde, and i know that is a technical Pentagon Term that the the drawdown of both people and equipment will be done in the same manner that we would do it anywhere else. And obviously there is a strong biassed to be able to get our material out with our people. If there needs to be destruction or other disposition of equipment there at Hamid Karzai international airport, well do that and do that appropriately. Carla, did i get you already well come back to you. My fault. Helene. Thank you. Could i ask you both about the bottlenecks. Because you have 20,000 people out in the last 24 hours. Which is a big number. The biggest youve had yet. Do you have 20,000 people now inside of the airport to get out in the next 24 hours or are there bottlenecks that are preventing people from getting in and getting people on planes and os
