Scr scenes of complete chaos. Americas longest war ended in humiliating collapse. Still unclear on the plans. In the meantime, administration officials that he is tasked with dealing with have been talking for him. Cnn reported these intel assessments were showing they were not serious about peace talks. They were aiming to fully control the government no matter whether the u. S. Statement or when. That was their objective. In addition, it has always been intel assessments over the last couple months and years even that a full withdrawal of u. S. Troops would per sip tate the collapse of the afghan government and they would have a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vac-suuum'>Vac Suuum and be able to rise. It wasnt absence of taliban would over take the afghan government but the speed. Thats one key element of this that seems to have been missing. The intelligence reports they were receiving were saying look, this could happen within 30 to 90 days. Were not quite sure. We saw it happen from friday to monday essentially the taliban over took kabul and in control of the virtuely the entire country. We heard on Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/friday-kabul'>Friday Kabul was not in imminent Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/danger-or-tHreat'>Danger Or THreat of being taken over by the taliban and 48 hours later, thats the situation being played out. The taliban we heard them give assurance saying womens rights will be respected and people should not fear them. They lie and we know that. I mean what those reassurance are worth remains to be seen. They say girls can go to school and if they do, until what age and study what . Weve seen in some parts of the country girls arent allowed to take part in religious studies. Thats happened. Nothing else. There are reports of young girls being ning snatched away from t mothers for forced marriage. Some have already been killed with the government and the previous taliban rule and i saw this myself, banned nonreligious music. They banned films. They required men to grow beards and go to the mosque. The question is will taliban 2. 0 do that . Will there be retribution of those who work for the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/government-or-journalist'>Government Or Journalist . We dont know. You can bet it wont be a free society. Why did the afghan Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/army-collapse'>Army Collapse so quickly . Youve been on the ground there. You have seen them in action. Why did this happen so quickly . For a start, clearly, there was a failure of u. S. Intelligence to not recognize the talibans Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/capabilities-intent'>Capabilities Intent and as you point out before there, with natasha, the speed and to know the weaknesses of the afghan military and this would happen quick. Perhaps the main issue with the regular army as opposed to command units which are good is the lack of support from their own government. They werent getting supplied for ammunition and no wages and no replacement of uniforms or boots. I saw some wearing sneakers. Some surrendered a base because they literally ran out of food. There was nothing to eat. You had top down corruption. The billions in dollars that vanished. I remember reporting on soldiers in 2010 and hearing these stories about ghost soldiers, commanders would pad out Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/unit-numbers'>Unit Numbers and get the salaries and pocket it. There was a lack of motivation and moral and Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/air-support'>Air Support went away, drone support, ground sup support. There is one other factor that needs mentioning, though. The taliban is ideologically driven. Tha they desire, their wish is to die in battle in gjihad. Thats not the case with most of the afghan army. They want to go home to their 60,000 of them died. Without u. S. Support they saw writing on the wall. No american citizen as well as weve got to get out and make a fir firmer stance in getting done our afghan allies, also who could be tHreatened. So we got to make sure we get them out but unlike saigon where they were shooting and trying to kill us, there has been a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/no-attack'>No Attack on the airport or in the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/e-embassy'>E Embassy until were done. I think the lack of fight or the will of fight by the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/afghan-security-forces'>Afghan Security Forces is a tremendous problem. And for me, do we spend anothe trillion to give folks a will to fight . I mean, this is a tough situation. Let me ask this miscalculations. How did that happen, though, is my question. You heard from michael holms. Ive been speaking all night to veterans who are on the ground saying of course this would be the case. This is inevitable. Of course they wont put up a fight against the taliban. We seen this play out a couple years ago. The same movie in iraq with the forces there that the u. S. Trained and equipped. Dropped their weapons and run in the face of isis. How did this miscalculations happen . I think that the fact they were not fighting and standing up is one of the reasons Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/president-biden'>President Biden decided to pull out. I was at the meeting and when the afghan president ghani was in the united states and the big issue is when are you going to stand up . When is the government going to end some of corruption . This was talked about before. May have gone to the troops, et cetera. When is that the people feel they have something to fight for so how could the president of the united states then say we know as he did that there was all of the lack of leadership and then clearly exclamation point, the lack of will to vote and fight. So do we then say were going to stay and occupy this country . Were going to be afghanistans military were going to stay there and fight another ten, 15 years and will that solve the problem . Thats the issue that i think the government has to deal with. That has been a point the president made repeatedly, look, im not going to pass the buck to the next president but there are two issues. The issue of withdrawing completely and also the execution of that withdrawal and by all accounts and talking to sources, this is not what they wanted. This was not what they had quote planned for. Why wasnt there a better plan in place, more anticipation for how quickly this could play out so that you wouldnt have to have the u. S. Personnel evacuate to the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/airport-and-wouldnt'>Airport And Wouldnt have take away flights from afghan, allies to give them to u. S. Personnel . Why wasnt there a better plan in place for this . What i say this is, if we get the american citizens out with nobody being harmed, if we get our afghan allies out without any of them being harmed or shot at or killed then i think thats still what the focus was. So we have to bring all of those securities back in just in case the taliban was lying and they tried to do something that would cause the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/death-or-attack'>Death Or Attack of so we got to prevent the measures in place. Put them on the ground. Let the taliban know if they do something, there is going to be immediate consequences and so i think the bottom line how history will record this is do we get everybody out without them being shot at and or killed by the taliban . Thats the ultimate piece. I know the images to me, i agree with you. The images that i see right now to see those individuals and the afghan capital reminds me of the images we had on january the 6th. But i know we fought back to make sure those images and are still fighting back because well make sure this doesnt happen to our country, i would have loved to have seen something like that with reference to the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/afghan-security-forces'>Afghan Security Forces, also. So they did nothing. We got to protect our folks. If we didnt send anyone in in the way we did now, the president and others, i would be criticizing the president. I want to make sure we send the additional troops in and make sure the people get out and it will be chaotic any time you have a scenario of the nature thats immediate youre going to have a situation that will be chaotic but you got to try to be calm and get it out so the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/end-result'>End Result and i think thats what im focused on, the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/end-result'>End Result will be that we got our american citizens out safely and we got our allies in the congress. That being said, i would also tell you that as the house foreign affairs committee, we have oversight authority. The committee will be looking what is taking place and ask hard questions both in hearings to make sure we dotted our is and crossed our ts in that regard but for me, the ultimate determination is do we get our people out safely without harm or dont . That is the hope and the evacuations are on going there is no timeline. Were watching it minute by minute, hour by hour but right now, so far they have been able to get out safety. Its truly heartbreaking to see, to see in so many ways so much undone, so many people harmed, there has been hangings. There has been, you know, reports of, you know, of women and girls forced into, i mean, effectively these brutal situations with taliban. We could not have done any job in afghanistan without dedicated local Men And Women who also believed in a better afghanistan we were here with them to go good and stand Side By side, its were hearing right now from so many allies who are trapped and dont have a way out of afghanistan. They spent years in an endless bureaucratic process with special Immigrant Visas, Siv Visas offered to interpreters and even just these last few weeks as the p 2 visas opened up, this is just confusconfuse, challenging, heartbreaking democracy so many have been stuck in and wrongfully denied and there are Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/tens-of-thousands'>Tens Of Thousands of our allies right now who are hunkered down, trapped and not on Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/anyones-list'>Anyones List to be evacuated. You said when you were on the ground with them go ahead. And fearing for their lives. Banks dont have any money, any more money to issue. P Passport Offices are not functioning. Its a mess. And were here at the rubble of a multi story relatively luxury hotel in the region, which is where we are right now. You can kind of get a scale for what happened here. If you look to the right, that would be part of the roof, part of this building that collapsed into the Swimming Pool there. If you look further to the left, you can see kind of a Teetering Set of columns up there that is basically perched and back down here you can see an Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/excavator-part'>Excavator Part of any of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/search-and-rescue'>Search And Rescue efforts. There is just people from the community and this lone excavator not in operation. Its indicative of what were seeing, a lack of authoritative stance from the government trying to help people get control of this situation.
