Some immunocompromised people. In order for someone to get a third shot approved by doctors and by the fda and by medical officials, the fda has to first authorize it to be used outside of the current way it is authorized, which right now is just for two shots. Were learning the fda could change thAt To include a third shot of Moderna Or Pfizer for people who are immunocompromised. This is based on sources from inside the administration. Thats just the first step in this. Then it goes to a vote for the Cdc Vaccine advisers. Conveniently, theyre scheduled to meet on friday. So whether or not they make a vote to recommend this, remains to be seen. But it is significant, because this has been a big question that some people have had. You know, there have been studies that have shown people that are vaccinated but immunocompromised are more likely to end up in the hospital or die from covid19 than the general population that are vaccinated. Our sources say the timing could slide, but right now, thats the expectation. Kaitlan, is there any indication when a Booster Shot will be available for the general population . Reporter no. Right now, weve heard theyre looking at potentially an early september timeline for laying out a strategy for Booster Shots. Thats measured by the efficacy of the vaccines. Its something that is essentially studied on an ongoing basis by the administration. Whether or not we actually find out thAt Timeline for someone who was one of the first people in the u. S. To get their shot, that remains to be seen. This is what were hearing right now. This is an expected authorization for some immunocompromised people. If youre talking about the federal government coming in and overruling parents in our communities, that would be something we fight back vociferously against. I think this could not come fast enough. There are hundreds of thousands of americans if not millions for whom the two doses have not been adequate. Im thrilled to see this. Do you expect thAt The fda will recommend they get the same brand, whether pfizer or moderna, or can they get a booster of whatever is available . So far, the data has largely been done with the same vaccines. If you got two shots of pfizer, getting a third pfizer. There is potentially an advantage of getting a different dose. But the fda could make a broader recommendation. If you got the johnson johnson vaccine, like 12 Million americans got the one dose, do you expect they will be getting an additional shot as well . If they do, should it be moderna, pfizer, or J J . These are really good questions. I would say if you got a J J shot, you should probably get another J J. Were in a place where fda has to make some smart decisions based on limited data, but well know more in the coming weeks. Does this mean thAt The fda is seeing Antibody Levels decrease over time, following vaccination . If you got your two doses six or seven months ago, the Antibody Doses are going down and theyre less effective . For people that are immunocompromised, there is i think really convincing evidence that a third dose is necessary. We are seeing declining Antibody Levels. But thats not everything, you have tcells and other things that keep infections in check. So we need to see how long after the vaccine, all of that will determine whether a broader set of people need a third shot or not. California just became the first state to require School Staff to either be fully vaccinated or get tested weekly. How helpful will this be in Keeping Schools and kids safe . I think its enormously important. Its great for teachers, because all of their colleagues will be vaccinated, theyll be vaccinated or getting tested regularly. And we know that kids largely get the infection from adults, at home, at school. Theyre the primary source of infection for kids. For kids under 12 who cant get vaccinated, having adults be vaccinated makes an enormous different. The cdc also today strengthened its recommendation that pregnant women get vaccinated against covid19. What led to that decision, and why is it so important for pregnant women to get the shot . Im thrilled by this. The data has been getting better and better, but the last few days, weve seen much stronger data thAt These vaccine are pretty safe in pregnancy. And pregnancy is a big Risk Factor if you get covid. So getting the vaccines seem to be quite safe. Put those two together, and i think the cdc recommendations are correct. Dr. Jha, thank you. You just received this letter from the State Education Commissioner warning you to either reverse your Mask Mandate, or risk sanctions. What is your response . Our board voted 81 to make masks mandatory, because we believe that masks are a tool that should be used during this time to protect our students and staff. As you know, florida has become the epicenter for the coronavirus. We continue to break records with having such large cases reported each day. So we are committed to educating our students in a safe environment. And we believe that everyone in school classrooms, cafeterias, buses, and School Environments should wear a mask. We wore masks all through the the summer for our summer camps. We had masks that were mandatory. We didnt have any major outbreaks of covid19. And were just not willing to risk the lives of our students and staff that we love so dearly. We did receive that letter and i was very surprised thAt The punitive threats continue to come and be directed toward our School Board. Were a local School Board that was elected by the people in Broward County to make policies for the school district. We took an oath, a constitutional oath to protect and serve our community. Were not looking to back down. We are committed to protecting the lives of our students and staff at any cost. We believe thAt Their lives are invaluable. So if it means that our salaries are taken away, we would rather have those salaries taken away than take a risk at having one of our kids or one of our staff people come down very ill. In 2018, we had a horrific tragedy at Marjory Stoneman douglas high school in Broward County, where 14 students and 3 adults lost their lives. So we are at a whole another level of Safety And Security in our schools. Now, theyre talking 30 to 60 days before kabul would become completely isolated. Another assessment saying potentially 90 days before the capital falls to the taliban. Thats absolutely staggering. I will say, from where we are here in kabul, things do feel relatively secure At The moment. But from the Front Line spots weve been visiting in different parts of the country, many cities surrounded by the taliban. Nine provincial capitals falling to the taliban in less than a week, the situation is not good. Were seeing afghan forces surrendering, giving up the fight. The president urging people to come out and join the warlords and reverse the tide. But theres a disturbing sense on the ground, the gains the taliban have made cannot be recovered. Wolf . What does this mean specifically for u. S. Diplomatic and other personnel still in afghanistan working At The u. S. Embassy, for example . Are they about to be evacuated . Reporter so it doesnt look like theres any imminent plan to evacuate them. But the State Department reports theyre looking at drawing down the number of u. S. Personnel At The embassy. This comes on the heels of the u. S. Embassy Warning Americans essentially to leave the country. WhAt That does is, it first of all calls into question how long americas is willing to stay the course. President biden said america will retain a strong diplomatic footprint here. What can you tell us about this warning that was issued yesterday, a Bulletin Warning of increased potential violence related to election conspiracies, and thAt Trump will be reinstated as president . Were keeping up on all the intelligence. We have folks looking everywhere, around the country, to pick up on any information. Even since the 6th January 6th. Yes, weve been on higher alert. That remains. We have a couple of dates where we know there will be some demonstrations. Were going to make sure we have enough folks in place so we can ca handle whatever happens. Can you tell us about where there may be some problems . September 18th is one that were i know theres a demonstration that will occur on that day. And right now, theres only a few hundred people i think thAt They anticipate. But weve got to be prepared for whatever happens. Why September 18th . Not sure whAt The significance of that date is. But that is just the date thAt They applied for a permit. To come to the u. S. Capitol to protest . Right. But you fear that a peaceful protest could get violent . I dont know we dont know whAt To anticipate and it could be, you know, if 5,000 people show up instead of 500, we need to be prepared for that so well make sure we have enough folks in place to handle the demonstrations. How unhelpful is it to see some lawmakers actually still promote these conspiracies, these lies . You know, its something thats out of our control, but i mean, it does not help when were trying to ensure thAt These demonstrations remain peaceful and people are allowed to express their first amendment rights, and in many ways, thats what is happening, but you just wonder what impact its having on some of the public when elected officials, you know, are saying some of the things thAt Theyre saying. And these threats, they go beyond the u. S. Capitol. Some members of congress are facing threats when they go back to their home districts, they need beefed up security. Ive spoken to several of them. There is police waiting outside their house in the morning just to be abundantly cautious. Yeah, we work with local agencies all over the country to ensure thAt The members of congress have the protection and the security thAt They need and weve seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the members of congress. We typically just a couple years ago had around six or 7,000. This year i think will be up close to 10,000 threats that were investigating against members of congress. So we are working very closely with the local Police Departments as well as providing not only advice but providing some level of Security Resources to the members not only when theyre in the Capitol Complex but in the District Office the in their homes, as well.
