It does seem, i think anyone who has experienced trying to convinced a love one to get a vaccine, when you try to convince them, it can so easily backfire. Seems to further entrench them in their position. Is that what you found . It does. Chris told me the more the media pounds on this or biden pounds on this the more he digs in. I really approached this from a position of love. I love my brother. This is one part of him. We have a whole history together. So we really approached it from Respect And Love and had a really good conversation. I do think Thats Something that stood out in your column. Amanda, you know, i think maybe the number one take away from this is Jeffrey Rosen is talking. The former Acting Attorney General who was running the Justice Department in the days before the insurrection, isnt just talking but wanting to talk. Wanting to give information at this point. Whats the significance about what were hearing . I mean, i think it just shows how dedicated Donald Trump was to this effort. If you dont mind me looking back a little bit, im a little frustrated because this would have been very relevant information during the second impeachment trial. Clearly you have people who were willing to talk and maybe they just needed the cover of the doj ruling saying they would be free to do so, but the second impeachment was really this is the same as the first. Its Donald Trump abusing official resources in order to get his way politically and stop Joe Biden from becoming president. I mean, its clearly a pattern here. And so, i am very thankful that we have a January 6th select committee because ive got to believe there are many more people like rosen. So once they have this legal, clear pathway in order to talk, theyre going to sing like canaries. You know, david, i think that this isnt registering for a lot of americans just how serious this is. And i wonder, you know, what do you think that means . Is that problematic . Well, i think Amandas Point is whats so important is that the reason this committee is so important, the reason a report is so important that we have a full view that is mildly partisan as it can be in this environment to spell out exactly the lengths to which Donald Trump was willing to subvert the law and our democracy to try to stay in office. That needs to become clear because hes still a political force and People Cant shy away from what the facts are about not only January 6th but this entire period. And to Amandas Point the reason why Jeffrey Rosen was willing to talk is that it was painfully clear at that point. The Attorney General had already left saying there was no evidence of irregularities in the election at all. It was painfully clear that trump was done. And yet he was still fighting. It was only then that people would step up and talk and say no more. That was not true in the second impeachment because people still feared Donald Trump and feared his political impact. So, thats the key point. The other one is i think we have to also look at these horrible events and realize that our institution held. Here is somebody who has put an Acting Capacity at the Justice Department and still has the guts to say, you know what, theres something bigger than me. Thats this role that im in at the Justice Department and our government has to work with integrity and hes stepping forward to say exactly what happened. Thats a great to that point, you know, theres a lot of talk about how partisan this committee supposedly is. Its not because theres republicans on it, but i think its important to note and emphasize the fact that the people who will be testifying with the most important information serve Donald Trump, right . Theres going to be many republicans i think who are willing to talk. Particularly like younger staffers who dont who dont want this to ruin their careers forever, who have information, who want to give it. As long as theyre given a pathway to do so. There will be republicans. What i was going to say to jeffreys point, sorry to interrupt, what John Bolton was telling us, Spirited Discussion last week, is his main take away here is that Donald Trump couldnt pull off the coup, right . The big thing is there is the institutions held and trump was too ham handed to make it happen. Thats the Glass Half full interpretation of the insurrection. Theres also the Glass Half emptied, the guy tried. He tried. He had Jeffly Clark the number three in the Justice Department trying really hard to overthrow the government. So, what are we supposed to feel . Were supposed to feel good it didnt work or should we be terrified that it really got very close, david . I think we can feel both. I think we have to feel both because i think the importance of this committee is to spell out how dedicated trump was to pulling this off. And what durbin himself has described as really the process of an attempted coup. But we also have to be relieved that the institutions did hold, that there were members of his own party who were breaking from this particular path by trump that the military was resisting and that even kind of scaled down Justice Department had figures who were willing to step up and say, no, we cant do this. Even under threat that he would be removed. Again, the time in which it happened was important because i think there are enough people like a Jeffrey Rosen who recognized this is out of control and he doesnt have the authority to do this. And he could with stand the pressure that others had not before. Amman ad i want to ask you, changing topics here about infrastructure, because it advanced in the senate and you saw republicans joining that move. But were talking about two bills here, right . We have the one that is bipartisan. Then theres the huge Infrastructure Bill that is going to be passed, we expect, you know through the Budget Reconciliation Process and theres this tension that were seeing play out between the two. How do you see this moment . How do you see this proceeding . Well, i mean, i sort of think official Establishment Washington will look at the bipartisan bill and say, hey, look. Washington can work again. But of course, biden has to keep his progressive caucus together. I look at this as conservative republican and say, my goodness, theres so much money flying out the door. Im not sure theres any controls on this train. I mean, if you look at the covid spending that happened between President Trump and president biden, youre already looking at 5 Trillion or so. And now theyre saying that bidens economic agenda will cost another 4 trillion, theres cause for concern there. And at least from the biden administration perspective, i think they should be a lot more clear on exactly what this is doing. Weve had a number of bills, american jobs, Rescue Family Something something. What is going on here . Im not sure that people fully understand and spending if republicans ever get their act together will be essential Voting Issue some time in the future. Again, 18 republican Votes Yesterday in the last procedural hurdle, which is a lot. In this environment, its a whole lot. But david, as it goes to the house, i have no idea whats going to happen there. Im not sure i fully understand at this point with moderates uneasy about the second part of the bill, with Alexandria Ocasiocortez saying were not going anywhere unless we get more in the second part of the bill. Nancy pelosi takes the wheel, she has to work magic if democrats want to get this. And thats why the first point, the fact there are 18 republicans on an Infrastructure Bill that we have been talking about for years, roads and bridges and broadband and that kind of thing, that it makes sense that the parties come together. Its a great moment for president who has a very strong economy and a history of being able to pull off these kinds of deals on capitol hill. But, yeah, it gets a lot murkier because from a political Point Of View the same republicans who might have been on board can turn and say, look, this is now becoming out of Control Spending by the progressive wing of the democratic party, that biden himself doesnt even control. And if they do it through reconciliation im sure that will be the political fight that breaks out. So, you know, we got two storylines kind of colliding at the manda, thank you both very much.
