Daily vaccinations are back up to where they were seven weeks ago averaging about 700,000 per day. Gist under half of the u. S. Population is now fully vaccinated, but is still far short of socalled herd immunity. New cases in the u. S. Are now averaging about 98,000 per day, the highest in sifrksx months. And were learning more about socalled Breakthrough Infections among the fully vaccinated. Although rare, the cdc says vaccinated people are contagious if they get the virus. That is why the agency suddenly updated its Mask Guidance last week. Here is what the head of the cdc told cnn. Our vaccines are working exceptionally well, they continue to work well for delta with regard to severe illness and death, they prevent it, but what they cant do anymore is prevent transmission. So if you are going home to somebody who has not been vaccinated, somebody who cant get vaccinated, somebody who might be frail, somebody who has comorbidities that put them at high risk, i would suggest you wear a mask in public indoor settings. And there people have been evacuated by boat. What you have to understand is that there is almost breaking news i would call it every half hour, every one hour, about a new fire breaking out. It is what were experiencing in greece is just unprecedented. That background behind you quite striking there to see the extent of the damage, see the houses burnt and everything there. Of course the mix of really high temperatures that we have been experiencing in greece for nearly a week now in an extended heatwave, a heatwave that we havent experienced for the last four decades. Greece has never had scorching temperatures like this for four decades, so certainly that is a factor. But it is just the timing of some of these fires raises a lot of questions. President Joe Biden is honoring Police Officers who responded to the January 6th insurrection. He signed a Bill Awarding them congressional gold medals, highest expression of national appreciation. Biden thanked the officers for protecting the capitol but more importantly he said for protecting the constitution. House republicans some saying that they objected to the word insurrection. Meanwhile the investigation into the Capitol Riots is moving forward under the leadership of a single congressional panel. Ryan nobles has more on that. Reporter the select committee designed to look into the January 6 snirksinsurrectio doesnt have another public hearing scheduled as of yet, but they are still doing work behind the scenes. And what were seeing is this committee take the full responsibility of looking into everything as it relates to January 6. That means that there are a number of other House Committees that already had started that work and the select committee now will take that work over. As an example, the House Oversight Committee had a number of interviews scheduled with members of the Trump Justice Department for instance to talk about what role they may have played in inciting that riot on January 6th. Those interviews were told have been postponed or canceled in some cases, and that responsibility is now going to be in the hands of the January 6th commission. In fact sources telling us basically any part of the investigation by any other committee will be referred to or deferred to that January 6 Select committee. Now, this is not out of the ordinary. This is something weve seen happen before. For instance during the benghazi investigation, also when the house investigated former president donald trumps tax returns, we saw all these other committees who had done some level of work consolidate it and put it in the hands of the January 6 Select committee. Of course the house not in session right now, a lot of this work being done by staff and behind the scenes. As i mentioned, they have yet to say when that next public hearing will take place. Ryan nobles, cnn, capitol hill. New York Governor andrew Cuomos Office says he will cooperate with the Impeachment Investigation against him. Cuomo is accused of sexually harassing 11 women and creating a, quote, hostile Work Environment for women. New Yorks Attorney general released a report with the allegations earlier this week. State lawmakers are investigating and offering cuomo a chance to respond. An attorney for cuomo says the attorney generals investigators acts as prosecutor, judge and jury. She says that company know, Qu Cuomo appreciates the opportunity to submit to the State Assembly and that the report omits documents, emails and testimony that contradicts its narrative. One of the things that raisi also said, that he would support negotiations to try to get rid of those sanctions. And of course one of the things that that seems to indicate is that the iranians and this new administration will support negotiations to try to jumpstart the iran nuclear agreement. So far it seems as the negotiations are at an impasse. Iranians say they want to bring the u. S. Back and they want to come in come compliance, but raisi says he doesnt want to do that at any cost.
