Understanding just how bad the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/coronavirus-pandemic'>Coronavirus Pandemic is once again. It is been one month since Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/president-biden'>President Biden said this. Today were closer than ever to declaring our independent from a deadly virus. But the reality one month later is alarmingly different. Take a look at these maps. One month ago, this was the level of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/covid-transmission'>Covid Transmission across the country. Now, watch the wave of red symbolizing high levels of transmission a wash across the states. This is what it looked like two weeks ago and this just one week ago. And here is today. Red washed over the majority of the country. We are nowhere near breaking away from this virus. We are, in fact, being held hostage by it. Here is how one front Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/line-nurse'>Line Nurse put it. Were a year into this and people still are making the same mistakes over and over again. And it was bad enough the first time around when it was all still new and you could at least the country ask nearing over 100,000 covid cases per day. Dr. Fauci warns that could double if we dont control this outbreak. There is a critical shortage of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/icu-beds'>Icu Beds in covid hot spots across the south pushing hospitals and medical staff to a breaking point, another breaking point. But make no mistake, the unvaccinated continue to fuel this. But there is some good nice and lets highlight it. Vaccines are slowly ticking up. The nation is reporting more than 400,000 shots every day for nearly a week. Now we have reporting standing by in two hot spots facing the worst of the surge. Lets start with Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/miguel-marquez'>Miguel Marquez live in birmingham, alabama, the state with the lowest Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vaccination-rate'>Vaccination Rate in the country. What are you hearing from people now . Reporter well, look, there are a lot of people in alabama who will never, ever get that vaccine. And that is the frustration among many people and that is why you see the red across country. Because there is a way out of this, tHree different vaccines, many people are refusing to get it. But now that you have cases up in places like alabama, way up in places like alabama, hospitalizations up in alabama, and that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/delta-variant'>Delta Variant taking hold of this state and almost every single county they are experiencing high levels of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/community-transmission'>Community Transmission of the virus, people are getting concerned. And as the economy opens, as the masks come off, as social did schools get ready to go back to inperson session, and parents and young people that want to get back to life are starting to opt for the vaccine. So in places like alabama, while it is not huge, the numbers are going higher in the terms of number of people getting vaccinated right now. So that is good news and much of that is being driven by people who as that economy reopening, they figure better to be safe than sorry and that the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/delta-variant'>Delta Variant that theyve heard is about is too transmissible and if they pass on it, they dont want to injure somebody even worse. Back to you. Miguel, thank you. Lets go to louisiana now. Health care workers there are being pushed to the edge as the number of covid patients coming in is surging. The state just reported 2,247 covid patients in the hospital on wednesday. The most of any time, any time during the entire pandemic. That is a statement of where we are. Naddio romero is live in baton rouge. What is latest . Reporter well i want to warn you, it is bad. Terrible all across the state of louisiana. Lets talk about one Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/health-care'>Health Care system, the largest one in the state. What were seeing is some Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/90-'>900 people who are hospitalized in this one system. Out of them, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/90-'>90 are unvaccinated. That is a 73 increase in hospitalizations compared to just last week. And when you look at those numbers, we know that it is the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/delta-variant'>Delta Variant that is spreading so quickly. At one Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/location-theyve'>Location Theyve already had to turn away 300 people in just ten days. Listen to the president of that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/health-system-talk'>Health System Talk about how things are only going to get worse. This is going to keep escalating. We think it will escalate in the next, you know, several weeks. So it is absolutely reaching a critical situation. Reporter so here we are at our lady of the lake hospital. This is the largest standalone hospital in the state of louisiana here in baton rouge. They have about 174 people between here and the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/childrens-hospital'>Childrens Hospital across the street that are hospitalized. So down one patient from yesterday. But there is no relieve for the staff. They discharge people but admitted another 21 patients in just 24 hours and theyre seeing their numbers continue to go up. Theyve run out of beds. Theyre running out of room. And the icu, people are only getting sicker. Yesterday 61 people in the icu, today 67. You look at those numbers and you know theyre bad. But it doesnt take a mathematician or a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/science-whiz'>Science Whiz to figure this out. The states with the highest covid cases the lowest Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vaccination-rate'>Vaccination Rates. Kate. It is tragic and it is as simple as that. Thank you very much. Among the crowded hospital beds, more and more children sick with covid. Infections amongst kids jumped 84 in one week according to the american academy of pediatrics. We need some perspective. Joining me is one doctor who has witnessed this firsthand, heather hawk, a pediatrician at texas Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/childrens-hospital'>Childrens Hospital. Thank you for coming in. You wrote something in the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/washington-post'>Washington Post that has stuck with me and should be striking to so many. Let me just read one sentence for everyone. I wonder if more people saw what i see at patients bedsides, would they do more to protect children . Can you describe for us what the reality is that you see while you are at the bedside of these sick children . Yeah, kate. Thank you. And im honored to be here today. So, we have been taking care of sick children tHroughout the pandemic. There seems to be this notion that children dont get sick from covid. They do. It is just been dwarfed by the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mortality-and-morbidity'>Mortality And Morbidity among adult populations. Weve been carrying about the children tHroughout the pandemic. And people dont realize that some of the children that come into the hospital very, very sick were previously healthy at baseline. They have no underlying medical conditions. And over just the past few weeks, weve seen a substantial increase in cases of covid coming into our hospital. More and more children, teenagers, even infants being admitted every day. Placing a strain on our hospital that were ready to meet but it is going to be a very busy season. Ive heard the very same about this recent spike that theyre seeing and influx of children. Ive heard this from doctors in alabama and in arkansas and florida. And im sure in many other states of doctors, i just havent spoken to yet. Could you tell me what you hear from these kids, what are you hear from the parents, what is the reality that you wish people who arent taking it seriously still what, is the reality you wish they could see . Wyeah, i wish people could se how sick the children are when they come into the hospital and i wish they could hear the conversations that i have with parents of these children who are asking what did i do to cause my child to be the one who is so sick . And i wish that people would realize that even though the percentage of children who has been effected by covid compared to adults is small, it is not insignificant. And were really concerned with the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/delta-variant'>Delta Variant taking control that were going to see a substantial increase over the next few weeks with Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/school-reopenings-being-a-major'>School Reopenings Being A Major catalyst. Let me add one other factor, youre also getting hit at the same time by a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/harsh-smpike'>Harsh Smpike in rsv. And it is a common Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/respiratory-virus'>Respiratory Virus that could hamper children but that is a virus that we usually see in the winter. What is happening now . Yeah, kate, so weve had a very interesting summer in that weve seen a resurgence of this winter time virus. Rsv or respiratory sensational virus that causes acute illness in infants and toddlers and keeping our hospital really busy. One thing i want people to know is that during our previous code surges, we were not seeing any circulation of the rsv virus. We had a lot of viruss that usually circulate in the winter that were not in circulation tHroughout the rest of the pandemic because people were staying home, they were staying masked, now were seeing a resurgence of rsv and taking care of lots of sick kids admitted with this lung infection. And so now having to deal with the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/covid-surge'>Covid Surge on top of the rsv surge, it will keep us really busy. Very, very busy. And so many of these kids cannot get vaccinated. They just they need us to protect them. Forget rsv, that is already going to be something that you have to deal with. Then this on top of it. It is cruel that were not protecting our kids if we are not protecting our kids. Thank you, doctor. Thank you for your work. Thank you. Also at this hour, big announcement coming from the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/white-house'>White House today today, trying to push the american Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/auto-market'>Auto Market toward Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/electric-vehicles'>Electric Vehicles in a big way. President biden is going to be setting a new target. Hes going to be announcing a new target that half of all vehicles sold in the u. S. Be electric and in less than a decade, by 2030. And biden is not making this announcement alone. Hes going to be joined by tHree big automakers and a powerful Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/auto-union'>Auto Union today. John harwood is at Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/white-house'>White House and joining us now with more on this. Talk about this executive order. What does it actually do . Well, what it does is set this goal of getting to 50 of new Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vehicle-sales'>Vehicle Sales to be electric by 2030. But other elements of this economic plan lay some dollars and some regulations on table to try to accelerate that. The regulations are increasing Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/fuel-emissions-standards'>Fuel Emissions Standards which had begun to be increased under the obama administration, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trump rolled them back. The biden administration is trying to increase them again. Secondly, in the infrastructure plan, theyve laid out billions of dollars for a network of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/electric-vehicle-charging-stations'>Electric Vehicle Charging Stations around the country. That is designed to enhance the market. There are some Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/manufacturing-incentives'>Manufacturing Incentives for Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/fuel-cell'>Fuel Cell and battery manufacturing. That is the design to accelerate this market and the administration is also using its own Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/purchasing-power'>Purchasing Power trying to make the federal Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vehicle-fleet'>Vehicle Fleet which is pretty substantial make that dominated by Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/electric-vehicles'>Electric Vehicles over time. So are various ways to push this along. Theyre going to face political resistance even if they have the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/auto-companies'>Auto Companies an the unions on board. Because yesterday we saw john cornyn, senator from texas of course, an Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/oil-and-gas'>Oil And Gas state, saying that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/electric-vehicles'>Electric Vehicles were more expensive and that the biden administration is trying to force people to buy more expensive cars not an easy goal, but this is a fusion of the administration climate Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/change-and-job'>Change And Job goals and international competitiveness with china goals. Well see if they could make it stick, thank you. It is now 48 hours since the release of that damning report detailing how Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/andrew-cuomo'>Andrew Cuomo allegedly sexually harassed women in office. A majority of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/state-lawmakers'>State Lawmakers would vote Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/inton-support-of-impeaching-cuomo'>Inton Support Of Impeaching Cuomo if he refused to resign. And now he faces a growing tHreat of possible criminal charges. Polo sandoval is live with more on this. It does sound like Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/state-lawmakers'>State Lawmakers are moving quickly. What are you learning . Reporter they are. And also worth mentioning is that the places the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/lieutenant-governor'>Lieutenant Governor in a quite unique position. If you recall, after the release of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/attorney-general'>Attorney General report, acknowledging that the allegations were quite repulsive and unlawful, the behavior being described if that report. But also basically supporting those who have come forward and calling them quite brave here but at same time the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/lieutenant-governor'>Lieutenant Governor stopping short and not really offering much more comment there. Acknowledging that the fact that she would potentially be the next in line to seat the governor depending on what the final outcome would be here. But the other significant development that weve seen here obviously is also now some fresh reporting from our Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/colleague-lauren-deval'>Colleague Lauren Deval showing that a letter has been sent to the governor and his legal representatives informing them that this investigation is Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/semly-near-completion'>Semly Near Completion and also offering him the opportunity to provide any kind of evidence that he would like to present as he continues to deny these allegations. No later thanny next friday. And then potentially weeks after well see some of the findings actually presented to the new Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/york-state'>York State assembly. So a little bit about what we could expect is joining us, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/phil-stack'>Phil Stack from the new Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/york-state'>York State judiciary member. What is your initial reaction now that we know that we have a better idea of a timeline and what we could expect, when this investigation by the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/impeachment-committee'>Impeachment Committee could near an end. When the governor submitted his materials, well have to look at that assuming that he avails himself of that opportunity and then the committee would have to meet and consider what articles of impeachment could be recommended by the committee to the full body. And i think one of the important things to note here is that assuming that the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/committees-investigation'>Committees Investigation is very similar to the findings of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/attorney-general'>Attorney General, it would be hard to imagine that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/sexual-harassment'>Sexual Harassment would not be a basis for impeaching this governor. There are other allegations of abuse of power, including the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/governors-book-deal'>Governors Book Deal which the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/attorney-general'>Attorney General continues to investigate, but which are our committee is coming close to concluding its investigation and i think we might be looking at other charges in addition to the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/sexual-harassment'>Sexual Harassment. But im hoping and believing that well have this wrapped up from the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/judiciary-committee-view'>Judiciary Committee View in early september. There are a lot of questions about a potential outcome here about when or if the governor would actually step down. Ultimately just based on the conversation we had a short while ago, does it seem if that does happen, or if it does leave office, would that be The End of his regular term or as a result of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/impeachment-proceedings'>Impeachment Proceedings . Well, i think that the governor is an individual who obviously knows how to count votes. And when the speaker of the new Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/york-state'>York State Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/assembly-carl'>Assembly Carl hasty who has been very measured during this impeachment investigation, comes out and said that the governor has lost the confidence of the democratic assembly majority, that is pretty significant. So then it goes to trial in the senate and i dont know why the views of senators who are similar in many ways to the assembly members, why their views would be different and why the governor would believe that he could prevail in the senate. And if he concludes that he doesnt have the votes, why would he want to go down in that fashion. Thank you so much for your time. Again, just a conversation with mr. Stack gives you a better idea of how much questions and how much is still very much in the air as Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/governor-cuomo'>Governor Cuomo continues to dig his heels in and deny the allegations while the political support crumbles around him. So a lot of questions about what we could expect in the days ahead and certainly the weeks ahead. Why would he want to go down in that fashion . Thank you, polo. Thank the assemblyman for us. Coming up for us, as students and staff go back into classrooms, how do Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/school-leaders'>School Leaders plan to keep covid out, especially in state wheres mask mandates are banned. Im going to ask a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/texas-superintendent'>Texas Superintendent about his plan next. Summer is a state of mind, you can visit anytime. Savor your summer with lincoln. When it cops to schools, it seems like nothing is more dividing than the debate over masks. At least eight states have prohibited Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mask-requirements'>Mask Requirements in schools at the state level. That includes texas where the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/governor-yesterday'>Governor Yesterday argued that, quote, everyone already knows what to do. Yet right now texas ranks second among the states adding in the new cases over the last week and follows florida in the amount of children and adults admitted to the hospital with covid. It is not great and it is not great in texas for sure. And Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/public-school-kids'>Public School Kids in san antonio, texas, head back to class on monday. The superintendent of the independent Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/school-district-pedro'>School District Pedro martinez joins us now. Thank you so much for coming in. I appreciate it. You and your school system, you find yourself in something of a particularly tough spot. You cant require students and staff to wear masks in school and because of state politics, you have no money to fund remote learning if things go south and classes start monday. So what do you do . Thank you for having me. So one of the things that we did, kate, is we had over Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/90-'>90 of the schools open in the last two weeks where we had over 20 of our students in person, we targeted students that are mainly remote last year and struggled and we had an Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/opt-out-strategy'>Opt Out Strategy. So our families could Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/opt-out'>Opt Out of wearing masks and we found that over 98 of our families supported us in having mask wearing. And so we only had about 2 that opted out. Were going to have the same strategy this coming monday. In addition, we have Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vaccination-clinics'>Vaccination Clinics across our Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/high-schools'>High Schools and were doing Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/covid-testing'>Covid Testing in every single Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/school-twhich'>School Twhich we dd last year and we have confidence in our families. Do you know how many of your eligible students are vaccinated at this point, as well as staff . Our staff are almost virtually 100 . Were close to that number. And with students, that is hard to tell and that is why were having Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vaccination-clinics'>Vaccination Clinics at our Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/high-schools'>High Schools and working with our parents and Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/community-partners'>Community Partners to make sure it is as easy as possible. As you know, the majority, almost all of the deaths and homgs hospitalizations of individuals with covid are unvaccinated individuals and so were just reminding our community that were going to make it as easy as possible for them to get vaccinations. Talk to me about Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/opt-out'>Opt Out. Because it is a little counter intuitive. Why do you think this Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/opt-out-strategy'>Opt Out Strategy is working . Is it the good side of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/peer-pressure'>Peer Pressure . It is. And i know, ive been here now this is my seventh year so i have a good sense of our community. The majority of our community is with us and we gained their trust last were and were now when our teachers are wearing masks and our parents support that and we have a few families that remind us we Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/cant-demand'>Cant Demand it because the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/governor-mandate'>Governor Mandate but it was less than 2 with the children that we had in the last two weeks. You told me of the last time that you were on that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/90-'>90 of your students live in poverty which drives home the importance of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/inclassroom-learning'>Inclassroom Learning for your kids. You talked about what it did when things had to shut down last time. It was heartbreaking to hear the way you described it. So what i wonder what your biggest fear is if an outbreak happens . Bec because, look, there are other schools in other states, one Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/school-district'>School District in arkansas where there is 700 people under quarantine because of an Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/outbreak-and-school'>Outbreak And School just started there. Could that happen in your Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/school-district'>School District . It could happen, kate. But here is what we learned last year. So we have Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/covid-testing'>Covid Testing from november all tHrough The End of the year. Our Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/positivity-rate'>Positivity Rate never hit above 1 . In fact, we ended with. 3 of a percent and with 70 in person, much higher than what we started with and what learned our schools are safe. As long as family, as long as children were wearing their Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mask-and-staff'>Mask And Staff are wearing their mask, we had no transmission in our classrooms. We are continuing to just message that to families and re publish our cases every week and so we have the trust of the families but i think were a good model for country and how to navigate tHrough this pandemic. If we shut down again, coy tell you our children did not do well academically and all of the parents share with us theyre children suffered with Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mental-health'>Mental Health and social and emotional challenges and because were investing in therapists in every school because the need is so great. It is reinforcing for me why local controls of school is important as well as giving the control of what is best for your schools in your hands. As you are making it very clear. And sometimes politicians may get very much in your way. But thank you for coming on. I appreciate it. Thank you. Coming up for us, the train seems to be leaving the station on the massive Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/infrastructure-deal'>Infrastructure Deal struck by democrats. But the official Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/score-keeper'>Score Keeper in congress, the congressional Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/budget-office'>Budget Office, has yet to weigh in and is about to. Cnns Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/lauren-fox'>Lauren Fox is live on Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/capitol-hill'>Capitol Hill with more. Lauren, what could possibly go wrong . What are you learning. This is is not over until it is over. The expectation is that this could wrap as soon as this weekend when it comes to final passage of the piece of legislation. But a big will cost and part of that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/question-mark'>Question Mark is because we havent actually seen the congressional Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/budget-committee-score'>Budget Committee Score yet. And i think that is going to be really important here. Because there are some republicans who are with holding their Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/support-and-vhavent'>Support And Vhavent vote to advance the vote until they see what that is. And the bipartisan group has not voted for the piece of legislation or even to advance it because they want to see how much it costs. Hes up for reelection in his state. So i think that is one of the key factors here. For some republicans who are on fence. But look, ultimately, this deal was negotiated by a close group of republicans and democrats who i dont see that support slipping even if this congressional Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/budget-office'>Budget Office review comes back costing more money than what people anticipated. So i think the key Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/question-mark'>Question Mark here is when this bill actually passes, not if. But obviously were all keeping an eye on the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/cbo-score'>Cbo Score because it could make a difference for some of the members who have been on the fence, kate. Thank you so much for that. Also out of washington, new evidence of former trumps efforts to get the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department to over turn the 2020 election. But this goes beyond the Big Lie. Cnn has learned a top Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/doj-official'>Doj Official drafted a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/resignation-letter'>Resignation Letter over what he said were trumps direct instructions to use the department to support his Big Lie about election fraud. The letter was drafted when trump was contemplating replacing then acting Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/attorney-general'>Attorney General Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/jeffrey-rosen'>Jeffrey Rosen at the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/tail-end'>Tail End of his administration with a man named Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/jeffrey-clark'>Jeffrey Clark who is a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/trump-loyalist'>Trump Loyalist who circulated a draft letter, he wanted to send to georgia officials laying out claims of fraud that did not exist. Hence why fortunately top justice officials did not let that move forward. Joining me now is cnns Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/debuta-bash'>Debuta Bash and Elliott Williams and former Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/deputy-attorney'>Deputy Attorney at the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department. And dana, weve heard about Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trumps trying to overturn the election many times before. Donald trump has made that very clear himself that he wants that to be done. Obviously publicly. But this Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/reporting-kind'>Reporting Kind of taken altogether, it really lays out that this goes beyond. Beyond any lie filled Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/campaign-speech'>Campaign Speech or fundraising pitch. Beyond Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/propaganda-tv'>Propaganda Tv commentators and facebook posts and twitter rants. This is a active and knowing attempt to stop the democratic process. And to use the levers of the government that he came in to disrupt in order to do that. And that is really the important thing here. He was trying every avenue he could think of and when his power of persuasion didnt work over local officials in georgia and arizona, for example, then he tried to use his own Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department to do it. And we have that now as part of a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/paper-trail'>Paper Trail. And that seems to be a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/paper-trail'>Paper Trail that his now former acting Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/attorney-general'>Attorney General intentionally made when somebody who worked for him tried to say, you know, we need to use the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department to go in and over turn the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/georgia-election'>Georgia Election results and they said no, clearly wanting to memorialize that in the documents that we now see. It is absolutely remarkable. But the thing to keep in mind, and weve talked about this, kate, is that this isnt just for historys sake. Right, exactly. This is about the future and now because what we see in georgia and likely arizona, the key swing states. Is that those states have changed their laws so that the guardrails that were up legally are not there. So that if Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trump or somebody else comes in and it will be easier to do what he tried to do on a federal level and that is the most important thing for everybody to remember right now. And also, a little bit of what is scary about all of this reporting taken together, elliott, is the role of any particular one Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department official trying to do Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trumps bidding. You could weigh in on Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/jeffrey-clark'>Jeffrey Clarks role here. A lot of people dont know who this person is. But the fact that he wrote this down and drafted a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/letter-and-ac'>Letter And Ac according to Abc News that saw it, wanted to get georgia officials to essentially get together in a Special Session to effectively who would end up happening was to tHrow out the Election Results and he wrote in the letter that the doj had identified significant concerns that may have impacted the outcome of the election in multiple Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/states-dlu'>States Dlu including the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/state-of-georgia'>State Of Georgia which is false. More over, it is not just his role but the role of his supervisors or superiors who were already Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department officials pushed back on it as well. So this is not like these were Deep State Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/people-career'>People Career appointees who had trouble with this. This is also other political appointees. It is clear how egregious his conduct was. So what this said is that there is two big things that need to happen right now. Number one, congress needs to investigate. I know that i believe the house over Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/sight-committee'>Sight Committee is already looking into this. There are a number of committees that could look into this, including the January 6 commission. They have the power to subpoena and call witnesses bring people up there to get to the bottom of what happened and the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/inspector-general'>Inspector General could go in and also have an investigation. They could subpoena current Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department employees, they could ask people from outside of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department employees, wink wink Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/jeffrey-clark'>Jeffrey Clark are you listening, because he could be brought in and asked to testify as well. All of this is to either make the information public, or get to the bottom of the rot that existed in the department at that time. And i wonder what Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/merrick-garland'>Merrick Garland does or doesnt about this and two, dana, what congress does. And man, it would be nice to have an independent bipartisan 9 11 Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/style-commission'>Style Commission right now. Yeah, it would. And what congress is doing is trying to get information for historys sake. Trying to get information so that the people who live this, that the worst attack almost ever on american democracy from within, you know, lets take the civil war aside, but just in terms of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/united-states'>United States capitol, that is the most important role that it is playing and it certainly would be quite different, youre right, if it was a bipartisan independent commission. But you mentioned Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/merrick-garland'>Merrick Garland. It is interesting that it is still an Open Question whether or not these are open to criminal charges. And that would only be something, and elliott could correct me if im wrong because youre the attorney here, it seems as though that would only be something that could be addressed by the department of justice. And so far Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/merrick-garland'>Merrick Garland, the biden Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/attorney-general'>Attorney General, has not seemed to have any interest, any stomach for continuing to litigate this in a criminal way despite the fact that there are a lot of democratic calls for him to do that going all the way up to the former president. So it is it is interesting to see how that played out at doj. Elliott nods in agreement and we have all learned you never correct dana bash. That is so not true. It is never needed. Thank you very much. We appreciate it. Moments ago a major announcement from the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/white-house'>White House covid briefing, in the last 24 Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/hours-nation'>Hours Nation has seep the most vaccinations in one day since early july. Progress. Here is a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/white-house'>White House covid Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/response-coordinator-jeffrey'>Response Coordinator Jeffrey zients. Were doing everything that we can to keep were doing everything to get shots in arms. We are seeing results. Over the past 24 hours, we recorded 864,000 vaccinations, the highest in a day since july 3rd. And importantly, 585,000 first shots, thats the highest since july 1st. This news comes as the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/world-health-organization'>World Health Organization is also calling for a pause on covid Booster Shots in an effort to make sure first shots actually get to developing and poor countries around the world first. The w. H. O. s goal is to get 10 of every population vaccinated by The End of september. That is going to be tough. Joining me now is dr. Carlos del rio, associate Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/executive-dean'>Executive Dean emory Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/university-school'>University School of health. Doctor, thank you for being here. I want to start with the w. H. O. What they are raising is something a lot of viewers are asking about as well, and weve been getting a lot of viewer questions about Booster Shots. And i wanted to raise that with you. As viewers have been asking, heres one of them. Do we need covid Booster Shots . If not, how will we know when we might need them . Kate, its a very good question and the data is slowly coming, but i think increasingly we are realizing that some individuals, not everybody, will be benefit from an additional shot. I dont like to call It Booster because booster in my mind is a vaccine that you take regularly, like we do with the flu shot. And i dont think thats going to be the case. We may need an additional shot, especially people that are immunosuppressed, people that are older. The reality is the data is not fully out there and i think we need to wait and not panic and not get everybody going out and finding a vaccine. Personally, you know, im 62. I was vaccinated back in december, january, im eight months away from vaccination. Im not running out there to get a shot myself. You know, youve actually signed onto a letter with an impressive group of public health advocates. An open letter to private sector leaders, private businesses, basically making a plea in this moment of a massive surge of covid going across the can trin, asking them for covid safe zones. What exactly do you all want . Well, what we think is the private sector plays a really important role. I mean 145 Million people are employed in the private sector, and the private sector can be an amazing partner in facilitating vaccinations and encouraging vaccination, in making sure that people who that work at their places of employment are vaccinated, in making sure mass mandates are in place and places of employment. Theres a variety of different things. Making testing available. There are so many things the private sector can do to make the workplace safe to the customers, but also to the people that work there. If you have healthy employees, the economy, your businessness will do well. Theres a lot of questions weve also been getting in, this gets all back to the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/delta-variant'>Delta Variant, right, just because thats whats crushing the country right now. Even on the most basic level, viewers have been wondering, ill sum it up because theyre asking, why do we keep getting contagious variants . Can you help them understand . Yes. What happens is viruses evolve, right, and viruses mutate and evolve as they are being transmitted from one person to the other. So as long as there is transmission globally, new variants are going to emerge. And when the virus mutates, some of those mutations make the virus less fit, less capable of infecting others, disappear. Some make the virus more capable of infecting cells, of being transmitted. Those are more prevalent, they stay around and get transmitted more. The current variant, the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/delta-variant'>Delta Variant, when we think about it, it emerged in india. So look at how important it is for us to have help control the pandemic in india. From india it slowly traveled, went to england, now we have it in our country. Now its the most prevalent strain in our country. This Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/delta-variant'>Delta Variant is probably 60 to 70 more transmissible than prior variants. It will crowd out the others and become the more prevalent variant. The way we stop variants occurring is stop transmission. The way we stop transmission, by vaccinating, masking, and doing the things we talked about. We have to do it globally. Theres no Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/point-stopping-transmission'>Point Stopping Transmission in the u. S. If we dont help stop it globally. There will be variants emerge in the world. Were not done with the pandemic in the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/united-states'>United States until we are done with the pandemic around the world. That is definitely the case. Doctor, good to see you. Still, a possible question to a big jeopardy question. Not even Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/ken-jennings'>Ken Jennings would probably get right. I dont know.
