We know that a big statement came out yesterday from Assembly Speaker Carl hasty, a democraT From The Bronx who hitherto had stopped short of calling for the governors resignation. Hasty came out publicly and said cuomo did not have their confidence and he asked the prevent inquiry to wrap up quickly. The Judiciary Committee is scheduled to complmeet on monda. I spoke with three members who said it could take around 30 days for articles of impeachment to be drafted. And then New York might be on track for the first Impeachment Trial since William Seltzer was removed from office in 1913. People who have spoken to the governor tell me he has remained generally defiant, but it is the hope of some who are both close to him and many in the legislature that he will perhaps see the Writing On The Wall and resign before anything has to happen in the legislature. Gloria, the governor is defiant, but the governor also that was a recorded message. The governor has not taken questions from reporters. What is the thinking inside Team Cuomo about we know his instinct is to fight and we know he believes in his communication skills. Are the lawyers telling him, youve got to be careful here, Fw Governor . The problem with the governors Inner Circle is he is surrounded by people who are clearly not willing to say to the governor this is not a good idea. This is the governors ideas being pushed forward. He has no one around him to say, hey, maybe this is not the best way to approach it. The governor likes to fight. Right now he is fighting for his life. Along with everybody around him, he has been wounded before. Weve seen similar situations before, nothing as bad as this. But he was badly wounded months ago when the allegations were first revealed. Usually he retreats, steps away from the press and the public eye, tries to keep reporters who follow him every day away from him. Then he rallies his allyiies an tries to make a comeback. The difference now is those allies are very quiet. Carl hasty is extremely close to the governor and has been on his side before. That statement he released yesterday saying he has lost the confidence of the conference is extremely telling for where things are at. I lived through this covering the clinton White House when some people thought the threat of impeachment would force Bill Clinton to consider resigning, that never happened. He was not wired that way. We lived through this with trump. The big difference now is we have a democratic President Of The United States who has a good relationship with cuomo. Are you now calling on him to resign . Yes. If he doesnt resign, do you believe he should be impeached and removed from office . Lets take one thing at a time here. I think he should resign. We continue to believe the governor should resign. The actions are inappropriate for the governor of new York State and i do believe he should resign. Bottom line is hes no longer fit to serve as governor. You see there the new York City mayor, both New York senators, but the President Of The United States, the head of the democratic party, a man who has a relationship with the governor. But the question is, a, will he listen . And, b, what was the process inside the biden White House to get him out quickly . I dont think he head many options that would have looked good for him if he had not stood behind those march options. He did not take that step. Its clear that Governor Cuomo is not resigning right now. He has come out defiant. The question of whether or not hes actually going to be removed from office. President biden didnt say, yes, i do support that. He said were taking this one step at a time. Well see. If he does actually get removed from option, that changes the dynamic for the White House. Its hard for biden to come out and say that because this is someone he forged a political alliance with. House spieaker nancy pelosi, wh has been a long time friend to have cuomo family, i think losing those two high profile allies puts Governor Cuomo in a spot hes not used to be in. Hes as isolated as can be politically. We know one of the incidents happened in the albany area. We know the District Attorney there said well take the reporT From the Attorney General and her investigators will look into it. A new reporT From westchester. The governor is alleged to have touched inappropriately a State Trooper who was part of his detail. What are the criminal questions . And is one of the reasons were not hearing from the governor this report also documents a really horrible, horrible climate inside the governors office. He is open to civil suits from these women, i would assume. But isnt the state of New York if this hostile climate was inside the governors Inner Circle . Theres three different things happening here legally. First of all, theres the potential for impeachment. The legal standard there is whatever the assembly feels like. Then you have the possibility of civil suits. These complaintants can sue. Thats for money damages. In order to prove that you have to prove preponderance of the evidence. Theres now two different District Attorneys in the state of New York who have asked for further investigative materials here. That requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Thats the highest level. One of the woman who Accused Cuomo who came out publicly watched the Video Yesterday in which the governor had a recorded message in which he showed himself in close contact with people.
