Put into context what this could mean for us. Breakthrough infections are not unexpected. What that basically means is you got both doses of your vaccine, whether it was the Moderna Or Pfizer or the one shot of the j j. You waited two weeks. Youre fully immunized, but you still either test positive, get symptoms and that is considered a Breakthrough Infection. What does that mean . It means that, as a lot of people are unvaccinated, theyre putting pressure on the vaccine, causing the vaccine to be tested. Because the Delta Variant now is so contagious, it is breaking through the vaccine. Thats the best way to explain the Breakthrough Infections. Most Breakthrough Infections are mild. Some people have pretty bad symptoms of the flu for a couple of weeks, but the good news is the Breakthrough Infection should remain a Breakthrough Infection and not a disease. You should not go to the hospital, get severely sick or die from it. Bottom line, if you have been fully vaccinated and you get the symptoms, it would have been a lot worse had you contracted covid and not been vaccinated. Thats right. More people should say i need to get vaccinated asap, because the Delta Variant is already breaking through the vaccine. But if you get the vaccine and still get a Breakthrough Infection, you are protected close to 100 from being hospi hospitalized, getting severely sick and dying. Lets go to viewer questions. The first is, if more people dont become fully vaccinated, wont we just chase the newest and increasingly worst variant . Thats exactly right. Were talking about the delta today. If that was my brother, i would tell my brother i dont feel comfortable bringing my kids and my family around you because of the following reason. Number one, im happy you got through covid. But just because you got through covid doesnt protect you from these new variants. Covid 2020 is a lot different from covid 2021. Second, we know that the immunity wanes, 24 weeks, six months after you get the shot. Ive had patients who have zero antibodies three months after recovering from covid. The Bottom Line is each if you had covid, get the vaccine. It is going to protect you much longer with a higher antibody response. Another Vie Viewer asks, if were to get the virus but am unaware of it, how long would such an infection be contagious . Thats a really good question. This viewer is asking is my Breakthrough Infection going to any more or less contagious if i do get the vaccine . Hes one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump for incitement of insurrection. Now both are on that committee, which holds its first hearing tuesday. Obviously theyre taking great political risk by joining onto this committee. Kinzinger pointed out hes doing this for the good of the country. It will be interesting to see if pelosi appoints more republicans to seats on this committee. Well have to wait and see. Kevin mccarthy says republicans are going to hold their own hearings. What good would that do . Not much. They want to suggest to pelosi somehow failed to provide security. When i served we would have been deeply offended if it was suggested that george w. Bush was the cause of 9 11. To pin this all on the speaker is unfair. There are plenty of reasons why republicans might want to characterize nancy pelosi, but January 6th is not one of them. I think they all know that. I think theyre going to try to come up with their own narrative about what happened. That will be a very partisan effort, frankly. Do you see it as deflection in Donald Trumps role in it . That will be part of it. Theyre going to try to say why was the Capitol Building not more secure . They can talk about the failures of the intelligence agencies, failure to share intelligence. They might speak to those issues, but theyre going to try to avoid Donald Trumps role in this, who frankly incited the mob and sicced them on the con congress. Mccarthy and other republicans are trying to blame pelosi. Others are trying to whitewash it and say it was like a Tourist Visit. Which one was it, a massive Security Failure or a no big deal Tourist Visit . Their narratives arent lining up. You heard committee chair Benny Thompson said nothing is off limits. Do you think hed go as far as to call Donald Trump to testify . I think he would. I served on the House Committee back in 2010 with Benny Thompson. I thought he was very fair. He works very closely with John Cat koe, whos the ranking republican. I do think Benny Thompson will go where the facts lead him. Theyre going to ask hard questions. Anything is on the table right now. I wouldnt be surprised if members of congress could be asked to testify before this select committee in the event they had any role with some of the insurrectionists. I hope they didnt, but its a real possibility. I think Benny Thompson will pull the trigger if he has to. Opinions seem to be so baked in on what happened on January 6th for so many americans. Is there anyway these hearings can break through that . We certainly hope so. This committee will have added credibility if the democrats defer to Cheney And Kinzinger who can set a proper tone for these proceedings and make these as nonpartisan as possible. They should be about the facts, get to the truth, try to cut down on the grandstanding. Theyd be very smart to let the republican members set the tone for the entire proceedings. Adam kinzinger and Liz Cheney are devoted republicans. Both of them are pretty darn conservative. These are serious, thoughtful members with impeccable credentials. I think if democrats are smart, theyll defer to them on any of these questions and highlight their role in the proceedings. You said do i support a Mask Mandate for vaccinated americans. No. If people are fully vaccinated, no, i do not think there should be a Mask Mandate for fully vaccinated individuals. I think if people are concerned or they have a risk factor, they may want to wear a mask. There is some breakthrough. There are individuals who are vaccinated who have been double vaccinated who do contract covid, the Delta Variant. But the breakthrough is extremely small. The last study i read was about 0. 05 . You could get covid if youre fully vaccinated, but the risk is extremely low. No, i would not recommend or suggest a Mask Mandate for those people who are fully vaccinated. Same for Vaccine Mandate for federal employees . Just want to be clear on that. Im not for Vaccine Mandates. The reason is this is an in injectable substance, a medicine we are putting in peoples bodies. If you can be honest and forthright with them, get clear Guidance And Information from the cdc would be tremendously helpful. That includes adverse reactions and risks, which we still dont have a good Risk Benefit Analysis from the cdc regarding the vaccines, but overall highly effective, very safe, decades of research went into the making of these vaccines even if the vaccine came to The Public very rapidly. Those are important things for The Public to know. When you look around the world at the numbers of people that have been vaccinated, you can look at the very low risk of Side Effects and compared to the risk of your Side Effects if you get covid19, and this includes longterm risks. I know young people who have contracted covid19 and for six to nine months have had loss of smell, taste and fatigue. There are longterm Side Effects from covid19. Side effects from the vaccine much less. Its safe, its effective. I would encourage people if they have not been vaccinated, to get vaccinated. Talk with their doctor. I want to get to the Cnn Report from this past week that shows nearly half of House Republicans refused to share their vaccination status. Why do you think so many members of youre party are not saying if they re vaccinated . I cant say why they dont want to address their vaccine status. I can say when you look at whos more persuasive in getting people to get vaccinated, is it an elected official or is it someone with medical experience . People trust their Doctor Or Nurse Practitioner Or P. A. , someone in their family with medical experience, more than they would a legislator. Whats even more important is we in the medical community continue to make ourselves available to answer questions, even if its on a virtual format or a radio talk show, we make ourselves available to be answer questions for people and let them know certainly they can contact their provider to get any questions answered about if they have vaccine hesitancy, the risks, the Side Effects. There is some information thats i erroneous erroneous. Those errors can be corrected if they contact their provider. Its most important that the medical community are not going to shame them, blame them or denigrate them but we want to clear up any misconceptions they may have and also reassure them about the safety of the vaccine. There are people who are genuinely concerned its something medically drug that you would inject into your body and it only has emergency use authorization. She said no. This was a tremendous opportunity for them to say yes and to encourage President Trump to encourage people to get vaccinated. So why isnt he . I would like to see all of us do more to get people vaccinated. Biden himself has given trump credit. Of course the criticism has been it wasnt enough, he hasnt said enough. What about trump . Would you like to see him be out there more promoting the vaccine he helped with under Operation Warp Speed .
