Youll remember that republicans squashed the chance for that bipartisan independent commission. Melanie broke the details on Mccarthys Decision about the select committee and joins us now from capitol hill. Melanie, what led him to decide to participate and who will he name . Reporter initially there was a debate about whether to boycott this as a way to cast the entire investigation as partisan. Once Speaker Nancy pelosi appointed a republican, liz cheney, to her side of the committee, which essentially assures that democrats will have bipartisan buyin for their work it became clear that was no longer a viable option. So instead Kevin Mccarthy is in Fact Planning on naming republicans to the select committee, but he wants them there so they can push back on democrats, shape the counternarrative, run defense for Donald Trump and essentially throw sand in the gears of the investigation as much as possible. As far as names, you can definitely expect to see some trump allies in those who are viewed as effective conservative messengers in the gop conference. People like jim jordan, elise stefanik, mike johnson. At the same time, Kevin Mccarthy also recognizes that its important to have some more moderate members who can have sway with Middle America and bring some credibility to the debate so im told hes looking at members that have backgrounds in security matters, legal matters and national Law Enforcement. He also may face some pressure to put a woman on the panel so its not just men up there. But one thing to keep in mind, Speaker Pelosi does have Veto Power over those picks. That might explain why two names not on the Short List are Marjorie Taylor Greene and matt gaetz. Melanie zanona, thank you so much. Theres a new Court Filing that shows there is still a threat of violence six months after the 6th'>January 6th riot. The fbi just indicted this Capitol Riot Suspect nicknamed monkey king. They say he went into the capitol that day. Investigators say he wore several masks. You can see they say thats him right there. Now, in the Court Document an Undercover Agent also says that a man in virginia in the months after the attack, they say he spoke of a second civil war. So inform april the Undercover Agent saw five boxes of Glass Bottles at the mans home allegedly meant to create molotov cocktails. The fbi says last month the defendant visited a Jail Site as a possible Testing Ground for those explosives. Cnns Whitney Wild has been all over this story. Whitney, this all came out after the fbi infiltrated this socalled bible study group. I dont know how many bible studies focus on creation of molotov cocktails. Correct. There was a very brief discussion of the bible in one meeting according to the Court Documents but mostly the discussions surrounded seceding from the united states, weapons training, for example. What this shows is there are people out there inclined to these Extremist Ideologies and they find each other. This is something the fbi has been warning about, Dhs Too had issued warnings really since immediately after 6th'>January 6th that we would remain in this heightened threat environment. This is an example of that. The fbi infiltrated as you saw in the graphic before, infiltrated this Group And Rgot evidence. The fbi says he did participate in the insurrection, he went inside the capitol, hes facing four charges for that but has not entered a plea. He is not facing any charges relating to these alleged actions after 6th'>January 6th but the Court Documents reveal some startling information. For example, he was part of a group discussing surveilling the capitol after the riot looking for weaknesses. They were trying to surveil the restricted zone that the national guard set up around the capitol looking for weaknesses, which is just so chilling. Theres another example of some really disturbing information. He allegedly had had told an undercover Fbi Agent that he was working on a manifesto. Heres a brief quote about that. Hes alleged to have said im kind of at a point right now that im writing letters to my son. If i get into a Gun Fight with the feds and i dont make it, i want to be able to transfer as much wisdom to my son as possible. Its like what a lot of Serial Killers write, their manifestos. Which of course would send a chill down Anybodys Spine who reads that. What it shows again is that we remain in this heightened threat environment. There is still people out there that saw what happened on 6th'>January 6th, were inspired by it and continue to have domestic violent extremist inclinations here. There is this fascinating detail of a legos model. Tell us about that. Right. So this came up in another Court Filing about a guy named Robert Morris from pennsylvania. Hes charged in the insurrection. His charges are pretty substantial. Hes charged with having led one of the really violent attacks on Capitol Police at one of the entry points to the capitol. So far hes pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors are trying to keep him in jail, so they filed this Court Document in which they told a judge during a search of his home, they also found a building like a Lego Building of the capitol. I dont know the technical term for a lego model. Formation, model, yes. See, this is the 6 00 a. M. Live shot rearing its head. So anyway, yeah, throughout the course of the investigation they found this lego capitol. Theres no indication in the Court Documents about what prosecutors think it meant, but it is a strange nuance here and it appeared in this Court Document where prosecutors are urging a judge to keep this man behind bars. Again, so far hes pleaded not guilty. Its all so disturbing. Whitney wild, thank you very much for the reporting all day for us. So Donald Trump is going after the biggest names in tech after they ejected him from their sites following the 6th'>January 6th attack. The former president says hes filed Class Action lawsuits against facebook, twitter, youtube and their respective chief executives. The former president made the Announcement Today from his golf club. Were demanding an end to the shadow banning. A stop to the silencing and a top to the black listing, banishing and cancelling that you know so well. Our case will prove this censorship is unlawful, its unconstitutional and its completely unamerican. We all know that. We know that very, very well. So those Tech Companies have not commented. The former president is already trying to make some money off of this fundraising. He sent out a text to announce the suits and then asked for donations. Okay, now to some weather news. Tropical Storm Elsa made landfall along Floridas Gulf Coast just a short time ago. Torrential rains, as you can see on your screen, and strong gusts have left thousands of floridians without power as far south as the keys. Derrick is in tampa. How is it looking where you are and what has elsas impact been . Reporter good afternoon, victor and alisyn. People are Breathing A Sigh of relief in tampa because this storm spared the worst of it which was fortunate. If it was even 24 hours later, if it was happening right now wed have major implications because we have the stanley cup Finals Game five being played directly behind me tonight at 8 00 p. M. So thats fortunate as well. But unfortunately some people were not greeted with such friendliness from the storm. Lets take you to Cedar Key just to my monorth and they had problems with storm surge, winds over 70 miles per hour and there was extremely heavy rain in that region. As you can see thats very near where the tropical storm made landfall in taylor county. But there are Rainfall Totals just to our south in Punta Gorda. They have officially approached 11 inches. By the time its all said and done these Feeder Bands will have proud 12 to 15 inches. No city, no infrastructure can handle that amount of rain. I want to talk about whats happened here in tampa. We have Tampa Bay over my left shoulder and the inland rain that took place across this area actually meeting with the strong wind thats pushing off of the gulf of Mexico And Rain and water has nowhere to go. Its been lapping at some of the Sea Walls and spilling over in some of the Side Streets but largely spared from the worst of the impacts. Derek Van Dam for us there, thank you so much. We know this is not over because its headed up the Atlantic Coast now. It is a tropical storm. Its predicted to affect almost the entire East Coast of the united states. Millions of people are now facing or could soon face torrential rain, strong winds, even tornados. This is columbia county, florida, near jacksonville. You can see here a small tornado blew away a deck and a fence, snapped trees into two. Lets go down to Tom Sater in the cnn weather center. Tom, wheres the storm headed next . Well, we have a change in the track in the last 12 hours an it shifts it more inland. Instead of that Heavy Rain Staying right on the beaches or offshore, millions more will be affected by this. Elsa will not go into the books as the first hurricane to make landfall, its the third tropical storm. We had claudette and danny. Big news really for the Tampa Bay residents. As it was approaching, it collapsed on radar. It was only hurricane for a few hours. At 8 00 p. M. They raised it to Hurricane Status but dry air and winds moved in and that saved thousands that have beach front Property Or Lakefront or Waterfront Property from that surge. But the rainfall did increase 8 to 10 inches, punting Punta Gor getting 11. The system circulates and our concern now is if we get some of these strong thunderstorms, strong enough with wind gusts to down a power line, some scattered Power Outages, enough rain in some cases where streams will rise. The last thing we want to have is first responders respond to a water rescue. We have a tropical storm watch all the way up to sandy hook. That could be extended too. With this track that is more inland, more residents will feel the effects of this. So again flash flooding, the possibility of Power Outages will be isolated, but strong gusty winds. It never makes its way offshore. Its going to run into a jetstream to the north and that could generate more power. We could be talking about this into saturday into the Canadian Maritimes so its going to scrape every state up along the way. The story is not over yet. After we get through with elsa, we just might have a quiet time for about two weeks for the atlantic Hurricane Season which is more tiypical for early july. That would be nice. Thank you for tracking all of that for us. New details are developing out of haiti where the president of the country has been assassinated, the First Lady also injured. We have the latest. The assassination of the Countrys President , Jovenel Moise, is creating all of that. Haitian officials say the attack happened around 1 00 this morning in the president s home. A group described as highly trained and heavily armed mercenaries managed to break in and opened fire, killing the president , and injuring his wife. Haitis Acting Prime Minister is asking citizens to stay calm. Translator i just presided over a Cabinet Meeting this morning and we decided to put the country under the state of siege. I share the pain and the suffering with the president s family. Making sure they were okay was my first priority this morning. Im calling on the people to stay vigilant and stay calm in this difficult moment. All staff at the u. S. Embassy have been told to remain at the portauprince compounds until further notice. President biden called the assassination, quote, very worrisome. Melissa bell is following this for us. Melissa, what do we know about who did this and why . Reporter forensics teams have been gathering outside that residence of Jovenel Moise where that assassination took place around 1 00 a. M. All weve heard so far is that they were heavily armed and highly trained. What those forensic teams have been looking at are the bullet holes you can see on some of those images outside the president s residence that show some of the violence that took place inside that house overnight. Now, as for the First Lady, we understand that she is they are looking to get her to miami for treatment. She is in a stable, but critical condition. We know that she was shot and have heard from the ambassador of haiti that she could be heading to miami for treatment shortly. As you say, in the mean time it is really about preventing the country from being plunged into chaos. The Prime Minister explaining why he put into place this state of siege. It is just above the state of emergency. It is the martial Law And Closing of borders and handing to the military a great deal of control of the security of the country. To give you an idea of the neighboring country, the Admin C Dominican Republic is deploying the military to the border to make sure calm is kept there. Its been a tumultuous couple of months. Critics say that moise should have stepped down back in february. Tell us about these past few months. Reporter thats right, victor. What weve seen over the course of the last 24 hours, these shocking developments, are really the fruit of many months of instability. A political crisis that is seen to end moises ruling by decree. The disagreement about whether he should be in power at all at this stage and accusations from members of the opposition that he was seeking to extend his grip on power. There have been protests coming from the streets as The Cost Of Living has soared in a country where 60 of the population live below the Poverty Line of 2 a day. That has fueled social unrest. The Covid Pandemic has done nothing to help it and this is a country thats been beset by criminal violence. Armed gangs looking for control of various districts of the capitol. It was insecurity that led us here and insecurity it is likely to lead us to. Thank you very much for all of that reporting. Back here to surfside, florida, where Search And Rescue teams have recovered ten more bodies from the rubble of the champlain towers collapse. Theres new video of the search that shows Recovery Efforts along what was the front portion of the building. As the investigation continues into how this happened, theres a new safety Task Force thats been set up to review Condominium Laws across the state and make recommendations to local and state officials. Cnns Rosa Flores has more of that video and details on the Search And Rescue. Rosa. Let me take you through this video because for the first time yesterday, reporters and photojournalists were allowed close to the site and really the first thing that you see, that front portion of the debris, that is the remnants of the controlled demolition that happened over the weekend. Behind that you see and we can hear from this video the heavy machinery that is working. Those pieces of equipment are in the portion of the rubble that is the initial portion of the collapse. The collapse that happened on june 24th. Now, as you look around, we were also actually able to see from that Vantage Point the sophistication of this search. We were able to see that there were teams in the neighboring buildings that were monitoring the dangers, that were monitoring the rubble. We had heard this from officials but had not been able to see it for ourselves. I can tell you from being there, you feel the urgency because youre surrounded by heavy machinery and first responders. You feel the pain because you know that pile of rubble has been a grave. Now 46 people have been pulled from the rubble since we were there last, which was yesterday afternoon, 10 more people were pulled from the rubble. All of this becoming very emotional for local officials. Take a listen. [ speaking foreign language ] reporter very emotional moment there from the mayor. Id like to share the names of the latest three victims identified. 86yearold graciela, 89yearold Gina Catarossi and 80yearold simon siegel. Understandably its a very emotional task that they have and im sure Search And Rescue teams have found themselves like that. They are certainly making more progress since they brought the rest of that building down. Rosa flores there for us in surfside. Thank you so much. President biden met with top cybersecurity advisers this morning to strategize about how to respond to a series of cyberattacks. The most recent attack is against an american company and its the largest of its kind. The group thought to be responsible revil operating out of russia and demands 70 Million in ransom. These are part of a Red Line during his talks with Vladimir Putin last month. The white House Press Secretary spoke about it this morning. In this meeting they provided an update on their ongoing work. Surge capacity, resilience in reporting, addressing Payment Systems and our ongoing efforts to combat ransomware. President biden was briefed. When asked if he had any new message for the russian president after his briefing, this is what he said. Whats your message any message after your briefing on cyber . At what point does the united states respond . Lets bring in now suzanne spaulding, a cyber official at the department of Homeland Security during the obama administration. I plan to start in a different place with you. First, thank you for being with us. But after the president there said i will deliver it to him, the president has always said that the u. S. Will respond in a time and fashion of its choosing. Should it be quiet this time . I mean should it be something that is public, that is announced as a deterrent to russia, but also to china, to nonstate actors. Is this strategy of a quiet response working . Association President Obama always used to say we will respond in ways that are seen and unseen. I do think that both of those components are important. Its important to do what we can and some of that is going to be clandestine, covert or quiet behindthescenes communications, but its also important for the american public and the rest of the world to be able to see something public that we are stating that we are doing, action that we are taking. So i think its important to do both. We may not be ready at this moment to take that public action, and so right now the Behindthescenes Conversation may be the right first step. So its obvious that what has been happening if anything has been happening has not worked. Since that geneva summit, there was the discussion of experts getting together and deciding what the Red Lines are. What are the options . Whether they are probable or not, what do you think would work as a deterrent for these russian actors and to encourage putin to get involved . Well, first of all, in terms of the fact that we havent seen a complete cessation of Militia Cyber Activity emanating from russia is not an indication of failure yet. We obviously havent achieved our objectives but we are still very early in those discussions and im encouraged that those conversations are happening. So thats the first thing. And then youre asking the right question, which is how do we deter russia . What are the kinds of things that we can do . Lord knows we have sanctioned them until were blue in the face and its hard to imagine that further sanctions could have an impact, although ive heard some folks suggest that we could impose sanctions on their energy infrastructure, for example. We need to think of deterrents in terms of imposing consequences and raising their costs of activity, both making it harder and imposing consequences, and then denying their benefits, raising our resilience. So there are things that im sure the administration is looking at. Can we make it harder with our international allies for russian companies, for example, to raise capital in western markets. You know, our earlier sanctions went after some aspects of sovereign debt. Can we use all of are we using all of our Law Enforcement tools . Im sure the fbi is working very hard to do this, working with our international partners. 17 nations were said to have been impacted by this latest Massive Attack emanating out of russia, to make it hard for those criminals to travel, to spend their illgotten gains. Im sure theyre working on tracking earlier payments that this criminal group has extracted in earlier attacks to try to identify individuals. All those things need to happen. But with every step that we might take, it is likely to trigger some kind of retaliation. And so we need to be building our resilience so that we are not such a Glass House such that when we begin to take actions, we worry more about the consequences back on us. We need to have our defenses up and our plans in place so that they cant have the effect they want to have with their response. All right, suzanne spaudldin, a lot of options for the president. Well see if he announces which he will take. Thanks so much for your insight. Thanks for having me. A Covid Outbreak at a Summer Camp. More than 150 people infected at one Church Camp. The study tracked a group of nearly 900 people, of which 234 tested positive for the virus. Those infected individuals experienced changes in their sleep duration, in their step count, even in their resting heart rate. The prolonged symptoms lasted an average of two to three months after first contracting the virus and indicated that the damage was actually done to their nervous systems, worse than we knew. New york is celebrating its heroes today. The citys Essential Workers were celebrated with a parade. 14 floats, 13 bands, more than 2,000 people there, all to say thank you to the men and women who kept New Yorkers going in the darkest days of the pandemic. First responders, Grocery Store employees, all of them honored today. That looked like a Ticker Tape Parade right there. I was trying to avoid the word. I know you were. While New York is celebrating, texas is reeling from an outbreak at a Church Camp where nearly 160 campers and adults have tested positive for the virus. According to health officials, some of those are the highly contagious Delta Variant and at least six of those infected were breakthrough cases. Services at the affiliated church are cancelled as a result of this outbreak. Dr. Philip kaiser is the local Health Authority in galveston county, texas, where the camp is located. Doctor, thank you so much for being here. Is the number still 160 infections . I know that that has continued to go up. Yeah, i honestly dont know what the number is as of this minute. It went up overnight. But thats about where we are in terms of the order of magnitude. Im sure we will have more as the days go on. Doctor, did this camp not require people to be vaccinated . No, they did not. And, you know, generally in texas there is not requirements for people to be vaccinated. In fact, theres a State Law barring that except under specific circumstances. So most places do not require that people be vaccinated. Did the camp require the campers or the adult workers or counselors to wear masks . I honestly dont know about that. The camp actually is not located in our jurisdiction, but the church is. And what we know about this is that there were 450 people that went to camp. Its a fairly large church. They all gathered at the church to go up there. They took five buses up there and spent a week there. And then when they came back, thats when we started getting cases. The first case reported monday last week. By wednesday we realized we had a problem and thursday we were in close consultation with the church and talking to parishioners and getting people to contact us if they had symptoms or if they had a positive test. Do you know how many of those folks of the 160 that we know of got sick . Thats a good question, right . So in general among kids, and this is mostly kids between the ages of 12 and 18, there were about 10 or 15 who were younger than that, they have a higher rate of asymptomatic infection. The infections that weve seen so far have all been pretty mild. No one has been hospitalized at this point so thats very good news. There were also, i think, the six breakthrough cases, meaning people who were vaccinated. Did any of them get sick or did they just test positive . Meaning are they symptomatic or asymptomatic . Yeah, several were asymptomatic and several got tested because they knew that they were exposed and we had asked were asking people to get tested. Of those, none of them had actually gotten sick enough to require medical care or to be hospitalized, so again, thats good news. But the Bad News is, is that this is almost certainly all the Delta Variant. We were able to do testing and were continuing to do testing on these variants and to see how many of these are actual variants. We got some data back monday afternoon, so not quite 48 hours ago that the first three tests that we were able to do were all Delta Variant. One of them was in someone who had had a breakthrough. So, you know, this is exactly what we were concerned about, which is that the Delta Variant would get into a highly vulnerable population and that we would see people who were vaccinated getting infected. As of yet, No One, though, has been sick enough to require hospitalization. Thats such a relief. But as you say with the Delta Variant, part of the problem with this camp is that then the camper, who are young and generally they dont get really sick, go home. And then when they go home, you know, they may carry the virus with them and then who knows who at their home may get sick from being infected. I want to read the statement from the pastor who runs the camp who said from the beginning of this pandemic we have sought to love our neighbors by practicing strict safety protocols. We are surprised and saddened by this turn of events. Of course theyre saddened by it and i certainly understand everybody is sad that people got sick, but it sounds like if they didnt require everyone those who could to be vaccinated and we dont know if they required masks, then they werent requiring the strictest of safety protocols. Well, so theres the camp, which is actually run by a different group than the church. So that statement comes from the pastor. They have been extremely cooperative with us. They have been asking people to wear masks when they come to church and they also ask people to get vaccinated and have been promoting vaccinations, so they have really been trying to behave responsibly one of the problems we face here in texas is that there is a significant number of people who really dont want to get vaccinated. You know, we were very quick off the blocks in getting people vaccinated. We got a lot of folks vaccinated very, very quickly. Once we hit that 50 mark, we saw the numbers of people drop dramatically. The other problem we face is the timing in terms of the vaccination for the students. We had been working through the schools, but it was only approved for students during the last week of school. And so many parents, the kids were out of schools, they were going on vacations and doing other things vahavent gotten their kids vaccinated yet. We look at this as an opportunity to educate people and say, hey, nows the time to get your kid vaccinated before they go back to school. If youre thinking about sending your child to camp, now is a good time to get vaccinated. So thats where we are at this point. Thanks for sharing that message with our viewers and thanks for all of the information of the well continue to follow the story. Dr. Philip keiser, we appreciate your time. Thank you. Victor. At the start of the summer there was a lot of discussion about the cdc and their guidance and their guidelines for Summer Camps. There were parents who were saying, well, listen, we know that children dont get the worst of the symptoms so why do they need to wear masks outdoors all the time . We know that it doesnt transmit outdoors as easily as it does indoors. Now were seeing the other side of that where the questions are legitimate now, were they required to wear masks . Were they required to have vaccinations . And it is annoying of course to wear a mask while youre playing outdoors. My kids are at Summer Camp right now and it requires everybody to be vaccinated, which is a relief. President biden is now speaking. He is making a push for a second part of an infrastructure plan, the generational investments in Human Infrastructure hes going to talk about. Hes there in illinois. Lets listen. Thank you, eden. Last week i was up in wisconsin to talk about a bipartisan agreement to modernize american infrastructure. And in the process, create millions of goodpaying jobs. Thats not my estimate, Thats Wall Street estimates, thats everybodys estimate. Millions of goodpaying jobs. Not 7, not 8, not 10, not even 15 an hour. Good, prevailing wage jobs. And heres what it means for illinois. Youve got, like many states, all states, youve got 2,374 bridges and over 6,200 miles of highway that are in disrepair. As a result, every driver in this state pays a hidden tax of about 600 per year in wasted time and wasted fuel because of the nature of the roads and bridges. By the way, youre better than a lot of states. Not to mention the challenge of getting to work or getting to the Day Care Center on time to avoid that late fee when you pick up your child. Your governor has an ambitious infrastructure plan. Under a bipartisan Infrastructure Agreement, well make the biggest investment in bridges and roads, literally creating millions of goodpaying jobs. And god willing, were not going to have 40 weeks of this is infrastructure week. Remember those . Think what it will mean to mchenrys agricultural program if we can get products more easily to chicago. Think about how much easier life will be when its quicker to drive on randall road. Look, this agreement also allows us to replace every Lead Pipe and Service Line in america benefitting 10 Million homes. Its going its been Address Ed this would be the largest investment in clean drinking water. One in every ten people in illinois lacks access to High Speed internet. The agreement allows us to connect every single american to High Speed internet. Those of your parent who is had kids at home tell me what internet means this last year, if theyre school aged. Thoeds weather events caused this state roughly 50 Billion in damages. Were going to upgrade the electric grid to make it more resilient to extreme weather and other threats. Theres a lot more to agreement will do to ensure the infrastructure lays a foundation for a strong and durable and sustainable, competitive economy. I want to talk about the Human Infrastructure. Its essential to that foundation as well. We need to invest in our people. Thats why in addition to the bipartisan Infrastructure Agreement that i believe were going to get done, im here to make a case for the second critical part of my domestic jane da. Its combination of parts of my american jobs plan that were essential as well as my american families plan. In washington they call it a reconciliation bill. You got to get 60 votes to get it done. Were a 50 50 senate with a Vice President who happens to be democrat. Back in the campaign, i said were going to build back and build back better. We cant just build back. We have to build back better. Today i want to outline some of the key pieces of this agenda and what its going to do for the people of illinois and the united states. Its about a country once again that inspires the world and the opportunities we provide, the technology we discover, the Te Technologies we pioneer. The biltd, back, better Plan Agenda starts with education. Everybody is caught up. At the time, they were debating what should be education in america. The argument was it should be 12 years of free education. Thats what got us ahead. Thats what had us leap ahead of the world. Today, everybody has caught up. Does anybody in the 21st century, with the changes thats taking place in technology across the board that 12 years of education is enough to be able to live a middle Class Life . I dont think so. The fact of the matter is, ive decided we should have a minimal of 14 years of education. 14 years of education. Ill explain in a second. You know, as the First Lady, im jill Bidens Husband but as jill would say, shes a fulltime Community College Professor while being the First Lady. She says any nation that out educates us is going to out compete us. Any nation that out educates us, Will Out Compete us. Thats why i was to guarantee an additional four years of public education to every person in america providing two years of universal high quality preschool for three and four year olds building on what the governor has been doing here in illinois. Low income children participated in preschool for 47 more likely to earn an associates degree. We have to build on that foundation for future success. Then i want to add two years of free Community College for every one. We can afford it. That could boost earnings of High School graduates by nearly 6,000 dollar a year on average. The average cast of a two Year Degree is 4,000. Under many proposal, that cost would be zero. Its not just tuition thats expe expensive. Living expenses, housing, mealing, transportation. Thats why i propose to increase a maximum Pell Grant which if youre below a certain income, you qualify for a Pell Grant for about 6500 a year to 8,000 a year. That will fill it out. You get create for taking College Classes here. My plan will provide resources to expand programs like the one you have here. So all americans can get the Skills Employers want that lead to good Middle Class and i may no apology, union jobs. Even before the pandemic, our School System was 100,000 teachers short. Our children are the kite strings that lift our ambitions. My plan will reduce Student Debt for future teachers, double the size of annual federal scholarships for future teachers. Well also support 100 Billion dollar in School Infrastructure improvements including Community College to make sure they are safe and healthy places for learning and all students with labs and technology they need to be able to compete in the 21st century. Of course, an ability to take these jobs depends on the availability of Child Care. As a single father, when i first got to the senate, i had two young boys who just lost their mom and their sister in an automobile accident. If i had not had the family i had, my younger sister, my Best Friend and my brother and my mom to help out, i couldnt have done it. Not everybody has that kind of support. I just toured the childrens learning center, its an amazing resource. Students and faculty can have the children cared for. Students can earn their associate degrees in early Childhood Education as well. He wrote me a letter about his struggle to find affordable Child Care. Mike, i hope you know now, here we are. My plan will provide access to quality, affordable Child Care with more centers with new and upgraded Child Care across the country. Its not just to be nice. Business because studies show when theres on site Child Care center, businesses have less absenteeism and higher productivity. Middle class families will pay no more than 7 of income for high quality Child Care for children up to age five. Theyre also going to give parents the option to take up to an 8,000 Tax Credit to cover Child Care expenses if thats the preferred move. Thats good for families and its good for the economy and will create more jobs. My plan will prop vide up to 12 weeks of paid family medical leave. [ applause ] 12 weeks of paid family leave. Were one of the few major economies in the world that doesnt cover paid family medical leave. The most difficult Moment Someone will ever face, No One should have to choose between a Job And Paycheck and taking care of somebody you love, parent, a spouse, a child. Well tackle the maternal Mortality Crisis that impacts black and Native American mothers
