Collapse . Well, The Game was approachling halftime. We were three minutes before the halftime, and The Game in full flow, and the score between Denmark And Finland and The Game was goalless at this point. The game was happening. But as soon as he collapsed, it became very apparent very quickly that this was very serious, and so that The Game was paused while he received treatment, and then suspended. The game remained suspended, and there is a chance that uefa will want to complete The Game, and i will tell you why they would want to complete The Game, because it is a tournament with a lot of games, and they cannot afford to fall behind, but i dont know what emotional state any of the players will be in. We are so glad that things are looking up for him. And don riddell, thank you for that and keep us posted. All right. Hello again, everyone, and thank you for being with us. Im fredricka whitfield. And today is marking five years after the Mass Shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in orlando, florida. Most of the members were latino members of the lgbtq community. Five years and thousands more victims of Gun Violence later, there is no end to the epidemic, and this weekend, 13 people were hospitalized in austin, texas, after someone opened fire in one of the busiest Night Life areas and two of the victims are in critical condition. And two people were shot in savannah, georgia, and two of which died, and that happened just blocks away from the police headquarters, and then five people shot and killed in dallas, texas, including a 4yearold girl, and police say that the child is in stable condition and the four adults did not suffer life threatening injuries. Two more people were shot and killed in seattle, washington, and nine more wounded. There have been 267 Mass Shootings this year so far according to the Gun Violence archive. For context, lets look at this again. There were 382 in all of 2016 including that horrible tragedy at the Pulse Nightclub. Memorial events are happening throughout the day in orlando. Jean carlos. [ Bell Toll ] javier a short time ago, the United Methodist Church rang Bells 49 Times in honor of the 49 lives lost. And we are joined by Natasha Chen who is there, and tell us what you are hearing, and you know, from the people there. Fred, there has been about a weeklong events leading up to this day. This community and this area is feeling the anniversary deeply and trying to remember those who were lost including the group behind me. This the deland pride organization. They are meeting up right now at a Bar Outside of orlando, and they will be walking soon down The Street to read the 49 names of the victims from five years ago. This is just one of as we mentioned many of the events this week today. And i did get a chance to speak to the organizer here who told me that this Pride Group was formed in response to the shooting, and she said that many central Florida Pride organizations sprung up that way. The woman who founded this, her son lost friends in that shooting. I did also speak to the owner of the Pulse Nightclub who is now the ceo of one pulse foundation. We talked about the fact that there have been more Mass Shootings, and perhaps the feeling that the problem is growing and not getting any better, and she says that this is because of our way, our Nations Way of apparentlying problems with violence. This is what she said. There is Gun Violence problem. There is a hate problem. There is a problem bigger than anyone is talking about is why is that how we are solving problems through violence and hateful acts. Why . What make you think that Persons Life is not valuable . What message are you really sending . Again, it is going back to the commonalities. This person has parents and children that you just murdered a on the lives that you destroyed. Is anything really gained by that . Reporter she is going to be spending the afternoon with the victims families and survivors. They did lose a Staff Member that night. And there is going to be a memorial Event Tonight at the Pulse Nightclub location at 7 00 p. M. It is a tender and difficult time right now. Natasha chen, thank you in orlando. Last hour, i spoke with Pulse Club Survivor Brandon Wolf about his hope that the lawmakers will do their part to make changes in this country to help stop Mass Shootings. I do find a lot of hope and optimism in the fact that we have allies again in the white house. Remember at this time last year, Donald Trump was releasing a statement saying that he would take back protections for transgender people going to see their doctor, but i will be honest with you, i am existentially exhausted. I am so tired of statements. I am so tired of hashtags and thoughts and prayers. I am so tired of archaic Senate Procedure being used as an excuse to do nothing while people in our communities are dying. Vi turned my entire life upside down to fight for a world that my best friends would be proud of, and all i am asking is for the people that we have elected, the people that we pay to get things done in washington, d. C. , to actually do something. Most of america agrees that our Status Quo on Gun Safety is not working. Most of america does not want to send their kid to school and bring them home in a body bag. Most of america wants to go to a Grocery Store without being able to find a ar15 on aisle three. Most of america is also existentially exhausted with the excuses and the obstacles put in the way of progress. I really want something different to happen. I really want my elected officials to show up to work, to grow a spine, and to do the things that need to be done to keep our community safer. Brandon wolf, and again, there have been 267 Mass Shootings in america since the beginning of this year. New today, we are now learning that the unruly passenger who forced a Delta Flight to divert after threatening to take down the plane was an off duty delta employee. Shocking event as people rushed to the front of the plane to help wrestle the man down. Keep him down. Polo sandoval is joining us with more on this. You are The One who broke the news and shared with us that the suspect is actually an offduty Flight Attendant for delta . Yes, fred. The authorities in Oklahoma City where they made a safe but Emergency Landing where this individual according to other witnesses said that they would take the plane down, and a Delta Spokesman said it was in fact one of the attendants traveling off duty at the time to incident, and according to them and multiple witness accounts what initially started this is when the individual made, and started to use the on board p. A. System to make various announcements and when the Air Crew tried to address that, that is what led to the altercation, and that led to the video that we showed a few moments ago of what witnesses described of the individual attacking the Flight Attendants on board, and two of the brave passengers sprang into action to try to contain the efforts of constraining the individual which they were successful to do, and that is when the Delta Flight 730 which left Los Angeles en route to atlanta was then able to make the safe landing in Oklahoma City where the authorities boarded the flight and then detained this individual. We are trying to find out more about this Persons State of mind, and what could have led to this in the first place. But really that delta spokesperson, fred, applauding the efforts of not only their crew on board to working the flight, but also these passengers that sprang into action to gain control of the situation. All right. Quite extraordinary. Polo sandoval, thank you so much. Thank you. And up next, Facetoface Diplomacy is back. And right now, President Biden is at the G7 Summit, and in a few days he is going to be meeting with russian president vladimir putin. Com promo all right. Some important meetings in england as the leaders of the worlds major economies come together for the second day of the G7 Summit. The agenda is clear that the world is trying to rebound from the pandemic. And leaders are renewing the alliances in the face of the ever changing and more complicated world stage. Before todays meetings, Cnns Clarissa Ward spoke oneonone with british prime Minister Boris Johnson and she is joining us now. So, clarissa, what did johnson have to say . He expressed a certain level of optimism, did he not . He absolutely did, fredricka. Unsurprisingly, the prime minister is known for his optimism, and i think that he felt that he is thriving in the moment hosting this G7 Summit, and feeling that it is a terribly important G7 Summit, because there is a renewed sense of urgency in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and the challenges of the autocracies and monarchies and a different tone of President Biden as opposed to President Trump. Take a look. It is absolutely true that with President Biden, joend, t joe biden, that he is a great believer in the transatlantic alliance, in the special relationship or whatever you want to call it with the united kingdom. He shares our priorities on tackling climate change. Reporter and President Trump did not would you say . And he will share that tomorrow, and he shares the objectives on improving education around the world. Reporter and he referred to you as a emotional and physical clone of President Trump, and i wondered how you responded to that and how you feel about that . The relationship is in extremely good order. I think that, the premise of the u. K. And, it has a job to do to get on with whoever is the president of the united states, and that what we do. But in this particular case, I Want You to know that the relationship is extremely good and getting better all of the time. Reporter and he had called you the clone look, i am not going to and look, people say all sorts of things about me, and if i spent my time disputing this or that, we would not get a lot done. It is the g7, and we are getting a lot done, and it is fantastic weather and great to see President Biden and the first lady. Reporter and so next week, President Putin, and President Biden is going to be meeting with President Putin. Yes. Reporter he has famously said that President Putin is a killer. Do you believe that President Putin is a killer . I certainly believe that President Putin has done things that are unconscionable, and im fairly certain that he authorized the poisonings in salisbury that led to the death of an innocent, wholly innocent member of the british public, and the attempted poisoning of the skcripals and also, the torture of alexey navalny, and so i am sure that they will discuss many thing, and that is something that i said to mr. Putin myself, and i said, look, there is not going to be a normalization of the relations between your country and obviously russia and the u. K. Until russia changes its behavior, because that is the sad fact of it. So i think that President Biden is going to be saying the same. Reporter how would you judge it as a successful matrix of the summit . If i could comment about this summit which is The One that we are actually at. I think that this is already an important moment, because the world is coming together for the first time in over a year to work on how to beat the pandemic, and to come up with a new treaty do you believe that your government mishandled the pandemic in the early days . Is that a fair characterization . I believe it is unprecedented event in our lifetimes, and of course, we will look back on everything that happened, and what went wrong and learn from it, but at the moment, we are focusing on the Vaccine Rollout which is amongst the fastest in the world, and in which is giving a great deal of immunity to the people at the summit to go ahead. Reporter of course, everyone here in the u. K. , fredricka, they are really wanting to know whether this country is going to go ahead to open up on the back of that successful vaccination program. There is a lot of concern, because the rate of infection has been steadily rising here in the u. K. , and the prime Minister Boris Johnson saying that he would not reveal the answer to that question until monday, but he did say that he wants to have an irreversible roadmap to getting through the pandemic and because of that desire, he needs to be very cautious possible therefore that he is paving the way for some bad news potentially for the people on the u. K. Monday that this country is not going to be able to go ahead to open up as planned, fredricka. That is a great wideranging conversation, clarissa ward. Appreciate that. And now, talking more about the G7 Meeting and with us right now angela stint who is the director of the center of eurasian and European Study at Georgetown University and the author of partnership, u. S. And russian relations in the 21st century. And also, professor from georgetown as well about the global economy. Welcome both of you. And everybody is in shell shocked of the president who denigrated the alliance and denigrated Europe And Nato and he did not particularly like the g7, and now they have a president who is recommitting himself to the alliance, praising the European Union and nato and wanting to work with our allies face all of the challenges dealing with the pandemic, and the economic issues and all of the other things. So i think that they are definitely quite relieved. They want to work him, but there is also a little weariness, because they realize that for four years, they had to deal with something they never thought they would have to deal w and the concern is that, is this now going to be for four years just having President Biden there, and who knows what comes after that, and so the weariness is going to take some time to dissipate. Interesting. Some caution. So julian, President Biden, and he brings a fair bit of international experience to the table at this meeting. How does it compare with past President S and how much of an impact might it potentially make . Well, we really havent had this since president george h. W. Bush who came into office with the deep expertise about Foreign Policy after having worked on the issue for well over a decade and who had great relationships with other foreign leaders. That is what biden brings to the table. And so in this challenge to show that the u. S. Can be credible, and that it is committed to these kinds of alliances, there is no one better positioned right now to do that and to try to overcome some of that very real weariness that exists, and to deal with faultlines over the issues such as china. Hmm. And angela, a big part of the meetings is about relationships, and we have heard from the french President Macron saying that biden, and glad that he was part of the recommitment, and saying that he is already showing a willingness to cooperate. And so how much is riding really on the leadership of the u. S. In terms of gauging what real progress can happen from this G7 Summit . Oh, i think a tremendous amount is riding on it. I mean, the other relationship that was really shattered in the Trump Administration was the relationship with germany and in particularly the attitude of President Trump towards chancellor merkel, and again, she has been explicit about how happy she is to see that President Biden is there, and that i can work together, and all of the countries do look to the united states for leadership, and they realize without the u. S. , it is much more challenging, and as was mentioned, they have the deal with the rising china, and the disagreements with the u. S. Of how to deal with that, and they are all sitting down to talk about how to deal with russia, and i think that, again, this is what they have wanted. They want the leadership, and i think that the u. S. Is of course also waiting for them to live up to their commitments, too. And as it pertains to the upcoming meeting between biden and putin, julian, you know, all eyes will be on it, and nobody expects it to be anything like Putin And Trump meeting in helsinki, and already, we have heard putin say that how he would describe trump. You know, he was an extraordinary individual. He was talented. A color individual. And his description of biden radically different. That there is going to be some advantages and disadvantages. He is not necessarily criticizing biden, and i wonder, you know, what this says about the expectations of each of these leaders ahead of the meeting. Well, certainly for biden, this is difficult, because the shadow of what happened with President Trump looms very large. On The One hand, President Biden needs to signal and show that the united states will take a tough and firm stand toward russia and toward many of issues that have been discussed. On the other hand, biden is a practitioner of diplomacy and also not going to get out on the public stage and not be cautious in how he uses his words. So he is trying to kind of find the balance of how to do that, but i think that having a separate Press Conference is one strategy, but putin is certainly going to goad him in any kind of private encounter, and this is a big challenge for biden to handle well and to distinguish himself from the previous administration, and not just in terms of rhetoric, but also in terms of substance. Of really doing. And angela, in terms of putin, i wonder if he is anxious the reset, because he did describe in the interview that u. S. russian relations has deteriorated over the years. Is that a Megaphone Signal from him, and subliminal message that perhaps he, too, is hoping for a repaired relationship or is that just talk . , so so, what he is hoping fod hoping to get is that he has a summit with a u. S. President , and this is again, reaffirming that russia is a great power and a power to talk to. He appears to want the same thing as President Biden inasmuch as both of them realize that we have to reestablish a dialogue on what they call the strategic stability, you know, lessening the dangers of nuclear war and how to talk about crisis so they dont escalate. And russia wants that and u. S. Wants that and we are the nuclear superpowers and that is what putin wants. So for rest of it, some discussions on the regional areas where we will be cooperating or talking and afghanistan is one of them, and the russians are concerned about what is going to happen when the u. S. And the nato troops are out, and climate is another issue, so there are various other issues that he is probably would also like Tom Cop tout say, well, we are working with the u. S. On this, but of course on the whole set of other issues which have to do with the cyber interference, which have to do with the human Rights Situation in russia, and all of those thing things, he is not going to concede anything, and President Biden is going to have things to say to President Putin about that, and i agree it is good they wont do a joint Press Conference, because you never know what kind of Surprise Putin might pull there. But i think that putin has an interest in making this work to the extent that russia comes out looking like a more responsible player. Wow, you underscore as many as much as there are contrast, there are also these commonalities. Interesting. Professors Angela Stent and julian zeleter, thank you. And now, we are on the ground next to show how officials are preparing and the warnings they are giving residents about wildfires. But what does that mean . For the folks who run with us there is no going back, because theyve never stopped working towards a better tomorrow. Together, we run forward. Is in the middle of a crippling brought, and this week, the biggest reservoir in the country dropped to the lowest level since the hover dam started to fill it in the 1930s. More than 20 Million people rely on it as a water source. A top Fire Official in california says that the drought could make for another devastating wildfire season. As you are looking up and down the state of california as an example and across the west, and we monitor the Drought Monitor and we have seen It Move into the exceptional drought through 80 of california which is hugely alarming, and that is water storage, and vegetation, and Snow Pack and all of those factors. And Paul Vercammen is with us out of Los Angeles, and, so paul, what is the level of concern there with No End In Sight to this drought . Yes, it is just absolutely alarming. Im here in Sierra Madre here, and this is one of those areas that was menaced by the Bobcat Fire, and remember that 180,000 acres were burned here. He is going to raise, telling cnn from high to very high, and that is usually not going to happen until after july 4th, but the road behind me leads into this forest, and everything back there is dried out. The chief saying that they usually dont see the Moisture Sort of out of the vegetation until august, but now those plants are already so dry. He is telling people to be prepared as they move into this very high danger level. We reach a point where there is not enough Fire Engines to put one in every driveway, and so it is an Eyeopening Statistic that most of them are preventable. So as you go out to enjoy the national forests, be extremely careful with the barbeques, because these happen so fast. We have many examples of the hikers and campers caught off guard and no way out, and those types of scenarios. So with the raising of the Threat Level that means that people cannot go ahead to camp and set the fires anywhere. They have to be within the prescribed Camp Grounds and areas and the ring of rocks for the camp fires. So we should note that about this high Threat Level, it is said that the fires can spread rapidly and last longer, and in this forest last year, the Bobcat Fire seemed to burn for months. It started to burn September 6th and not until late in december that they said officially that it had been completely contained. This is Breaking News into cnn. The euro 2020 match between Denmark And Finland halted moments ago after a player Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field. The terrifying moment was caught on camera. Cnns don Riddell Host of World Sport joining us now, and what do we need to know . Well, the situation is much better, fred. I have to be honest that i rushed into the studio at cnn an hour and a half ago thinking that i might be breaking the news that player had died in a match of a major World Football tournament. Fortunately, that is not the case. But for a considerable period of time, it seemed to be a very, very desperate situation. The good news is that Christian Eriksen is in hospital. He is being treated. He has actually spoken to the players and within the last ten minutes this game has resumed. It paused just three minutes before halftime when eriksen collapsed and he was treated in the corner of the stadium where he fell for an extended period of time. It did seem to be a fairly frantic medical situation with the cpr clearly performed on this danish international soccer player. His teammates formed a Protective Cordon around him, and never the stadium was in a state of despair. There were tears from his teammates and from his opponents on the finland team, and fans in the stadium, and they were hugging each other, and they were crying, and many could not even watch what was happening. The game was suspended, and there was a Crisis Meeting between uefa, which is the football governing body, and both teams and they have decided to continue. I suspect that the conversation with eriksen from his Hospital Bed will have helped his teammates make the decision to go and play on. The finisnish team applauded Th Danish players as they came on. The tournament began yesterday and the first game for the first two teams being played in Coe Pen Pen hagan, and sometimes sport transcends the occasion. And we have all realized that it is only a game, but the way that the players reacted and the way that the fans react and the fact that The Game is continuing The Game is about so much more than football. Now, we are showing the image that we were not able to show, and did not show out of respect for the player earlier. And so, when he was hitting the ball with his head and then collapsed or what are we seeing just ahead of him collapsing . It seemed to be very, very innocuous, didnt it . It didnt seem as though anything crazy or untorrid had happened. And look at him. He is running towards the sideline, and he falls down in fairly dramatic fashion. I mean, look at the players running towards him. They realized immediately. The referee realized immediately. And sometimes in soccer and in other Sports Games the referees are not aware of how serious some situations are, and the speed at which he realize and the speed at which they got him treatment might be well in the send of what happened and a much more positive story than what some of us were fearing an hour or so ago. We are hoping and praying for a speedy recovery and good to see that the eyes were open in The One still image, and that is going to hope that he is okay. Don riddell, thank you so much. Over the course of her reign as britains monarch, Queen Elizabeth ii has met with 13 of to last 14 u. S. President s. The one she did not meet with is lyndon johnson, and though she is not one of the seven leaders of the worlds richest nations at the g7, she did meet with them on friday for a Group Photo and the queen prompted some chuckles with this moment. I was wondering if you are enjoying this . Yes. I would love for you to join us in spite of the appearances. And some humor there. She was asked to cut the cake with a sword. I didnt think that this is going to work with two hands. Maybe the knife. What . There is a knife if youd like. This is something more unusual. Unusual that is. Well, after a few moments of struggling with trying to cut the cake with that sword, there is camilla, the queen with her help, and camillas help, the queen was able to finally cut the cake, and with the handle again, and why with the sword . Because she wanted to, and she is the queen and she can do whatever she wants. It is a foundation whose purpose is to make sure that we are identifying trails that are accessible. I just am not sure that people who have mobility challenges know that they can do this and i wanted them to have this same joy and the same empowerment that i had had. And when it you go to the birdability map, you will see a place where you can take the survey, you will run through the list of all the different access considerations.
