A very good morning to viewers here in the united states and around the world. It is friday, hooray, june 4th. We begin with a nation thats really become numb to an epidemic shaking it. In florida, a third person has now died from the mass shooting this past weekend where tHree masked gunmen opened fire on a crowd outside of a concert in a banquet hall. 20 others at least shot and injured. And those gunmen are still Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/on-the-run'>On The Run after what took mere seconds for them to apull off. The previous weekend the nation saw at least 12 mass shootings in a single weekend. No matter where you stand on the issue of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/gun-reform'>Gun Reform its a crisis both clear and getting worse. Individuals, groups, grieving parents are waving their arms trying to get the countrys attention. That includes those who lost their children at newtown. The Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/action-alliance'>Action Alliance they built has just released a new psa thats both chilling and gutwrenching. Watch. Welcome home. Its been a long time. Im so excited youre here. Good to see you. Good to see you. Are they in there . Everybody is waiting, except annie. Coming home Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/coming-home'>Coming Home [ crying ] more lives lost than u. S. Wars combined. Now the people in the video, theyre actors. But the grief they show, far from fantasy. Greg Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/gutten-berg'>Gutten Berg who lost his daughter in parkland tHree years ago after she simply went to school. She would have graduated Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/high-school'>High School this tuesday. The newtown Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/action-alliance'>Action Alliance released a statement from him along with the video. It says, quote, i remember pulling off to the side of the road and telling my wife that our daughter was murdered. This film brought me back to that moment. Every american should watch this film to understand that were in a war in america and its against the epidemic of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/gun-violence'>Gun Violence killing our children and Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/the-one'>The Ones we love. He goes on to call for congress to pass, at minimum, expanding Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/background-checks'>Background Checks to gun shows and internet sales, something on which the majority of americans agree. And of the number of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/gun-violence'>Gun Violence victims to the number of u. S. Service members lost in the nations wars, those are estimates that the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/washington-post'>Washington Post and politifact cite from the cdc. This includes mass shootings to homicides to suicides. And when Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/parkland-dad'>Parkland Dad Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/fred-guttenberg'>Fred Guttenberg says the numbers are at war the numbers back him up. More than 8,100 people have died from Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/gun-violence'>Gun Violence in this country this year alone. So this is a 23 increase from the year before. There have been at least 240 mass shootings this year alone. Gun purchases are breaking records. Last year Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/23-million'>23 Million guns were bought. This is a 65 increase from the year before. This year in just five months, americans bought more than Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/9-million'>9 Million guns, and according to one report, as of 2017, civilians owned Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/393-million'>393 Million guns in the u. S. Thats more guns than people. Thats more guns than those held by civilians in the other top 25 gunowning countries combined. And really just as chilling, the places these shootings are happening can just be random. Mostly concerts, workplagss, homes, grocery stores, massage parlors, schools. As the u. S. Recovers from a deadly pandemic, it has hardly reckoned with its other epidemic, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/the-one'>The One that also is taking lives. The Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/justice-department'>Justice Department says its putting a new focus on Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/ransomware-attacks'>Ransomware Attacks with plans to tackle them the same way they do terrorism. This follows a flurry of recent hacks that have made a mess of key Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/infrastructure-sectors'>Infrastructure Sectors in the u. S. Including food at Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/jbs-meat'>Jbs Meat packing plants. Theres been fuel, of course, with the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/colonial-pipeline'>Colonial Pipeline disruption. Hospitals with the breach of medical records at Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/scripps-health'>Scripps Health in san diego. Trains from the new Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/york-city'>York City subway system, ferries. This includes boats that serve parts of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/cape-cod'>Cape Cod and marthas vineyard. Lets bring in cnns Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/chief-national-security'>Chief National Security correspondent Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/jim-sciutto'>Jim Sciutto to talk more about this. Treating Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/ransomware-attacks'>Ransomware Attacks like terrorism. What does that look like . So the biggest piece of this, i think, is going after the finances here and that is part of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/doj-plan'>Doj Plan is to go after the financing. Because at Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/the-end'>The End of the day, this is a business story. Its a criminal business story. The reason you have these Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/ransomware-attacks'>Ransomware Attacks, they work. They make a bunch of money. The companies pay the money. Colonial pipeline paid nearly a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/5-million'>5 Million ransom to get the key to turn their system back on. Seems like they all do or have to. They do. Theyre insured for it, by the way, and the attackers are savvy enough they know exactly how much theyre insured for. If i were to attack you and say your home is insured for Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/x-amount'>X Amount of money for robbery, pay me that money and we can move on. And, of course, the problem is you and i have covered Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/hostage-stories'>Hostage Stories before. You pay for hostages, right . You encourage Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/hostage-taking'>Hostage Taking and companies are being held hostage here. So going after the finances makes sense. Going after the markets where these tools are sold and where the data is sold makes sense. On terrorism, its not the sexiest part of the counterterrorism story. But what happened after Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/9-11'>9 11 in terms of going after Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/terrorist-financing'>Terrorist Financing made an enormous difference in restricting the control of these organizations. So thats the plan, but, boy, these guys are savvy. It aint going to be easy. I do think people are getting this more. Its affecting them more, their daily life. Thats exactly part of the point in that they are going after the companies, but theyre going after consumers because when Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/people-cant'>People Cant get gas, they notice. Colonial pipeline. When, for instance if you cant buy meat for your barbecue, jbs, customers notice and, therefore, the company is more likely to pay. Jim, thank you for that. The clock is ticking, ongoing on these ongoing negotiations between a group of republican senators and the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/white-house'>White House as theyre trying to hammer out a deal to address the crumbling infrastructure. Despite a growing chorus of democrats urging the party to cross the senate to toss the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/senate-filibuster'>Senate Filibuster and pass an Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/infrastructure-bill'>Infrastructure Bill without gop support, senator Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/joe-manchin'>Joe Manchin of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/west-virginia-isnt'>West Virginia Isnt quite ready to budge. Lets listen. Just take it off the table and say youll never produce a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/60vote-tHreshold'>60vote THreshold on a filibuster. Were going to make the senate work the way it was intended to work. Im totally committed to that. And im not tHrowing caution to the wind. I have never desired to do that. Ive listened to Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/everybodys-point'>Everybodys Point of view. But the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/bottom-line'>Bottom Line is, this country has got to unite. We cannot divide it. Joining us to weigh in is cnns senior Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/political-commentator'>Political Commentator and former Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/senior-adviser'>Senior Adviser to president Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/barack-obama'>Barack Obama, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/david-axelrod'>David Axelrod and cnn Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/political-commentator'>Political Commentator, former Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/special-assistant'>Special Assistant to president george w. Bush and aide to Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mitch-mcconnell'>Mitch Mcconnell, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/scott-jennings'>Scott Jennings with us. David, what did you think here about what you heard manchin say . I know a lot of democrats are getting frustrated with him. Yeah, look, i am not surprised to hear him say it because hes been saying it tHroughout. So hes been very consistent on this point. And i think its important that people recognize that because theres this notion i remember this from my days in the house with president obama. You hear this outcry from the base of your party saying, lets go it alone. Thats fine if you have 50 votes to pass this bill without republicans. And without Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/joe-manchin'>Joe Manchin and perhaps some other moderates, you dont have that. So it is a fantasy to say, well, lets just pick up our marbles and go home and go it alone. And until manchin and perhaps some others are persuaded that this is the only way to pass an Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/infrastructure-bill'>Infrastructure Bill, i think, you know, youre at a standstill. So i feel for biden. Everybody is focused on his negotiations with republicans. The most important negotiations are with manchin and some democrats. Its a fantasy for democrats to think that biden can do this without Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/manchin-and-sinema'>Manchin And Sinema. But is it equally a fantasy for manchin to think that republicans will move . Sorry, scott. Go ahead. Sorry, guys. Yeah, i think its depends on the legislation. If were talking about the infrastructure legislation, i think we republicans want a deal. They want it on their terms. They want it to be a smaller price tag. They dont Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To spend new money. They Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To use money already appropriated, and they dont Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To raise taxes. If they can get a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/deal-theyd'>Deal Theyd consider to be rational, yeah. If youre talking about other legislations such as Hr1, the big Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/voting-bill'>Voting Bill that the house has sent over, i dont think theres any Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/chance-youll'>Chance Youll ever get any republicans on board with that. And so that would, of course, require a change in the filibust cher Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/manchin-and-sinema'>Manchin And Sinema have said they dont Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To do. I think republicans want a deal. I dont think you have to blow up the senate to do it. You have to drag this back closer to where it appears republicans are and even some of the moderates in the democratic party. David, you independent on fantasyland. No, let me just respond to what scott said. What is apparent from reporting is that it has been dragged closer to where republicans wanted to be, according to everything that weve seen. The president has cut his Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/infrastructure-proposal'>Infrastructure Proposal in half. He offered a way of funding this as an alternative to raising corporate taxes, which is which was his original proposal. And so he has made what democrats see is he is making concessions and the question is, i do believe there are republicans in the senate who Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To make a deal. The question is, are there ten of them and what will scotts client Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mitch-mcconnell'>Mitch Mcconnell say about that because there is also this issue of biden running on the notion that he could get republicans and democrats to work together on big things. If they pass this, this would affirm that. And that would strengthen biden. And we already know that, you know, from past experience that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/senator-mcconnell'>Senator Mcconnell is focused squarely on trying to regain the senate and hes not in the business, even despite their friendship of trying to help the president. So, you know, we will see how successful these negotiations are, but i dont imagine i imagine they will go as long as Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/joe-manchin'>Joe Manchin wants them to go. And if manchin says, hey, youve made a goodfaith effort. Big compromises. Youve produced something closer to what i think and moderates think is acceptable, i will move forward with you. Were just hearing last night from the former Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vice-president'>Vice President Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mike-pence'>Mike Pence who was speaking at a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/gop-dinner'>Gop Dinner in new hampshire. And he weighed in on the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/january-6th'>January 6th insurrection. Lets listen. January 6th was a dark day in the history of the united states. But thanks to the swift action of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/capitol-police'>Capitol Police and federal law enforcement, violence was quelled. The capitol was secured. President trump and i have spoken many times since we left office. And i dont know if well ever see Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/eye-to'>Eye To eye on that day, but i will always be proud of what we accomplished for the american people over the last four years. And i will not allow democrats or their allies in the media to use one tragic day to discredit the aspirations of millions of americans. One tragic day where rioters were talking about how they wanted to kill him. Scott, what did you think of these remarks . You know, when i heard Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/vice-president'>Vice President pence describe it as a dark day i thought, well, he and trump agree it was a dark day. But its for different days. Pence thinks it was a dark day because Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trump sent a mob to string him Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/up-and-donald'>Up And Donald trump thinks it was a dark day because the mob doesnt succeed. Of course theyll not see Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/eye-to'>Eye To eye on this because Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trump thinks the republicans, including Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mike-pence'>Mike Pence, should have bowed, caved to that mob and tried to overtHrow the election. So, look, this is a very impossible dance, you know, for Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mike-pence'>Mike Pence to do. I understand heatorically what he has to do as he seeks to run for president. He did his duty on that day. Donald trump is wrong. Donald trumps at fault. And my prediction is in 2024, whoever we nominate, pence, cHristie, scott, desantis, somebody has to stand in front of a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/television-camera'>Television Camera some day and say what we all know to be true. This happened. The president of the united states was at fault. He whipped up a mob. It was a dark day for democracy, not because the republicans didnt cave but because Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trump tried to commit an insurrection against his own government. And thats the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/litmus-test'>Litmus Test thats going to be before the american people in 2024, if they are to entrust the republicans with the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/white-house'>White House again. My question is, is Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/pence-wrong'>Pence Wrong on two fronts. One, you cant agree to disagree on democracy and the constitution, but, two, part b, that somehow he thinks hes going to get away with that politically because even that much, doesnt he cede all the ground in the world to the trump diehards . Yeah, hes tHreading an impossible needle here, as scott said. He wants to run for president. There is a big Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/trump-base'>Trump Base within the republican party and so he is trying to have it both ways. He cant, as a witness to what happened on that day, as a participant on the side of democracy. He cant renounce what he experienced and what he did, but he has to try and square the circle. I dont think that he can do that, but he also ignores the fact that that day didnt exist in isolation. That day was the culmination of months and months and months of propagandizing by trump before and after the election calling into question the integrity of the election. And so to say, geez, this happened, it wasnt a s spontaneous event. It was the consequence of the things that the president said and did leading Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/up-to'>Up To it. And so, you know, i dont think that, as they say, down where scott lives, i dont think that dog is going to hunt. Thank you both so much for being with us this morning. Appreciate it. Intelligence officials have found no evidence confirming that the unidentified flying objects, the literally ufos, observed by Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/american-navy-pilots'>American Navy Pilots in recent years were alien spacecraft. This is according to sources familiar with the findings of an upcoming, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/unclassified-report-on-ufos'>Unclassified Report On Ufos that is expected to be delivered to congress later this month. Such a report has never been issued. In this report, government officials, they werent able to explain what these mysterious objects flying in the sky might be. They just said theres no evidence that theyre aliens. Joining us now to discuss is an Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/astrophysicist-and-professor'>Astrophysicist And Professor at george mason university. Professor, they say theres no evidence the ufos are aliens. However, they also tell us they dont know what it is. So, you know, how do you square that circle . Well, you know it really makes sense because in the military and whenever there are test craft, these things are done on a need to know basis. So i think whats happening here is people believe in the authority of pilots and military pilots. If theyre seeing something and saying they dont understand it, that will make the average person go, oh, there must be something real and significant here. If those pilots dont have a need to know if theres a new technology thats in development, then they wont know about it so it would look extraordinary to them. So apparently its not american technology, as we understand it. Is it some other kind of technology that they would be unaware of . Maybe from a different country. What is it significant that we find this out and what do we need to do to find this out . Listen, whether its american technology, i need to be convinced of that as much as i need to be convinced that its alien technology. I dont have any evidence that can say this belongs to any particular entity. And we know that when there are advanced programs under development, then you dont go around telling everyone. And we are actually in an era of engineering where extraordinary things are happening, right . There are new capabilities with drone craft, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/hypersonic-weapons'>Hypersonic Weapons. Theres even Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/hypersonic-weapons'>Hypersonic Weapons that can travel under water. Theres amazing things happening on the engineering front. But, to me, it looks terrestrial. It does not look alien. If its the size of humans if its what humans do, then chances are its human in all likelihood, right . If its anything humanlike at all, thats my Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/smell-test'>Smell Test for aliens. What do humans do . We build vehicles, build craft, we fly around the sky. Im intrigued by your Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/smell-test'>Smell Test for aliens. Tell us more about that. Well, you know, watch a lot of scifi. Some of them do actually smell, but we do encounter life on another world, it would have developed completely differently from life here on earth. If you were on earth a couple billion years ago you wouldnt recognize it. One billion years ago, you wouldnt recognize it. So dont expect humans to fly up in a craft like what thats what we do. Thats not what some other species would do. So absolutely, there is nothing here that says this is a smoking gun. These are aliens. To me, if theres a smoking gun, it points right here to earth. Maybe were Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/the-one'>The Ones that smell. You are dont smell too bad. You were crushing my flights of fancy about aliens, but, look, we need the reality check, and we appreciate it. Hakeem, thank you. We appreciate it. Thank you for having me. Former trump white Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/house-counsel'>House Counsel Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/don-mcgahn'>Don Mcgahn is on the hot seat this morning. Hes set to testify before the house judiciary committee. Its in a closed door session. This is coming after he dodged a congressional subpoena for the last two years. So what if anything, can we learn from mcgahns testimony. My next guest has some questions that he would like asked and answered. Joining me with those is former Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/senior-counsel'>Senior Counsel to ken starr, paul rosenswag. You would ask, did Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trump ask you to not take notes or to destroy notes you had taken in a meeting . What could stand to be gained here from an answer to that question, do you think . Well, we know from the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/mueller-report'>Mueller Report that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/president-trump'>President Trump is alleged to have asked mr. Mcgahn to destroy notes that he took of a meeting that they had. And to have asked him to stop taking notes. He said that attorneys dont take notes and mcgahn said, no, im a good attorney, i do take notes. And reportedly trump said but Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/roy-cohn'>Roy Cohn never did. This would establish that mcgahn testified truthfully to mueller and also that trump, in fact, tried to change the historical record of what he did and that in some context could form a basis for an Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/obstruction-of-justice'>Obstruction Of Justice prosecution. And then it would be, did trump ask you to have mueller fired . Thats what was underlying these notes is the story that, on at least two occasions, trump called mr. Mcgahn and asked him to talk to Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/rod-rosenstein'>Rod Rosenstein who was then the acting Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/attorney-general'>Attorney General of the united states. And have Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/rosenstein-have-mueller'>Rosenstein Have Mueller removed because of alleged Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/conflict-of-interest'>Conflict Of Interest which nobody thought were real. Of course, you say youd ask if trump asked mcgahn to deny he had ordered muellers firing and then your fourth question would be if Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/donald-trump'>Donald Trump instructed you to create a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/paper-record'>Paper Record that would indicate he had not asked for muellers firing. So to actually create something. Yeah, thats the second part. In addition to destroying old notes, trump is said to have asked mcgahn to create a fake record of denying that the first things had happened. That he asked to have mueller fired. He said i want you to write notes that say Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/president-trump'>President Trump never actually asked me to do that, which would have been an extreme example of obstruction. Would have been huge. So you would like to ask Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/don-mcgahn'>Don Mcgahn if trump asked you to discuss executive legal issues with nonfederal employees, why is that key . Well, the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/executive-privilege'>Executive Privilege only extends between members of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/executive-branch'>Executive Branch. The president and his well, anything they discuss could be potentially privileged. But Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/president-trump'>President Trump has a history of using people outside of the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/executive-branch'>Executive Branch like Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/cory-lewandowski'>Cory Lewandowski to do a lot of his work. So this would establish a basis, a premise for finding other witnesses to what mr. Trump had done. Now some of this may very well be old news but its good to establish a factual record of what actually happened. And here we are returning back to normal with this testimony. Even behind closed doors as were going to see. Paul, thank you for being with us. Thanks for having me. We have breaking news. The latest job numbers. Highly anticipated report. Chief Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/business-correspondent-cHristine'>Business Correspondent CHristine romans with the details. Hi. Good morning. Sectors to tell you about we dont have those filled in yet. A lot of hospitality, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/retail-jobs'>Retail Jobs added back in which is a good sign. Youve seen a lot of those people cautious about getting back in the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/labor-market'>Labor Market, john. Cautious about getting back in for a variety of reasons. Not just because of their Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/unemployment-benefit'>Unemployment Benefits but also because theyve got Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/child-care'>Child Care issues. They still have the hangover of the covid crisis, if you will. And just not ready for some of these people to get back in the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/labor-market'>Labor Market. Youre starting to see these jobs adding back in. These are the kind of numbers you Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To be seeing. Not the millionplus some had been hoping for last month but still a strong performance. Glad youre joining us here at the table. Also with us is katHryn rampel. Its a big number historically speaking but its a miss. Lower than what economists expected. The consensus reflected a lot of variation in forecasts. So nobody really knew what to expect, to be fair. They consensus was something like 670,000. This is a little over 100,000 less than that. But we did see growth as cHristine mentioned in leisure and hospitality. Thats restaurants, bars, hotels, things like that. Places that were really hurting thad had been complaining about labor shortages. Job gains in education, schools are reopening. In Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/health-care'>Health Care. A number of industries that had been held back by the recovery or the recession turning into recovery for a while. So those are all good news. I think one interesting thing in this Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/jobs-report'>Jobs Report is that the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/unemployment-rate'>Unemployment Rate fell for good reasons as they say. Many people got jobs. But the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/labor-force'>Labor Force the number of people in the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/labor-force'>Labor Force, the number of people working or looking for jobs was basically flat which i think is going to fuel more of these concerns about whether workers are really willing to come back. Its been the huge question. Right. After last months Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/jobs-report'>Jobs Report. Are people not going out and searching for the jobs because maybe they are getting that enhanced Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/unemployment-benefit'>Unemployment Benefit or for other reasons, romans. Whats in here . Its a combination of reasons. We really only have some analysis from the san francisco fed to go on. Weve never had a situation theres no blueprint for this. But the researchers in san francisco fed found essentially maybe 1 out of 7 workers who are offered a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/job-back'>Job Back declined because of the jobless benefits. There were a lot of other reasons. On the margin, a small but noticeable influence from those Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/unemployment-benefit'>Unemployment Benefits but those are going to be expiring. The bigger issue is just after covid, there are millions of people who had jobs or multiple low low wage parttime jobs working two jobs or tHree jobs, and theyre not ready to go back to that quite yet. Theres a reckoning in the american Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/labor-market'>Labor Market about what kind of work you Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To do on the other side of this. Also theres retraining for some of these people. For the first time ever they had the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/breathing-space'>Breathing Space and money to retrain for jobs in Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/finance-or-tech'>Finance Or Tech and a lot of people in education and Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/health-care'>Health Care who have frankly, late fo40s, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/early-50s'>Early 50s who are retiring or not coming back. They dont Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To. There are other obstacles to coming back. The limitations on access to Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/child-care'>Child Care are still there. Its summer, right. We may not know enough until september when school starts to get in person. Public Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/transit-access'>Transit Access has been cut in a lot of cities. There are other barriers to returning to work despite people may still be concerned about getting sick at work or being mistreated by having to fight with customers over mask wearing or what have you. Some of those will abate has more get vaccinated and it becomes safer to return to work as requirements for wearing masks and other social distancing precautions get eliminated. Even so, there are a lot of factors here in addition to the possibility of these higher Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/unemployment-benefit'>Unemployment Benefits weighing on peoples decisions. Youll see more companies raising their wages. A lot of companies raising their wages. Hiring bonuses. I think well be hearing more about that, hiring bonuses to get people back in the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/labor-market'>Labor Market. What questions does this answer and what questions remain . I think we still dont really know how quickly people who are sitting on the sidelines will be willing to return to work. Again, because of all of these complicated factors in their lives, including how much the job pays, whether someone is there to watch their kids, how easily they can get back to work. Its just a big question mark. I think the thing that this report does answer is, yes, the recovery is continuing. There was concern last month that perhaps things had gone off track. It was such a big miss from the forecast. Maybe things were stalling out. That doesnt seem to be the case. Thats a relief. What about inflation . You know, inflation is transitory if you listen to the fed. You see higher prices everywhere, quite frankly and you may have to see higher prices in Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/wage-inflation'>Wage Inflation which is good for working people. Maybe not good overall for the recovery. Im not super i dont have a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/fivealarm-fire-bell'>Fivealarm Fire Bell worried about inflation right now. Higher prices are natural when you come out of the chasm that weve just gone tHrough. But it wont i dont think this report, based on what im seeing right now, will allay the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/inflation-concerns'>Inflation Concerns because it still raises the possibility that there will be increases in wage, maybe disproportionate increase in wage to get some of these works or the sidelines. I think youll see pay inflation. Now whether that comes in whether that converts into selfsustaining inflation of the kind that Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/larry-summers'>Larry Summers and others are worried about, we still dont know. It could very well be the case that there are some reopening pains that are associated with, you know, again, waking up from this economic coma that we were just in. That would involve higher Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/input-and-labor'>Input And Labor costs but that may be transitory because conditions are changing very quickly. Theres a sign of success. Congress actually, a sign of success here that people dont feel they have to go back to two crappy jobs to survive because they have the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/breathing-space'>Breathing Space and theyll be getting more money this summer when the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/child-tax'>Child Tax credits start hitting Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/peoples-bank'>Peoples Bank accounts for lowincome working families. So in a way, congress has spent all this money to give families a Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/breathing-space'>Breathing Space. Do we Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To go back to the way it was before when they have millions of people, Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/lowincome-army'>Lowincome Army of workers, mostly women and minority workers who are basically sustaining the consumer experience. Are we going to go back to that . The numbers will tell you some people dont Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To. CHristine romans and catherine rampell. Those numbers came in like eight minutes ago, and these two people just processed all that information instantaneously. Its not easy. Well learn a lot more over the coming minutes and hours. Thanks for being with us. Yeah, that was awesome. Good job, guys. And to their point, just ahead, what could be a big dilemma for bosses in america. Organizers of the ceremony say it was no mistake. Cnns Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/laura-jarrett'>Laura Jarrett joins us now. Whats going on here . Barney kempter thought his memorial Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/day-speech'>Day Speech might be a good opportunity to shine a light on some of the more untold aspects of how the holiday started. He showed event organizers a draft of the speech ahead of time but apparently they werent big fans of his history lesson. This is what happened next. It started off without a hitch. Memorial day was first commemorated by an organized group of black freed slaves less than a month after the confederacy surrendered. Thats Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/bernard-kemter'>Bernard Kemter giving a speech in hudson, ohio. Now hear what happens as the retired Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/lieutenant-colonel'>Lieutenant Colonel continues to talk. The ceremony is believed to have included a parade of as many as 10,000 people, including 3,000 africanamerican school children singing the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/union-marching-song'>Union Marching Song Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/john-browns'>John Browns body. They were Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/carrying-armfuls'>Carrying Armfuls of flowers and went to decorate the graves. Interesting there would be a tie back to hudson with that song with john brown. Most importantly, whether the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/declaration-day'>Declaration Day was the first is mic is off. Mics off. A. J. , mike. Well continue on. This is why you moved in closer, so you can hear this. The microphone was turned off for roughly two minutes. He told the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/washington-post'>Washington Post he believed at the time it was a technical glitch as he spoke about the role freed black people played in developing the holiday after the civil war. But muting the services Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/keynote-speaker'>Keynote Speaker was no mistake. An organizer of the event who is affiliated with the local american Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/legion-post'>Legion Post telling the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/akron-beacon-journal'>Akron Beacon Journal it was because his speech was not relevant to our program for the day, adding the theme of the day was honoring hudson veterans. As for kemter, he told the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/washington-post'>Washington Post, despite being cut off, hes received a number of messages praising his speech. Its just censorship. And think about what they are trying to silence. And its also a story about what happens when you try to be an ally, right . Laura, thank you for that. Appreciate it. As more and more americans get vaccinated against the coronavirus, the next step for many is the return to the workplace. Or is it . Folks are dreading it, it turns out. According to a recent survey by bloomberg news, nearly 40 of workers in all Age Groups say they would quit if they were forced back to the office. That number is even higher for millennials and genz employees. Lets talk about about this with james. James, these numbers are eye popping here. And one of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/the-one'>The Ones that stood out to me is that only 2 of people said they wanted to return to fully in person. What do you make of what youre seeing here . Good morning, brianna. Its really not a surprise because once employees were given the flexibility and overcame the shock of working remotely, they really found there was a lot to like about it. It does pose challenges for ceos, chief Hr officers and leaders as they think about the return to work. Those new surveys, though are really indicative of the flexibility that many employees really Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/want-to'>Want To live with going forward. So thats the thing. The employers here are going to have a hard time because your research shows that a quarter of virtual teams are not performing to their full potential and also that more than onethird of these teams say their leaders are less effective while managing virtually. So what do you do here . Well, its interesting. So my Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/coauthor-darlene'>Coauthor Darlene said probably the Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/worlds-number'>Worlds Number one expert on remote leadership. A ph. D. In this. Weve been studying virtual teams for many, many years. There are leadership changes and tactics that need to be put into place to lead effectively. And theres a rise in the importance of purpose, that leaders and managers need to infuse with their employees. But there also needs to be different processes that put in place. And its that balance of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/purpose-and-process'>Purpose And Process that leaders need to really play with to get it right in this new really hybrid environment that most companies are going back to. It turns out for an employee, working remotely is actually cheaper. It can save you time, of course. And it saves them money. Some say theyve saved 5,000 by working from home. Do you think this is something that, you know, how does that affect employers in this equation . Its really one of a number of factors that employers are thinking about going forward. Our research here at Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/spencer-stewart'>Spencer Stewart shows about 10 or 15 of companies are looking to go back to the prepandemic approach. And another 10 to 15 are moving to a work from anywhere approach. But about 75 of organizations are really going to be testing out a hybrid or blended model and that really puts new requirements on the managers and the employees alike. So that is really something that were still at the relatively early days at but there are tactics that employers, managers and employees need to understand to be effective. And youre actually right. In leading at a distance we studied 600 virtual teams and the highest performing virtual teams found that they optimized on two things. Purpose. What are we all doing and are we aligned in what were trying to accomplish as a team and as an organization . And also process. Everybody is working remotely or some are working remotely, the old ways of managing by walking around dont work anymore. So there need to be some intentional processes, whether its onboarding, whether its performance reviews and whether its informal ways to keep in touch as well. Its that balance of Href='https://vimarsana.com/news/purpose-and-process'>Purpose And Process that is really important and that bring out the best in these virtual teams. This is what companies are dealing with now. Jim citrin, youre the expert. The book is leading at a distance practical lessons for virtual success.
