Intelligence report, several scientists at a lab in wuhan, china, became so sick, they had to become hospitalized with an illness. That was in November 2019 before the pandemic began. The severity of their symptoms adds fuel to the debate over how the pandemic began. Overnight the chinese government refuted the latest Intelligence Report saying the u. S. Was hyping the Lab Leak Theory and questioning motivations. Joining us is one of the reporters who broke this story overnight. Warren, thanks so much for being with us. Congratulations on the huge story. Intelligence says Lab Scientists at the Wuhan Lab had been sick. You were the first to say they were hospitalized. Why was that important . Whats important is they sought hospital treatment. Its unclear whether they were hospitalized or went to the hospital for treatment. Its important primarily because of the timing. The timing is in november and we now know the coronavirus was spreading around the industry of wuhan in that time frame, not december as we believed. If they went to the hospital, even if they didnt stay overnight, that indicates a certain level of severity, whatever they had. Right it. Could have been worse than we knew. Thats one of the real issues here. The question is what we know because the chinese are so opaque here. Correct. Theres more Circumstantial Evidence in favor of the potential Lab Leak Theory. As you recall, they dismissed the Conspiracy Theory. Now what we have, i think, is a fair amount of substantial Circumstantial Evidence that supports both theories, and what we need the is more information from the chinese government and a more serious investigation and, frankly, more information if possible from the biden administration. Ill get to the biden administration in a second. The w. H. O. For a long time hadnt pushed china or seemed satisfied with the explanation from china that it wasnt a lab leak, now thinks more investigating needs to happen. For our viewers who may not be as up to speed, explain what the Lab Leak Theory is. Certainly. The Lab Leak Theory is that the Wuhan Institute Of Virology was doing research, we know, with coronaviruses, and we know they collected some years ago bats from a mine in wuhan, and the theory is basically through bad Safety Practices or some other event, the virus, which was manipulated in the lab escaped through a worker there, sewage system, or in some fashioning and thats basically how the Coronavirus Pandemic began. Again, i want to stress we dont know that thats true, but there are certainly some Circumstantial Evidence, including our report yesterday. Thats right. And right now all the evidence on each side of this, all sides of this i circumstantial, largely because the chinese havent been as forthcoming as they can be with all the data they might have. You said the biden administration. You talked about whether or not the biden administration can do more or should do more. So far josh rogan, whos done a lot of reporting on this for washington points out, at this point where the biden administration is they wont rule out the Lab Leak Theory. What more do you think they could or should do here . Well, they are pushing for a more vigorous investigation by the w. H. O. And by china, but theyre sort of doing it primarily diplomacy. Im not a policy maker. Its not my job to tell them what to do, but i could see a situation where they sort of step up the temperature as it were. The second point i would make is avril haynes, the director of national intelligence said publicly the Intelligence Community is investigating both theories, and i would say, you know, they should take a hard look through their files and see if theres more they can tell us about what they know about each theory. This reporting took us weeks and weeks and weeks, and it involved material that was secret or hidden, and anything they can do to shed more lied on this, i think the american people in the world deserve to know. Look, i think whats important to remember as part of the issue back when the pandemic had begun, then President Trump and mike pompeo, the secretary of state, had both suggested they had seen evidence it was formed in a lab and was not done on purpose, but they refused to release the evidence showing what it was. Because of what it was, it made this instantly political. The Trump Administration learned when you burn your own credibility over and over again, people are not going to believe you, especially in an election year. However, that does not mean its not worth discussing. There has been a persistent, albeit relatively quiet focus on whether that was the origin of the virus, and it is compounded by the fact there have not been clear answers from chinese officials about it and investigators trying to find out about it have been stymied. I think were in a different period, john, but its important to remember its been framed in a way thats not true. I dont mean here, but in this broader debate by trump supporters about what happened when it was raised. I think a lot of people want answers. That is important. Thats right. Thats right. A more political discussion is how much longer will Kevin Mccarthy let this happen . He already fought against greene being stripped of her assignments. Hes given her space to operate in the house of representatives. Why the silence . What do you expect here . The silence, john, is she is a problem and he and his caucus dont want to look as if theyre giving in to criticism of her in the media. Congress has refused, at least so far, as far as we can tell, i dont think were going to get the bipartisan commission on january 6th, but kinzinger says it will become an Election Issue. So she went and she picked him up, and he was bleeding on her. Reporter he was fatally shot in an apparent Road Rage Incident in california. His mother was driving him to kindergarten friday morning. The Department Of Justice is asking for information. Please help find the people who did this to my little brother. He was only 6, and he was so sweet.
