Bring a focus on to not just former President Donald Trump but republicans on Capitol Hill like whether or not republicans would rather take this hit now, defeat this bill and avoid the ramifications come time for the mid terms, assuming voters are not holding them accountable for this. There will be 10 republicans who would break ranks in the 50 50 senate. Theres not those ten republicans yet, even some who voted to convict Donald Trump, such as Susan Collins of maine. It is doubtful those changes would be enough to satisfy a number of republicans to break ranks. Where do democrats go from here, guys . Increasingly talking about trying to go it alone, trying to move forward on a select committee or some sort of committee on the house side, a democraticled investigation. Thats what concerns some democrats, why they want to go it alone, an outside commission. That would be free of politics, per se, but inside the house, republicans would accuse them of mounting a partisan investigation. Thats how things may end up here at the end of the day, gu guys. This was not, for instance, the covid Relief Plan put together by democrats. So if you cant get support for this bipartisan agreement, what are you going to get support for . I dont know, jim. I dont know that this is about bipartisanship and trying to prevent bipartisanship at all costs. In manus reporting, this is much more about republicans maybing the calculation that this is terrain they dont want to be in as midterm elections approach. Mitch mcconnell can sort of explain to his conference, imagine what every day is going to be like when the next person comes to testify and all the focus is on former President Trump and his actions, and the leadup to January 6th. Is that what you want to be talking about . I think thats the calculation more than i get that, david, but that timeline, that Election Date didnt just come up yesterday. Thats right his brother was with him in that grouping being hustled out of the Senate Chamber on that day. Yet youre right, poppy, he still voted not to get to the bottom of this with an independent, bipartisan commission, removed from current members of congress that can offer history, authoritative accounting not just for the sake of history, of course, but to prevent this from happen ing again. I mean, that is what is so shocking to me. I know the republicans have pointed to, this is duplicative, theres committees working on this. There is no committee outside the halls of congress that is totally bipartisan in nature that can give that kind of independent review. And the pill the republicans willing to swallow on this, pretty remarkable. I spoke to people in Pences Camp Days Acid who talked about his deep Upset And Disappointment that the President Wasnt didnt seem to be interested in his safety that day. And thats suddenly forgotten . Yeah, i dont know that its forgotten. Youre right. We all heard that at that time, that there is a real disconnect going on between the Vice President and the president at that time and i think some of that relationship has suffered permanently because of that, theres no doubt. But i think what youre seeing here is that thats not paramount in the consideration. Theyre allowing for variants in the tally, meaning the numbers can be off by a couple of votes and theyre okay with that. And then theres this just really strange sort of idea that fraudulent ballots can be found by looking at things like folds and stains and fibers in the paper. Completely disregarding all the Guard Guardrails that are in place to prevent fraud from happening. Its just a really strange endeavor. Not a lot of nothing that would resemble what we would call an audit. Not just strange, jennifer. So, these are simply things i overheard as i was observing. This would be a Side Show except that a process is now in place in some states to allow a legislature to overrule Election S officials and say, you know, were just not going to were not going to certify this election. And you could imagine circumstances under which they would use a false audit like this as justification to do so. Based on your experience, how concerned should folks be at home that ive got to watch this. Because next time around, this could turn an election. Yeah. I think this is really bad. This is bad for Election Security. Its bad for voters. Its bad for democracy. We have state and local election officials not only with years of Knowledge And Experience to conduct the election, to conduct an audit, to conduct a recount, but officials who have taken an oath to uphold not some Madeup Process like Cyber Ninjas is doing, but to uphold the laws of their state and to uphold federal laws in the way that they carry out those procedures. I think its a really dangerous precedent. Finally, briefly, you were asked to do some bizarre things while you were in there. Like what . I was. They were just so paranoid. I dont know that optimism would be the word i would necessaryily use but i would really encourage the american people and the american public to use their voices, give a call to their senators and let them know that this is not a partisan issue. Its not a coincidence it happened around 1 00 on January 6th when we were beginning the process of validating results of the peoples election. And so i would encourage them to make sure it doesnt happen again. Speaker Pelosis Plan B says were going to go on our own and have a select committee. When i think of select committee, and a lot of americans may be in this camp, i think of benghazi, because of one of the more recent select committees and how that went. Yeah. I mean, i think that the cdc was trying to do something good, which was to explain to individuals who are fully vaccinated that we are now very well protected. And thats an important message. But the cdc is not an individual doctor talking to an individual patient. The cdc is a public health entity, and public health is about communities. One of the Unintended Consequences that we now have seen happen as a result of this guidance, a lot of states and businesses and local jurisdictions have removed their Mask Mandates. And i really think this was premature when only less than 38 of the population is fully vaccinated. We are putting unvaccinated people, including children, were putting immunocompromised individuals at a lot of risk. They are now going to be in public places mixing with unvaccinated people who are also going to be taking off their mask. I think Theres Something that could still be done. I think local jurisdictions can say here are businesses that are really essential. We differentiate between Grocery Stores and pharmacyies that are central and keep indoor Mask Mandates versus theaters and bars. People go at their own risk but lets keep those essential businesses with Mask Mandates. Forgive me, because im going to talk about some good news here on this to try to accentuate the positive. One thing i notice lately is that each of these variants that has been devastating, the uk variant, brazil variant, now as we speak, the indian variant, science seems to show that the existing vaccines still provide a large amount of protection against these new variants. Yes, its very true that the vacc vaccines we have, the more evidence we have, the more we find that the vaccines are so good at protecting against illness, especially severe illness but also reduces the likelihood of transmission of covid19, which is so important. And they seem to work against all these different variants of concern. And thats why were seeing across the country, were seeing rates of covid19 really dropping. And i think thats kudos to the biden administration for what theyve done to help expedite Vaccine Delivery and administration in this way. But if were going to places that are crowded, especially with unvaccinated, unmasked people, we will be wearing masks.
