That is what Congresswoman Liz Cheney says about the Republican Party and all current evidence shows she is not wrong n a new Opinion Piece in the washington post, cheney who does appear to be day as way from losing her Leadership Position In The House republican conference, she says its time for republicans to choose once and for all between truth and the big lie. She writes this in part. Trump is seeking to unravel critical elements of our constitutional structure that make democracy work. Confidence in the result of elections and the rule of law. No other american president has ever done this. The Republican Party is at a Turning Point. And republicans must decide whether were going to choose Truth And Fidelity to the constitution. Two very different Turning Points for two very different reasons. But the same question does apply for both, i think. Are we at a Turning Point or are we already past it and everyone simply needs to open their eyes to that reality . What are you hearing about the push to remove Liz Cheney in her Leadership Position In The House and out of congressional together . Yeah, Leadership Position In The House is almost assured. Shes expected to be gone as soon as this coming wednesday. Well will be replaced by a supports the house republican Congress Conference and President Trump and his allies are now trying to push Cheney Out of her seat altogether. The search is on in wyoming to try to find a viable primary foe against her to deny her ability to win reelection. But theyre having challenges. Theyre trying to find one single candidate who could emerge as the anticheney candidate. There are some interviews that are happening behind the scenes. Some allies at the club for growth. Theyre interviewing specific candidates. They put out a poll trying to show that Liz Cheney is vulnerable in a primary. And there is an expectation that when trump endorses a candidate, the other ones that jumped in, they may drop out. The decision, the push to consolidate is even more important because donald Trump Jr. And other trump allies are trying to push a bill in the Wyoming Legislature to create a runoff to essentially ensure one candidate can go against Liz Cheney. They failed in that effort. So behind the scenes, theyre trying to find someone else that can emerge. One candidate is chuck gray, ayo y a wyoming state legislature. He said that trump absolutely won the 2020 election and he wouldnt say if the pro trump supporters are the ones in this building causing the damage, destruction that we saw on January 6th during the insurrection. He even blamed the violence that occurred from from last summer. That is in line with donald trumps big Election Lie that Liz Cheney called out and the reason why she is on her way out of republican leadership and potentially could be on the way out of her House Seat unless she beats back these challenges. So a lot of pressure right now on her, whether she can keep her seat and whether the trump folks can try to make her political career and In The House, not just for this Leadership Position, but altogether. Why would any american, any voter want their political leaders to lie so boldly and blatantly about something so basic yet so important . We have to i lets talk about the new senator likely to replace her. Of she spoke to Steve Bannon this morning. What did she say . She talked about her record. She defended being in her she said she is a conservative voice. She united different parts of the Republican Party. Of course, she has become a big trump supporter. Initially was a more ahead of a moderate record. She has been criticized by outside groups like the club for growth, conservative outside groups. She defended trump through the Impeachment Trial when she got on the former president s radar. And shes also raised questions about the electoral results from 2020 the way donald trump has and much different from Liz Cheney that warned that doing so could be a danger to democracy. About it when speaking to Steve Bannon last hour, she made clear she had concerns with the way the election is conducted and supported a republican led effort in arizona to raise questions about the outcome. I fully support the audit in arizona. We want transparency and answers for the american people. What are the democrats so afraid of . The voters in it arizona and the State Senate in arizona pursued this audit. I fully support it. Transparency is a good thing. We need to fix these Election Security issues going into the future. So far different rhetoric than what we heard from hearing from Liz Cheney who is worng about such rhetoric, warning how much it could be a danger to democracy saying we should accept the legitimate results of the election here. But she has sided overwhelmingly with trump on this issue, even voting to overturn the Pennsylvania Electoral Results after the riot. Kate . Thank you so much. She says the party is at a Turning Point. Do you think the party is already past that point . Like past chosen . Its way past the Turning Point. The i mean, i think donald trump even his election in 2016 and what transpired is more a reflection of where the Republican Party has been and is than it is some sort of change today. The real Dividing Line in america is we have on one side people that believe in a common set of facts, The Common Good and democracy and that truth matters. On the other side is the exact opposite of that. And thats what the greatest Dividing Line is. And this is a reflection of that. And perfectly encapsulating that seems to be Liz Cheney and elysse . They both represent both sides. I know liz very well. She worked on the campaign in 2000. I got to know her. I disagree with her on some issues. But shes a principled conservative that believes in integrity an democracy and the constitution. And elysse has become the exact opposite of what Liz Cheney is in this. So to me, its a perfect reflection. You know, they say that Power And Money reveals people for who they are. But i think one thing Liz Cheney is going have to ask herself throughout this is does she belong to a party that no longer represents what she stands for. And thats i mean, the party actually is picking who they want. And it seems to be going just towards somebody like at elysse. But Liz Cheney has to ask herself is the party that she thought she was part of is no longer exists. One thing i have been wondering an want to ask you about because it feels like a real Inflection Point in this moment in american politics. Are republicans like Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney and many others standing up and standing for truth and standing up against the lies that are being spouted, are they in denial that there is still a place for them in the Republican Party . That Big Tent is big enough . Yeah. Theyre in complete denial. They are unicorns. The krcrazy woman from coloro are all much more in line with where the republican base is. It seems to me that but what should liz say . Where should liz go . What do you do when youre a unicorn . Ive never been one. To me, their choice they have two choices today. The Republican Party does not fit them and does not believe in Integrity Today and does not believe in democracy. Their choice is either do a coalition with the democrats as some conservative part of the democratic party or become independents. Thats the only choice they have today in america. They do not fit the party. They do not fit where the Leadership S they do not fit where the base is. This is not the party they thought it was. It is not the part of bush or reagan. Its not the party of any past republicans. It is a party that does not believe in truth. But heres another layer of this. They have come out against her saying she is not actually conservative. They even say she is liberal. Because of her voting record, what she stood for prelets just say January 6th. But i guess that is just further proof to Cheneys Point and your point that this isnt about conservatism at all. This is about donald trump. The Term Conservative doesnt really even it means nothing today. It is trump is not a conservative. And most republicans in congress are not conservative. They dont believe in conservative principles. They dont believe in telling the truth. They dont believe in old fashioned values of integrity. They dont believe in any of that. Thats where we are today. Theyre going theyre about to choose somebody who is less conservative and less principled and willing to lie to the american public Over Snab is a principled conservative that desires to tell the truth to the american public. No matter the cost to her politically. Thats the choice theyre making. How do you make sense of that . Matthew, how do you make sense of that . As a pediatrician, what do you say when folks when parents come in and say there isnt enough data. They think there is not enough data for each vaccine . How do you give them enough shots for the kids . You have a vaccine or a placebo. There are 18 cases of disease, covid19. In that trial. All of which were in the placebo. Unfortunate li unfortunately children had to suffer because they didnt get a vaccine. Im sure the parents in the vaccine group, they were happy they were in the vaccine . Easy choice with the data that we have. And were about were in just a in the next several in a little bit, well run a piece, a new story about Vaccine Hesitancy among Adult Women. Some of the misinformation that theyre hearing is about vaccines impact fertility. I also had women ask me that same question about the vaccine and their daughters. You are hearing that . It was warned of the false notion that the Sars Covid19 and the protein which you make antibodies against with this vaccine mimics a protein on the cells. This Morning Florida became the latest republican led state to make official new laws that make it harder to vote. Not easier. The lies confusing many people and scaring many to not get a shot. We look at how Mom Groups have become particular targets. Whenever there is a discussion in the group about vaccinations or masks, the vibe is disturbed. Really . Yeah. Theres a lot of hate. A lot of name calling. Theyre like why are you putting this in your body . I dont want to be a scientist experiment. They tell people youre stupid for wanting to get it. One of the front lines of the Misinformation Wars is in an unexpected place. Mommy groups on facebook. You want to see . Theyre hesitant. There is distrust generally speaking. Like what do they say . Theyre concerned about infertility. Maureen is a person that faces a facebook group. She had to monitor the group much more closely since vud hit. It says just got my Vaccination Card and the card reads, go. [ beep ] yourself. So thats good. Rule number one is no vaccine discussion. Rule number six is no mask discussion. A lot of misinformation follows these types of things. And you kunind of want to be someone who is not going to give a platform for any talk that is not factual. Misinformation is circulating on Social Media that the Covid19 Vaccine can hurt womens fertility. By either attacking the placenta or causing a vaccinated person to shed the virus on to women and somehow affect their periods or pregnancies. There is no evidence of this. And the vaccines do not contain the virus. Unvaccinated women report miscarriages after interaction with vaccinated people. It was one Womans Case they had where she got herself that shot and was nursing her 6monthold and the baby died. Women in fertile years are experiencing severe Side Effects from people around them having received this vaccination. Those in the group trying to evade bans on antivaccine talk use the term medical freedom. This is the key word alert. Medical freedom. Medical freedom. Medical freedom. Medical freedom. Theyre all within minutes of each other. Pregnant women are allowed to get the vaccine. And it is widely being encouraged. I get asked about this every day. You know . All of my patients who are either trying to conceive or theyre already pregnant, they want to get the vaccine but they have that nagging worry in the back of their mind that this could cause infertility or miscarriage. We just know that is not true. But unfortunately, its such a scary thought that it just really stuck. The mrna vaccines from Pfizer And Moderna do not appear to pose any serious risk during pregnancy. According to published stories in the new England Journal of medicine. People that get covid19 are at increased risk for Preterm Birth and maternal death. I always talk to my patients about the risk benefit ratio. There are real risks. The if it youre pregnant and get sick with covid19, in my mind, the benefits outweigh the risks. Claims made about this vaccination particularly do target women. Right . They target women. Its funny because hesitancy that is shown among males is more politically charged. Thats what i have seen. We were set to interview multiple women who told us they dont want the vaccine. But they all bailed. Some say they feared backlash. That is not an irrational fear. There is a lot of shaming on Social Media which Public Health Experts say does not work. Some of the friends wouldnt talk on camera. Neither would women cnn spoke to in public parks. Influencers turned us down. So we went to an Outlet Mall and found this one woman. Sorry. Pt are you going to take the Covid19 Vaccine . At the moment, no. Im pregnant. But i heard a lot of stories about people losing babies and stuff. Okay. What kind of stories have you heard . I heard like after the vaccine they were having issues with the baby and losing baby. And where did you get to news about that . It was an article im not sure where. Okay. And then does your doctor say . She hasnt said anything. I havent asked her about it. It is completely understandable to be hesitant. I beat back hesitancy knowledge. Zbhi hope that people, like, will look and see where is this information coming from . Who is backing up this information . Is it something from the cdc or a quack doctor that who knows where he got his degree from . Is it influential at all to know there are other moms that got it . Im always getting questions. And theyll assume first that i am not getting vaccine or that i did not. So its kind of hard to tell them. And so hopefully me talking to day helps some crunchy mom go, okay, all right. But you have the most informed perspective on this. What do you see here . I think the individual risk to specific person is really, really low. You know, my concern is why did this happen . Was this just due to indifference or was there a failure of the rocket . That stage. The bigger problem is Space Junk in general. You know, were pretty good litterers and we littered up earth and now were littering up space. I want to ask you about that. But this fascinating aspect first that it seems even the smartest people arent able to calculate where this is going to land yet. Why cant they . I think its because the satellite is spinning. It doesnt have a stable trajectory. Its hard so the drag is always changing. If it was in a controlled orbit, you can get a much better idea of where its going to land. But a spinning satellite like that, you know, if youre just off by, you know, a few minutes youre talking hundreds and hundreds of miles. Always fascinating. The military said that theyre not going to shoot it down. Why do you think that is not a preferred option right now . Is it about the level of risk . You know, i just think that is, for one complicated. Two, it could make the potential, you know, the situation worse, perhaps. I dont know. Its just i dont think its really necessary. You know, there is risks, certainly. Its going to land somewhere. But 70 of our planet is water. You know, its probably going to land in the pacific ocean. Often when i was on the space station, you look out the window, its the pacific ocean. My bet is its going to land there. I will take your side of any bet when it comes to something like this, thats for sure. You raise this interesting point about Space Debris in general, we have all this junk flying around up there. Do we know how much there is . And what should actually be done about it . What do you think . So, there are tens of thousands of pieces of Space Debris, old satellites, satellites that have blown up, pieces of debris that china created with a satellite test. Theres also a Graveyard Orbit above, where its cheaper and easier to send an old satellite there, than it is to bring it back in a controlled fashion. The risk is, you know, we could one of the risks the biggest risks of going to mars is, flying through that Graveyard Orbit and getting hit with something. Breaking news out of South Carolina where a man is in custody after hijacking a School Bus at gunpoint and the bus was filled with Elementary School children at the time. Well go to Nick Valencia for more. Reporter it sounds like something out of a movie, it all unfolded about 7 00 a. M. This morning near columbia, South Carolina, Fort Jackson to be specific, where a trainee who had been on base for about three weeks decided to leave his post, armed with a rifle. Now, according to the Richland County Sheriffs Department they initially got 911 calls about an individual on Interstate 77 armed with a gun, trying to flag down vehicles, that suspect made his way to a Bus Stop where 18 elementary Age School kids were getting on bus on the bus on the their way to school. He got on board the bus, armed with that rifle and made everyone get to the front of that bus. According to the Law Enforcement there locally the kids started asking if he was going to harm them, and they said that this suspect, frustrated, made everyone get off the bus, including the driver and trying to drive the bus on his own unsuccessfully for a few miles. He was spotted wandering around a neighborhood asking for clothes and food and according to police he was arrested without incident. It was a nearby parent who had a kid on the bus who flagged down the sheriffs locally alerting them to the suspect on the bus armed with a gun. A scary situation there. The sheriff said its the scariest call you could possibly imagine getting that somebody armed with a rifle on a School Bus, with 18 elementary Age School children, the suspect just very quickly is expected to be charged with multiple counts of kidnapping. Just terrifying. Terrifying. How are the kids doing . Are you hearing anything about how theyre doing . Yeah, well evidently these children also had Cell Phones and they made the calls themselves to their parents alerting them to what was going on. The sheriff said that this they were, quote, scared to death, and that they have been offered Trauma Counseling as a result of the experience they went through. This is how they started their day, this morning, thinking, seemingly, its another normal day boarding the bus on their way to school, kate, only for a man, in his physical training uniform, getting on that bus, armed with a rifle, he left the rifle on the bus. So he wasnt armed when he was taken into custody but these kids, you know, they did see that gun.
