The White House hopes other countries will follow its lead. Well bring you the president s comments live in just a few moments. Right now, tension over Law Enforcement tactics is building. One day after celebrating the Derek Chauvin guilty verdict, minneapolis is mourning again. Daunte wright will be laid to rest today after being shot by an officer during a Traffic Stop. The former officer accidentally drew her handgun instead of a taser. Also in minnesota, Derek Chauvin awaits sentencing in june for murdering George Floyd. Hes being held in Solitary Confinement for his own safety and now the Justice Department is launching an investigation of the Minneapolis Police department. Meanwhile, Lebron James is facing a backlash for a post about another policeinvolved shooting in ohio. And Athena Jones is joining us from columbus. Athena, tell us the latest. Good morning. Theres frustration and a demand for answers here in columbus this morning. Many people in this community feel this latest case, the shooting of Police Shooting of Makiyah Bryant is an example of police not valuing the life of this young black girl. Meanwhile, Law Enforcement says that this shooting appears to be a reasonable use of force and they are focusing on transparency. The interim Police Chief saying the department was able to release that initial Body Camera Footage within about 5 1 2 hours of the incident. Thats the fastest theyve ever been able to do so. Anger and frustration with protesters gathering and demanding answers about the death of 16yearold Makiyah Bryant, shot and killed by a Police Officer tuesday. Nba star and akron, ohio, native Lebron James expressing his outrage over the shooting sending a nowdeleted tweet with a photo of a columbus Police Officer at the scene of the shooting with the caption, youre next. Accountability. James later explaining why he removed the tweet from his account. Writing, i took the tweet down because it is being used to create more hate. This isnt about one officer. Its about the entire system. I am so desperate for more accountability. We want full Accountability And Transparency in what happened for Makiyah Bryant. This shared by many seeking answers. An investigation is under way looking into the fatal shooting of the teen who attempted to stab two people with a knife. Regardless of the circumstances associated with this, a 16yearold girl lost her life. I sure as Hell Wish it hadnt happened. The final moments of Bryants Life unfolding in just seconds. Columbus police and officials releasing Body Camera Footage. We warn you its disturbing. Showing officer Nicholas Riordan responding to a 911 call from an Unknown Caller tuesday afternoon. Weve got these girls over here trying to fight us, trying to stab us. Get here now the officer approaches a group in the driveway outside a home. Bryant appearing to push a person to the ground before she moves toward another wearing pink. The Officer Firing four shots killing bryant. Despite efforts to save her on the scene, the teen died. Authorities releasing this slowed down video seemingly showing bryant holding a knife in her hand. Aiming it toward the person in pink. In the wake of the shooting, the mayor asking the community to wait as the city investigates whether the officers actions were justified. We know you have to have all of the facts, but we do know that a 16yearold girl, a child in this community, tragically died. Reporter now the officer is on paid leave while an independent investigation being conducted by the bureau of criminal investigations, part of the State Attorney generals office, is under way. John . Thanks so much for being there. From a Law Enforcement perspective, i want to bring in art acevedo. He was Chief Of Police in houston during George Floyds funeral. Lebron james took down the tweet that he posted that said, youre next. It had an image of a Police Officer. He said it wasnt about violence but accountability. Still, what was your reaction when you saw that from Lebron James . You know, that was the first time i heard of it. Its disappointing because, look, this is such a tragic event. A 16yearold young girl has lost her life, but i think were forgetting that other lives were at risk and those were innocent young people that were at risk of being stabbed. And my understanding is that one person was stabbed. And she was in attempting to stab someone else. And so i think we all need to start taking steps back, taking a deep breath. Recognizing its tragic, but we need to understand that what would the conversation have been had the officer not taken that shot or those shots and another person was stabbed to death in front of his eyes . I think it would be another conversation. So lets talk about why was there a 16yearold with a knife . Are we doing enough for Mental Health in this country for young people and counseling and all the things that when i was a kid, we had counselors, school nurses, school psychologists. A lot of places dont have that anymore. When you talk about investments to avoid these confrontations and talk about accountability. But its truly a twoway street. We have to step back and look at the totality of each case. During the News Conference yesterday, the chief there was asked a question about the decision the officer made. Lets listen to that. Yeah. Can an officer shoot the leg . Can they shoot somewhere that would not result in a fatal wound, right . So a lot of people have said, couldnt he have just shot her in the leg so she could have dropped. Couldnt he have shot her in the arm . One of the difficult things with that is, when youre trying we dont train to shoot the leg because thats a small target. We train to shoot center mass. What is available to stop that threat. We train to shoot center mass. You know this is a question a lot of people ask when they see something like this. Help us understand that answer. Well, i think that thats the real world we live in. This is unfortunately, the Publics Perception of what police can, cant do, should, shouldnt do, is greatly, i think, influenced by hollywood. The Starsky Hutch movies where theyre running a mile after someone, jumping over cars in between buildings and roll over a car, take a shot and hit the guy in the arm. Thats not real world. Thats not real life. We dont get a second, third, fourth take. And so we do train to shoot center mass. I can tell you that s. W. A. T. Officers, The Public hates, they have disdain for them, those officers, especially the snipers from a distance, can and are trained highly trained to take shots that sometimes will save lives that arent fatal shots. And so the answers arent they are difficult. I think that we need to keep having them but we all need to take a deep breath. We cant just say a young person has died. Police must have messed it up because until you find yourself in those situations where you have to make those splitsecond decisions, you cant really appreciate. Let me tell you, i have fired a lot of cops. Investigated a lot of cops in my career. But weve got to call balls and strikes. From what ive seen so far, i dont think as it relates to the officers actions this is the one we should hang our hats on. We need to step back and say, how did we get there in the first place, and are we doing enough to invest in Mental Health in this Country And Counseling and education and all the things that create healthy young people and ultimately healthy adults. Chief, theres a new law on the books in florida pushed by florida governor ron desantis. He calls it this antiriot measure. There are many people who fear it cracks down on civil rights and civil liberties and could put people in legal protest at jeopardy if the protests get violent, even if they dont engage in any violence. Miami Mayor Suarez says, i dont see why this law is necessary. Whats your view on it . I share Frances Suarez is one of the most intelligent, balanced, i think, bright leaders in our country right now. And i share his sentiments. Look. Rioting was already against the law. I think there was one aspect of the law that said if you hurt an officer, theres a penalty announcement. That may make sense because officers have been a couple of officers have been killed last summer. Seriously injured. But it was really a law in search of a problem, to be honest with you. Because Theres Something that can be done in a Riot Situation where we dont already have laws on the books that could have taken care of it. Its a little more political theater than it is good policy. The one part that i worry about, the stand your ground laws, The Castle doctrines, when people that are people of Conscience Exercise those rights, there isnt a problem. When theres people looking to be able to take a life, especially a life of someone they dont agree with, it can be problematic. Its not going to change the way we do business. Well protect the first. My motto is, defend the first and thats where Youll Ton do. The first amendments fundamental right, but people going, engaging in rioting, were going to focus on the rioters and not on peaceful protesters. Chief art acevedo, thank you for being with us. Thats really something. Have a great day. A law in search of a problem, he said. Yeah. You know how the mayor of miami, the Police Chief of miami saying theres a new law. Has to do with the whole state, but miami saying, we dont need this. We dont want this. Very interesting interview. The Coronavirus Vaccine Couldnt come soon enough and suddenly we have too much. 87 Million americans are now fully vaccinated. But experts are warning of a new challenge. And thats that the u. S. Is reaching a Tipping Point with Vaccine Supply threatening to overwhelm demand, according to a new report thats out from the Kaiser Family Foundation. Joining us now is cnn senior medical correspondent elizabeth cohen. Elizabeth, this is being framed as a problem. Is this a problem . The problem is the problem that we have a lot of vaccine, that is a good problem to have. The problem is too many americans are unenthusiastic about getting vaccinated. Lets Take A Look at what this Kaiser Family Foundation survey found. They found in two weeks, everyone who wants a shot will have one. If you want a shot within two weeks, youll already have had it or be about to get one. And 37 of americans dont want the Shot Or Arent sure. That is a problem. Its going to be a problem to reach Herd Immunity if 37 of americans dont get vaccinated. So South Dakota governor Kristi Noem announced her state will ban Vaccine Passports. She said i encourage all South Dakotans to get vaccinated but were not going to mandate such activity or restrict freedom with unamerican policies like Vaccine Passports. Florida, texas have announced similar demands. What are the benefits of having a Vaccine Passport System and does a ban on passports disincentivize people to get the vaccine . So, john, first lets Take A Look at how many states where governors where the governors have said, opposed to them or have talked about some opposition to Vaccine Passports. Its a lot of states. Its about 23 states. Almost half of the country the governors have voiced some opposition to passports. You can see this is not a terribly popular thing. The advantages are obvious. Youre telling people, look, if you want to go into a restaurant into a concert or whatever venues they choose, you cant unless you have a vaccine passport. That could incentivize many people to get vaccinated. The concern is that a big chunk of those 37 of americans that i just mentioned, a big chunk of those are conservatives. Theyre pretty angry about all of this. And if you start mandating Vaccine Passports it might make them dig their heels in even more and say im not going to get vaccinated because i dont like being told what to do. For better or worse and you can judge that, that could be the reality. Another point to keep in mind is that Vaccine Passports dont take into account people who have immunity from previous infection. In israel where they have a lot of experience with passport. You get a passport if you had covid. Just having covid gets you a passport. A lot of people in the United States, maybe as many as 1 in 4, 1 in 5 have had covid. Those people wouldnt be accounted for in a Vaccine Passport System. Thats a very good point. And you know, No Vaccinate is expected to be completely effective, right, 100 effective in preventing disease. But a new study shows that 0. 5 of participants became infected after being fully vaccinated. So break down these numbers for us in the study and tell us how significant this is. Right. That is still such a teeny tiny number. Lets Take A Look at this study. It was employees at Rockefeller University in New York who had been vaccinated. There were 417 of them. Only 2 of them got covid after being vaccinated. Both of them had variants. That tells us a lot. These variants are a problem. And we certainly want to address them. And thats why vaccine companies like Pfizer And Moderna are trying to come up with boosters to account for these variants. So hopefully the vaccines will be even better in the future. But still, 2 out of 417 getting covid, thats a pretty great number. Minuscule. Its amazing. Thank you so much, great to see you. Thats how you do it right. Usaa insurance is made just the way martins family needs it with hasslefree claims, he got paid before his neighbor even got started. Because doing right by our members, thats whats right. Usaa. What youre made of, were made for. Usaa just hours from now, Daunte Wright will be laid to rest, helping his friends and family say their final goodbyes is never easy. But for one funeral director, the most difficult part is coming facetoface with yet another killing of an unarmed black man. Cnns Adrienne Broaddus with more on this really touching story. Reporter good morning, john. Tracy wesley says it never gets easy. Its one thing when people transition or die because of natural causes but he is troubled when people, especially, he says, black Men And Women, are killed, unarmed at the hands of police. Its hard. Reporter for three decades, Tracy Wesley has met people on lifes most difficult days. Yeah, absolute worst. Reporter he runs estes Funeral Chapel, one of only two blackowned Funeral Homes in minnesota. And hes handled some of the twin citys most highprofile deaths. Jamar clark. Weve dealt with George Floyd. And now here we are with Daunte Wright. Not only have you lost, but youre suffering a loss that was unnecessary. Reporter as George Floyds family celebrated a guilty verdict for the murder of their Loved One it will be this one here. Reporter wesley helped Daunte Wrights family arrange their sons funeral. Wesley said the urn is red for dauntes favorite color. The casket holding his body for viewing, white. With the white roses, they just kind of liked that. Reporter wright was shot and killed by police during a Traffic Stop about 15 miles from the Cup Foods where George Floyd was killed. Its a little bit of a different State Of Mind that you have to be in to help. On one hand, youre upset being africanamerican in this country. And on the other hand, being a professional, you have to do all that you can to focus to help our families. Reporter wesley has also handled killings, people of the state outside of minnesota no nothing about. They are among the names here at this symbolic cemetery called say their names. Just too many names. Reporter stevante Clarks Brother is among those at this site. Here, Men And Women killed by police are honored. Sacramento police shot and killed Clarks Brother in 2018. They thought he had a gun, but only discovered a cell phone. Now Daunte Wright will join the other names. My heart breaks for the family because this is a Club Nobody wants to be a part of. Reporter the youngest was 7 years old. I see different names that really bring back to like, whoa, we couldnt get together after. Where did people go wrong . Wheres the respect for life . Reporter in the face of death, wesley does his part to help families celebrate life. Because you know this is the last this is the last piece thats going to hold my Loved One. So its tough. Reporter and one thing, these families dont get to grieve like other families when they are killed by police. Thats Something Lee Merit told me, the attorney representing ah ahmaud arberys family. He also said on this day when the Wright Family prepares to say goodbye to daunte here at this north minneapolis church. He said let everyone else, let the community do the fighting for you and take this time to grieve and mourning the 20yearold you loved so much. John . Adrienne, thank you for that report. A wonderful report from minneapolis. With us now is naisha wright, the aunt of Daunte Wright. And were also joined by the familys attorney, benjamin crump. Thank you so much for being with us. Yes, maam. This is a day good morning. Good morning to you. You are going to be gathering as a family and as a community to lay daunte to rest. And so much of the country has seen the tape. They have seen the video, but they dont know daunte. What do you want people to know about your nephew . Daunte was a shining light. He was a shining light. He was loved. He was a man in the making. He was somebody. He was human. He died we cant understand why. Why . Why did he have to die the way he died . My family has to still come to grips with that. You know, its sad. Its just not my family in america. You know, because the color of our skin. Our men, our young men, they are being murdered. And its sad. We Cant Figure out why. We are such loving people. We are so loving. The black community is very accepting, and we accept all. But to keep having our nephews, our sons, our fathers, our brothers and stuff taken from us for no reason at all is hard. Unfortunately im sorry. Yes, maam. No, please go ahead. You said unfortunately. Unfortunately, you know, at this time, i have to be the voice for so many people, not just for my family, not just for daunte, even though they took my Nephews Voice from him. But now i have to be the one to try to speak to try to get it out there. No more. We cant keep having this. We just want to be accepted. And today i have to go lay my nephew to rest on my mothers 60th birthday. My brother and my sister should not have to go through this. They should not have to go through this. Nor should any other mother, Father Or Anyone have to go through an unjust murder like what happened. Naisha, people hear your pain. They hear you as you are speaking for your family. There are so many questions about where things go from here. You know that kim potter, who is the former now former Police Officer who shot your nephew, is out on bail. What do you want to see happen . What is accountability look like here to you . What does it look like to me . One, i would love to have my nephew. We would love to have him back. This young man means so much to us. So much to his mother, so much to his father. But we know we cant get that, right . So we can get some type of justice because my nephew was murdered. We would love that. It would be a bittersweet moment, of course, because again, today we close that casket on my nephew. This is the last day that we can ever touch, we can ever see him. Ben, we know we can give something where other families dont have to go through this. See, people may see the pain, but you dont feel this pain. And this pain runs deep. And its a difference. And i appreciate everyone, but no family should have to go through this again. No family. And thats what we want. We want to make sure that other families dont have to go through this. You know . I mean, come on. Why do we have to keep going through burying our babies . I sat up all night staring at the ceiling thinking, oh, my gosh, this is really happening. Why do we have to keep going through this . Im sorry. Naisha, you do not need to apologize. You make such an important point there because i think, as people listen to you, they try to imagine your pain, and i imagine, quite frankly, its too painful for them to continue imagining it. You get sort of a glimpse of what it might be, but that is what you are living right now. And we are hearing that, definitely. Ben, i want to ask you, because in this video, we hear the Police Officer alerting other officers that she is going to tase Daunte Wright and yet were watching and we see shes not holding a taser. Shes holding a gun. And instead, she shot him. How do you mistake a taser for a gun is very hard to comprehend but it appears in this case that she did that. Does that make the actions that led to Daunte Wrights death complicated here as far as the legal process will go . Well, you know, unfortunately, we live in a legal process that always tries to justify the unjustifiable killings of black people in america. Unarmed black people. And i honestly believe, brianna, that when its marginalized minorities, especially black people, police engage in the most excessive use of force. This was for a minor Traffic Violation about a tag not being registered, even though during the pandemic, there was a memo that many peoples tags were not registered because they couldnt do it. It was shut down. So once again, we have a Traffic Stop leading to a Death Sentence of a black person, and this whole notion that we tase or we arrest black people when there are minor misdemeanors is a reason that leads to deadly consequences. Naisha, i know you said a week ago that this former officer held the gun in front of her for a long time. That clearly she should have known the difference. Do you think do you think that this was a mixup . Do you think that if daunte were white that he would not have even been tased . How do you see what happened . I will tell you like this. We all know the difference. A taser is bright yellow. This is bright as my nails. A gun is just as black as the clothes that you see me wearing. So for the 30 seconds, you hold something out in front of you for 30 seconds, and tell me, within that 30 seconds youre not going to look down at your hands, not at least one time . When there are different safety things that you have to unleash before you shoot a gun, before you shoot a taser, okay . My grandmother, my father, i have so many family and Law Enforcement. My grandmother is a retired sheriff of over 28 years. Ive seen her come home plenty of nights, plenty of nights with her gun on her side and everything. Theres no mistaking. Yeah, and brianna, just the weight of it. Youve got a gun that weighs 2 1 2 pounds, 2. 6 ponds, the taser was 8 ounces. The gun is on your dominant side. You have to remove a button to get the gun out. Your taser is on your nondominant side. Its shaped different. You have to do certain things to a taser to engage it. It is so troubling that you have yet again another unarmed black person. We have oscar Grants Family coming to the funeral. Over a decade ago, he was killed, his head was blown off. The officer, while he was handcuffed talking about he was trying to tase him. Why were you even trying to tase him . Hes face down in handcuffs. And yet again, we are continuing with these justifications of unjustified killings. And in america, we can do better. We can have better policing in america. Thats why we pray that President Biden goes through with his promise to George Floyds family that we will get this George Floyd justice in Policing Act passed so we can hopefully prevent some of these hashtags, these unnecessary killings and these painful, godawful painful funerals that we keep having to go through. So that we dont have to be having this interview, right . That is the hope because we do a lot of these, unfortunately. You mentioned George Floyds family, ben. Naisha, some of his relatives are expected to attend the funeral of your nephew daunte. What does that mean to you . Yes. Oh, my goodness, it has been such an honor to meet their family and to really sit down and speak with them. They are some of the most beautiful people. Like they have given my family so much support. And even what theyve been dealing with, like literally, they put aside what they are dealing with to see how my family is doing. And it takes a lot of strength. It takes a lot of Strngt Ength E able to do that. Theyve seen over and over and over and over their brother, their Uncle Being murdered. Murdered yes. In front of millions. Yeah. And that family, they see us, and they give us hugs, you know, just yes, encouragement to keep going because thats what were going to do. Were going to keep fighting. You know, im going to keep fighting. Because this isnt over with. You know, yes, it was amazing to get that judgment that came in, but weve got to keep pushing because weve been fighting way too long for this, way too long to be accepted as people. And we are people. We are Human Beings. If i cut you and you cut me, we both bleed red. Were not bleeding no different. Amen. And we just want to be treated again the same. We want the same. When it comes to the police, again, im going to say this, we want the highest. Why . Because they take an oath to protect and to serve us. Just like doctors take an oath. If doctors socalled make a mistake, oh, they go for them. So again, for the people who protect and serve us, you take an oath to protect me. To protect my children. To protect ben. To protect everybody. At the end, we shouldnt end up six feet deep. Naisha, ben sorry, go on, ben. No, i was going to say, with my legal team representing both George Floyd family and Daunte Wright family, it is so fascinating to have these Family Dinners where Daunte Wrights family is starting to go through what George Floyds family had to go through this time last year. And to watch how painful it is, but the advice they give them of saying theyre going to try assassinate Dauntes Character like they tried to do George Floyd, but you all define his legacy. Dont let this racist society define this young black Persons Existence in this world. Lets let a better society, a more loving society define the existence of this 20yearold young man who, as his aunt said, was a man in the making. What could have come of daunte had she deescalated the situation versus escalating it. These are all very good questions, ben. Naisha, i want to thank you so much for coming on and sharing your heart with us. You are right. We cannot feel your pain. But we are hearing it loud and clear. We are seeing it. We are witnessing it. Thank you. And we are thinking of your family and you today. Thank you. Thank you. In the wake of Derek Chauvins conviction and after nearly a year of protests, democrats in congress are determined to pass legislation aimed at reforming police. So what can they realistically get passed with bipartisan support . Joining us now to discuss this is the House Majority Whip James Clyburn of south carolina. Hes a member of the congressional black caucus. Sir, i think i hope you just heard that interview there with Daunte Wrights aunt. And this is what she is asking for. She is crying for congress to do something, to address this problem so that there is not another Aunt Or Mother or father standing where she is. What can be achieved here . Well, thank you very much for having me. I did listen to that interview. And i really grieve with her. I said on yesterday, i have a 26yearold grandson. And he lives across the street from me. And i have a strange feeling whenever i look and dont see his car at home, especially if its late at night. Worried about what may be happening with him. And thats the feeling thats in every family, africanamerican family, in this country. And it should not be that way. I didnt grow up with that kind of feeling. We did have issues. We did get those lectures from our parents as to how to conduct ourselves when you encounter Police Officers because i grew up in a Segregated South where at one time, lynching was a pastime. So i understand all of that. But i thought sincerely thought, that we were putting all of this behind us. Now we are trying to address this Issue Today with the George Floyd justice in Policing Act. And its simply an act that outlaws things like chokeholds. It gets rid of socalled qualified immunity because qualified immunity has become absolute immunity. We want, as has taken Place Today in minneapolis, we wanted to reinstate patterns and practices of investigations and im glad this administration is going to do that as it relates to minneapolis. Thats what we did in ferguson years ago. Thats how it got to the bottom of what was happening to people in ferguson. And when i think of the way the police are conducting themselves, some of them not all of them most of them are very honorable people. But this Aunt Today is expressing the same thing that i have expressed for a long time. And that is we hold doctors and lawyers and other professionals accountable. Why is it that we have such a hard Job Holding Police Officers accountable . That has to stop. We cant keep doing this. We are our society is devolving into something untoward for Human Beings. I do want to ask you particularly about a compromise that is being discussed, including with republican senator Tim Scott from your state. And qualified immunity you mentioned. Democrats want to get rid of that protection for officers as it shields them from excessive force. What weve seen from Tim Scott is putting the onus on Police Departments so the victims families have a place to go and seek, you know, to sort of seek out blame, but it would be from the department, not from the individual officers. Is that something that you would accept . Well, you know, im going to accept anything that they come up with. But i will say this. That is a good start if it doesnt because ive been saying for a long time now, this is not about training. People keep saying, you got to get better trained officers. Nope. Youve got to be better Human Beings to be officers. This is about recruiting. And if you put the recruiting, this onus on the backs of the police department, it might help them to recruit better people. Let me tell you something. Ive heard in my state of Police Departments hiring people because how they look and how big they are and in some instances, whether or not they can be insensitive. That is not good policing. Thats the kind of Foolishness Weve got to stop. So if we hold Police Departments hold them responsible, maybe theyll do better recruiting. There are so many people right now in the country who are trying to figure out how to talk about race and the deaths of africanamericans. The House Speaker herself has demonstrated this. This happened yesterday. I want to listen to what she said. Thank you, George Floyd, for sacrificing your life for justice. For being there to call out to your mom how heartbreaking was that . Call out for your mom. I cant breathe. But because of you and because of thousands millions of people Around The World who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice. She corrected that in a tweet, mr. Clyburn, but i wonder what your reaction was to what she said and if youve had a chance to discuss it with her. I was standing next to her when she said it. And i realized what she meant. My goodness. All of us sometimes put the infinitive in the wrong place. It was for having sacrificed your life. She just used the wrong infinitive and i wish we all had times to consider our grammar before we get ready to speak. We dont do that. So she meant absolutely nothing by that but exactly what she corrected in her tweet. And he did sacrifice his life. Maybe against his will, but he did. I want to ask you. The expectation of how republicans use loaded words about violence when tensions are high. Weve seen why. Weve seen why that is necessary. Weve seen january 6th. But one of your fellow democrats, maxine waters, ahead of the Chauvin Verdict said that activists should get more confrontational if the former Officer Wasnt convicted. Do democrats i know youre saying people are misspeaking, but in moments where there is so much tension, do democrats need to make sure that they are holding themselves to this same standard of watching how they speak when there could be violence . Very conscious of having to watch our speech. Maxine waters was making reference to Martin Luther King jr. s edict on confrontations. I happen to have grown up in that era. Happened to have been a disciple of his, and ive studied his socalled C Project which stood for confrontation. Thats what maxine was saying and people ran with the word rather than the meaning behind what she was saying. We have to confront injustice. My dad used to tell me all the time, son, silence is consent. You speak up. John lewis all the time, when you see something, say something. Weve adopted that for our messages at airports. So she was confronting and she was saying to people, we must confront these injustices. She wasnt saying anything that would border on Anything Akin to insurrection. A real Spring Thaw in the jobs market. This is a pandemic low for jobless benefits. 547,000 in the most recent weeks. You can see the trend there behind me. Its very clear these numbers are getting better. Layoffs are slowing. Vaccinations, some reopenings. Youre starting to see people get hired and fewer people being laid off. Altogether, though, still 17. 4 million people on some sort of jobless benefit. That shows you the depth of the crisis. A lot of folks relying on a job else check but we know these numbers are getting better. Along the lines of context for how bad it was, we have new analysis from the bureau of lash statistics that shows about 1 in 10 american families suffered some sort of Job Loss in the last year. Thats one person in the family and its not really that even here. You can see hispanic families fared the worst with 14. 3 of hispanic families losing a job. About 9 for whites. Thats a different pattern than weve seen in previous crises. So thats because so many people in the Service And Hospitality sector lost their jobs, john. We have a long way to go, but to see these numbers consistently drop the way they are, its what you want to be seeing. The White House calling on bosses around the country to give workers time off to get vaccinated. And theres no excuse here. Theyre saying there will be a new Tax Credit so the company will be paid. Small companies, too, for offering a day off for the vaccination and time off for recovery if you feel under the weather after youve had the vaccine. The president making very clear that no worker in this country should have to lose a single dollar out of their own pocket to fulfill their Pandemic Obligation of getting vaccinated. Also really encouraging younger people to be vaccinated so the workforce can get vaccinated. We can get back to normal, john. Cannot wait for that. That would be nice. Yeah, wouldnt it be . Disturbing new report shows that the world has taken notice of the Qanon Conspiracy Theory craziness and some american enemies are using it against the u. S. John avlon has our reality check. With a history of our time is written, people are going to scratch their heads trying to figure out how a selfevidently insane Conspiracy Theory called Qanon Elbowed its way into american politics. Now i wont waste your Brain Cells trying to explain it except to say its basically a Madlibs Version of negative partisanship on pcp involving baseless allegations of satanism, pedophilia and the deep state. Dont believe me . Heres a precongress qanon curious marjorie taylor greene. Theres a Once In A Lifetime opportunity to take this global cable of Satan Worshiping pedophiles out. And trump fanned its flames praising its followers as people who love our country. By which he meant people who love him. Its a common mistake. But Qanon Believers say theyre super patriots. Its how they justify all manner of sins like buying into trumps big lie, storming the capitol and hoping President Bidens inauguration would be arrested by the Mass Execution of democrats. This inspired perhaps the saddest Fact Check of all time. So its kind of perfect to find these selfstyled super patriots have been playing into the hands of hostile foreign powers. Hellbent on destroying our democracy. Talk about a confederacy of dunces. Thats according to a new report that details the ways that authoritarian states like Russia And China have been pumping up qanon. Now, its no surprise that trumpists would echo russian disinfo, but it might surprise you that china pushed Qanon Craziness last year on facebook with Iran And Saudi arabia throwing in as well. And in the first two months of this year, china took the lead making up 58 of foreign influence on qanon posts. Why would they want to stir the crazy pot . Well, as the report states, amplifying Qanon Messaging is a strike against the United States core. Democratic values. Some jan folks had a crisis of faith after their dark fantasies failed to materialize. The report highlights ongoing efforts to radicalize q followers with rhetoric they say bears striking resemblance to Al Qaeda and socalled islamic state. Namely that theres no political solution and that violence is the only way forward. Its a reminder that extremes ultimately come to resemble each other. Theres nor bad News Despyite being debunked. They arent going to let facts stop them. They continue to push antimask and antivaccine conspiracies. But theyre running for local office like school board, city council. Now less than 10 of americans now say they like qanon but thats still too many because it means that crazy has a constituency. You Cant Reason Someone out of something they werent reasoned into, but heres what you can, though. The people who screamed loudest about being super patriots are the ones being manipulated by hostile foreign powers. Their Conspiracy Theorys are actively being used to undermine our democracy and divide the United States, which is the opposite of putting america first. And thats your reality check. I sort of envision, you know, the russian and chinese intelligence services looking at Television Coverage of america saying, wait, there are people who believe this junk . I mean, you dont have to be intelligent to figure out thats easily manipulated. Its like a gift. Huge gift. And were just doing it to ourselves. Theyre just taking advantage of us. John avlon, thank you for that. All right. Busy day. A lot going on. And an emotional day. Terrific interview you did with Daunte Wrights aunt. Really, really moving. Cnns coverage continues, right after this. Very good thursday morning. Im jim sciutto. Im poppy harlow. Breaking news. Just minutes ago, President Biden unveiling an ambitious new goal making it clear he wants the United States to lead the Climate Crisis fight. Biden announced at his virtual Climate Summit with dozens of World Leaders that the u. S. Will cut Greenhouse Gas emissions by at least half by 2030. This is a significant uptick in the u. S. Commitment, even well above that from the obama administration. He does say, we as a country, cannot do it alone. No nation can solve this crisis on our own as you fully understand. All of us, all of us, and particularly those of White House represent the worlds largest economies have to step up. Scientists tell us this is the decisive
