It is and it is not only in protests, we need to sign petitions and talk to our alderman, and lightfoot, we need to ask for it now. Reporter how tough was it to watch that video . It is hard to say, i want to acknowledge that as people we are being decenttized to violence. It is hard and it is surreal. It is a reality. Reporter thank you for sharing with me. Of course that video shows several different clips for the police that he had a gun in his hand and whats going on around the world. When you see this crowd and whats been going on for hours. The mayor did an impassionate speech this week. In the city chicago, within 750 people were killed. It is the pain that comes as you talk to them. They are upset and frustrated by the Violence And Lack of gun control. They definitely want to see something happens towards the officers who open fire. We should remember something else. Chicago Police Department Department says they thought their officers had to make a split second decision. He felt terrible about what happened. Lets turn this way, pamela, and look at this crowd stretching more than three city blocks. It has remained totally peaceful. Folks who are here want their voices to be heard. Hes armed and dangerous. Police a short time ago gave an update on the search. We have lifted the shelter in place order. We are telling people they can go ahead and come out of their businesses and residences in this area but to remain vigilant and be safe. At this point i think it is proper for us to ask once again of our public please help us. If you have where this individual may be, if you see him, do not approach him. Omar hjimenez is in minneapolis for us. We are talking about derek Chauvins Trial and it enters a critical phase tomorrow, tell us what happens there in anticipation . Reporter businesses are boarding up and the Law Enforcement Presence is up. The public School System here is moving everyone to remote leale learning. All in anticipation of the final stages in this trial. A process thats been nearly a year in the making. Now to give you an idea of what well see tomorrow will be C Closing arguments but once those are complete, the jurors in this case will be sequestered. When talk about the stakes in this, maybe no better than the Lieutenant Governor here, Peggy Flanagan puts out a statement reading in part i am grappling with the Starke Reality that minnesota is a place where it is not safe to be black. Thats the essence of emergency and she feels many minnesotans feel this. They dont feel it is just George Floyd on trial here but it is everyone is on trial. Whats happening over there . Reporter yeah, we have seen protests every single night since the Shooting And Killing of 20yearsold Daunte Wright at the hands of police. A dark reminder, that behind Americas Gun Violence statistics, lives cut short and families turned apart. People gathering there are grieving and mark the death of thursdays mass shooting. It is a scene thats all too common in america. Ahead this hour, half of all adults in the u. S. Have had one covid vaccine dose. Younger people are proven harder to convince. Do not adjust your Beach Chair in florida. Look at this. The pilot as a World War ii makes an incredible emergency landing. At capella university, we know the world is pretty smart. Wicked smart. We are watching minneapolis. Joining me now is robert dias senor. Thank you both for coming on. There is so much at stake in the days ahead. What is your reaction to whats going on in minneapolis as america awaits a verdict . We think about 2021, the police already killed 300 people in this year alone. I think people are looking for some sort sof accountability. People want to move beyond policing. The highest number of convictions ever in a given year to police killings is 11. Police killed about 1100 people every year of the highest conviction ever is 11. Well see this case. They only need one person out of 12. They only need one person in that jury and i am hopeful this time is different. All right, lets talk about that, what do you think is going to happen roberto if chauvin is not con vvicted . I think it is going to be a serious situation. I dont know whats going to happen at that. Thats the beauty of the system is they hear the evidence and they come up with the verdict. There will be a serious incident throughout the country because of peoples expectations that hes guilty and anyone who watched the video has their own perception of who they are. The case against derek chauvin, deray, do you think the prosecution proven its case beyond . I do expect a condition. I think the police also want there to be a conviction so it can ease up the pressure of police. They are hopeful that a C Conviction here will make people think the system does work some time. I think even with a conviction, people should still press really hard. We deserve something much better than what we have today. We can think of a system of Justice And Safety that does not need people with guns to respond to all these things. Thats a basic demand. We can reallocate funds and tighten it up. Conviction does not stop the urgency. One of the things that stuck out about this trial compares to other police trial, roberto, is the number of chauvins former colleagues on the forest testifying against him including the chief of police. There has been this tradition of silence among Police Officers in cases like this. How significance is this that these officers are testifying this way . Anyone seeing that video clearly understood that action was wrong. I have not talked to a single officer of his action was expected. In my mind he is guilty. Whether that is unique or not, i understand the feeling on that. This is not going to make things go away. I dont think police want all the issues go away or naive enough expecting it to go away. Everyone wants to get this trial over because it was so blatant and obvious and move on with other effective reform. Deray, i want to ask you, you have seen the scene going on across the country, we saw the marching in chicago and we saw what was going don in minneapolis as we await the verdict. We see the shootings involving police in the last few days. How do you describe the moment now as a country. The killing of michael brown, in 2014 we were convincing people there was a problem. I remember we left the street initially and we were going to places. This is not just ferguson, this is your neighborhood, too. This is your city. Now i think people generally understand. Whether they saw the video or not, they sort of get it. People want to know whats the change. It disnot change their behavior. Body camera, research is clear. It may change police Officers Attitude but not their behavior. You can do whatever you want. This is a time to do what maryland did. The most aggressive scaled back in the united states. The most aggressive system, they just did it. New jersey, the most aggressive use of force policies in the united states, right . These are things, missouri is about to pass the Officer Bill of rights. Georgia passed the bill of rights after they killed rochard brooks. Time is now for change. What do you think Police Reform should look like, roberto . I dont think there is one single element is going to change things. I do think the training as an impact. I also do think accountability needs to be improved. I think the issues where we have unions against any kinds of capabilities head strong the Police Exec tutives out there. Accountability is one of them but it has to be based on true and accurate reflections of all the elements and not just a single clip or photograph. Roberto and deray, thank you, both. Tonight i am learning new details of how the biden administration will make it easier for any adults who want a Covid19 Vaccine Shot to get one, stay with me, you are in the cnn newsroom.
