The arms of more americans. Each day of this past week more than 3 million vaccinations administered. Nearly one in four americans have received at least one dose. And 13 of the country is fully innoculated. Today a grave tone from dr. Rochelle walensky pleading with americans to keep masks on, keep social distancing as nearly 10 Million People traveled through the airports in the past week. As i stated before, the Continuedation Of Prevention Measures while cases are high and concerning variants are spreading rapidly throughout the United States is a serious threat to the progress we have made as a nation. I am worried that if we dont take the right actions now we will have another avoidable surge. Cnns Kristen Holmes with us to talk about the Astrazenica Trial here in the u. S. There was a lot of concern about blood clots with this vaccine particularly when it came to women younger than 5 a. What do the Trial Results show. Brianna, the vaccine shows the vaccine was well received in the phase 3 trial and there was no indication of safety concerns, something that the white house was stressing today. Remember, back in just earlier in the last couple of weeks we have seen multiple European Countries pause the astrazenica Vaccine Rollout because of these reports of blood clots. Now this data is showing there is absolutely nothing to be concerned about terms of safety. Listen to what dr. Fauci said today. During this trial here there was no indication at all. The fda is going to very, very carefully go over all of these data. There will be an application for an eua. And i can tell you you can rest assured that the fda will put a great deal of scrutiny in every aspect of these data. And brianna, dr. Fauci there is really reiterating much of things that we have heard from one after another of the Health Officials who continue to say that there is, you know, going to be a lot of questions because of these reports that there are going to be some issues. Now one other thing i want to point out here is that this marks the beginning of the process for that Emergency Use authorization. We heard from the president Of Astrazenica earlier today saying they are hoping to file for that eua at the beginning of april, and that they have 30 million doses that are ready to go out as soon as they are, if they are approved. So something to keep an eye on there. This all happening at a time where we really start to see a rampup in the production. We are expect to have by the end of the month 20 million more doses of johnson johnson. We did hear, though, process the white house during the past briefing they werent going to commit to the number, even though we heard them commit to that number before. But we are expecting significant ramp up in all of the vaccines. Potentially good information here. Kristen, thank you so much. Breaking today Research Shows as many as a third of people recovering from Kerpz Coronavirus are dealing with longlasting symptoms. I want to bring in Jacqueline Howard on this. What else, jacqueline, witho are we learning from the study. S in a study that helps describe the body of research that we have on the lingering symptoms and complications that are sometimes seen with covid19. And the data do suggest, like you said, a third of hospitalized covid19 patients do tend to see the lingering symptoms. Now here is how the new study described what it calls post acute covid19. Acute covid 19 is what we typically think about when we think of the disease. Symptoms last about four weeks. You recover, move on and youre fine. With postacute covid19 that describes lingering symptoms beyond four weeks. This is often seen in hospitalized patients. Here a a list of the new research that tells us sometimes is common with postacued covid19. Fatigue, musculature. Weakness. Shortness of breath. Pain, cough. Some patients might require oxygen for instance. And we have seen Mental Health impact. Anxiety, desperation, sleeve disturbances. Also interesting, hair loss. This is just a summary, a description of what we learned about postacute covid19. And brianna, we just passed the oneyear anniversary of this pandemic being declared. And were still learning more about the disease. Were still learning more about the longterm symptoms and complications. In study i imagine is kind of the first of several others we might see coming up in the coming weeks and months as we learn more about what postacute covid19 really leads to in patients. Brianna. Yeah, a third a third. That is a lot. Millions of people. Thank you. Thank you for that jacqueline. Travel is right now at levels not seen since before the pandemic. In miami the city is extending its emergency 8 00 p. M. Curfew and its closing major roadways as huge crowds flood for spring break. Miami police are taking aggressive measures. Firing pepper balls to maskless partiers. Arrests a dozen people late saturday. The mayor of miami beach telling cnn the Emergency Curfew could be in place for several weeks. Very few places are open right now. So we are getting a surge of people, cheap air fare, Discount Rooms are not helping. And the result is that there is too many people and too many of the people coming feel like its time to act out in ways that are just not consistent with appropriate conduct. In columbia, south carolina, hundreds of College Students packed the Downtown Area for an annual st. Patricks day celebration. The citys fire chief attempted to enforce the mask mandate but didnt have much luck. Personally, ive been vaccinated and get tests. I know a lot of usc students get tests. But there is no way to know. Does it make you nervous a lot of people are in that space without masks on. It makes you very nervous, because we are right on the edge of getting in covid19 under control. Joining me now is dr. Raj, associate professor of medicine at nyu long horn health. How concerned are you at the pickets of maskless spring break crowds . Could this lead to a surge. It definitely could, brianna. And what i heard made sense. We are on the cusp of finally getting control of the terrible virus. Weve been told by may 1st anyone who can get a vaccine will be eligible or will be able to get it. Were only talking a couple more months where we need to to be extremery careful. This is not the time to let down our guard. And to understand that so many people are absolutely fed up with these precautions and wearing the mask, but this is the time to continue, because we can very possibly see another surge, you know, in many parts of the country. We are not seeing decline. We are seeing play two. Two reasons, one is the variants in the different parts of the country. And number few is a loosening of the restrictions and opening up, meaning more people could potentially get infected. Its concerning. And again, im sort of imploring people to really hold on for this final stretch. Because there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. We will get back to more of a normal routine and life but we do need to be careful for a little bit longer. I want to talk to you as well about the astrazenica vaccine. And there is a major concern about it or that it was about the astrazenica vaccine was a potential for blood clots. It actually trying reported a pause of the vaccine in many European Countries. The Trial Results here in the u. S. Say that its safe. Thats what were hearing from officials here. How do you reconcile that researchers in europe, in some countries there, wondering if it actually triggered specifically an autoimmune response that might have particularly affected women more than men under 55 as opposed to older folks. How do you reconcile people who are going to say, okay, thats berate that this trial result in the u. S. Says good things, but what about what we heard coming from europe . Well, you know, even in europe this week, you know, the sort of most serious highest regulate they are terms of health in europe did say they believed it was safe and should continue in many countries have reinstated the astrazenica vaccine. But tharp people expressing concern. When you deal with a vaccine, especially new vaccine you really arent going to know all the potential side effects until its rolled out and millions of people receive it. This is something we are going to have to kin watching. In the u. S. It may be a case we dont actually use the astrazenica vaccine at all or very much just because of timing. It looks like were going to have enough doses of the other vaccines. But in terms of giving comfort to the rest of the world that is going to use it i think the u. S. Trial gives a lot of reassurance. Is it a hundred . Do we know all answers today . We dont. But you always have to in anything in medicine you weigh risks and benefits. The benefit of having some vaccine is pbl going to outwayo weigh the risk of a potential issue that a large study today in the u. S. Was reported not to be there. This is obvious lay vaccine that can be stored in the refrigerator. At that temperature for six months. Thats a big difference nan say the pfizer and moderna vaccines. Is there a way to be sure that even when there are Health Issues that some people who have had the vaccine have had, is there a way to definitely at least over time say, that was something that, yes, it happened but wit wasnt because of the vaccine or perhaps it was. How do researchers separate that out. Great question. Its up to statistics and numbers. And when you take a population and see certain bad events you calculate given what we know about how often blood clots occur in the age group was this an unusual number or what we expect for anyone even if they didnt get a vaccine . They do modelling to see if its something significantly different or not . Thus far both in europe and in the u. S. They did not see anything significantly different even though we heard about, you know, relatively young people getting blood clots and what sounded obviously upsetting, according to the science right now its not been proven to be caused by the vaccine. Whether that changes in the future, you know, its i cant say 100 its not going to change. But at least the data we have right now looks like it is safe. I think its so important to look into this and weigh people with information as they might have concerns. Thank you so much. Really appreciate it, dr. Raj. Great to see you. Great to see you. Next, ill speak to a moon who was inside one of the spas targeted in the deadly shooting rampage near atlanta. He believes his Massage Therapist saved his life. Like an Echo In The Forest [singing in korean] another day will return [singing in korean] like nothing ever happened the Shooting Spree across the atlanta area last weak that killed 8 people including six women of asian descent could be the first test for the Hate Crime Law Passed In Georgia Last year. Cnns evan perez is covering this. Race and gender here are both categories for what constitutes a hate crime what is the hold up for prosecutors. This is something they are working on at this time. There are eight murder charges he is facing at this point. The suspect in this horrific shootings. But as you pointed out, this is a new law that Georgia Legislatures put on the books last year. And this would be the first use of that. Whats interesting, as you pointed out, the fact that race and gender are specifically mentioned in the georgia law and people there, the prosecutors believe that they have the wherewithal to use that in this case in contrast to the way the Justice Department seems to be approaching it at this point. Theyre not ruling anything out. But there has been balking at the idea of bringing a federal Hate Crime Charge or opening a civil rights investigation in this case so far. And thats partly because of the way the federal law works, where essentially you have to say but for these factors this crime would not have occurred. In this case, what the suspect has said, brianna, is that this was not racially motivated at this point. He says he was motivated by sexual addiction. This is an investigation still ongoing. We may yet see federal charges in this case. But we should note, hes got eight Murder Counts in georgia which could bring the Death Penalty and the Hate Crime Statutes really only add an enhancement. If youre already lets say he is found guilty, he admitted to these according to the police, then, you know, the hate crime is just an additional thing to describe these crimes. All right. Now evan thank you for taking us through that. Eight people died. The shooter killed eight people in these spa shootings. Six of them are of asian descent. And protesters across the country are taking to the streets, calling for an end to discrimination and violence against asian americans. Marcus lion is a survivor of the deadly Shooting Spree. He was inside one of the spas where eight people were killed. Im so sorry for what youve gone through. How are you doing. Doing okay. I think about it every day. Definitely still think about it in the morning time. I hear the gunshots sometimes in my head. I replay events in my head over and over, you know, its just, you know, for now i feel like im okay. Everybody thinks i should seek counseling or Something Like that. But as of right now i kind of feel okay. But i really dont know what to even say to be honest with you about that. I feel like im okay. You feel like youre okay, but things are replaying for you. Things are staying in your mind, right. So youre sort of reexperiencing things day to day. Yes. Can you tell us a little bit about, you know, what it is to you . You said the gunshot. Tell us about that day. Tell us what happened. Well, you know, i wasnt even there, not even like two minutes, you know, as soon as i came in, the girls greeted me, telling me to come in the room. You know i laid down, i guess like a minute later the woman came back inside. Started rubbing on my noek gave me two rubs on my neck. And heard the gunshot go off. We stood up and looked around. And heard that other gunshot. She was by the door. Thats when i jumped behind the bed. Once she opened up that door i heard the third gushed and she actually dropped. Im sure she got shot in her head right and i wasnt no longer than two feet away from her. I see blood coming out of her head. I constantly heard more gunshots offer that, you know, and from there, you know, i heard a ringing bell on the door. Im guessing the suspect ran out the spa. And then, you know, from there thats when i kind of felt safe to get up. I heard some commotion, talking. Once i heard that. I got up ran back outside to grab my firearm. And ran back inside, you know, the people telling me to call the police, call the police and stuff, you know. And i proceeded to go ahead and call the police. You you had a weapon in your car. But you didnt think. Yes. Youd obviously need it inside of a spa. And i ive heard that you you feel that your masseuse ultimately saved your life. Yeah with, because i feel like if she wouldnt have been right there in front of the door, i feel like he probably would have just came inside there or he would have just marcus, i think did you mute did you mute us, marcus . I think were having a problem with our connection with marcus. Were going to try to reestablish that and see if we can get him back. We have obviously a number of things that we want to ask marcus about. Cnn is going to be taking an indepth look at the disturbing he trend of violence against people of color tonight. The white house advisers are expected to spend a sorry 3 trillion jobs and infrastructure proposal according to people familiar with the plan. Jeff zeleny is with us now. This has not been presented to the president yet, jeff. But whats in it . Brianna, its not yet presented to the president , but we are told it could be presented to President Biden as early as this week. As you said, a 3 trillion plan. Broadly focusing on infrastructure but including a couple of components. Our Phil Mattingly reports its likely to be broken down into two parts. One is infrastructure and clean energy. The other would be devised as sort of a catchall, a care economy, involving a child care, involving education. Those are the this is the next big legislative item for President Biden. This is certainly weeks and months away from passage. This is the beginning of the next round of conversation for his agenda item. But interesting, 3 trillion price tag. By combining a variety of these things it certainly raises the question, if the white house is looking for bipartisan support or will even have the potential of getting bipartisan support when they combine infrastructure, which is fixing the nations roads and airports, which, you know, certainly are in need of repair, but combining that with clean energy, some scaled back version of the Green New Deal if you will, certainly makes it difficult for some republicans to swallow. This is the beginning phases. The next 5igd item for the biden white house, were told it will be presented to the white house end of the week and also told that its likely you know, get going on capitol pl. The bhous is certainly playing a role in this. Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer and house speak nancy pelosi and various committees are going to be reining and shepherds the next several months or so. So probably looking at the end of summer for passage of this. But certainly the next agenda item. Brianna, it has also the effect of changing the subject in the shortterm from the Immigration Crisis the white house is now dealing with. Brianna. Yes, they are not calling it a crisis. They are calling it a challenge. We heard that from the vicepresident a short time ago as well. Jeff zeleny thank you. Next ill speak to an Immigration Attorney about the crisis at the border. The White House Press secretary says they will discuss ways to stem the tide of immigrants flocking to the southern border. I will also note that there is also part part of the trip declaration as our new Special Envoy for the northern triangle who im certain will be playing a prominent role in leading efforts and negotiations moving forward, obviously addressing issues like corruption, violence in the region and in these countries is something that is often raised with the government. We need to work and partnership with the countries to address the root causes in their countries, convey clearly and systematically this is not the time to travel. The arrival of thousands of Unaccompanied Minors has overwhelmed border control. Border patrol. These photos released by democratic congresswoman Henry Cuellars office show us the conditions in one facility over dona texas. Shaun drake is a staff attorney ono and Policy Counsel at the aclu of texas. Can you describe, shaw, what this is, how bad this is, and if you see this as a crisis that were witnessing . Absolutely. Thank you so much for having me on. And good afternoon. I think the most important thing to remember is first and foremost what population were talking about here. We are talking about people fleeing for their lives, fleeing persecution from their home country, as you heard the press secretary say, addressing root causes and preventing the reasons why people have to flee are important. But right now were dealing with people arriving at the border fleeing for their lives, and particularly unaccompanied children. And so what the government has to be doing is processing those people at the border in a humane way and a way that respects the laws passed by congress to provide appropriate due process and access to the Asylum System in the u. S. Are they doing that . They are to some extent. The Biden Administration has taken an important step in changing the Trump Administrations expulsion policy of unaccompanied children. Under the Trump Administration we saw officials summarily expel unaccompanied children back to mexico and their countries to immediate and ongoing as danger. The Biden Administration has appropriately backed off that policy and is not unlawfully expelling children at this time. However, they continue to keep in place that same unlawful expulsion policy when it comes to families and single adults. And so they are taking important steps to respect the rights of children. But not fully rolling back unlawful policies under the Trump Administration that continues to harm thousands of people. Children are only theyre only supposed to be held a certain amount of time. Right . We know on average theyre being held longer than that because there are so many of them. And theyre not immediately available, the facilities that are needed, to get them where they need to go in a timely enough manner to meet that threshold, that amount of time. What about that . Because that is that is a mark that is supposed to be hit. And its running longer right now. Absolutely. We have reports that children are remaining days upwards of ten days i believe the reported average is 130 hours in Border Patrol custody. And we have deep concerns about that. The cbp customs and Border Protection responsible for the facilities have a long history of Holding Children in inhumane conditions, even abusing children in their custody. And so we have great concerns about the amount of time children are spending in the facilities and type of conditions that theyre facing. And the bottom line is the federal government has ample resources, customs and Border Protection alone has a budget upwards of 17 billion at its disposal. They should be moving rapidly and quickly to find alternatives to humanely house and process children that do not leave them lange wishing in Border Patrol facilities for as long as they currently are. Why do you think they havent been able to do that at this point . I mean look, it sounds like the administration doesnt want they dont want to call it a crisis. Its very clear just to look and see that it is a krissis. They also are facing look, they have different policies. I know some americans are going to agree with their policies and some are going to disagree with their policies. The same you would say about the Trump Administration. But these policies are different. That may also be something that is affecting this. The surge and the factors coming from the home countries of migrants is something that could be affecting this. But knowing all of that, why do you think the administration has not been able to be prepared, have all of these things in place to meet the demands of this moment and stay within the law when it comes to how long they have kids in custody . I dont know that i have a a satisfactory answer for why the administration hasnt moved for quickly. These types of increases in numbers crossing are cyclical. They occurred under the Trump Administration. They occurred under past administrations. As you laid out, it is very complicated set of reasons why they occur or you know what drives them. But the fact of the matter is is that the government has known that these surges are are likely in certain periods. And they have not. And they did not briar to this take the steps necessary to put the pieces in place to ensure that children arent facing these types of conditions under Border Patrol custody. Now, the Biden Administration is taking important steps, Inserting Fema Resources and looking for creative and new alternatives to moving kids to better facilities more quickly. We welcome that. But the fact of the matter is that this was a known reality that was likely to occur. And the pieces should have been in place ahead of time to address it. Shaw drake, thank you so much for joining us from el paso. Thank you. President trump maid be on the hook criminally for the insurrection according to michael sherwin, the former top prosecutor on the january 6th insurrection cases. Sherwin spoke with cbs news last night. Its unequivocal that trump was the magnet that brought the people to d. C. On the 6th. Now the question is is he criminally culpable for everything that happened during the siege, during the breach . We have soccer moms from ohio arrested saying, well i did this because my president said i had to take back our house. That moves the need willing that direction. Maybe the president is culpable for action. But also you see in the public record, the Militia Members saying we did this because trump talks a big game. He is just all talk. In short you have investigators looking into the president s role. We have people looking at everything. Trump denies any responsibility for the insurrection. Joining me now to discuss this is former u. S. Attorney and former Deputy Assistant attorney general harry litman. Great to see you again. Harry. Likewise. There is no question, a formal Criminal Investigation has been opened against trump. Do you think, though, he eventually could be charged . Well, i think the charging might be a long shot. It will depend on what the facts and evidence show and the law shows. Sherwin says its unequivocal he was the force that drew them to d. C. I think that is unequivocal. But the bigger question will be did he intend for all that happened in the melee to occur. That will be his card in his defense. No doubt they have to investigate. You cant just go after the 400 or 2000 and leave alone the possibility that he, gulini, trump juniors bears some criminal culpability. They might and we knew from the start any Thoreau Doj Investigation would look into that possibility. He also mentioned the charges on the table right now for the rioters could get more serious as the investigation unfolds. They could be charged with sedition. How hard a charge would that be to prove. Sounds hard. Historically it has been hard. Though it was done with the blind sheik in the mid90s. But if you break it down to the elements from the judge, the agreement to by force, easy, impede or hinder, easy, the execution of a law of the United States, here congresss statutory responsibility to certify the election, it fits the elements here inway what we have seen on of ito pretty well. I dont see sherwin saying it unless he had good reason to think its happening. Im betting it happens and in pretty short order against a few of the higher ups. Well be watching. Harry, great to see you. Thank you. Thank you. Next, former President Trump is trying to get revenge on georgias Secretary Of State who refused to help him overturn the Election Results in that state. Trump is now endorsing brad r raffenspergers primary opponents. Plus the Florida Governor held a fundraiserer this weekend despite part of the resort being closed due to coronavirus outbreak. But does this look like a side dish to you . Or this . Or these . Does a side dish have a dog like this . Or a truck like this . Or a goodlooking, charismatic, spokesfarmer like me . I think we both know the answer to that. Always look for the Grown In Idaho seal. Side dish . Theres a world where every one of us is connected. Everyone. Everywhere. Where everyone is included. Where everyone has access to information, education, opportunity. When everyone and everything is connected. Thats really beautiful. Anything is possible. Good morning. Cisco. The bridge to possible. Former President Trump is throwing his weight behind republican Congressman Jody Heist to be the next Secretary Of State. The same man trump tried to pressure on a phone call he suggested raffensperger, quote, find him votes. Mel brooks is expected to announce tonight whether he will run for senate. He may have tipped his hand when he told cnn he has already consulted with trump about the decision. The former president speaking about his primary power on the radio this morning. Im giving endorsements and im endorsing people that have been good for us and good for the republican party. And that have voted our way. And if theyve said something a little bit off color with respect to me, i mean, i can handle that, if they voted our way. So, im endorsing some people that i think have been very good. And theyre all going to win and theyre going to win big. Cnn political commentator s. E. S. E. Cupp is here with us now. Is this what pry mraer season is going to look like and is there any possibility that that means that what would normally be safe republican seats will be endangered or do you see this meaning were going to end up with more Marjorie Taylor g greenes in congress . I think thats in a lot of ways up to donald trump and how influential he wants to be and how influential he still is. And believe me, you know me, theres no one on the planet who wants to be past trump more than i do. But were not there yet. Weve seen over the past couple of months the influence of people like Marjorie Taylor greene grow and people like liz cheney, these sort of sidelined and marginalized. Well have to see how that shakes out. Were not past trump yet. And i think its whether his weighing in on these primaries or sort of crawl back onto social media or do whatever kind of pacs hes going to start, all of that is going to be, i think, important to watch. Aside from him trying to be a kingmaker or being on the money side of things here, theres also about how is he going to influence the message . Because he confirmed today that hes planning to return to social media here in the next few months. But this time with a platform of his own. What do you think that would look like . Do you think thats something that could be sustainable, successful . I mean, thats also a lot of responsibility and maneuvering, not just to use a platform like twitter but to have his own. Yeah, i have no doubt that other people will be, you know, running it and working with him on it, even if hes just sort of voicing tweets into the ecosystem and someone else is really running it, because youre right, it is a lot. You cant just go and start a platform and hope people come to it. However, that said, trump is still, like i said, very influential in the party. And people, when we talk about trump or focus on trump, like to say, well, we must really miss him, we cant quit him, were addicted to the ratings. Its not that. I dont care what trump does personally with the twilight of his life. I do care about his voters, where they go, what they do. And thats for very practical reasons. We saw what trump voters did during a global pandemic. They were, in many cases, antimafshg, antiscience. That affects when your kids school opens, that affects when my Family Members get sick. We saw what they did on january 6th, storming the capitol, trying to undo a free and fair election. That matters every time you go to the voting booth. We should be talking about where trump is going and what hes doing, how successful that will be, because it matters for his voters. Theyre still you know, theyre still not insignificant number of people when it comes to the ballot box, what they think, what they believe in, and how they vote affects us all. I agree with you on that. The power that brought him into office and also the power he bolstered and unleashed is still there. Its very much a force in what were seeing play out even today. Yeah. I also want to ask you while i have you about something else. Did you see this on friday at maralago, which, of course, is trumps resort and a place lots of republicans go for fundraisers, it was partially shut down because there was a co covid outbreak among staff. And the governor still went ahead and held a fundraiser there saturday night. What do you think about that . Yeah, you know, is that the height of irony . Yes. But i dont i take zero pleasure any time covid is affecting americans. I dont care if theyre americans i agree with, i disagree, americans in position of power, American Workers that is at some rich guys private club. Its awful. I think thats why we all should still really focus on the science and not demogogging and politicizing all of this. S. E. Cupp, appreciate you being with us.
