This time. It is going to take time before we see Emergency Authorization come through, at least another week or couple weeks. Beyond that, you still need to have distribution of the vaccine. I think given that we already have 1such a large supply of th mo moderna and Johnson Johnson vaccine, they have been trained to distribute those. I think its highly unlikely the astrazeneca will be a major player in the United States. It further complicates the Distribution Process . It maybe speaks to the success of the Vaccine Rampup in the u. S. By the time astrazeneca will be available, there will be many more vaccines on the market. One other finding in this large, very large study was no serious side effects, including no sign of that Blood Clotting that they had been concerned about in europe so what does that tell us . Right. I think thats whats really most important about this trial here in the United States is that we do have large supplies of this vaccine and are in a position to be sending it as we are to other countries like canada, like mexico and elsewhere. And so i think its really important that we still vetted the vaccine thoroughly as we would for our own citizens. So this is not seen as an Inferior Product that we are sending around the world, but it is seen as truly equivalent to what we are using on our own citizens. So, lets talk about where we are in this foot race between vaccine and variants. More than 2 million doses of vaccine are being given now on average every day. And the average of if you cases per day in the country is 54,000. So, the vaccines are outpacing the variants at the moment. Is there any reason that you believe we still will see a fourth surge in this country . Were still waiting to see if that might happen. Certainly, if you look at whats happened in other countries where the uk variant, in particular, first emerged in the uk. They had to lock down over the holidays. Now, they were not as far along with their vaccination as we are now. The same variant has spread elsewhere in europe and france and in italy, theyre also having to reinstitute very strict measures right now, and in general throughout this pandemic, the u. S. Has trended three, four weeks behind italy in terms of our transmission, our surges. So we still really have to wait and see, will we have a surge of our own now . Well, i will tell you, theyre not waiting and seeing in miami beach. Right. Weve seen the pictures from miami beach and you can see the streets filled with people there. And my main concern again isnt necessarily with people outside dancing on cars is where they go after inside, to some places. So given that this is happening, and it is, its undeniable its happening and will probably happen in other place, how do you handle as a Public Health official. What do you do now . John, i think just like it has been from the beginning of the pandemic, its really been about communications, you know, letting people know why it is reneed to be a little bit more patient. You know, we really do need to give ourselves time to get more people vaccinated. Were not quite where we would like to be. So to be jumping the gun and trying to return to normal life while you have these more infectious, more deadly variants spreading and before have you enough people vaccinated, that does put us in a very difficult and dangerous position. Let me play for you what dr. Scott, the former fda commissioner said, its different i think than what your position is. So let me tell you what he said yesterday. I think the fact that we have so much prior infection. 120 million americans have been infected with this virus, the fact that we have vaccinated and gotten one shot in 57 million americans even if you account 30,000 previously had covid, were talking about protective immunity in 55 of the population. There is enough of a backstop here i dont think you will see a fourth surge. How about that, where do you think he might not be right . Yeah. I think the part about the Natural Immunity prior infection. You know, what were seeing in other countries, where youve had new variants emerge, for example, brazil, if you look at the one city where 75 of the population was infected by october. Put that in context. In the u. S. We think maybe 20 of the population has been infected. 75 of the population was infected and yet because of the variant, they still saw a massive surge. The hospitals were overrun. Theyve run out of oxygen. Theyve had to build vertical graves in their cemeteries, the bodies were piling up to that degree. I think we have to be very careful on banking on immunity for prior infection here. The other thing, we may stall out. Hes not precluding the possibility that we stall out where we are for a while. So, whats the implication there . If we stall out at 50,000plus cases a day, stall out at 40,000 hospitalizations a day, what does that mean . Well, the real danger is if you had that kind of transmission ongoing is that you may have additional buttations occur and when you have mutations occur, the virus can become more infectious or can spread more easily from persontoperson. Thats what we saw in the uk variant. It can also become more deadly, which is what we saw in the uk variant. It can invade our immune response, whether thats from the infection or the vaccine. Were seek with the south africa and brazil variant is they are evading the natural immune response, for now the vaccines still work. We dont want to give the virus is opportunity to mutate to where it can evade our vaccines. Then we would really be in a bad position. We have a few second left. Are our pharmaceutical Companies Working on boosters right now for all of these different variants . They are. They are at least for the variants that we currently know about. Again, you dont want to create a moving target by allowing the virus to continue mutating. Doctor, thank you very much, great information. We really appreciate it. All right, developing this morning, axios just published these new images inside a crowded temporary u. S. Border patrol tent in texas. The democratic congressman provided these images to axios. He did not actually visit the facility. It comes as the Biden Administration is undergoing pressure to contain the surge at the border. John harwood joins us. First of all, the reason were showing these picture is we dont having a says to these facilities. You notice, so when were seeing these people in pretty tight corners, pretty tight corners, you know, separated by plastic there. This is the first real sense we are getting. Because there is not the transparency i think a lot of people want here. Exactly. You can see from these pictures why the Biden Administration does not want transparency in this situation, because its really bad. These kids are in conditions that nobody would want their children to be in. Obviously, the cause of the migration is that conditions are bad in their home countries. They think they can get a better life in the United States. Many of these children already have Family Members in the United States. So its not that the Biden Administration caused this problem. Although, if you advertised the fact that you are going to have a humane, more humane policy than your predecessor, you are naturally going to be more, the boarder is going to be more of a magnet than it was before. But it is now incumbent on the Biden Administration to figure out some solution to this. It is also incumbent on them to be more transparent and let the American People see whats going on as we see in these pictures. To your point, john, Victorino Mayorkas told dana on State Of The Union yesterday, while our southern boarder is closed to our migrants. Im not sure that message is getting out to desperate families sending their minors here alone. That is not effective that message. Reporter its definitely not effective. Again the reason is especially now that the United States economy is bouncing back, its more attractive to people. They think they can improve their conditions by getting to the United States. Thats been quite true for some time. We seen ebbs and flows and during the Biden Administration, the Trump Administration and at the outset of the Biden Administration, were seeing another surge. You can expect that pressure to continue as the United States recovers from this pandemic, so that the substantive reason for it. Politically, its a big problem for the Biden Administration, whats the story of the biden going to be . Is it going to be on top of getting the pandemic, covid relief passed the economy going again or this problem, which republicans are much more eager to talk about. Immigration is a difficult and twice divisive issue for democrats. There is pressure on the Biden Administration to get more rapid solution to this problem than they have been able to so far. Last night, overnight, we heard from the federal prosecutor who had been leading the investigation into the capitol insurrection and we heard i think in the most stark terms, where he sees as the evidence against some of the people involved here and what charges he expects. Lets listen. I personally believe the evidence is trending towards that and probably makes those elements. Do you anticipate Sedition Charges against some of these subjects . I believe the facts do support those charges and i think that as we go forward, more facts will support that, scott. Sedition, the evidence points to sedition, those are serious charges. I am struck by the gravity of this investigation and the fact that we are not and republicans and former President Trump is not simply going to turn the page and say that was january, thats over. The Justice Department is taking this with the utmost seriousness. We got a lot of people charged. Those charges are going to be explosive when theyre made and President Trump, former President Trump, himself, has legal vulnerability there. Not to mention the legal vulnerability he has in georgia over the potential interference of the election tabulation, in new york with the investigation with sy vance the manhattan district attorney. This story is not going away. Theyre using a lot of resources to identifying the people involved and their motivations. Here is what Michael Sherwin said about President Trumps role on january 6th. Its unequivocal that trump was the magnet that brought the people to d. C. On the 6th. Now the question ask, is he criminally culpable for everything that happened during the siege, during the breach . And its interesting, john, one of the ways he said lat night at least theyre figure out if he is criminally culpable is what the testimony of the 400 people, the insurrectionistsing who they arrested are saying and he said that many are saying we were here at the behest of President Trump. We were serving our president. Were invited by him. Thats what we were doing. Some are saying, no, we felt he was too soft to get the job done and we felt we had to come to stop the vote. Its interesting to hear how they are gathering that evidence. Right. You know, its, there is no question that as the prosecutor said, President Trump was the magnet. Weve heard from the likes of liz cheney in the house, Mitch Mcconnell in the senate saying the president ignited this issue. I dont know what the elements of a crime legally are in that circumstance whether President Trump can say, that not what i meant. I didnt intend for them to do what they ended up doing. Certainly, the testimony of those people from their perception of why they were there and also as the investigators come up with any private communications, any direction from trump or people close to trump, you know, there has been a lot of attention on roger stone and the fact that there were people associate with the proud boys who have been providing him security f. Those links can be established, the potential legal danger for former President Trump gets deeper. John harwood. Thank you very much. So president bind and Vice President horizon both condemning antiasian hate. How could they back up their talk with action . Thats next. announcer carvanas had a lot of firsts. 100 online car buying. Too many asianamericans have been walking up and down the streets and worrying, waking up each morning, the past year feeling their safety and the safety of their loved ones are at stake. They have been attacked, blamed, scapegoated and harassed. Racism is real in america and it has always been. Xenophobia is real in america and always has been. Sexism, too. President biden and Vice President horizon condemg antiasian hate in the wake of last weeks Area Shootings at area spas. Six of the victims were asian women. Joining me is the cofounder of the Stop Aapi Hate and she spoke at a rally in San Francisco over the weekend. Thanks so much for being with us. What is it like to hear the president and the Vice President of the United States speaking out specifically against antiasian hate . Well, its so important that our nations leader just acknowledge the pain and suffering of our community at this time to have President Biden and Vice President horizon acknowledge this moment and i want to commend both of them for reaching out to the asianamerican community at this time. Youve said that you have never experienced a moment like this when there has been so much focus on the plight, frankly, of asianamericans and directed your way over the years. I guess my question is, whats taken so long . Youre right. This isnt new to our community and its a period of awakens for america thats been our lived experience and we really started Stopping Aapi hate because of the surge of racism as covid was racialized. Part of it is documenting it. Asianamericans across the country speaking out and, of course, the tragedy of the eight lives that were lost and you know a majority of them being asianamerican women, you know, this is a moment that there is no denial that race and gender are factors in this tragedy. So you have this awakening. What do you need to have come out of it . What concrete measures need to take place . Well, i think its important to lift up the fact that we have to have a whole of society response. And that includes our government, id like to start off with our next, that there sa role that they can play in resourcing too Many Organizations that have been tra dibblely First Responders to antiasian racism, violence and this is the work that needs to be supported across the country. You are aware right now there is this discussion debate about whether the murderers of these six asian women in these alleged area spas qualify for hate crimes. And maybe this debate obscures i think what is probably the more important realization that eight asian women are dead and we need to find out why that happened and mourn their loss. But you do say there are issues with reporting. The reporting of crimes, in general. What do you mean . Well, historically, the asian community, Immigrant Community have not recorded to Government Entities or Law Enforcement for a variety of reasons. There has been distrust, especially over the last four years and a feeling that what can be done about it and i think knowing what their rights are and that its important to report fought just hate crimes but hate incidents, which we all took very seriously. Cynthia, we are very glad you are with us. As we said, this isnt an awakening. We hope our leaders are. Thank you. Tonight cnn we should note is doing a special on the hate and the feelings that so Many Americans are feeling right now in this time. Thats i believe at 9 00 eastern. Reporter im alexandre field, The State Of Massachusetts is taking its next steps towards reopening, raising events at places and public spaces. The city of boston says it will move to make a more moderate increase for now. Mayor marty walsh says the meet asking meet the state at that higher threshold, once they are able to hold a Positivity Rate at or below 2. 7 for two consecutive weeks. For the first time in over a year, all of new york city Public Schools will be offering inperson learning for k through 12 students starting today, nearly 500 high schools are welcoming back 55,000 students. Thats a traction of the citys 326,000 High School Students prior to the pandemic. The majority of families continuing to opt for Remote Learning. High School Students will be subjected to the same Safety Measures as elementary and middle School Students, randomized, weekly testing, masking and social distancing. According to City Officials the coronavirus Positivity Rate since october is. 57 , indicating minimal spread in classrooms. So this morning, new coronavirus cases in huge are spiking. They lead new case, yet the governor there is relaxing more restriction, joining us is that governor, governor murphy of new jersey. Explain how this works. You now lead the nation in terms of new cases. Yet you are relaxing in56 thes or capacity at games and restaurants, so why now . Good to be with you, allison, first of all, we have beened a incremental in terms of reopening i think as any state in america. We want to do this safely, responsibly. We done want to go back. Indeed, we have opened up Indushanbe Capacitys to 50 and were watching these variants very closely. The case numbers are clearly up. We clearly have these variants in our state as we see in new york city a. Little reminiscent of what happened last spring were the densest state and region in the nation. We will continue to monitor and continue to be very incremental in any steps that we take. I mean, since have you doubled the National Average right now of new case, why not hold off for a week or two . Well, i think what you will see Going Forward is we will do that, we are already up to 3. 5 million vaccine shots in peoples arms. That is that news that story is only going to get better. The weather will get warmer. Well be able to be outdoors more than undoors. God willing, people will continue to do the right smart things. My guess is we wont be opening capacity for some time now because of the case load. You have said about schools. You want them to reopen for inperson learning right now. I think that new jersey students have been on Remote Learning for a year now. Almost maybe even a little longer than a year now. So whats the holdup to getting them back in the classroom . Yes, so we run the schools in new jersey are run based on districts. We have over 800 districts or charter or other schools we have still a chip for. I think 95 of those districts have inperson learning, hybrid or all in person in terms of the percentage of kids, its probably 70 or 75 . We want the indoor capacities of anything. We want to do it responsibly, safely. We want kids back in school, no question about it. We want to do it responsibly. Were getting there. The needle is moving in the right direction. My hope is we get from 70to75 of our kids fully in person up to 85 or more before the end of the school year and we are all 100 inperson in the fall. You have suggested the people who are vaccinated in new jersey could begin carrying around some sort of vaccine card that allows them to having a says to, you know, certain businesses or flights than people who are not vaccinated wouldnt have. And so, some of your republican governor, clear, dont like that idea. Theyve said, governor phil murphys suggestion that Garden Staters can be required to show proof of vaccine is a health mindfield. Hardworking new jersey residents have the right to keep their Healthcare Decisions between themself and their doctor and dont need phil murphy in The Waiting Room telling people to laminate their vaccine card on the way out. What do you think of their position . I dont think much of their position because thats all politics. But having said that i was asked would i be open minded to Something Like this . I said i would be. I also said explicitly, i would defer to the cdc to give guidance on this do i think its a crazy idea . No. Im certainly not going to be Playing Politics with it. Well do the right thing as we have been all along, we will take guidance from the cdc and adhere closely to their guidances as we can. Governor, i want to ask you about the situation with governor andrew cuomo. I know you have worked so closely with him during this past year on the pandemic and as you know, there have been several female staffers or former female staffers who have come forward and made allegations of Sexual Harassment or some sort of behavioral misconduct. I know there is an investigation. Its just beginning. That could take a while. Do you think because this has become a distraction that Governor Cuomo should step aside . Yeah. This is concerning to say the least that its gotten, if anything, more concerning over the past several weeks and you just have to give it an enormous amount of credit to these women who are coming forward. It is not easy and they deceive to be heard. Having said that, i have been and i continue to be in the same place, an expedited objective, complete investigation. Lets see what that conclude and from that conclusion actions should or should not be taken. That continues to be where i am on this. If the investigation reveals as it very well might, that, yes, Governor Cuomo did say these things. Some of them, hes not even denying saying, but he says that he thought he was being Quote Playful and teasing. He didnt think it was inappropriate. But if it reveals yes, he did say these things and the women were uncomfortable, then should he step down . Again, im where im a. I give enormous respect for these women the courage to come forward. Its not easy. They deserve to be heard and, secondly, lets let the investigation play out and with it conclusion, we go from there. Governor phil murphy, we really appreciate you covering all of this with us. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Up next, new reporting on what the British Royal family may do in the wake of the Racism Allegations made by prince harry and meghan markle. We have a live report from the uk next. If you smell gas, youre too close. Leave the structure, call 911, keep people away, and call pg e right after so we can both respond out and keep the public safe. If you see wires down, treat them all as if theyre hot and energized. Stay away from any downed wire, call 911, and call pg e right after so we can both respond out and keep the public safe. Were learning this morning the British Royal family may appoint a Diversity Chief against the damming statements made by meghan and harry. This is interesting. Reporter i think its the substantive response we had since we had the claims aimed at the British Monarchy. What the monarchy is saying here is they do take diversity very seriously. They had systems in place as well prior to this interview. Heres what we heard from a royal source. We had the policies, procedures and programs in placements we havent seen in terms of representation. More needs to be done. We can always improve. You got two things really the duchess was talking about this interview, the family, itself, we can talk about diversity there. The working part of the British Monarchy is no longer there, frankly, because the duchess opted out of that. She was the only representative really of diversity within the working monarchy. We are talking about the aides and the staff and the system, itself, frankly, there isnt much diversity there either. They are working towards that. One of the things they are talking about is hiring someone responsible for diversity within the monarchy. You might say, you might be surprised they didnt have someone doing that previously. As our sources were saying, they are listening. They are learning, there is a response, in part to the interview, i think. They are also being propelled towards this Diversity Program because of that interview as well. Meghan was quite specific act her accusation of racism. Its made people think of what the monarchy represents not just the family but the palace system. Its interesting to hear they have improvement and are beening to take those steps. Thank you for that reporting. So a College Basketball player is speaking out after getting Death Threats for missing a freethrow. He tells us his story next. I hope you die, i really do. Joining us now is e. J. Ledelle. Thanks so much for joining us. My first reaction when i first read that is what the hell. What do you think when you first read that . It kind of hurt my feelings are little bit after a loss we suffered. The messages were sent directly to me. It kind of messed me up a little bit. How are things now . Have they calmed down over the last few days . What are you hearing now . I just want to thank everybody that supports us. Everybody has been telling us, what a great season weve had and i felt like thats what most players need to hear at the end of the season because there is not much we can do about it after a loss. Everybody can take perspective criticism. Sometimes its a little bit too far. I mean, whats wrong with people . Have you thought about that . Yeah arc little bit, honestly. Ive never let anybody in my life talk to me like that, especially for a Basketball Game i worked all year for. I dont see how they are hurt with me because i worked countless number of hours to go tote where we were at. By the way, 23 points, 14 boards, thats some game you had, right . Yeah. I thought i could have done a little more. I got us there and i put a lot of effort into that last game. I mean, you are sitting here two a smile on your face. What do people need to know . What should someone who might pick up their phone, which is awfully easy to do and write something down, what do you want them to think about before writing a message like that . Honestly a lot of people on social media done know about me, you have to think about our feelings, sometimes you view us as entertainers or people on the tv. Off the court, i have a mom, a big brother, little sister. They all care for me goodly. I know they dont want me to be talked about like that. And my dad. I just dont like how you get treated sometimes. How badly did you want to win the game, e. J. . Oh, man, very badly, but its a Basketball Game at the end of the day. Things happen. Is it safe to say in your mind you wanted to win more than this jackass who you hope to meet on social media . Our coaching staff, my friends, my family, i just went out there and played my heart hardest every single game and my whole season. Loose, i know how important basketball is to you. But its also, its a game and this guy is making a death threat for a game. Yeah, realistically, at the end of the day, its just a game. Honestly. I go out there, im a college student. I dont get paid anything. I go out there with a smile on my face every day. I was probably like in the second game. Let me tell you, it speaks to how much of a bigger person you are than the people that write this stuff, including this discussion on your face. Speaking object big men, joe buckley weighed in on this situation and had some interesting points to make. Lets listen. For you to give this kid Death Threats and harrow racial slurs at him because you are safe in your home behind a computer, nobody know who you are. Why would you sit at your house and tweet or send something to a kid thats number one after this stupid Basketball Game to give him Death Threats or hurl racial slurs at him. You need to take a good look in the mirror like you just a fioccoing loser. How sit like to hear that from sir charles . Its crazy, charles says something. Because a lot of people go through it. Not just me. I post that tweet and they need to stay on the messages and i just felt it was hard for me to Say Something as people really do some type of way we lose games that we play. Barclay had an interesting point. He doesnt go on social media, one of the point, ill pose it to you as a question do you think the things that people wrote on social media that anyone would ever say that to your face . I dont think so. Social media is a third generation. Realistically, every kid has social media, including me. So i feel like im missing out. I follow sometimes. Its very easy to make that anonymous account. Somebody is paid. I will tell you. I will follow you, because you send a positive message. You are inspiring for the work that you are doing. The effort you put into the game and the effort you put into this exposing something i think miami need to know about. As you said, youre a kid. You got younger siblings who see this stuff. People need to think what theyre doing in the message they send. Thank you, congratulations with the message you are accepting. Congratulations on a wonderful season. I guarantee this is not going to be the last we hear from you. Thank you for having me. Be well. We do have a quick programing note.
