I think its highly unlikely the astrazeneca will be a major player in the United States. It further complicates the Distribution Process . It maybe speaks to the success of the Vaccine Rampup in the u. S. By the time astrazeneca will be available, there will be many more vaccines on the market. One other finding in this large, very large study was no serious side effects, including no sign of that Blood Clotting that they had been concerned about in europe so what does that tell us . Right. I think thats whats really most important about this trial here in the United States is that we do have large supplies of this vaccine and are in a position to be sending it as we are to other countries like canada, like mexico and elsewhere. And so i think its really important that we still vetted the vaccine thoroughly as we would for our own citizens. So this is not seen as an Inferior Product that we are sending around the world, but it is seen as truly equivalent to what we are using on our own citizens. So, lets talk about where we are in this foot race between vaccine and variants. More than 2 million doses of vaccine are being given now on average every day. And the average of if you cases per day in the country is 54,000. So, the vaccines are outpacing the variants at the moment. Is there any reason that you believe we still will see a fourth surge in this country . Were still waiting to see if that might happen. Certainly, if you look at whats happened in other countries where the uk variant, in particular, first emerged in the uk. They had to lock down over the holidays. Now, they were not as far along with their vaccination as we are now. The same variant has spread elsewhere in europe and france and in italy, theyre also having to reinstitute very strict measures right now, and in general throughout this pandemic, the u. S. Has trended three, four weeks behind italy in terms of our transmission, our surges. So we still really have to wait and see, will we have a surge of our own now . Well, i will tell you, theyre not waiting and seeing in miami beach. Right. Weve seen the pictures from miami beach and you can see the streets filled with people there. And my main concern again isnt necessarily with people outside dancing on cars is where they go after inside, to some places. So given that this is happening, and it is, its undeniable its happening and will probably happen in other place, how do you handle as a Public Health official. What do you do now . John, i think just like it has been from the beginning of the pandemic, its really been about communications, you know, letting people know why it is reneed to be a little bit more patient. You know, we really do need to give ourselves time to get more people vaccinated. Were not quite where we would like to be. So to be jumping the gun and trying to return to normal life while you have these more infectious, more deadly variants spreading and before have you enough people vaccinated, that does put us in a very difficult and dangerous position. We want to do it responsibly, safely. We want kids back in school, no question about it. We want to do it responsibly. Were getting there. The needle is moving in the right direction. My hope is we get from 70to75 of our kids fully in person up to 85 or more before the end of the school year and we are all 100 inperson in the fall. This is concerning to say the least that its gotten, if anything, more concerning over the past several weeks and you just have to give it an enormous amount of credit to these women who are coming forward. It is not easy and they deceive to be heard. Having said that, i have been and i continue to be in the same place, an expedited objective, complete investigation. Lets see what that conclude and from that conclusion actions should or should not be taken. That continues to be where i am on this. If the investigation reveals as it very well might, that, yes, Governor Cuomo did say these things.
