This is documented and known inside of the Cuomo Administration. I think some of the calls for vettels that have been coming forward, tisch jamess prospective investigation which will probably get launched this week, those things will be look at closely as well, not only the allegations but how the state responded. That ups the ante for the governor . For sure. The Cuomo Administration attempted over the weekend just as you say to name a attorney of long standing of great reputation who had worked for a long time as a prosecutor and investigators. It was point out that she was affiliated with a firm of one of the governors close allies. That wasnt going to work. The governor then preparesed having the chief judge of the state and the Attorney General joptly pick someone out who was going to do the investigation. Thats not how it works. We have a law that governs the investigation and the chief judge was appointed by andrew cuomo. Now we have a truly independent investigation. The governor will have no control over what the Attorney General does, who she appoints, how wide of a net she intends to cast and what they are going the find out when they start asking questions. I think thats on the mine of everybody in the state capital, how many are going to come forward . And what are we going to hear. You wrote about it. A smart look on how this plays out. You have a threeterm governor whom all assumed would run again next year now facing two allegations of inappropriate behavior and an Office Culture where women say they were afraid to speak up. The allegations come at a difficult time when some of his political adversaries are loudly questioning his political tactics for his handling of the covid19 data. The collision with the covid19 controversy makes it more difficult for the governor. Lets stay on the Sexual Harassment allegations because of how important they are. Two women who worked closely with the governor saying this was the culture, as you say, in his office. And to errols point he tried to manage this and was told by the state democrats, his own party, saying step aside, we are going to do it our way. It was interesting n the response, the tortured response that his office had yesterday you could see the governor as errol said trying to control the process. And you know, his apology was had lots of, you know, ifs and ands in there and sort of equivocations. I think that thats the really troubling pattern that has emerged here. I mean, Governor Cuomo has been known forever in politics for using Bullying Tactics and, you know, and creating an environment where people were sort of scared to stand up to him. And thats what you see kind of playing out in these Sexual Harassment allegations. Lindsay boylan, the other woman who came forward, talked about, you know, this plane ride that she had with the governor where he proposed a game of strip poker. And she talked about how there were other people sitting there who, you know, apparently didnt weigh in. I mean, theres a question here and her other aides deny that this happened by the way. But there was a question of whether there was this permissive culture in his office that allowed him to keep making these comments to young women that were inappropriate and whether he was being called out on it. Also i think we cant overlook the fact that both of these women were afraid to come forward. Charlotte bennett talks about how she was afraid she was going to lose her job if she brought this to the attention of folks in his office. And thats the kind of culture that the me too movement, you know, has tried to root out. And he has lot of questions to answer. And i really dont think that his apology answered those questions yesterday. Right. And the way you smartly raised the culture question there is why the investigation has to have nothing to do with him. It has to be kept separate from him to the dre possible. Governor cuomo, the specificity of these allegations makes them important. Governor cuomo became a national and Global Presence with his daily Covid Briefings a year ago or nine months ago. This is the White House Press secretary now making clear you have the democratic governor the chairman of the National Governors association but the Press Secretary for the new democratic president saying this needs to be looked at, and carefully. President biden has been consistent, that he believes that every woman should be heard, should be treated with respect, and with dignity. Charlotte should be treated with respect and dignity. And alice raise as important point f. There is a trump crowd, it is cpac, its stacked now with people who support him. We watched it emerge over the years. In a cpac straw poll just 68 said they wanted had up to run for president again in 2024. Another 15 said they content want trump to run. What does that tell you . This is going object the question next couple of years, is he disciplined enough, popular enough to hold his sway [ no audio ] im sorry, we lost him. Alice . And i think the important thing to remember, and tolu touched on this, while the president is massively popular with his base in the Republican Party. Focus on the issues, limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual liberties, focus on the policies and do away and steer clear of the permits that may unite them but they are divisive overall.
