I think they have so far been in consid conversations with every vaccine manufactures and trying to understand what would make a difference. I think dr. Fauci is saying if there is nothing with the Defe Defensive Act to do. The vaccine is rolling out and over 20 Million People have gotten it so far. Those people want to know if they still have to keep on wearing a mask and social distancing. This is what dr. Fauci said. You can conceivably get infected and get no symptoms and still have the virus, which means you would have to wear a mask to prevent you from infecting someone else as well as the other side of the coin where you may not be totally protecting yourself. Getting vaccinated does not say i have a free pass to put aside all the Public Health measures that we talk about all the time. Maybe i am wrong, i thought most people knew even if you get vaccinated, you still have to do all the social distancing things and stay vigilant and Going Forward in the days ahead . Exactly. I think dr. Fauci summarized it beautifully. We dont know whether people who are vaccinated can carry the virus. It is studied now and well know more about that as data comes in. Even people who are likely enough to be vaccinated already have to presume they could be silent carriers of the virus and pass it onto someone else. Even though this vaccine is phenomenal compares o other vaccine of 94 effective. It still means 6 that people could get it and can get sick. Wearing a mask is the right thing to do. It is going to be a while for all of this, the health part of it and the economic part of it. My mom got the vaccine and she says and i know others have as well. She said i am not rushing out to be in a crowded area or anywhere. I want to see how long this goes on and what happens as we move forward. Thats a great attitude to have for now. Once you start to figure it out, it is okay to start doing those things and we should. Lets talk about these variants if you will. We have to worry about that. Dr. Fauci says the vaccine should still be effective. Theyre working on a booster for the South African variant. It is great theyre trying to stay ahead of the game. Theyre already having trouble getting vaccines out, how are we going to manage getting a booster out as well . If we determine we need this booster and the vaccine is not effective as we needed to be against these new strains, i think it would be swapped into the production line. I think it could be relatively quickly. We would be able to make adjustments. We hope it does not need to happen. We can keep moving on the path we are on and getting it being stable and productive as we go. What the president is talking about is recognizing that our country is facing crisis. It is facing the covid19 which they are tracking and planning and pushing the vaccines out we also have this economic downturn thats significant. Millions of people are without jobs and people dont know if they can feed their families. This is the United States of america. At the same time we are being reminded of Racial Injustice and look at whos dying most from covid19 and look at whos in the crossed hair of Climate Change. His job, as he sees it is to bring all of these issues together and start solving this them. We can use the clean energy to make peoples lives healthier today and make them better prepare to face the next health challenge. We can use it to grow jobs and stabilize our economy. Thats what this is all about at a broad and aggressive scale. Well, it is great to see someone with such passion. Thank you for your passion, for your work. Lets talk about something you just talked about. Communities of color. They are suffering from the crisis. What are you going to do specifically to fix that . What we are focused on is doing actions thatll reduce Air Pollution in those communities. We are looking at committing 40 of the resources the investments we are making are going to be on Environmental Justice communities. Well look at better opportunities for better houses. Well look at clean energy. We are going to look at opportunities to transition away from those dirty trucks and buses and invest into Transportation System that works for everyone. We are going to do this in a way that recognizes the need to invest in these communities first and foremost but we are also not leaving the workers behind, don. We need work. I dont need sacrifices from everyone. Havent we sacrificed enough . Lets look at how we build it better by investing again in the United Statess infrastructure and getting opportunities for new jobs and growth. Let me ask you this. Have you identify specific communities . I know this position is new. Have you had a chance to identify specific communities . I can give you a Hole Laundry List and a wHole Laundry List of cities where they have been left behind where the Air Pollution is putting their kids into the hospital for Asthma Attacks all the time. I can give you a Community Like lets just say cancer alley in louisiana. If you have never been there, go take a visit. Thats where i am from. Well, then you know and you see what it is like. All of these Pollution Sources need to be controlled and managed. We are now rolling back more than 125 roll backs that the Prior Administration put in place to get rid of fundamental health protections. Stop enforcing. We are having the doj, the department of justice create a unit thats all about Environmental Justice and starting to enforce appropriately in the communities that are facing cumulative impact. We are building a new office at hhs thats all about healthcare, access to healthcare and this relationship to Climate Change. It is just a new day and we are going to treat it like the best opportunity we have for tomorrow. When i was a kid and probably still now, i live near chemical plants, both of my parents worked at a chemical plant. There would be emissions and it would take the pain off the cars. It would not be good for humans if it was taking paints off of cars. A lot of people believe Climate Crisis, adviser, it is here but they dont understand how it affects them in their daily lives or what they can do to help solve the problem. B what do you say to those folks . We have been talking well, i think for far too long weve been talking about the Climate Crisis and trying to think that scare people will make them act. Were not using that approach. That approach has failed. Blam we want people to know that if you get up every day and you go to a job that is actually a Clean Energy Job you are contributing to the actions to stop Climate Change. If you want to have good food on your table, then lets start transitioning our agriculture to bring you healthy food free of toxic chemicals, healthy food that preserves carbon in the soil. We could go on and on. But i just want people to understand that a Clean Energy Future is about them, their families, their health, their ability to live in a house that is safe and efficient and affordable. It is going transform our country and be able to address all these four crises at the same time. And we shouldnt demand anything less than that. Listen, you mentioned, and its been in the news forever. Its an awful example. But flint, michigan. What can flint, michigan expect with the water crisis . Because they are the perfect example of one of those communities that really needs help. They are the perfect example of communities that have been disinvested in. When weve seen our industries collapse. So part of this is about rebuilding our manufacturing sector. Part of this is building off of President Bidens buy america campaign. So we are actually using the power of the federal Procurement Process to actually start investing in the technologies of today and the future and rebuilding manufacturing again. You know, your mom and dad worked in those factories because that was a good job for them. Everybody needs to have a good job to go to. We have to be able to use this as that opportunity. But those factories need to stop polluting both their employees and the people around them. And we have technologies that can do that. Were going to believe in science again. Entire families wiped out. Only a lucky few survived and built new lives on that foundation of pain. I want you to listen to one of the survivors. There are fewer and fewer now so many years later. Dr. Irene butter, now an american citizen, looks at what happened at the capitol. Listen. There are, again, echoes of the holocaust. And on january 6th we saw it in our own country when there was an attempted coup and rioting in washington, d. C. And some of the rioters wore nazi symbols and used nazi slogans.
