Carver Recreation Center celebrated the official dedication of its new 3,800-square-foot splash pad on Thursday, an addition Center Supervisor Herb Greenlee called a dream come true. The splash pad, located at 322 W. Watauga Ave., will open for the public this morning at 10. It was funded using matching funds the city put forth to construct a new playground at Carver in 2018. According to a press release from the city, Carver Recreation Center is home to Johnson City's first recirculating splash pad system, which conserves water by collecting it from the features and chemically treating it in a 2,000-gallon reservoir to ensure it is sanitized before pumping it back to the features. The recirculating system also increases water pressure, which allows it to power larger features like the bucket dump.
