HALIFAX -- It’s going to be a while before the smile is extinguished from one Cape Breton senior's face. Ninety-one-year-old Bernice Sampson has always wanted to ride in a fire truck, and her wish finally came true when one pulled up outside her home to pick her up. "The only thing I was thinking was 'my gosh, the neighbours might think I’m having a fire over here,'" said Sampson. "It wasn’t a fire, it was something more exciting than that." It all started when her grandson Adam, a member of the North Sydney volunteer fire department, started hatching the plan.
