SET ABLAZE ON this day 100 years ago, the Custom House burned for a full ten days.
That was in spite of being attended by a Fire Brigade that had already been proven to be competent and well-resourced
and also in spite of being surrounded on two sides by large bodies of water and on the other by perfectly efficient fire hydrants.
