By: British North Borneo Herald Text Size: 16TH AUG. 1938 The Herald of 50 Years Ago The following is taken from the Herald of the 1st July, 1888 We take the subjoined telegram from the Straits Times of the 14th May, 1888:- The British Government has signed an agreement assuming tutelage of British North Borneo. No definite information has yet been received of the terms agreed upon by the Court and the Foreign Office with regard to the protectorate established over this territory. ADVERTISEMENT But without venturing to draw any rash inferences we may congratulate ourselves that British North Borneo will henceforth enjoy a more permanent and secure position under the aegis of the British Government than that which it has hitherto occupied under the Charter.
