A new study has sadly found that Black women have a significantly higher risk of miscarrying of up to 43% compared to their white counterparts. The research, from the team at Tommy's baby loss charity, was published in
The Lancetand analysed data from 4.6 million pregnancies in seven different countries in order to reach the conclusion. It also estimates that 23 million miscarriages occur every year worldwide, equating to over 40 pregnancy losses every minute.
Scientists are now investigating whether other health issues, such as fibroid conditions and autoimmune disorders, could help explain this increased risk for Black women.
