Heading into 2020, SoDel Concepts President Scott Kammerer said he and other restaurateurs across the state, but especially in the Cape Region, were expecting it to be a banner year. “We were coming off one of the best years the restaurant industry had ever had,” said Kammerer, a 30-year veteran of the food service industry, of 2019. “The first couple of 2020 months began strong, too. Then COVID hit in March and everything changed.” Nine months later, Kammerer, who is finishing the first year of a two-year term as Delaware Restaurant Association board chairman, said industry sales as a whole are down $1 billion from last year.
