Everything truly is bigger in Texas.
On Thursday, CJ Oates from Lago Vista reeled in a massive 13.02-pound largemouth bass while fishing in Lake Austin. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, largemouth bass over 10 to 12 pounds are "extremely rare."
"There are only a few other states that have produced a fish that's larger than that," Kyle Brookshear, a Toyota ShareLunker Program Coordinator for TPWD, said. "Texas is unique, and we really are a destination for personal record class sized fish, and 13 pounds is abnormal. It's a world-class sized fish. It doesn't happen very often."
