Bid to scrap Liverpool mayor position amid furore over all-female shortlist A vote could be held next week paving the way for Liverpool’s mayoral system to be abolished, amid anger over the Labour party’s decision to scrap its all-female shortlist for city mayor. Labour had drawn up an all-female shortlist of candidates made up of acting mayor Wendy Simon, former deputy mayor Ann O'Byrne and current Lord Mayor Anna Rothery. But earlier this week it emerged that the party was scrapping the shortlist and had decided to reopen the whole application process, without explaining its reasons for doing this.
