But he’s been in service for a couple of decades in the National Guard.
Those two paths intersected on Friday when Lashlee shipped out for nearly a year of duty overseas in northwest Africa.
“My skillset is the same that I’ve had all along, but the last 10 years, I’ve gotten more into contracting,” Lashlee said. “So I’m over there helping get things procured that we need to set up operations in the less developed regions that we work in.
“So while our group is operating close to hostile territory, we’re doing a lot of setup maneuvers like building bridges, making roadways, installing well-water systems and things like that for others who will come in and do more security-type work.”
