for the confusion over the family photograph issued by kensington palace on mother's day — the princess of wales has admitted *sometimes editing pictures*. several news agencies had withdrawn the photo, over concerns it had been digitally manipulated. but kensington palace says, it won't release the original, unedited photograph. there is always frenzied speculation about the royals there's been a lot of unsubstantiated speculation about the princess of wales health. this picture released yesterday was the first official image of her this year after that surgery back in january. a number of people have noticed discrepancies. once you see them they are actually hard to ignore. have a look at this bit. this is princess charlotte's sleeve as you can see these bits here don't match up. the same is true if you look at princess catherine's zip for the part of it is here, part of his hair, it doesn't match up in this picture either. and i'm finally this is a hand, princess catherine's hand around the waist of one of the princesses. it is blurry. there are a few other examples like this which are a bit less obvious. but people noticing these issues that led to a number of picture agencies removing this image last night saying it shouldn't be used. that is clearly not normal for that that led to the statement this morning from the princess of wales apologising for the confusion. this picture of course and saying she experimented with editing like many other amateur photographers. we've spoken to experts, some before princess catherine's statements him after about some of the issues with this picture. they all said it is consistent with simple editing or amateur editing perhaps on an application like photoshop. they don't think there's anything more significant that there are signs of ai significant that there are signs of al or something being used. the theory that this is in editing issue is supported by this. this is the pictures metadata. information of images attached to them. this is the metadata attached to the press association version of the picture. we've been looking through it. if you look at this bit here, the history when section it makes it clear that this image was saved twice on photoshop. one on friday evening, that is that bit here at five to ten at night and also on saturday morning at 20 to ten in the morning. both on eight computer. that's a bit more information we think about what might*ve happened here. the hope from kensington palace will be that explaining that there were some edits to this will end the debate over the issues in this picture. but a final thing that's worth pointing out, so far we don't have the original picture. so we know what doesn't look right about this one but without seeing the original and them side by side we can't be certain about exactly what changes were made. the princess of wales said "like many amateur photographers, i do occasionally experiment with editing" on social media x — well, for the british photographers association, this trend is concerning — here's jamie lorriman, chairman of the british photographers association it's important that press photography is honest, genuine and transparent. i would photography is honest, genuine and transparent. iwould hope photography is honest, genuine and transparent. i would hope that we would see more press photographers taking these kind of pictures rather than being spoon—fed a hand—out picture but seems more and more these days. historically the rotor system which when you had a press photographer in the room was well used. in recent years more and more people, government and royal households are releasing their own pictures. and the access has been blocked. i would like to see more access in transparency and stepping away from... they are notjournalist taking these pictures and editing them and sending them out. it's the job of a press photographer to show that honestly. it's very important picture. this was a very important picture, which has undermined itself with the edit. figs picture, which has undermined itself with the edit-— with the edit. as always if you want to read more _ with the edit. as always if you want to read more about _ with the edit. as always if you want to read more about the _ with the edit. as always if you want to read more about the story - with the edit. as always if you want to read more about the story you . with the edit. as always if you want i to read more about the story you can go to our website. there is this jerry you can see holding the latest photo of catherine leaving windsor with prince william. all that and plenty more on the bbc*s website which you can access both online and on news app. it was a case that shook britain. in february last year 16 year old brianna j—eye was kiled in what was described year 16 year old brianna ghey was kiled in what was described as a "brutal, planned and sadistic" murder. her killers? two 16 year olds who stabbed brianna 28 times after luring her to a meeting in a cheshire park. now the mother of murdered teenager, who was transgender,, has met a parent of one of her daughter's killers. estherjheye met the mother of scarlettjenkinson — who was jailed for life last month. the two women discussed the dangers of mobile phone use by children and the challenges of parenting. sally nugent has been speaking to estherjheye, brianna's mum. i know that all of these emotions and, like, feelings like hate — it's only going to impact me. i genuinely don't feel any of those towards scarlett*s parents, and. i actually don't feel that towards scarlett, either. esther ghey talking about one of the teenagers who murdered her daughter. 16—year—old brianna was stabbed to death last february. scarlettjenkinson and eddie ratcliffe had watched videos of violence and torture online before killing her. now, just over a year later, esther has metjenkinson*s mother. you instigated that meeting, why did you want to meet her? the crime that's been committed has impacted so many other people and, obviously, what they've gone through is terrible, as well. and they've lost a child and they haven't only lost a child, but they've also got to live with what's happened now for the rest of their life. both of us are mothers who are trying to navigate something that nobody should ever have gone through. and i think, for that, i kind of feel. ..a bit of a connection to her, as well. and how was that meeting? it was emotional. we had a few, like, very personal. we spoke about very personal things, and she was very open with me and she was so respectful, as well. i think that her coming to see me shows a great deal of bravery on her part, as well. since her daughter's death, esther ghey has been campaigning for better online safety for children and for mindfulness to be taught to young people in schools. you talk about choosing to make something positive out of the most horrific thing that could possibly happen. if you were able to cooperate or work in some way with scarlettjenkinson*s mum, how much do you think you might be able to achieve? i imagine that might be quite a powerful combination. we're working together in a very private way. there is good out there and i think the level of support we've received across the uk, and the kindness that we've received from people as well as scarlett*s family, as well, itjust show that there is that hope of unity and for people to be better to one another, as well. esther is hoping that working with the mother of her daughter's killer might help with her campaign to make society a safer place for young people. still to come on the world today — paving the way in sierra leone for that we spoke to eldest elbow for his dreams are in a small part of west africa. from naked men to fashionably dressed people, we will bring you all the highlights from the oscar ceremony. -- it —— itjust elbow. around the world and across the uk. this is the world today on bbc news. bbc news — bringing you different stories from across the uk. - she's gone. ringing practice at ripon cathedral. you might not expect to find a child holding the ropes. but 13—year—old alice barrett is a fully fledged member of the team. it's definitely more than just like pulling a rope, which is what most people think. it's much more complex, both physically and mentally. she's recently become one of the youngest qualified ringers in yorkshire, having spent the last three years in training. i'm actually really proud of her. it's taken a long time for her to get from being a very small child to where she is now. bell tolls. a majestic sound created by a skilled team. it takes strong arms to handle the bells and a certain height. standing on a box helps. for more stories from across the uk. head to the bbc news website. there is no doubt hollywood superstar idris elba is many people's idea of the perfect lead man — but now the actor is hoping to lead something very different indeed. idris has set his sights on heading up a regeneration project in sierra leone, working together with the grandson of the former president. they're aiming to build an eco—city on the rural sherbro island — off the coast of west africa. they recently announced plans for a wind and solarfarm, in a country where fewer than three in ten households have access to electricity. britain's octopus energy generation will build the project and our business reporter david waddell spoke to its ceo zoisa north—bond and with mr elba, who explained why sherbro island was chosen. originally we went there looking at how could we bring tourism to the most incredible 19 miles of beachfront that was there? and then we saw something a bit more innovative, a bit more exciting was this idea of building a sort of eco smart city, preserving what's beautiful about it, but at the same time attracting partners to help build it out, if you like, and explore it. so that's how it came about. this is a question for zoisa. there's a lot of work to be done to make this project work. have you identified local skills and experience that are needed to complete the project? absolutely. we would want to work with local communities to be able to upskill as much as possible. we even want the wind farm to be able to unlock new industry and actually to unlock old industries as well, such as fisheries and fishing. so, refrigeration suddenly gives us the opportunity to be able to do that again. what is it first attracted octopus to partnering with international tv and film star idris elba? well, i was going to say, the way you put it — i mean, several reasons in that when we met with both siaka and idris, the one thing that actually blew me away was their knowledge of renewable energy. they were describing to me how this was a wind tunnel and it has, you know, 16 hours of sunshine that we can be looking at. so it was that as much as, of course, a name like idris's and siaka who, of course, is the grandson of the former president of sierra leone as well. so we knew that relationships would have been built there. and idris, what is it that inspired you to lend notjust your passion, but also your name to a project like this? never in my lifetime would i have thought i could help build the foundation for a new smart city. no, i'm not qualified for that. but i am qualified to dream big. and my parents came to this country when they were young, late *60s, with the aspirations of going home. my mum's still alive, but my dad isn't. so part of me wants to build that beautiful retirement home for my mum where she can go back and say, "wow," you know, "my little guy that was born in hackney came back home and built this incredible island. " and it's a dream, you know? but i work in the make—believe business and it's exactly that — make—believe, you know. talking about make—believe and where better is there a place where make—believe is made believable than hollywood. to hollywood now, where the film industry has just celebrated its biggest night — the oscars. in a short while, we'll hearfrom our culture editor in los angeles, but first, if you had not followed — who got the gongs? as expected, the big winner was the christopher nolan epic oppenheimer which won seven awards, including best picture. next, with four wins, was the quirky period drama poor things da'vinejoy randolph won the best supporting actress award for her performance in the holdovers* barbie — in the holdovers'. barbie — the highest grossing film of the year — won the original song oscar for billie eilish's "what was i made for?" a big guy come surprises. let's speak to ashanti omkar, a film, tv and culture critic. thank you forjoining us. as i said there, few surprises at these oscars. we all predicted oppenheimer would do well and it did.— would do well and it did. indeed it did. would do well and it did. indeed it did- seven — would do well and it did. indeed it did. seven oscars _ would do well and it did. indeed it did. seven oscars there. - for the confusion over the family photograph issued by kensington palace on mother's day — the princess of wales has admitted *sometimes editing pictures*. several news agencies had withdrawn the photo, over concerns it had been digitally manipulated. but kensington palace says, it won't release the original, unedited photograph. there is always frenzied speculation about the royals there's been a lot of unsubstantiated speculation about the princess of wales health. this picture released yesterday was the first official image of her this year after that surgery back in january. a number of people have noticed discrepancies. once you see them they are actually hard to ignore. have a look at this bit. this is princess charlotte's sleeve as you can see these bits here don't match up. the same is true if you look at princess catherine's zip for the part of it is here, part of his hair, it doesn't match up in this picture either. and i'm finally this is a hand, princess catherine's hand around the waist of one of the princesses. it is blurry. there are a few other examples like this which are a bit less obvious. but people noticing these issues that led to a number of picture agencies removing this image last night saying it shouldn't be used. that is clearly not normal for that that led to the statement this morning from the princess of wales apologising for the confusion. this picture of course and saying she experimented with editing like many other amateur photographers. we've spoken to experts, some before princess catherine's statements him after about some of the issues with this picture. they all said it is consistent with simple editing or amateur editing perhaps on an application like photoshop. they don't think there's anything more significant that there are signs of ai significant that there are signs of al or something being used. the theory that this is in editing issue is supported by this. this is the pictures metadata. information of images attached to them. this is the metadata attached to the press association version of the picture. we've been looking through it. if you look at this bit here, the history when section it makes it clear that this image was saved twice on photoshop. one on friday evening, that is that bit here at five to ten at night and also on saturday morning at 20 to ten in the morning. both on eight computer. that's a bit more information we think about what might*ve happened here. the hope from kensington palace will be that explaining that there were some edits to this will end the debate over the issues in this picture. but a final thing that's worth pointing out, so far we don't have the original picture. so we know what doesn't look right about this one but without seeing the original and them side by side we can't be certain about exactly what changes were made. the princess of wales said "like many amateur photographers, i do occasionally experiment with editing" on social media x — well, for the british photographers association, this trend is concerning — here's jamie lorriman, chairman of the british photographers association it's important that press photography is honest, genuine and transparent. i would photography is honest, genuine and transparent. iwould hope photography is honest, genuine and transparent. i would hope that we would see more press photographers taking these kind of pictures rather than being spoon—fed a hand—out picture but seems more and more these days. historically the rotor system which when you had a press photographer in the room was well used. in recent years more and more people, government and royal households are releasing their own pictures. and the access has been blocked. i would like to see more access in transparency and stepping away from... they are notjournalist taking these pictures and editing them and sending them out. it's the job of a press photographer to show that honestly. it's very important picture. this was a very important picture, which has undermined itself with the edit. figs picture, which has undermined itself with the edit-— with the edit. as always if you want to read more _ with the edit. as always if you want to read more about _ with the edit. as always if you want to read more about the _ with the edit. as always if you want to read more about the story - with the edit. as always if you want to read more about the story you . with the edit. as always if you want i to read more about the story you can go to our website. there is this jerry you can see holding the latest photo of catherine leaving windsor with prince william. all that and plenty more on the bbc*s website which you can access both online and on news app. it was a case that shook britain. in february last year 16 year old brianna j—eye was kiled in what was described year 16 year old brianna ghey was kiled in what was described as a "brutal, planned and sadistic" murder. her killers? two 16 year olds who stabbed brianna 28 times after luring her to a meeting in a cheshire park. now the mother of murdered teenager, who was transgender,, has met a parent of one of her daughter's killers. estherjheye met the mother of scarlettjenkinson — who was jailed for life last month. the two women discussed the dangers of mobile phone use by children and the challenges of parenting. sally nugent has been speaking to estherjheye, brianna's mum. i know that all of these emotions and, like, feelings like hate — it's only going to impact me. i genuinely don't feel any of those towards scarlett*s parents, and. i actually don't feel that towards scarlett, either. esther ghey talking about one of the teenagers who murdered her daughter. -
