manchester city, in today's derby. a marcus rashford wonder strike had them daring to dream going into half time, as city missed a string of chances. but pep guardiola's side were on the money in the beaten 2—0 at home by bournemouth in the day's early game. justin kluivert scored in the first half to put burnley on the way to another home loss. burnley have never lost this many home league games in a single season. antoine semenyo made the game safe late in the second, meaning vincent kompany�*s side are yet to win this year, and are second from bottom still — 11 points from safety with 11 games remaining. what do i want from my team? i want the team to show the energy that they did today, to show that they are willing to fight and do everything for what is a wonderful opportunity, being in the premier league with burnley. that's it. in the end, winning, losing, i've been in the game long enough to know that you are not always in control of that final ball to put it in the back of the net, and you have got to rely on your players to turn the corner. that's really important. we were in a good moment, i think we were playing well lately but not getting the wins. probably we need a game like this, where probably we didn't play so well. but you know how to win it, you finish with a clean sheet. i think it will give us some confidence for the next games, so very important for us. so, let's take a look at how things stand in the table. at the top, manchester city close the gap to liverpool to just a point, with arsenal still to play tomorrow against the league's bottom united. bournemouth now three points clear of crystal palace in 13th. celtic lost 2—0 at hearts, as the scottish premiership title race took another twist. the game was punctuated by several incidents that needed var intervention, as third—placed hearts secured back—to—back wins over celtic for the first time in 18 years. it's also the first time in six years that both celtic and rangers have have suffered league defeats on the same weekend. adam cottier reports. following rangers' surprise home defeat to motherwell on saturday, celtic had the opportunity to reassert their authority in the title race. and a foul by hearts presented the defending champions with an early chance to take the lead, but a miss from the spot. moments later, a celtic player was sent off after a var check, leaving his manager, brendan rodgers, gazing at an uncomfortable afternoon in edinburgh. a handball saw hearts awarded a penalty and jorge grant put the home team 1—0 up. hearts's lawrence shankland was the league's leading goalscorer, and he wasn't to be denied after the break. hearts goalkeeper continued to close the door at the other end, with celtic letting rangers off the hook, with a loss leaving them two points behind their glasgow neighbours. arsenal kept pace in the women's super league title race with a 1—0 win over spurs. alessio russo bagged the only goal in the north london derby to ensure arsenal stayed three points behind leaders manchester city. beth mead got the assist, and is the first player in wsl history to rack up a0 assists at one club. spurs are a top side and they play some top football. we knew it was going to be tough. coming off the back of international break, we knew we had to get to work quickly, and we wanted to make everyone proud, especially at the emirates. it was tough, but the important thing is the three points. we just need to improve a little bit more to make sure we are sharp in some situations. i want to win, i definitely want to win, but i also understand arsenal away is one of the most difficult games you can have. we competed for 97 minutes and pushed them down, that's what i want to see right now. we are taking steps right now, and in the long end we are going to be able to win these games. big wins in the other matches today — brighton put seven past bristol city, the league's bottom side. a good win for liverpool too, 4—1 away at aston villa. west ham drew with 4th placed manchester united. and chelsea look set to go back to the top of the table, they're beating leicester 4—0 in the late game. you can watch row, they beat hibernian 3—0, with two goals from mia mcauley. rangers play second—place celtic next in two weeks' time. celtic also won today, thumping partick thistle 6—1 to stay four points behind rangers. amy gallacher scored a hat—trick, her third courtesy of a fine solo run from kit loferski. glasgow city beat aberdeen women 8—1 to stay level on points with celtic in the three—horse title race. in america — lionel messi and luis suarez scored two goals each to take inter miami to the top of the standings in major league soccer. it was a thumping win over local rivals orlando city, suarez started off the scoring afterjust three minutes. the uruguayan might be 37, but he hasn't lost his ability to finish. suarez got a second, before messi's two goals rounded off a 5—0 win. the france a week today. katie boulter is preparing for her first wta 500 final this evening at the san diego open, where she'll play ukraine's marta kostyuk. the british number one has never been beyond the last 16 of such a high ranking event until now. she reached it by beating number three seed emma navarro in straight sets. lebronjames has become the first player in the nba to score 40,000 career points. this is the moment he reached the milestone against the denver nuggets. the crowd gave james a standing ovation during a timeout, and the ball he used to score that historic point was removed europe. we are going to find out more about the man behind this unlikely turnaround, gary o'neill. he has taken wolves to ninth in the premier league at the time of recording, an improvement on the last couple of years. with 11 wins this season, that is as many as they manage all of the last campaign. they have been prolific in front of goal. they are up to a0 already, better than they have managed at this stage since their return to the top flight. let's chat to charlotte dunker, the times football reporter. remind us where we were in the summer with wolves. things went very wrong for wolves on the eve of the season. just four days before the start of the new season, it was announced that julen lopetegui was leaving the club. he was unhappy with the lack of spending, and they were worried that his negative morale was going to affect the team. gary o'neill was brought in. i don't think they would have been the same as they are now under gary o'neill. i think the players have really bought into what the manager wants to do. they really like him as a man manager. if you look at the players he has improved — hwang hee—chan. lamina. they are now key parts of this wolves side. gary o'neil has improved them on an individual basis, and i think that is testament to the sort of man manager he is. the players and everyone at the club just feel a lot more connected to gary o'neill than they did tojulen lopetegui. let's find out more about that connection. what is it like being a wolves fan at the minute? it reminds me back to the nuno era. it was a really, really exciting time. i think the wolves fans almost got a bit entitled. gary o'neill came in and he wasn't the fans' choice. he has really, really turned it around, there is a massive belief there, not only amongst the support base, but with the squad as well. you can see that with how he has transformed some of the players. let's talk about europe, maybe not that far—fetched. charlotte, are the club genuinely thinking about europe or not? i think every time we have asked gary o'neill about it at a press conference he has tried his very best to play it down. he has said that the fans can dream of europe, but inside it is not something that they are talking about. i had an interview with one of the players, and he said the same thing. when we were verging on europe last time, it does get so exciting. you can almost feel it now. but you don't want to jinx it. we have had a remarkable season. us wolves fans at the start of the season, if we had been offered 16th, we probably would have took it, especially on the eve of the season. but i'm sure gary o'neill is not putting that message out to the players. we certainly do not feel it as supporters. it is almost dangerous to have these expectation levels. i don't think he should be under any pressure at all, he has already had a remarkable season. i'm hoping we finish on a high. if we get to europe, our passports are ready. the work that has been done, i'm proud of the players and how committed and hard—working they have been and the quality they have managed to show. but, yeah, the good feeling and the momentum that we have created is not unbreakable and it is not perfect. there are still cracks in what we do and there are still opportunities for us to make mistakes, and we need to be constantly on guard and constantly ready to go full tilt. one man who knows how to go full tilt alongside gary o'neill is former team—mate stewart downing. give us a sense of what he was like. a bit chirpy. he is a good lad. he was a big golf man at the time when i played with him. a really good team player, hard—working. i knew what we were signing at middlesbrough. a really good player. everybody seems to describe him as a man with meticulous attention to detail. did you see that when he was a player? i know him personally because my brother—in—law worked with him at bournemouth, jonathan woodgate. i asked him about gary, and he said he is quite meticulous in what he wants. he studies other teams quite well. i think if he wants something done, he wants it done properly. he goes right into detail on the other teams. i watch him on sky a couple of weeks ago talking about systems and players. you can see he is right on it and he knows what he wants from his players. i think he has got real clarity on that. what do you think he can go on and achieve at his on and achieve at his managerial career? how high can he go? i think for gary it willjust be one job at a time. from now to the end of the season, there are still some big points to play for, it can easily slip away. i think for him he has just got to keep going, finish as high as he can. just getting into the top half, that would be a tremendous season for them. i'm sure he is thinking just one season at a time, one block, get the job done until the end of the season. maybe getting some of his own players in. thank you forjoining
