this evening. yes, it's true that every muslim is bitterly angry at keir starmer and his misnamed labour party, but you would be very foolish if you did not realise that millions of other citizens of downing street or wherever keir starmer currently hangs out. i look forward to working with mr tully and i hope he'lljoin the grand alliance to wipe rochdale's town hall clean, because this town has been badly let down. once one of the most prosperous towns in england, now one of the poorest. whose heart has been, piece by piece, removed. the maternity, the a&d. i understand you can't even be locked up in rochdale. there's not even a jail cell to toss a miscreant in. mr danczuk might be glad to hear it. but the biggest new threat that we face is the possibility of the extinction of the proud rochdale football club. and i pledge that i will work tirelessly — i hope with the town council, as changed in 12 weeks' time, to save the dale. god blast he. god bless rochdale, god bless gaza. cheering and applause so that is george galloway, who has won the rochdale by—election with 12,335 votes, a majority ofjust over 5,500. as we heard there in his victory speech, he took aim at the leader, sir keir starmer. he said this is for gaza and he'll pay a high price for the catastrophe in gaza. i said that mr starmer, above all, the plates have shifted tonight. he said this is going to spark a movement, a landslides, again saying moving the tectonic plates. mr galloway went on to say labour is on notice. they have lost the confidence of millions of their voters. then he said keir starmer and rishi sunak, and i quote him, "are two cheeks of the same backside and they got well and truly spanked in rochdale". he thanked his campaign team and he also thanked the people of rochdale who voted for him but he also promised to work for everyone in rochdale. he also went on to congratulate the independent candidate david tully, who came second, with 6,638 votes. he said the result will not have been missed in or with sir keir starmer. well, with can now take a look at that result in full. let us look at the graphic and you will be able to see there, george galloway, the workers party of britain. then, as i said, a remarkable second place for david tully with 6,638 votes. then, in third place, you have paul ellison, who is the conservative candidate, with 3,731. then you can see azhar ali — officially he was on the ballot because it couldn't be changed — as the labour candidate, although the party did disown him. he got 2,402 votes. iain donaldson from the lib dems there with 2,164. and the reform party candidate simon danczuk with 1,968. so we can now see what that means for the share of the vote. and as you can see, the george galloway workers party of britain getting 40% of the share of the vote. and the independent candidate, david tully, getting 21% with the conservatives down there with 12%. what does that mean for the share change? here you can see, of course, up change? here you can see, of course, up 40% because they were not standing last time, george galloway�*s party and the independent up galloway�*s party and the independent up there by 21%. then you can see the conservatives are down 19% and that huge bloc down for labour by 44%. so what does that mean for the swing? well, here is the swing in the vote. who doesn't like a swingometerjust before 3:00 in the morning? you can see that 41.8% swing from labour to george galloway�*s workers party of britain. let's head back to the count our political correspondent. a big win for george galloway, peter? $5 for george galloway, peter? sis expected, for george galloway, peter? is expected, as we've been predicting for the last few hours, he did win comfortably. he's speaking next to me speaking to another broadcaster and we hope to speak to him shortly. you heard him give that speech there saying this was a very, very strong message he was sending particularly to the leader of the labour party, keir starmer, that the muslim population was fed up with labour's position on that and want him to take a stronger stance on what israel is doing in gaza right now. just to go through some of the other candidates too, extraordinary result really for the independent candidates dave tully, who came from nowhere really. he was not involved in politics at all until a few weeks ago and came second in this by—election and did so fairly comfortable, pushing the conservatives into third and the labour candidate, azhar ali — who, of course, was dropped by the party earlier in the campaign — finished fourth. any hope that he might have had of perhaps coming through with his name next to the labour red rose on the ballot was dashed. the liberal democrats came fifth the reform uk, a disappointing position for them, reform uk, a disappointing position forthem, simon reform uk, a disappointing position for them, simon danczuk in sixth. we wait to hear, really, from george galloway now, who is the star of this by—election, making an extraordinary comeback to front—line politics, once again. and making the case there that actually this would potentially be the first of many seats falling, he said, across the north—west of england, the midlands, and london, areas with large muslim populations, that he believes want to send a very strong message indeed to send a very this. there were a particular set of circumstances surrounding their candidate in this by—election, but this is damaging, it is a headache for the labour party, no doubt about it. there'll be so much attention on george galloway who when he does turn up in the houses of parliament, and he's extolling a point of view that does still exist, actually, among labour members of parliament — perhaps not to quite the tent of george galloway. a lot of those labour members are now independent. jeremy corbyn, who george galloway supported when he was leader, is still there and has been calling for some time for an immediate ceasefire in gaza. should be noted that labour has now said that it does back an immediate humanitarian ceasefire — thatis immediate humanitarian ceasefire — that is reflective of where the
