northern scotland could see a shower, one or two down the north sea coast as well, but otherwise dry with plenty of sunshine. feeling pretty chilly outside, six and seven is pretty commonplace, well below average for the stage of november. into the second half of the weekend, this weak area of low pressure moving on from the west, bringing subtle changes to our weather. another cold and frosty night then damp weather pushing into northern ireland, wales and west in england. ahead of that, after a cold and frosty start, temperatures slow to rise, but turning mild in western areas. otherwise, it called a feeling day, temperatures are around five or 6 degrees, the cold weather staying with us for next week. and that's bbc news at six. the news continues here on bbc one with the news where you are. in terms of timings and it does not need much to do this which is why i have always exercised or urged caution here because both sides have theirfingers caution here because both sides have their fingers on the trigger and there are some the things that could still go wrong so you are right, there are strict time frames here but it is essential that trust, as much as it can be, maintained here through the intermediaries, the qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about _ qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about which _ qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about which side _ qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about which side has - qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about which side has the - this is about which side has the upper hand in negotiations and at the moment hamas is using the release as hostages in a limited fasted spreading them over a number of days trying to use that as leverage in these negotiations. we know that israeli authorities have said they will extend four extra days that cease—fire if more hostages are released. but the question once again, does that hand hamas too much power in this negotiation?— hamas too much power in this negotiation? hamas too much power in this neuotiation? ~ ., ., , negotiation? whether or not it is the u- er negotiation? whether or not it is the upper hand _ negotiation? whether or not it is the upper hand that _ negotiation? whether or not it is the upper hand that is _ negotiation? whether or not it is the upper hand that is for - negotiation? whether or not it isj the upper hand that is for hamas negotiation? whether or not it is - the upper hand that is for hamas and israel to determine. both sides enter into negotiation knowing what it is they are willing and able to pay to give up in orderfor what they want from the other side. they have obviously agreed this and israel has a history of placing the recovery and release of hostages and israeli citizens taken hostage as a priority so they would see this as a necessary deal they need to make in order to get their people back. i wonder, when it comes to negotiations, given that the israeli stated aim is to destroy hamas, how do you negotiate with an organisation that your stated aim is quite clear and it has been reiterated a number of times is that israel wants to destroy hamas. can it negotiate on that basis? that is wh we it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are _ it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are in _ it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are in the _ it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are in the position - it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are in the position where l it negotiate on that basis? that is i why we are in the position where we are using third—party intermediaries, the qatari is and others because both sides here, there stated aim is the elimination of the other party. which makes it a quite unique negotiation where you negotiate with somebody who ultimately you want to destroy. so they are having to temper themselves here so they can, both sides, get what they want, from the steel. goad what they want, from the steel. good to have you — what they want, from the steel. good to have you with _ what they want, from the steel. good to have you with us _ what they want, from the steel. good to now to the director of international institute for counterterrorism at creighton university in israel and a retired colonel from the idf. thank you for being with us. a significant day, a breakthrough in terms of the release of those hostages. this pause in the fighting allows that exchange to take place. what is your assessment of what happens next? how long can the pause last? i was listenin: long can the pause last? i was listening before _ long can the pause last? i was listening before to _ long can the pause last? i was listening before to the - listening before to the conversations you have been having and i'm thinking to myself as an israeli now that you are describing in the negotiation process that israel has said we will destroy hamas, why don't we all remind yourself who hamas is. i must start because they want to destroy israel. they did a genocidal terror attack was of the took hostages because thatis was of the took hostages because that is the way that they would destroy israel internally. think of what he did inside of our country and is still doing and continue to do so i say that as a sign. i say moving forward all the bumps along the road that can't happen will most likely happen. i don't expect them to happen in the next few days, i think that both sides, israel, committed to destroy hamas and hamas committed to destroy hamas and hamas committed to destroy hamas and hamas committed to destroying israel, each understand at this stage that there is an additional aspect that is the hostages that hamas took and yes, we are paying in the end with prisoners that were arrested and put on trial. convicted, sentenced and put in jail. these are people who were terrace, that the people who commit terrorist acts against them are being released from israeli jails. that is the price to boot we will have to pay. for the next few days and we will. it is about us. how can we not release the nine month baby, archie waiting to see who was already ten and a half months. the cute little ginger headed kid. his brother who was three years old. —— are you not waiting to see. i think it will go on for a few more days and then bumps will come and then israel will go back to military pressure because the only reason hamas came to the table right now was because of the military pressure. fix. was because of the military pressure-— was because of the military ressure. * ., pressure. a little later in the programme _ pressure. a little later in the programme we _ pressure. a little later in the programme we will - pressure. a little later in the have talked to them already and we will play the interview already and we are keen to get theirfamily members interview already and we are keen to get their family members back that have been detained. we will play that leader because on both sides there are real disputes and arguments and we can get into those. i think it is important for us to look at what happens next because as you have touched on, much as israel is determined to eliminate hamas what today tells us is hamas still has significant power in these negotiations, does it not? that is exactly why _ negotiations, does it not? that is exactly why they _ negotiations, does it not? that is exactly why they took _ negotiations, does it not? that is exactly why they took the - negotiations, does it not? that is i exactly why they took the hostages. would you like to think of what it means now that in a mass hostage taking, it is unprecedented, has not happened and he were ever in the world, that hamas, the terror organisation comes out on the top. i absolutely, people who have been arrested or put on trial in israeli prisons. my heart could go out to mothers and others. let's not compare what hamas did as a terror organisation and taking the hostages and a mass hostage taking to the release of prisoners. we look forward into the future, i agree with some of the speakers before, it is not a happy one and i am happy today for the families. i want every one of the george at 40, notjust the 13 that came out today and, 12 additional, the 24 they came out today out of the 240, it does not matter if they are israeli or not. i want them all out. having said that, if hamas stands up and says, we are giving back the hostages, then we will all and this conflict right now. you and i know that is not what is going to happen. that now. you and i know that is not what is going to happen-— is going to happen. that is the oint. is going to happen. that is the point. public _ is going to happen. that is the point. public opinion _ is going to happen. that is the point. public opinion as - is going to happen. that is the point. public opinion as you i is going to happen. that is the i point. public opinion as you have touched on quite clearly in israel is pocketing all of those hostages back. everyone wants to see those hostages release. but given the stated aims of israel, that would mean not destroying hamas. therefore i wonder how what would square that argument that to get all of those hostages back, that involves not destroy hamas. it’s hostages back, that involves not destroy hamas.— hostages back, that involves not destroy hamas. it's interesting is that it is rrot _ destroy hamas. it's interesting is that it is not just _ destroy hamas. it's interesting is that it is notjust diplomacy - destroy hamas. it's interesting is that it is not just diplomacy thatl that it is notjust diplomacy that brought these hostages back, it is also the military pressure on them. it is as if diplomacy works hand—in—hand with the military pressure. three weeks ago it was said that we are not releasing any hostages, it we want all of the prisoners inside of itjails. that was three weeks ago. here we are three weeks later and they are going to release them. and there are saying they are not releasing, we can't, the snatched one side but we are doing so in such a way with military pressure and war is not privy and not easy and people are suffering. —— war is not pretty. the hostage situation is not one anyone in the world wants to succumb to peace if it does, then it becomes now know his sister danielle and daughter amelia are now amongst those who have been released today so some of those israeli hostages who have been released by hamas. among them, danielle and her daughter, emilia aloni. the pause in the fighting of course to allow the release of hostages and those palestinian children, but also key because it allows humanitarian aid to get into gaza. let's talk about what difference that could make. william bell is with us and he is head of the release policy and advocacy for christian aid. thank you for being with us. i will put the question to you. what difference will be of the aid there has been able to get in. from the un, 137 aid trucks will be able to unload and gaza since the start of that truce this morning. how important is that? that is a really small amount compared to the need and amount actually required. obviously four days of without bombing after seven weeks of intense bombardment is a welcome relief. everybody we spoke to clearly is relieved and will see this as summer spite. let's not forget that 1.7 million people out of 2.3 million people have been displaced. many of those have been living in shelters but many are not. many of them are hungry and do not have food and many are short of water as well. so there is an enormous amount of need. prior to october the 7th were 500 trucks a day going in. so 130 coming in under these circumstances is clearly a drop in the ocean. obviously it is to be welcomed. we would prefer this would be a permanent cease—fire and that every is really hostage and those held were released in the entirety is today. but we hope this becomes a permanent cease—fire because that is the only way that you are actually going to be able to address the enormous need that is in gaza. on top of obviously that displacement with united nations reporting in the region of 46,000 homes have been destroyed. so even though there is a respect for many, there is the thoughts of what sort of future people are going to have. so these are really difficult times, but obviously four days is better than nothing. but really, it is a permanent cease—fire that is required. permanent cease-fire that is re . uired. ., permanent cease-fire that is reuuired. ., ., ~' permanent cease-fire that is required-— permanent cease-fire that is reuuired. ., ., ,, ., required. you talk there about the limit, the opportunity _ required. you talk there about the limit, the opportunity into - required. you talk there about the limit, the opportunity into his - required. you talk there about the limit, the opportunity into his 40sj limit, the opportunity into his 40s how much carefully change it there is honestly and hope that this becomes an extended cease—fire or indeed, a cessation of the conflict. talk to me about what can achieved injust four talk to me about what can achieved in just four days because one hopes that the 137 trucks are just the start of several days of increased aid. we know it is sitting on the border. . . v aid. we know it is sitting on the border. . ., *, ., * aid. we know it is sitting on the border.. ., *, ., * ., border. . that's right. you're also towed as much _ border. . that's right. you're also towed as much as _ border. . that's right. you're also towed as much as obviously - border. . that's right. you're also towed as much as obviously we i border. . that's right. you're also i towed as much as obviously we hope that that contains food and medicine and obviously fuel, we are all securing from people on the ground is that people are absolutely exhausted. that includes medical teams. it also there is a need for people to help excavate those that are expected still alive underneath the rubble. so obviously any amount coming in is going to be of some help, but it does not going to be enough to be able to secure a permanent flow of aid into the strip. so as i said we hope this becomes permanent and that the hundreds of truck become thousands because that is what is required. what do we know about the situation particularly in southern gaza were so many people have been asked to move, making thejourney so many people have been asked to move, making the journey from the north of the territory from the south. we know the living conditions without food, water, electricity, medicine have been increasingly dire. what is in most need right now? , . , , now? pretty much everything. they are running — now? pretty much everything. they are running out _ now? pretty much everything. they are running out in _ now? pretty much everything. they are running out in some _ now? pretty much everything. they are running out in some cases i are running out in some cases in some more difficult to reach communities they have run out of things such as food. but it is easier to say that they need everything. that is why we hope that this is going to the start of more and more trucks coming in with medicine, food, blankets, mattresses. as a set, many who have moved from the north, over1 million people, are not living in some of the un shelters that we have seen on our tv screens. they are living in the streets. and obviously winter is set into move now. some people are in the cold, they are exposed and they are hungry. and absolutely exhausted. so they pretty much need everything. they also need a lot of hope and something to give them to imagine that they are going to have a betterfuture imagine that they are going to have a better future because of the moment despair is setting in. i wanted to talk to you about the weather because that changes things. we have seen images of the destruction in many parts of gaza particularly in the north and also many parts in the south as well. amid all of that with the weather taking a turn for the worse with those winter conditions, that brings a whole new set of problems, does not? * , ,., , a whole new set of problems, does not? absolutely. if you living in exosed not? absolutely. if you living in exposed in _ not? absolutely. if you living in exposed in the _ not? absolutely. if you living in exposed in the elements i not? absolutely. if you living in exposed in the elements you i not? absolutely. if you living in l exposed in the elements you are going to get cold. you are not going to have anywhere to shelter. that includes families who have not made it into shelters because there is simply not the capacity in the shelters whether they be schools or other municipal buildings. there is not enough space. because so many people have moved from the north to the south. obviously during the last few weeks as well there have been numbers of people having to move from the east of khan younis pushing people more and more into the south west part of the strip. so obviously the weeks ahead are going to be very tense and they will be made a lot easier if there was a permanent cease—fire and obviously if all the hostages were released. cease-fire and obviously if all the hostages were released. william, thank ou hostages were released. william, thank you for _ hostages were released. william, thank you for being _ hostages were will have the very hate loud —— headlines. stay with us. hello there. good evening. it's been a noticeably colder day today and that colder weather is going to stick around. the weekend will certainly be chilly. and with clearer skies and light winds, we're going to find some frost around as well before we see a bit more cloud arriving during the second half of the weekend. now, it's these north to north—westerly winds that have ushered in the colder air. we end up with higher pressure trying to build in from the west, meaning that the winds are falling lighter here, lower pressure to the east, and that's driven in stronger winds and a few showers down some north sea coasts as well. most of the showers today, earlier on at least, have been across north—eastern parts of scotland. but even here, those showers are becoming fewer and the wind is beginning to drop a bit as well. certainly got lighter winds inland. a lot of the cloud that we started the day with has been breaking up after some earlier sunshine. we've got the clear skies overnight. we will keep some clouds blowing into northern scotland. the odd shower down some of those north sea coasts. so here it won't be quite as cold. but away from here, we're looking at a widespread frost, the first widespread frost of the autumn. temperatures not desperately cold, but we could be down to minus four or minus five. it will certainly start chilly tomorrow, but at least we have the sunshine. and for many, it's going to be a dry and sunny day. again, there'll be a bit more cloud coming in to northern scotland. the winds not as strong down those north sea coasts, but still the threat of the odd shower, particularly towards suffolk and norfolk. and of course, with that frosty start, it will be a cold day. temperatures typically in the afternoon, only 5—6 degrees. now, i mentioned some changes for the second half of the weekend. and that's coming about because this area of low pressure is slowly pushing these weather fronts in from the atlantic. and that means more cloud and some patchy rain arriving across northern ireland, moving over the irish sea and into the south—west of scotland as well. elsewhere, though, it should be a dry day, but of course we've got more cloud coming in over that cold and frosty start. so even though the winds are light and we have the cloud around, it is going to feel cold away from that rain in the west. temperatures again, 5—6 degrees. so a chilly old weekend. quick word on the early part of next week. we do see some rain arriving overnight into monday. that clears away, and it's going to stay cold. live from london. this is bbc news 24 hostages are out of gaza and back in israel to be reunited with theirfamilies. they include ten thai citizens and one filippino among the freed hostages elderly women and children: the oldest, 85 — the youngest, just two. we are, this isjust we are, this is just a we are, this isjust a happy moments, really, we want to sit relieved, it feels like a breath of fresh air. as a four—day ceasefire begins, some in the south of gaza have returned to their homes — to see the scale of the destruction. the first group of hostages have left gaza and are back in israel as part of a four—day ceasefire deal between israel and hamas. this was the moment when 24 hostages, including 13 israelis, were driven across the border into egypt by the it's international red cross. the israelis were four children and their mothers, and six elderly women.

northern scotland could see a shower, one or two down the north sea coast as well, but otherwise dry with plenty of sunshine. feeling pretty chilly outside, six and seven is pretty commonplace, well below average for the stage of november. into the second half of the weekend, this weak area of low pressure moving on from the west, bringing subtle changes to our weather. another cold and frosty night then damp weather pushing into northern ireland, wales and west in england. ahead of that, after a cold and frosty start, temperatures slow to rise, but turning mild in western areas. otherwise, it called a feeling day, temperatures are around five or 6 degrees, the cold weather staying with us for next week. and that's bbc news at six. the news continues here on bbc one with the news where you are. in terms of timings and it does not need much to do this which is why i have always exercised or urged caution here because both sides have theirfingers caution here because both sides have their fingers on the trigger and there are some the things that could still go wrong so you are right, there are strict time frames here but it is essential that trust, as much as it can be, maintained here through the intermediaries, the qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about _ qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about which _ qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about which side _ qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about which side has - qatari is in the egyptians. we know this is about which side has the - this is about which side has the upper hand in negotiations and at the moment hamas is using the release as hostages in a limited fasted spreading them over a number of days trying to use that as leverage in these negotiations. we know that israeli authorities have said they will extend four extra days that cease—fire if more hostages are released. but the question once again, does that hand hamas too much power in this negotiation?— hamas too much power in this negotiation? hamas too much power in this neuotiation? ~ ., ., , negotiation? whether or not it is the u- er negotiation? whether or not it is the upper hand _ negotiation? whether or not it is the upper hand that _ negotiation? whether or not it is the upper hand that is _ negotiation? whether or not it is the upper hand that is for - negotiation? whether or not it isj the upper hand that is for hamas negotiation? whether or not it is - the upper hand that is for hamas and israel to determine. both sides enter into negotiation knowing what it is they are willing and able to pay to give up in orderfor what they want from the other side. they have obviously agreed this and israel has a history of placing the recovery and release of hostages and israeli citizens taken hostage as a priority so they would see this as a necessary deal they need to make in order to get their people back. i wonder, when it comes to negotiations, given that the israeli stated aim is to destroy hamas, how do you negotiate with an organisation that your stated aim is quite clear and it has been reiterated a number of times is that israel wants to destroy hamas. can it negotiate on that basis? that is wh we it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are _ it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are in _ it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are in the _ it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are in the position - it negotiate on that basis? that is why we are in the position where l it negotiate on that basis? that is i why we are in the position where we are using third—party intermediaries, the qatari is and others because both sides here, there stated aim is the elimination of the other party. which makes it a quite unique negotiation where you negotiate with somebody who ultimately you want to destroy. so they are having to temper themselves here so they can, both sides, get what they want, from the steel. goad what they want, from the steel. good to have you — what they want, from the steel. good to have you with _ what they want, from the steel. good to have you with us _ what they want, from the steel. good to have you with us and _ what they want, from the steel. good to have you with us and thank you for being with us. a former adviser to the un and middle east and also a hostage negotiator. let's check now to the director of international institute for counterterrorism at creighton university in israel and a retired colonel from the idf. thank you for being with us. a significant day, a breakthrough in terms of the release of those hostages. this pause in the fighting allows that exchange to take place. what is your assessment of what happens next? how long can the pause last? i was listenin: long can the pause last? i was listening before _ long can the pause last? i was listening before to _ long can the pause last? i was listening before to the - listening before to the conversations you have been having and i'm thinking to myself as an israeli now that you are describing in the negotiation process that israel has said we will destroy hamas, why don't we all remind yourself who hamas is. i must start because they want to destroy israel. they did a genocidal terror attack was of the took hostages because thatis was of the took hostages because that is the way that they would destroy israel internally. think of what he did inside of our country and is still doing and continue to do so i say that as a sign. i say moving forward all the bumps along the road that can't happen will most likely happen. i don't expect them to happen in the next few days, i think that both sides, israel, committed to destroy hamas and hamas committed to destroy hamas and hamas committed to destroy hamas and hamas committed to destroying israel, each understand at this stage that there is an additional aspect that is the hostages that hamas took and yes, we are paying in the end with prisoners that were arrested and put on trial. convicted, sentenced and put in jail. these are people who were terrace, that the people who commit terrorist acts against them are being released from israeli jails. that is the price to boot we will have to pay. for the next few days and we will. it is about us. how can we not release the nine month baby, archie waiting to see who was already ten and a half months. the cute little ginger headed kid. his brother who was three years old. —— are you not waiting to see. i think it will go on for a few more days and then bumps will come and then israel will go back to military pressure because the only reason hamas came to the table right now was because of the military pressure. fix. was because of the military pressure-— was because of the military ressure. * ., pressure. a little later in the programme _ pressure. a little later in the programme we _ pressure. a little later in the programme we will - pressure. a little later in the programme we will talk - pressure. a little later in the programme we will talk to i pressure. a little later in the programme we will talk to a | programme we will talk to a palestinian family and i have talked to them already and we will play the interview already and we are keen to get theirfamily members interview already and we are keen to get their family members back that have been detained. we will play that leader because on both sides there are real disputes and arguments and we can get into those. i think it is important for us to look at what happens next because as you have touched on, much as israel is determined to eliminate hamas what today tells us is hamas still has significant power in these negotiations, does it not? that is exactly why _ negotiations, does it not? that is exactly why they _ negotiations, does it not? that is exactly why they took _ negotiations, does it not? that is exactly why they took the - negotiations, does it not? that is i exactly why they took the hostages. would you like to think of what it means now that in a mass hostage taking, it is unprecedented, has not happened and he were ever in the world, that hamas, the terror organisation comes out on the top. i absolutely, people who have been arrested or put on trial in israeli prisons. my heart could go out to mothers and others. let's not compare what hamas did as a terror organisation and taking the hostages and a mass hostage taking to the release of prisoners. we look forward into the future, i agree with some of the speakers before, it is not a happy one and i am happy today for the families. i want every one of the george at 40, notjust the 13 that came out today and, 12 additional, the 24 they came out today out of the 240, it does not matter if they are israeli or not. i want them all out. having said that, if hamas stands up and says, we are giving back the hostages, then we will all and this conflict right now. you and i know that is not what is going to happen. that now. you and i know that is not what is going to happen-— is going to happen. that is the oint. is going to happen. that is the point. public _ is going to happen. that is the point. public opinion _ is going to happen. that is the point. public opinion as - is going to happen. that is the point. public opinion as you i is going to happen. that is the i point. public opinion as you have touched on quite clearly in israel is pocketing all of those hostages back. everyone wants to see those hostages release. but given the stated aims of israel, that would mean not destroying hamas. therefore i wonder how what would square that argument that to get all of those hostages back, that involves not destroy hamas. it’s hostages back, that involves not destroy hamas.— hostages back, that involves not destroy hamas. it's interesting is that it is rrot _ destroy hamas. it's interesting is that it is not just _ destroy hamas. it's interesting is that it is notjust diplomacy - destroy hamas. it's interesting is that it is not just diplomacy thatl that it is notjust diplomacy that brought these hostages back, it is also the military pressure on them. it is as if diplomacy works hand—in—hand with the military pressure. three weeks ago it was said that we are not releasing any hostages, it we want all of the prisoners inside of itjails. that was three weeks ago. here we are three weeks later and they are going to release them. and there are saying they are not releasing, we can't, the snatched one side but we are doing so in such a way with military pressure and war is not privy and not easy and people are suffering. —— war is not pretty. the hostage situation is not one anyone in the world wants to succumb to peace if it does, then it becomes now know his sister danielle and daughter amelia are now amongst those who have been released today so some of those israeli hostages who have been released by hamas. among them, danielle and her daughter, emilia aloni. the pause in the fighting of course to allow the release of hostages and those palestinian children, but also key because it allows humanitarian aid to get into gaza. let's talk about what difference that could make. william bell is with us and he is head of the release policy and advocacy for christian aid. thank you for being with us. i will put the question to you. what difference will be of the aid there has been able to get in. from the un, 137 aid trucks will be able to unload and gaza since the start of that truce this morning. how important is that? that is a really small amount compared to the need and amount actually required. obviously four days of without bombing after seven weeks of intense bombardment is a welcome relief. everybody we spoke to clearly is relieved and will see this as summer spite. let's not forget that 1.7 million people out of 2.3 million people have been displaced. many of those have been living in shelters but many are not. many of them are hungry and do not have food and many are short of water as well. so there is an enormous amount of need. prior to october the 7th were 500 trucks a day going in. so 130 coming in under these circumstances is clearly a drop in the ocean. obviously it is to be welcomed. we would prefer this would be a permanent cease—fire and that every is really hostage and those held were released in the entirety is today. but we hope this becomes a permanent cease—fire because that is the only way that you are actually going to be able to address the enormous need that is in gaza. on top of obviously that displacement with united nations reporting in the region of 46,000 homes have been destroyed. so even though there is a respect for many, there is the thoughts of what sort of future people are going to have. so these are really difficult times, but obviously four days is better than nothing. but really, it is a permanent cease—fire that is required. permanent cease-fire that is re . uired. ., permanent cease-fire that is reuuired. ., ., ~' permanent cease-fire that is required-— permanent cease-fire that is reuuired. ., ., ,, ., required. you talk there about the the opportunity into his 40sj limit, the opportunity into his 40s how much carefully change it there is honestly and hope that this becomes an extended cease—fire or indeed, a cessation of the conflict. talk to me about what can achieved injust four talk to me about what can achieved in just four days because one hopes that the 137 trucks are just the start of several days of increased aid. we know it is sitting on the border. . . v aid. we know it is sitting on the border. . ., *, ., * aid. we know it is sitting on the border.. ., *, ., * ., border. . that's right. you're also towed as much _ border. . that's right. you're also towed as much as _ border. . that's right. you're also towed as much as obviously - border. . that's right. you're also towed as much as obviously we i border. . that's right. you're also i towed as much as obviously we hope that that contains food and medicine and obviously fuel, we are all securing from people on the ground is that people are absolutely exhausted. that includes medical teams. it also there is a need for people to help excavate those that are expected still alive underneath the rubble. so obviously any amount coming in is going to be of some help, but it does not going to be enough to be able to secure a permanent flow of aid into the strip. so as i said we hope this becomes permanent and that the hundreds of truck become thousands because that is what is required. what do we know about the situation particularly in southern gaza were so many people have been asked to move, making thejourney so many people have been asked to move, making the journey from the north of the territory from the south. we know the living conditions without food, water, electricity, medicine have been increasingly dire. what is in most need right now? , . , , now? pretty much everything. they are running — now? pretty much everything. they are running out _ now? pretty much everything. they are running out in _ now? pretty much everything. they are running out in some _ now? pretty much everything. they are running out in some cases i are running out in some cases in some more difficult to reach communities they have run out of things such as food. but it is easier to say that they need everything. that is why we hope that this is going to the start of more and more trucks coming in with medicine, food, blankets, mattresses. as a set, many who have moved from the north, over1 million people, are not living in some of the un shelters that we have seen on our tv screens. they are living in the streets. and obviously winter is set into move now. some people are in the cold, they are exposed and they are hungry. and absolutely exhausted. so they pretty much need everything. they also need a lot of hope and something to give them to imagine that they are going to have a betterfuture imagine that they are going to have a better future because of the moment despair is setting in. i wanted to talk to you about the weather because that changes things. we have seen images of the destruction in many parts of gaza particularly in the north and also many parts in the south as well. amid all of that with the weather taking a turn for the worse with those winter conditions, that brings a whole new set of problems, does not? * , ,., , a whole new set of problems, does not? absolutely. if you living in exosed not? absolutely. if you living in exposed in _ not? absolutely. if you living in exposed in the _ not? absolutely. if you living in exposed in the elements i not? absolutely. if you living in exposed in the elements you i not? absolutely. if you living in l exposed in the elements you are going to get cold. you are not going to have anywhere to shelter. that includes families who have not made it into shelters because there is simply not the capacity in the shelters whether they be schools or other municipal buildings. there is not enough space. because so many people have moved from the north to the south. obviously during the last few weeks as well there have been numbers of people having to move from the east of khan younis pushing people more and more into the south west part of the strip. so obviously the weeks ahead are going to be very tense and they will be made a lot easier if there was a permanent cease—fire and obviously if all the hostages were released. cease-fire and obviously if all the hostages were released. william, thank ou hostages were released. william, thank you for _ hostages were released. william, thank you for being _ hostages were will have the very hate loud —— headlines. stay with us. hello there. good evening. it's been a noticeably colder day today and that colder weather is going to stick around. the weekend will certainly be chilly. and with clearer skies and light winds, we're going to find some frost around as well before we see a bit more cloud arriving during the second half of the weekend. now, it's these north to north—westerly winds that have ushered in the colder air. we end up with higher pressure trying to build in from the west, meaning that the winds are falling lighter here, lower pressure to the east, and that's driven in stronger winds and a few showers down some north sea coasts as well. most of the showers today, earlier on at least, have been across north—eastern parts of scotland. but even here, those showers are becoming fewer and the wind is beginning to drop a bit as well. certainly got lighter winds inland. a lot of the cloud that we started the day with has been breaking up after some earlier sunshine. we've got the clear skies overnight. we will keep some clouds blowing into northern scotland. the odd shower down some of those north sea coasts. so here it won't be quite as cold. but away from here, we're looking at a widespread frost, the first widespread frost of the autumn. temperatures not desperately cold, but we could be down to minus four or minus five. it will certainly start chilly tomorrow, but at least we have the sunshine. and for many, it's going to be a dry and sunny day. again, there'll be a bit more cloud coming in to northern scotland. the winds not as strong down those north sea coasts, but still the threat of the odd shower, particularly towards suffolk and norfolk. and of course, with that frosty start, it will be a cold day. temperatures typically in the afternoon, only 5—6 degrees. now, i mentioned some changes for the second half of the weekend. and that's coming about because this area of low pressure is slowly pushing these weather fronts in from the atlantic. and that means more cloud and some patchy rain arriving across northern ireland, moving over the irish sea and into the south—west of scotland as well. elsewhere, though, it should be a dry day, but of course we've got more cloud coming in over that cold and frosty start. so even though the winds are light and we have the cloud around, it is going to feel cold
