a short time ago my colleague sally bundock spoke to a board member of the future investment initiative, matteo renzi, who was also prime minister of italy. he told her what the initiative is all about. future investment initiative tried to offer a platform of dialogue, particularly in business and correctly you explained the quality... one point, european... 400 ceos from europe as well as china, discussing here the initiative that became one of the most attractive and brilliant possibilities of exchange. last time was in the army the next time will be in hong kong but this is the pillar of the initiative of f at the same time, there are a lot of tensions in the economy so we need a new campus is the new title of this initiative. a new campus to understand what would be best for business and politics. light to what extent is what's happening in israel and gaza are overshadowing this event now? i believe that everything that's happened in the last two years on the border is an unbelievable change. when i was prime minister, the war was completely different. this was only seven or eight years ago. now we have a crisis between russia and ukraine and crisis inside of europe and africa, particularly sub—saharan. china and other people in southeast asia... but, the israel— gaza crisis, war, is a priority not only for the region. i appreciate every initiative, particularly under the us initiatives to avoid escalation and release hostages, as you've explained on the news. but to many people, too many people are under the control of terrorists in gaza. it is necessary to provide a platform of dialogue to discuss the troubles in the areas they are not only troubles for business. the real goal of hamas attack, it was also to attack all of the stability in the region and we know that there is currently a leadership race going on. now that saudi arabia are trying to play an important role in the establishment of peace... it a goal of this area as well. we don't discuss politics we discussed business but i think this initiative is more important than ever after the terrorist attack and the escalation in the region. mas the terrorist attack and the escalation in the region. was the former president _ escalation in the region. was the former president of _ escalation in the region. was the former president of italy - escalation in the region. was the l former president of italy speaking to my colleague earlier today. we're getting ready for gm and ford to report third—quarter earnings this week — and give some insight into how the united auto workers strike is affecting their bottom lines more than a month on. this comes as the uaw announced a surprise expansion of strikes at a stellantis plant in michigan on monday. —— friday. erin delmore reports. it's a surprise and an escalation. the united auto workers union called on 6,800 workers to walk out of a stellantis plant outside of detroit, where the company makes its profitable ram pick—up trucks. it's stellantis' largest us plant. in total, some 40,000 workers are now on strike at stellantis, ford and gm, that's more than a quarter of the union's total membership employed by detroit's big three auto—makers, and the auto—makers have laid off thousands of workers. this strike is historic for targeting all three auto—makers at once. union members are asking for pay increases, as well as better benefits for retirees and others. this is the first escalation since the uaw ordered nearly 9,000 workers to walk out at ford's largest plant in mid—october. the tactic has been to play the auto—makers against each other in negotiations, and in this instance, the uaw may be trying to pressure stellantis into matching an offer put on the table by gm on friday. we'll get a glimpse into what this means for the auto—makers' bottom lines when gm and ford report quarterly earnings this week. in the past, the union has used earnings reports and executive pay to fuel its argument that the companies can afford concessions to workers. gm reports tuesday, giving wall street the first look at strikes' impact. ford follows on thursday. tens of thousands of women in iceland, including the prime minister, katrinjakobsdottir, are refusing to work today. the strike has been called in protest against gender—based violence and inequality. it's the first full—day action of its kind since 1975 — when 90% of icelandic women took part. industries including health care, education and air travel are expected to be disrupted. jane foley, head of fx strategy at rabobank told us that iceland has topped the world economic forum's gender gap index for the past 14 years. according to the world economic forum, their top of the list. and there have been for 14 years. and behind them are some of the other nordic countries, too. but we've got to remember that iceland is a very small country. it's about the same size in terms of population as a london borough of croydon, which is just one of 32 london boroughs. but they do seem to be packing a punch. the fact that we're talking about this here, it does raise attention to notjust the pay inequalities and perhaps the underrated nature of certain industries that are dominated by women. but also this is designed to put attention towards violence against women, too, and it does raise those other points in underdeveloped countries to child marriages, etc. all of these issues certainly need more attention. and iceland today, women are not just told, don't go to work, but they say, stop doing all of that unpaid work because surveys are still suggesting that women are doing three times as many hours and unpaid housework and caring jobs as men do. you may have seen there is growing concern about a rise in bed bugs, especially in france. these bugs can travel on humans and often like to live in beds, where they can bite us. hotels, transport companies and government agencies have been looking at different ways to tackle the problem. our reporter, dougal shaw, has been to cambridge, england, to see one technology that could help. these bedbugs don't know it yet, but they are walking into a trap. this device contains a pheromones chemical that attracts bedbugs, and the trap is typically set in beds or seats connected to the internet. when a creature is captured, a camera inside takes a picture and transmits it so that a.i. software, aided by the human eye, can then confirm if a dreaded bedbug has been found. then an alert can be sent to people like hotel or transport staff, so pest control measures can begin before the bugs multiply. the devices are placed around the world, but the nerve centre is here in cambridge. the startup behind this was set up by science graduates from cambridge university. they act as an early warning system and effectively like a covid test. so you're doing the measuring to tell you where to go in and then treat. because of that, you can catch it much earlier before they spread. so as a company, you have this live dataset of bedbug activity. do you think there has been an actual rise in the number of bedbugs, or is it partly driven by social media hysteria? so we've monitored around a million hotel nights now, and there has been a consistent rise this year. so before covid, there had been a long term trend upwards over the last decade. it dropped back a bit with when everyone stopped travelling, but this year it really has come back with a vengeance. this isn't the only game in town. other companies integrate traps into furniture legs, while others use highly trained sniffer dogs to find bedbugs. but there is, of course, a stigma around any kind of pest control for clients like hotels, not to mention that it's yet another cost for the struggling hospitality industry. i spoke to one owner of a paris hotel who has invested in this bedbug detection technology and displays a badge to show this to customers. about two weeks ago, we had the detection of the bedbug. and i was, i want to tell you, it's frightening. the reason we invested into this technology is, first, a service to the customer. second, a reputation of the hotel. and third, this will eliminate the risk of somebody suing us because he or she were bitten. rising global concern about bedbugs has certainly brought new interest into all aspects of this somewhat niche industry, the future growth of which depends very much on the fate of the tiny bedbug. dougal shaw, bbc news. here in the uk manufacturers have reported the biggest monthly fall in orders for over two years. the confederation of british industry said its monthly industrial orders balance dropped in october as business optimism sank. the cbi said "the warning lights are flashing red" as manufacturers become more cautious with employment and investment. the price of the cryptocurrency bitcoin has soared i4% per cent to the highest value since may 2022, and crypto—linked stocks also tracked higher. there's growing speculation about the possible launch of a bitcoin exchange—traded fund after us securities and exchange commission revealed it wouldn't appeal a ruling that would allow it to go ahead. don't forget you can get in touch with me and some goodbye. bbc news bringing you different stories from across the uk. don't get much worse than this, just look at the height of it. then, and now. but in the space of two months, there's been no clear—up here, on the streets of west marsh. and mark lawless, who's campaigning against fly—tipping, says the problems only got worse. what have we got here, then, mark? kid prams, tinned food, plastic bottles, food waste. you can tell by the smell here that it isn't too pretty. but it's even on the street corners. it's all over the town, both grimsby and cleethorpes. hundreds of discarded trolleys full of rubbish. and what a shock, a trolley full of rubbish. today in grimsby it's been clear to see just how much or how little has been done to clear up this problem. that should've been took. but with councils not responsible for clear up of private spaces like alleyways, it's difficult to see how all this will change without help from the community. this is not normal, kids are growing up and thinking this is normal, it's only going to get worse. change, of course, will not happen overnight but what many litter campaigners are hoping for is at least some improvement. for more stories from across the uk, head to the bbc news website. hello from the bbc sport centre. i'm hugh ferris. tuesday's match at the
