President Joe Biden
spoke with the two women after their release on friday, telling them that their government will fully support them as they recover and heal. And
Secretary Of State
Antony Blinken
said hes relieved the women have been released, but reminded reporters that many others are still being held. Theres still ten additional americans who remain unaccounted for in this conflict. We know that some of them are being held hostage by hamas, along with an estimated 200 other hostages held in gaza. They include men, women, young boys, young girls, elderly people from many nations. Every single one of them should be released. Our correspondent
Barbara Plett
usher brings us more from inside the
State Department
. The release of the hostages disrupted the day here at the
State Department
. We were sitting down for the
Daily Briefing
and then we were told that it would be delayed for two hours because of
Breaking News
. Now, they didnt say what the
Breaking News
was, but we knew what it was. And so when we returned to the briefing room, there was another delay and then
Secretary Of State
Antony Blinken
came out to speak. And this was an important moment for him, because he has really been pressing for the release of the hostages during his recent trip to the region, engaging in
Shuttle Diplomacy
between israel and the arab states. He was pressing for this, especially in qatar, which has taken the lead in trying to negotiate the release of the hostages because it has relations with hamas. There is a hamas office in doha, so qatar has been working very hard on this. The
Foreign Ministry
there released a statement saying there had been days of continuous communication to get to this point with all parties, and saying that the qataris would continue talks with hamas and with the israelis to try to get the rest of the hostages released, and hopefully that would help to de escalate the situation. Hamas said that it was releasing these hostages for humanitarian reasons, but it also said that it was in talks with qatar and egypt to talk about releasing the rest of the civilian hostages if the
Security Arrangements
or if the
Security Environment
allowed and reports suggest that they were saying that if the air strikes would stop, this could be a possibility. Mr blinken was asked whether he saw this as a window of opportunity to follow up. He didnt really go there. He said that the us position was all hostages should be released immediately and unconditionally, and he said he would not take at

Really, our hearts are filled with gratitude to almighty god for this miracle. And again, we continue to pray and ask everyone to pray for the release of the other 200 plus hostages in the hands of hamas terrorists. Live now to javed ali, a former white house

there are always multiple parties involved, at the state level or ngo level like the red cross because you want to try and get as many points of leverage as you can as a government who has got a national kidnapped or taken hostage overseas to get that person or those persons back so in this case you have the government of qatar where, as your reporting indicated before, the hamas officials reside in qatar, so that must have been an important channel if not directly indirectly for the united states, past communications to hamas officials through the qatari government and then have the other points of influence likely red cross and the egyptian government, so this was a multipronged, complex negotiation but this only resulted in the release of two americans. Prime Minister
netanyahu said from the beginning after the aftermath of the attacks. Number two is to destroy the infrastructure for terrorism that has enabled hamas to conduct attacks but iii factor that is probably complicated the ability to pursue objectives one and two is the hostages so while there are hostages in gaza it will be difficult for israel to go forward with this
Ground Campaign
and that at some point the
Israeli Government
makes the
Israeli Government
makes the decision that despite the fact that there still might be a significant number of hostages in gaza that they are going to move forward with this
