you are watching bbc news with sarah campbell. you are watching bbc news with sarah campbell. in the last few hours, the israeli military has said that more than a million palestinians must leave the northern gaza strip within the next 2a hours ahead of an expected ground operation. in response, the un spokesman stephane dujarric said the united nations considers it impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences. the united nations strongly appeals for any such order, if confirmed, to be rescinded avoiding what could transform what is already a tragedy into a calamitous situation. that statement has sparked an angry reaction from israel. the country's ambassador to the united nations said israel is trying to minimise harm to gazans. he went on to say that for many years the un has turned a blind eye to the arming of hamas and the use of the civilian population and civilian infrastructure in the gaza strip as a hiding place for weapons and murder. in the last hour, the us secretary of state antony blinken has been meeting the palestinian leader mahmoud abbas injordan. here is mr blinken arriving for that meeting. remember, mahmoud abbas is head of the palestinian authority which controls the palestinian west bank. he does not control gaza, which is in the hands of the hamas. mr blinken met the israeli prime minister on thursday. earlier we spoke to the secretary—general of the norwegian refugee council, jan egeland. he started by giving his reaction to the idf request to evacuate 1.1 million people from the north of gaza. it isa it is a violation of international law. it has to be completely reversed, rescinded immediately. the us, the uk, the eu, the arab countries that have influenced on israel must say, don't relinquish your moral high ground now, don't become a war criminal. the forcible relocation of civilians like this with her 2a hour notice, it is a crystal clear violation of international law. we have reports from our people on the ground that the chaos in an already traumatised population that is under bombardment like no other is limitless. the israeli defence _ like no other is limitless. the israeli defence force - like no other is limitless. the israeli defence force due to give a press conference shortly and we may hear more about why specifically they are ordering this but so far we have heard they are saying this is for gardens*s safety and protection. it is not a voluntary evacuation, it is an enforced and voluntary order to relocate with no safety, no means of transportation, no obligation to have them return as they should. it is a violation of international law. it is the geneva conventions. it is what would be criminal under international law. i never saw them relocate the legal settlements on the west bank because there were terrorists going from there and killing palestinian civilians. you cannot punish an entire population for the horrors, the terror, the massacres done by some of the armed men. ., ., , ,., massacres done by some of the armed men. ., ., , , , ., men. you have given us some sense of conditions in — men. you have given us some sense of conditions in gaza _ men. you have given us some sense of conditions in gaza at _ men. you have given us some sense of conditions in gaza at the _ men. you have given us some sense of conditions in gaza at the moment. - conditions in gaza at the moment. the world health organization just issued a statement saying hospitals in gaza are at breaking point. what are you hearing from your people on the ground? we are you hearing from your people on the ground?— the ground? we hear exactly the same. so the ground? we hear exactly the same- so are — the ground? we hear exactly the same. so are the _ the ground? we hear exactly the same. so are the schools. - the ground? we hear exactly the same. so are the schools. there| the ground? we hear exactly the - same. so are the schools. there are 150,000 people in 82 un schools. imagine 150,000 people in some schools, what is the water and sanitation system there? what kind of food situation is there? there panic, the trauma is immense and now they have been told to relocate children from hospitals, wounded children from hospitals, wounded children from hospital beds, relocate, forcibly transfer people while there are still children under ruins in apartment blocks that have been hit by missiles and rockets. so this is beyond belief, and it is on those who have rightly expressed sympathy after the horrors of the hamas terror. it is on them now to stop this. if not, there would be no moral clarity. i heard antony blinken talk about moral clarity here and that we all should condemn terror, as we have. moral clarity is to oppose this and also to lift the blockade of gaza, wherei million children are. they have no chance to escape gaza and now they are staffed by a complete blockade. the escape gaza and now they are staffed by a complete blockade.— by a complete blockade. the us, the uk, the international— by a complete blockade. the us, the uk, the international community - by a complete blockade. the us, the | uk, the international community have been calling on israel to abide by the rules of war, whilst also understanding that israel has a right to protect itself and one can understand after the scenes we saw on saturday that israel does want to do what it can to do exactly that and they would argue that this is part of their strategy to defend their citizens.— part of their strategy to defend their citizens. yeah, but again, i haven't seen _ their citizens. yeah, but again, i haven't seen anywhere - their citizens. yeah, but again, i haven't seen anywhere in - their citizens. yeah, but again, i haven't seen anywhere in the . their citizens. yeah, but again, i i haven't seen anywhere in the world where you basically punish the millions because of what terrorists have done. that didn't happen in northern ireland, in norway after the terror, in any other place really. so go after the armed men who are terrorists. don't go after the children. forcibly relocation and transfer at the threat of bombardment within 2a hours is an outrage. so i hope that those who say that we are with you in the fight against terror, that take their terrorists, let's take the funding, theirarm their terrorists, let's take the funding, their arm flow from them, let's take those behind the terrorists. don't take the children and attack them. we terrorists. don't take the children and attack them.— and attack them. we will have to leave it shortly _ and attack them. we will have to leave it shortly but _ and attack them. we will have to leave it shortly but i _ and attack them. we will up until last night emergency shelter for the homeless, up until last night emergency shelterfor the homeless, water up until last night emergency shelter for the homeless, water and sanitation for the collective centres, how we could get in belief over the crossing from egypt and so on. at this moment, two thirds of our aid workers on the ground are fleeing from this order of transfer, and if not, they bomb you. so at the moment there is no aid workers in gaza. . . , moment there is no aid workers in gaza. ., ,, . ., , , ., gaza. that was the secretary general ofthe gaza. that was the secretary general of the norwegian council speaking to j of the norwegian council speaking to me earlier. so how much do we know about the extent of the damage in gaza? merlyn thomas from our bbc verify team has been piecing together what we know. we have seen israeli air strikes continue on gaza with force. this is one of those locations, al—shati refugee camp, and this is the aftermath. residents sifting through the rubble with their bare hands, searching for survivors and bodies. the camp is just on the coast here of the gaza strip. it is the third largest refugee camp in the palestinian territories, according to the un. and remember, gaza is one of the most densely populated areas on earth, with over 2.3 million people in just 41 kilometres long square piece of land, and right now it has got closed borders. and within that there are at least eight refugee camps. we have been trying to verify the extent of the damage refugee camp and trying to find the same before and after images, but pinpointing and matching up exact streets is almost impossible because the destruction is so bad. now, this is a satellite image of the site just a few days before the attack. and this is drone footage from reuters news agency. we don't know precisely how many were killed, but the palestinian ministry of health said there was a large number. and for those who were injured, gaza's hospitals aren't necessarily the safest place either. gaza's ministry said that seven hospitals were hit by israeli air strikes. we have been unable to verify that ourselves but we have been able to verify damage on just one of those buildings, and that is this one here, the international eye hospital. this is before the attack and this is what it looks like after. this is posted on x, formerly twitter, by a charity worker. now, we haven't been able to find a statement from the israel defence forces on this particular hospital, but recently they said they have intelligence that shows that hamas hides inside hospitals. we haven't been able to independently verify that. israel defence forces say they notify gazans when an air strike is imminent. we can't verify whether that is happening right across the territory, but this is one of the ways they do that. so sometimes they drop letters. these little white specks that you can see here, that is them dropping letters so that people know when strike is imminent. this was sent to us by our correspondent in gaza, and he sent us this video from this area, and this is what this letter says. this says in arabic... she speaks arabic. so it says, there is an attack coming imminently, make sure you evacuate quickly and go to a shelter. israel has consistently said that their bombs target military locations, but as pictures continue to emerge from gaza of entire neighbourhoods reduced to rubble, it is clear that it is causing widespread damage. that was our bbc verify team. i want to bring you up—to—date with reports we are getting from our correspondence who are in israel today. they are reporting that the israeli city of ashkelon, very close to the boundary with gaza, it is experiencing a sustained air attack this morning. there are been three rounds have rockets within a period of 20 minutes, most of them seem to have been taken out by the iron dome air defence system but the team saw one rocket getting through and hitting the street less than a kilometre from a hotel in the city centre. 0ne bbcjournalist who got there said that there was a damage cable but not much else, but rocket attacks in the city of ashkelon this morning. the israeli army... the israeli army... the israeli army says it is preparing for a ground assault on hamas in the gaza strip. so far, tens of thousands of troops have been deployed to the border with gaza but the newly formed unity government is yet to authorise them for such an operation. the israeli prime minister, benjamin netanyahu says that they will crush and destroy hamas which launched the attack on israel on saturday. jason blazakis is a former us state department counter—terrorism official. he's now at middlebury college where he is director at the center on terrorism, extremism, and counterterrorism. he told us it will be hard for israel to destroy hamas. the israeli government needs to get access to gaza to be able to do that, where hamas obviously is based and where the architect of the recent attack, mohammed deif, is located. in terms of the area of focus, the israeli government is going to have to collect a great amount of intelligence that they can leverage to find hamas senior leadership and that does take some time. at the same time, while the ground game in gaza goes forward, it's going to be very difficult because we've all seen the scenes in gaza, the rubble. it's going to be very difficult to counter insurrection when you have so many areas in which snipers can take advantage. you have hostages obviously on the ground, as well, where there's lack of information about their own location, so it's going to be extremely challenging to destroy hamas. the intent of the israelis to move a million individuals is to minimize the impact on civilians when they go into gaza. now, on the other hand of course, moving a million people in a short period of time, that may not be feasible and the united nations has said as much, but the underlying intent is trying to minimize harm to civilians and really to focus the energy on hamas and the senior leaders who orchestrated the attack. first and foremost, mohammed deif, who i see as israel's version of 0sama bin laden. there certainly are financiers overseas, former political leaders who still have a close connection to hamas overseas, as well, but the operational leaders, individuals like mohammed deif and others, are absolutely in gaza and they are the architects of the death and destruction that we saw a week ago. can the israelis find mohammed deif? that's going to be difficult. they've been looking for him for nearly two decades. he's an individual who has very savvy communications and operational security, but absolutely, he is the individual that they have to identify, find, prosecute or eliminate. reminder the pictures that you are seeing on your screen preparations for a press conference with yoav gallant and the us secretary of defence, lloyd austin. we understand their press conferences due to start in about an hour. we are also expecting at some point to hear statements after discussions between the us secretary of state antony blinken and the palestinian leader mahmoud bass. we will bring you that as soon as we get them. we will bring you that as soon as we get them. it was last saturday when hamas, designated as a terror organisation by many western governments, including the uk, murdered hundreds of young people, enjoying a music festival. lucy williamson has visited the scene of the atrocity, and spoken to survivors. her report contains images you made find distressing. since saturday, the festival site near gaza's border fence has been sealed inside a closed military zone. this is the first time that we've been allowed inside this site. it's become the ground zero of the attack here. everything pretty much has been left as it would have been on saturday morning. the abandoned vehicles, personal belongings scattered over the ground, the tents, the stages, it's all been almost frozen in time. and you canjust imagine the panic of people trying to leave. as people danced here early on saturday morning, gunmen stormed the site, kidnapping and killing. the sound of music replaced by gunfire. you know, you know it's possible, but you don't actually imagine it will happen, especially not at this scale. this was unthinkable, unimaginable. gunshots. we just heard a couple of gunshots ring out. and the israeli soldiers here are running, sprinting right across to the other side of the field. the army told us later that someone carrying a knife had been spotted near the site and arrested. we've just been told to leave this site because there is an active situation going on. we heard a couple of gunshots ring out. this was an army supervised press trip to a secure location. the nervousness now is hard to hide, even here. a week ago, revellers partied, trusting as much in their superpower image of israel's army as in gaza's borderfence. it took a day for everything to change. lucy williamson, bbc news, southern israel. now to some other news, pakistan has announced that all undocumeneted migrants must leave the country by the first of november. the authorities have started rounding up and detaining afghan refugees who fled the taliban, including some of those living in hotels for up to two years. many have been told by the uk they are eligible for visas but are still waiting for the applications to be processed. 0ur pakistan correspondent, carrie davies reports. chained, rounded up in recent raids, afghans detained at karachi's courts, accused of being here illegally. translation: i have been arrested before, almost a week ago. - i have a court hearing coming up and i have been arrested again. pakistan's government announced that illegal migrants would be deported in less than a month's time. it has scared many afghans here. thousands crossed the border since the taliban government took power, among them hundreds who risked their lives working for the british, including translators for the british army, all told by the uk government to come to pakistan so they could be processed for a uk visa. they wait with their children, living in hotels like this in pakistan. no legal access to school, to work, some here for over a year. and many tell us anonymously, increasingly afraid. afghans are all under a lot of stress, not just my family, but everyone. it has caused all of us psychological problems. we are scared. 0ur pakistani visas have expired and we don't know what is going to happen, we don't know if we will be arrested or not. they fear they cannot go back. if we go back, we will be at even more risk than before. before we left afghanistan, if our lives were at 50% danger, now they are in 100% danger. even before the end of the month deadline, the threat of arrest is real. the bbc understands that the uk is in touch with the pakistan authorities to try and make sure people on these schemes aren't affected but many we spoke to didn't feel reassured. this new crackdown brings new fears for many of the afghans on uk programmes here. it is over two years since the taliban took control of kabul and many feel they are still waiting for the uk government to make good on the promises they feel they were made. the uk government told us it has made an ambitious and generous commitment to help at—risk people in afghanistan and continues to honour its commitments to bring eligible afghans to the uk, but the main answer those we spoke to want is when. i stood by them side by side, shoulder to shoulder. i don't know what the british government is doing with us. they left us behind years ago. this weekend australians go to the polls in a historic referendum on whether or not to recognise aboriginal and torres strait islander people in the constitution and create a body that can advise governments on issues that affect their communities. the referendum was proposed as a way to try and unite the country — but it's produced a campaign that's bitterly divided people. katy watson reports from queensland. celebrating the world's oldest living culture. australia is often touted as a multicultural success story. but this country is going through a historical reckoning. reflecting on its violent, colonial past and looking towards a new future. and if there's one thing that's got to change in this country is that there are better equality outcomes for our people. the aim of the referendum is to empower aboriginal and torres strait islander people and help to narrow the inequalities on issues such as education, poverty and health. suzanne andrews runs the health centres in yarrabah and knows all too well the poor health outcomes in communities like hers. when you look at aboriginal communities and the conditions that they're in, so there's a housing issue, overcrowding in the houses. when you have overcrowding in the houses, you have multiple health conditions that's going on in that house. how do we start to tackle all of that? and it's notjust fixing the house, it's fixing the individual, and it's fixing the family and then the wider community. polling suggests that the majority of indigenous australians want this proposal to pass, but aboriginal and torres strait islanders make up little more than 3% of australia's population. ironically, those deciding the vote and the fate of indigenous australians are outsiders once again. this is about making sure they're actually heard. this was meant to be a chance to unite the country and bring about reconciliation. but it's been a bitter campaign packed with misinformation. conservative voters feel the proposal is divisive. we can't set up an apartheid regime. i think that's very wrong and unfair and it's really sad. we're not racist people here. we're fair dinkum australians, we love australians, everyone's equal. the proposals also exposed divisions within indigenous communities and many say the whole process has traumatised people and heightened discrimination. the voice is about assimilating us into the colonial constitution to make us nice and neat little indigenous australians that will continue to be oppressed by the coloniser. the amount of money that is going on this referendum while our people are hungry and homeless and suicide rates are through the roof i think is... just shows you how wrong this country is in how they think that they can fix the aboriginal problem. as australia heads towards the weekend it's looking like the no vote will win. with that will come much reflection about how this country values all of its people, past, present and future. katy watson, bbc news in north queensland. ijust want i just want to bring you ijust want to bring you a little bit of breaking news for cricket fans, i imagine you will be happy. cricket has been approved by the international olympic executive board so cricket will be a part of the 2028 los angeles 0lympics. cricket approved for the 2028 los angeles 0lympics. we will have more from one of our show olympics, 2028. stay with us here on bbc news. if i can just show you these live pictures from gaza on our top story. we saw those flyers being dropped earlier on this afternoon and the israel defence force has a confirmed those flyers tell 1.1 million residents in gaza to escape. hello. our first chill of the autumn heading our way this weekend. some of you are already feeling it across parts of scotland and northern ireland today. the blue colours on this chart show where temperatures are below normal, reds are where they are significantly above, including southern parts of england and wales today. but notice into the weekend how the blues deepen for all of us. all of us will notice those temperatures drop. the colder conditions are waiting to the west of this area of low pressure. it's that and especially these weather fronts that have produced heavy rain so far today across parts of england and wales. it's shifting southwards through this afternoon. there will be some sunshine at times in the far south before that rain arrives. it's quite windy here, but scotland, northern ireland, northern england, north wales, sunny spells this afternoon, but a blustery wind pushing in a few showers, especially in the north and west of scotland. the winds in northern scotland gusting 50mph, 60mph, maybe a little bit more later. that adds to the chill here. just nine or ten degrees in lerwick and stornoway, 22 towards east anglia and the south—east, where we'll see the rain push through during the second half of the evening rush hour before clearing. for the rest of the night, showers peppering northern and western coasts. those showers turning increasingly wintry across the north of scotland, but with some clear skies elsewhere. if you are sheltered from some strong winds, it will feel rather chilly. south—east scotland, north—east england maybe a bit of frost. the strongest winds are on the southern flank of this area of low pressure, to the north and north—east of scotland for saturday, but it will help to drive that colder air southwards to all the blue colours on the chart here. now, if we take took a look at saturday, we'll have frequent showers turning wintry across northern scotland. showers may be wintry in the west of england and wales on the tops of the highest hills, but most it's rain, maybe a little bit of hail. some of those showers pushing their way southwards and eastwards. but a good parts of southern and south—eastern scotland, eastern and southern england will stay dry on saturday. but, for all, seven to 13 celsius, it will feel colder, well down on what we've had for some through the week. with winds falling a bit lighter through saturday night into sunday, our first widespread rural frost on the grass for sunday morning, especially across the central and northern parts of the uk, but lots of sunshine. a crisp day to get an autumn walk in. still breezy down some eastern coasts. a bit more cloudy in northern scotland. the wintry showers turning more back to rain. isolated showers in the west to begin with, but mainly dry through the afternoon, but chilly — highs ofjust nine to 12 celsius. take care. live from london. this is bbc news. israel's military orders all civilians to leave gaza city for their own safety — ahead of an expected ground operation. leaflets have been dropped. in the next hour, the us secretary of defence lloyd austin is expected to hold a press conference with israeli defence minister yoav gallant. meanwhile, us secretary of state antony blinken has landed injordan to meet with palestinian president abbas. and what is it like to work in a war zone? we hearfrom a bbc a journalist based in gaza. today has been one of the most difficult days in my career. i have seen things i can never unsee. this is the scene live in gaza as the conflict enters a seventh day.

we have heard they are saying this is for gardens*s safety and protection. it is not a voluntary evacuation, it is an enforced and voluntary order to relocate with no safety, no means of transportation, no obligation to have them return as they should. it is a violation of international law. it is the geneva conventions. it is what would be criminal under international law. i never saw them relocate the legal settlements on the west bank because there were terrorists going from there and killing palestinian civilians. you cannot punish an entire population for the horrors, the your people on the ground? we are you hearing from your people on the ground?— the ground? we hear exactly the same. so the ground? we hear exactly the same- so are — the ground? we hear exactly the schools. there are 150,000 people in 82 un schools. imagine 150,000 people in some schools, what is the water and sanitation system there? what kind of food situation is there? there panic, the trauma is immense and now they have been told to relocate children from hospitals, wounded children from hospitals, wounded children from hospital beds, relocate, forcibly transfer people while there are still children under ruins in apartment blocks that have been hit by missiles and rockets. so this is beyond belief, and it is on those who have rightly expressed sympathy after the horrors of the hamas terror. it is on them now to stop this. if not, there would be no moral clarity. i heard antony blinken talk about moral clarity here and that we all should condemn terror, as we have. moral clarity is to oppose this and also to lift the blockade of gaza, wherei million children are. they have no chance to escape gaza and now they are staffed by a complete blockade. the escape gaza and the us, the | uk, the international community have been calling on israel to abide by the rules of war, whilst also understanding that israel has a right to protect itself and one can understand after didn't happen in northern ireland, in norway after the terror, in any other place really. so go after the armed men who are terrorists. don't go after the children. forcibly relocation and transfer at the threat of bombardment within 2a hours is an outrage. so i hope that those who say that we are with you in the fight against terror, that take their terrorists, let's take the funding, theirarm verify team has been piecing together what we know. we have seen israeli air strikes continue on gaza with force. this is one of those locations, al—shati refugee camp, and this is the aftermath. residents sifting through the rubble with their bare hands, searching for survivors and bodies. the camp is just on the coast here of the gaza strip. it is the third largest refugee camp in the palestinian territories, according to the un. and remember, gaza is one of the most densely populated areas on earth, with over 2.3 million people in just 41 kilometres long square piece of land, and right now it has got closed borders. and within that there are at least eight refugee camps. we have been trying to verify the extent of the damage refugee camp and trying to find the same before and after images, but pinpointing and matching up exact streets is almost impossible because the destruction is so bad. now, this is a satellite image of the site just a few days before the attack. and this is drone footage from reuters news agency. we don't know precisely how many were killed, but the palestinian ministry of health said there was a large number. and for those who were injured, gaza's hospitals aren't necessarily the safest place either. gaza's ministry said that seven hospitals were hit by israeli air strikes. we have been unable to verify that ourselves but we have been able to verify damage on just one of those buildings, and that is this one here, the international eye hospital. this is before the attack and this is what it looks like after. this is posted on x, formerly twitter, by a charity worker. now, we haven't been able to find a statement from the israel defence forces on this particular hospital, but recently they said they have intelligence that shows that hamas hides inside hospitals. we haven't been able to independently verify that. israel defence forces say they notify gazans when an air strike is imminent. we can't verify whether that is happening right across the territory, but this is one of the ways they do that. so sometimes they drop letters. these little white specks that you can see here, that is them dropping letters so that people know when strike is imminent. this was sent to us by our correspondent in gaza, and he sent us this video from this area, and this is what this letter says. this says in arabic... she speaks arabic. so it says, there is an attack coming imminently, make sure you evacuate quickly and go to a shelter. israel has consistently said that their bombs target military locations, but as pictures continue to emerge from gaza of entire neighbourhoods reduced to rubble, it is clear that it is causing widespread damage. that was our bbc verify team. i want to bring you up—to—date with reports we are getting from our correspondence who are in israel today. they are reporting that the israeli city of ashkelon, very close to the boundary with gaza, it is experiencing a sustained air attack this morning. there are been three rounds have rockets within a period of 20 minutes, most of them seem to have been taken out by the iron dome air defence system but the team saw one rocket getting through and hitting the street less than a kilometre from a hotel in the city centre. 0ur pakistani visas have expired and we don't know what is going to happen, we don't know if we will be arrested or not. they fear they cannot go back. if we go back, we will be at even more risk than before. before we left afghanistan, if our lives were at 50% danger, now they are in 100% danger. even before the end of the month deadline, the threat of arrest is real. the bbc understands that the uk is in touch with the pakistan authorities to try and make sure people on these schemes aren't affected but many we spoke to didn't feel reassured. this new crackdown brings new fears for many of the afghans on uk programmes here. it is over two years since the taliban took control of kabul and many feel they are still waiting for the uk government to make good on the promises they feel they were made. the uk government told us it has made an ambitious and generous commitment to help at—risk people in afghanistan and continues to honour its commitments to bring eligible afghans to the uk, but the main answer those we spoke to want is when. i stood by them side by side, shoulder to shoulder. i don't know what the british government is doing with us. they left us behind years ago. this weekend australians go to the polls in a historic referendum on whether or not to recognise aboriginal and torres strait islander people in the constitution and create a body that can advise governments on issues that affect their communities. the referendum was proposed as a way to try and unite the country — but it's produced a campaign that's bitterly divided people. katy watson reports from queensland. celebrating the world's oldest living culture. australia is often touted as a multicultural success story. but this country is going through a historical reckoning. reflecting on its violent, colonial past and looking towards a new future. and if there's one thing that's got to change in this country is that there are better equality outcomes for our people. the aim of the referendum is to empower aboriginal and torres strait islander people and help to narrow the inequalities on issues such as education, poverty and health. suzanne andrews runs the health centres in yarrabah and knows all too well the poor health outcomes in communities like hers. when you look at aboriginal communities and the conditions that they're in, so there's a housing issue, overcrowding in the houses. when you have overcrowding in the houses, you have multiple health conditions that's going on in that house. how do we start to tackle all of that? and it's notjust fixing the house, it's fixing the individual, and it's fixing the family and then the wider community. polling suggests that the majority of indigenous australians want this proposal to pass, but aboriginal and torres strait islanders make up little more than 3% of australia's population. ironically, those deciding the vote and the fate of indigenous australians are outsiders once again. this is about making sure they're actually heard. this was meant to be a chance to unite the country and bring about reconciliation. but it's been a bitter campaign packed with misinformation. conservative voters feel the proposal is divisive. we can't set up an apartheid regime. i think that's very wrong and unfair and it's really sad. we're not racist people here. we're fair dinkum australians, we love australians, everyone's equal. the proposals also exposed divisions within indigenous communities and many say the whole process has traumatised people and heightened discrimination. the voice is about assimilating us into the colonial constitution to make us nice and neat little indigenous australians that will continue to be oppressed by the coloniser. the amount of money that is going on this referendum while our people are hungry and homeless and suicide rates are through the roof i think is... just shows you how wrong this country is in how they think that they can fix the aboriginal problem. as australia heads towards the weekend it's looking like the no vote will win. with that will come much reflection about how this country values all of its people, past, present and future. katy watson, bbc news in north queensland. ijust want i just want to bring you ijust want to bring you a little bit of breaking news for cricket fans, i imagine you will be happy. cricket has been defence force has a confirmed those flyers tell 1.1 million residents in gaza to escape. hello. our first chill of the autumn heading our way this weekend. some of you are already feeling it across parts of scotland and northern ireland today. the blue colours on this chart show where temperatures are below normal, reds are where they are significantly above, including southern parts of england and wales today. but notice into the weekend how the blues deepen for all of us. all of us will notice those temperatures drop. the colder conditions are waiting to the west of this area of low pressure. it's that and especially these weather fronts that have produced heavy rain so far today across parts of england and wales. it's shifting southwards through this afternoon. there will be some sunshine at times in the far south before that rain arrives. it's quite windy here, but scotland, northern ireland, northern england, north wales, sunny spells this afternoon, but a blustery wind pushing in a few showers, especially in the north and west of scotland. the winds in northern scotland gusting 50mph, 60mph, maybe a little bit more later. that adds to the chill here. just nine or ten degrees in lerwick and stornoway, 22 towards east anglia and the south—east, where we'll see the rain push through during the second half of the evening rush hour before clearing. for the rest of the night, showers peppering northern and western coasts. those showers turning increasingly wintry across the north of scotland, but with some clear skies elsewhere. if you are sheltered from some strong winds, it will feel rather chilly. south—east scotland, north—east england maybe a bit of frost. the strongest winds are on the southern flank of this area of low pressure, to the north and north—east of scotland for saturday, but it will help to drive that colder air southwards to all the blue colours on the chart here. now, if we take took a look at saturday, we'll have frequent showers turning wintry across northern scotland. showers may be wintry in the west of england and wales on the tops of the highest hills, but most it's rain, maybe a little bit of hail. some of those showers pushing their way southwards and eastwards. but a good parts of southern and south—eastern scotland, eastern and southern england will stay dry on saturday. but, for all, seven to 13 celsius, it will feel colder, well down on what we've had for some through the week. with winds falling a bit lighter through saturday night into sunday, our first widespread rural frost on the grass for sunday morning, especially across the central and northern parts of the uk, but lots of sunshine. a crisp day to get an autumn walk in. still breezy down some eastern coasts. a bit more cloudy in northern scotland. the wintry showers turning more back to rain. isolated showers in the west to begin with, but mainly dry through the afternoon, but chilly — highs ofjust nine to 12 celsius. take care. live from london. this is bbc news. israel's military orders all civilians to leave gaza city for their own safety — ahead of an expected ground operation. leaflets have been dropped. in the injordan to meet with palestinian president abbas. and what is it like to work in a war zone? we hearfrom a bbc a journalist based in gaza. today has been one of the most difficult days in my career. i have seen things i can never unsee. this is the scene live in gaza as the conflict enters a seventh day.
